Best meal I've had in my life...and most expensive, but SO worth it. Every course was divine - I found myself enjoying dishes that I refuse to eat in real life (i.e. I hate scallops normally, but I could eat Geranium's beet-infused scallops every day). The dishes were extremely inventive in engaging multiple senses - the plating, the smells, the textures were just transcendental. The decor was sleek, modern, light, and airy. The waitstaff timed the courses perfectly. Everyone was helpful without being stuffy - they joked with us and did not mind that we obviously had never been to a restaurant this fancy before and were totally starstruck. We really enjoyed the kitchen tour as well as watching the sunset from our banquette by the windows. I was also amazed that, after the meal, I was perfectly full - usually, I'm stuffed after a tasting menu, but this was exactly the right amount of food. read more

This is by far the most expensive meal I have ever paid for, but it was worth every penny. Three star Michelin awarded restaurant with three Bocuse d' Or awards- no other chef has achieved that. We were very lucky to book a reservation the day before because someone had cancelled. First thing coming into the restaurant, reception took my jacket and bags to hang in the coat room. Everyone greeted us with a smile and introduced themselves. The restaurant is truly an international sensation with people coming all over the world to work at this amazing establishment. We were seated near the kitchen so we were able to see the chefs creating the masterpieces. The restaurant had a very airy feeling, with windows all over and a very modern yet homey feeling. During the presentation of each dish, a chef would come by and explain at our table about what type of ingredients were used. During the middle of our meal, we were offered a tour of the restaurant. They brought us to their meat room, where they pickle and cure all their meats. We were brought back to the inspiration rooms, the wine cellars and the back kitchen. What a view! Their kitchens had the view of the stadium; box seats status. Definitely an amazing perk for those football fans! Some of the chefs introduced themselves and you can tell everyone wanted to work there! After the food, we were moved over to the lounge area for the sweets and coffee/tea section. Everyone was so friendly and the young lady that was making our tea and coffee was extremely courteous and nice. She even wrote us a list of all the food establishments to go to while in New York when my friend told her she was going to be there this summer. No wonder this place has raving reviews. Perhaps the most technical food I've ever had. (And by technical, I don't mean lots of hydrocolloids and sous-vide, but real deal skillful cooking technique). It's only downfall may be that it is dressed in a formality that may make it a challenge to approach. Regardless, the dishes are amazing to regard, and more than just pretty tasty. If you ever want to have dinner on an alien space ship being served by folks in what seem like custom Jean Paul Gaultier attire...this is the place. Chef Rasmus Kofoed with Søren Ledet (an ex chef from Noma but now front of house) opened Geranium in the Rosenborg gardens. After getting their Michelin star and a falling out with an investor they moved to the current top floor of Parken Stadium. You may ask why you'd want to open a restaurant in a soccer stadium but once you get to the top you know why. A very sleek a modern space, it is an about face from the many fine dining establishments that are 200,300, and 700+ years old. We were taking a bus from our hotel and realized that the transfer bus was not going to show. So we hopped in a cab and made it over to the stadium. It started to rain and we were like, "Man this is in the middle of nowhere". As we walked into the modern office tower, we took the lift to the 8th floor. As the doors opened we gazed into a large wine room and an ultra modern host stand. As you walk up to be greeted, you see a lounge area with a central fire put surrounded by modern furniture. The view outside is incomparable as you get to take in a good view of the flat Copenhagen horizon. The dining room continues to the left and stretches along the well windowed wall. Finally, the open kitchen, which is basically all induction and very modern is in the far back. We were greeted by several servers and our captain Michael, who described the progression of snacks and entrees and at the pace they would arrive. I guess with many of the fairly complicated dishes, they had to be prepared, plated and sent out in a very short time frame. My friend said a lot of the newer dining kitchens are basically huge garde manger outfits which deal with a lot of delicate produce that had to be timed appropriately. Extremely technical, very precise and ultimately very tasty with suprising flavor combinations. Chef Kofoed is a three time Bocuse d'Or winner with one of each Bronze, Silver and Gold. Those that follow the Bocuse know that extreme technicality and accuracy are what they look for and it's no surprise that the dishes at Geranium represent that accordingly. For some the dishes maybe too progressive or avant garde, but we felt it was one of the finest representations of where Danish cooking was going. After a majority of our meal we were taken into the kitchen to see the line at work and to have a course next to the three Bocuse statues. It was my surprise that Kofoed's #1 was an American from Orange County not too far from where my dad lives. Strange yet I would meet his Danish roommate at another restaurant who used to cook here. The world is a small place. As dessert came around we were led into the lounge where we could conclude our meal. By this time we had garnered a certain rapport with our Captain and Søren who gave us the grand tour of the whole facility. To our surprise they basically had the whole floor. The private dining rooms, the prep areas, where they grew and kept micro greens, additional wine storage, and best of all a back area that had a full view of the stadium which allowed the workers to watch soccer games live. A very vast and awesome space indeed. Much like everywhere else we asked and discussed the merits of New Nordic Cuisine, traditional Danish lunch and dinner and strangely enough, the Danes love of the American NFL. Even though this may have looked and felt like one of the most formal places in Copenhagen, the hospitality, warmness and laid back attitude was just as prevalent and we were very well taken care of. I don't know that it gets any better than this. Clearly they deserve all of their Michelin stars. If I could I would tack on one more. Being from Los Angeles I tried to compare it to some of the top restaurants that we have. If this restaurant was transported to Los Angeles it would most certainly be in the top 5 and maybe the best restaurant in Los Angeles. The food is absolutely excellent and the presentation is exquisite. Everything about the place exudes class. Everyone seems to make a fuss over Noma here in Copenhagen but if I had only one restaurant to go to this would be the one. Unlike Noma this restaurant gives you the dining experience that you would expect from Michelin 3-star restaurant. Really like the open kitchen. Many restaurants now have open kitchens but the way they do it is just perfect. There is not a lot to say, except it was one of the most enjoyable dinning experiences of my life. It was like nothing I've have ever seen before. I have been to the French Laundry, Gary Dankos, Meliese, Le Cirque, Michael Mina, and many more very high end restaurants. But there was nothing even close to what was performed here at Geranium this evening. I could go on and on about the service, originality, creativity, ambiance, wine list, tastes, textures et. al., but in a nut shell; it was a perfect evening. The thought, skill and training that went into each dish served was astronomical. Although, very expensive, it was completely worth the time and money spent. Hats off and congrats to you Geranium for giving me and my party such a unique and wonderful dinner. One more thing: Watch out old guys, here comes the new breed! read more

Restaurant Geranium is Copenhagen's first Michelin three star restaurant. Very fortunately for me (and my girlfriend), I was able to book my reservation right before the third Michelin star was awarded and announced with all reservations getting fully booked for the following three months. Geranium is located right next to the soccer/football stadium, which required a taxi ride from the center of the city. For those that are biking, it's about a 20 minute bike ride from the city center. The restaurant itself is located at the top floor of the building in an otherwise very corporate building with various businesses getting on and off at each floor. Once inside, you're warmly welcomed by the host, who offers to hold your coat or bags during your meal. She'll walk you though this absolutely stunning room with a newly renovated open kitchen that makes for a more dynamic experience. When taken to your seat, you are asked the standard restaurant questions at a Michelin level restaurant, which includes if you have ever dined at the restaurant before and if you have any food allergies. We were than handed an envelope, which listed out our 18+ course menu and a wine menu. Since our meal was for lunch, we chose not to have wine pairings but decided to try the juice pairings. Shortly after, one of the servers came by with a cart of 3 kinds of champagne and provided an overview of the flavors/experience of each bubbly. We opted for the crisp and fruity champagne, which we do not regret a bit. I won't go into each course i tried, but the food itself was absolutely spot on with the juices pairing perfectly. If i had to choose a favorite, it would be the hake with the caviar and fish scales. Salty, creamy, crunchy, decadent. So many different adjectives could describe the flavors and textures in this dish, but everything came together and balanced so well. At the end of the meal, you are offered to have some coffee (provided by the Coffee Collective) and snacks in the waiting area, which oversees the practice soccer/football field. Now, let's talk about service. Geranium goes above and beyond with how they serve you. A variety of chefs, including Chef Rasmus Kofoed, come to present your dish, especially as several dishes required to be finished at the table with various creams / sauces used. The co-owner and front of the house, Søren, is fantastic, and if he were to host any party, it'd be the party of the year. In conclusion, this is no cheap meal but is also Copenhagen's first Michelin three star restaurant for a reason. Among the much talked about Scandinavian fine dining, Geranium was probably the most impressive to me as a total package - so far.. ( yes I have dined at Noma too ..) Amazing presentation served by (even) a number of actual chefs makes you wonder what you are about going to taste - Clean, organic, fresh and delicate. And I have to mention how friendly everyone is ! I almost felt the similarity of Japanese Zen but Scandinavian way ;) - reminded me of --- sort of " Japanese Kaiseki style " but in a different manner - I liked subtle but refined attention to details. ( loved the plates too ;) Not to mention the impressive totally biodynamic Champagne and Wine list, their homemade organic juices are very nice too. Despite the series of snacks and courses they are not too overwhelming- well, they focused on more vegetable. ( actually it can be a bit too grassy though to be honest, in Spring they love using edible flowers and grasses ...) From the beginning to the end of desserts ( with the fresh infusion tea of course ;) I had a smile on me. I liked the ultra sophisticated Danish decor that also had a warm rich feeling. This meal was exceptional, as everyone has noted. Its certainly on par with places like The French Laundry. There are only 10 tables and it seemed like just as many chefs, with a fantastic view of the park. The light during sunset was gorgeous. Service was a relaxed pace but didn't feel slow. As a vegetarian, all of my dishes were well-considered. In fact, my meat-eating companions were jealous of a few of them, especially the truffle-laden mushrooms with winter cabbage. My friend has a cucumber allergy, which didn't impact her dishes or desire to do the juice pairings, which were just as creative as the food. (Though I was very happy with my wine pairings.) The wait staff is not at all stuffy - very friendly and easy to chat with. And I really liked how many of the dishes were presented by the chefs themselves. Service ends by moving to the lounge area for sweets and coffee, which is a nice way to end what is at least a 4 hour meal. I felt satisfied but not overly stuffed at the end. read more

I just finished my meal and am a bit disappointed. I've dined at many Michelin starred restaurants, Eleven Madison, Per Se, Le Bernadin, El Celler de can Roca, etc. so I'm not a rookie. Pros: Excellent service Excellent presentation (the best I've experienced) Excellent Decor with open kitchen concept (the chefs are in front and clear view of all) Cons: Two hours later and I'm eating again. Calorically speaking - you're served maybe half the calories. After other 3 star meals I've barely been able to walk. The food was good, but not amazing. It's more in-line with a 1 star Michelin. Aquavit, a 2 star Scandinavian restaurant in NYC, is much better. They don't have a waiting room or bar. I arrived early and had to wait outside in the cold. Had a beautiful lunch here today, a grey and windy day in Copenhagen. Stepping into this beautiful, inviting restaurant with its friendly, personable and knowledgeable staff was a great treat. There's a clean, Scandinavian feel (as you'd expect) but nicely matched with softer elements, the fire and lovely lighting but nothing distracting from the view across Copenhagen. Opting for the full universe menu but with the smaller wine pairing, which worked well at lunch time, I felt. Highlights from the amuse-bouches were the Jerusalem artichoke leaf and a wee trip into the kitchen for the dried ceps and the opportunity to meet the kitchen team. The hake was particularly enjoyable, I found; well presented with plenty of textures and flavours but without anything too overwhelming. I'm something of a sucker for singed pine and the appearance of lamb, a small forest and a blowtorch did not disappointment. The lamb was light, mild in flavour and wonderfully presented. Desserts were typically understand, as is the New Nordic mode, which suits me fine. Clever and pretty the tree was my favourite with an almost woody flavour to the prune accompaniment. Spot on. This is a classic high end experience with a beautiful scene, perfect service and food that is outstanding. Plating is strong and beautiful if not lacking a bit on creativity. The food is excellently prepared and tastes great individually. As a whole tasting it gets a bit boring as lot of the flavors are repeated. Its all sea and salt, bitter and runs on towards the end. I wish there was few out of the box items in there to mix things up but I see why it has it lofty ranking. What started off as a wonderful night slowly turned sour. I got a call about being on the waiting list, letting me know a 6:30 reservation had opened up. I quickly accepted the offer and they told me they would send a confirmation email. Well, a few hours later I did not receive an email so I made me parter call them back to send it again. When I went to pay the deposit, I got a message saying that the booking was deleted and no longer available.. Well, I checked the website and it just so happened that there was a table for two at the exact same time that my "confirmed" reservation was for? I made my parter book it online instead. When we arrived to the beautiful front entry they quickly apologized and offered us free champagne for the confusion. I found this to be a very nice touch. I am a vegetarian so I had the vegetarian tasting. The food was pretty good, but thinking back, I wouldn't be able to tell you what I had since it wasn't that memorable. The staff started off very friendly and professional and the service was amazing, but as time went on it went downhill. At a 3 Michelin star restaurant, I shouldn't be sitting with an EMPTY water glass for 10 minutes at a time. This was absurd. Towards the end, there was more and more time between courses and our plates often sat in front of us empty for 5-10 minutes. This is not my first 3star restaurant, so I know what the service should be like and it should not be like this. Towards the desserts my parter and I felt that we were getting treated differently than every other table. I was extremely annoyed and upset at this point. Nobody was coming over to check on us, or to offer any explanations as to why everything was taking so long. Literally every single other table was offered a tour except for us??!!!! This made me just want to leave. After our last dessert course, my parter asked why we were not offered a tour and the staff member seemed to be caught off guard and she said, "Oh, well it's for people who need a break in between courses. Your dinner is going slowly, so we didn't think you needed one. Of course we'd be happy to show you around if you'd like." I was just very upset that we were not offered this tour and that we had to ask. I was so irritated at this point that I declined the pity offer of a tour. I don't see how this restaurant has so many great reviews, unless it's just like I said, that my partner and I were being treated differently and unfairly compared to everyone else. I have struggled to write a review for Geranium because, quite frankly, it transcended words. When I think back to my meal here (August 2017), the words that jump immediately to mind are "best" and "breathtaking". Honestly, I'm a bit sad because I think I've peaked. Geranium was the best meal I'll ever have in my life. The menu is seasonal and prepared by a veritable army of chefs in large, immaculate kitchens. The amount of love and care put into each dish is remarkable - every dish looks like a work of art. We received one fish dish (hake) that looked like a disk of black-veined white marble on a bed of green sauce and white foam and had a lovely, delicate flavor that allowed the natural sweetness of the fish to shine through. Another dish ("dill stone" mackerel) looked like mossy rocks in a stream bed and tasted refreshingly like a cold spring on a hot summer day. Some courses sounded really ridiculous, like "tomato water", but turned out to be amazing (tasted like a gazpacho with a light ham flavor that really played up the "meatiness" of the tomato). Each dish made the best of its ingredients, and unlike other gastronomique/Scandinavian restaurants, where ingredients are so deconstructed they become unrecognizable, Geranium's team retained and elevated the essence of each ingredient. The views are stunning - the restaurant is located outside of the main stretch of Copenhagen, at the top of a stadium overlooking a soccer field, and beyond, the city of Copenhagen. The staff are lovely - our waitress (from Australia), was one of the best servers I've ever met, and by the end, after all the delicious food and drinks and overall stunning experience, we felt as if we were friends. The sommeliers do not joke around - they really know their wines and how to handle them. (One table with a particularly fancy bottle had a decanting that involved a blowtorch!) All diners are offered a tour of the wine room and kitchens, which was awesome. It makes you realize even more the insane amount of creativity and prep-work that goes into each dish. It is definitely the most expensive meal I've ever had (upwards of 1000 dkk), and will probably be the most expensive meal I ever have for at least the next decade, but I honestly don't know if I'll ever make it back to Copenhagen and if I do, if I'll be able to score a reservation at the one Michelin 3-star in the city. Geranium offers a culinary experience that embraces all the senses - the flavors, the textures, the beautiful plating, the delicious smells wafting out of the open kitchen, the perfect service. I went into this dining experience knowing that it was a Michelin rated restaurant and ready to deliver a review that it was good but over priced. However, I had to change my mind. First of all, since we had a party of 8, we had to get a table that was in a room with its own kitchen. I don't know if they put more that one party in the room but we had a private room for the night. A 17 course meal followed. It was probably the best meal I ever have eaten. Each course was just a few bites but at the end of the meal, I was full. Each dish was so unique and beautiful in its presentation. We also got a tour of the wine closet and the kitchen. We were encouraged to watch anything that was prepared and so it was more than a meal. It was a dining experience. Let me start by telling you that my wife and I are on a 5 month tour of Europe and the cuisine thereof. We have dined at some of the finest restaurants in the world on this journey (as well as a previous one year European trip we did two years ago) and are no strangers to haute cuisine or the cost associated. However, in this case I have to make an exception: the cost for a meal at Geranium is not only obscene but unjustifiable by ANY measure. We are not cheapskates nor do we count dollars when experiencing fine dining. But to pay $925.00 for two people (including a $110.00 bottle of wine) is just beyond the pale...no matter what the meal consists of. Did we have Beluga caviar? No. Did we have lobster? No. So exactly what did we have that would justify such an exorbitant cost? Yes, we did have razor clams that, apparently, take four days to make (really?). Look, we've dined at Paul Bucose, Le Bernadine and many, many other three star restaurants that didn't even come close to the cost of Geranium. And I'm still scratching my head, why? The food is outstanding but certainly no better than we've experienced at several other restaurants for far less. Want a few examples? Ciel Bleu in Amsterdam for one. Le Bernadine for another. I could name a half dozen restaurants that were as good or better than Geranium for 25%`30% less cost. As for the service: it was very good (as it should be with a three star status) but no better than I've had at many two star restaurants. I would love to coo and compliment as others have on this site about how this is the best dining experience I've ever had but that would be disingenuous. IF this restaurant cost 25%~30% less than it did would I be exclaiming its virtues over others? Not really. A VERY solid dining experience but certainly no better than some of the finest restaurant we've dined at before. Sorry...but that's my humble opinion. read more

High finesse, really nuanced and detailed food. Strong vegetable and seafood focus. Dishes seem simple (e.g. Belgian caviar with pumpkin seeds and their water), but the combinations are delicious and layered. Good wine service - we let them choose and were served some tete de cuvee champagne offerings, Domaine Labet, Bonneau du Martray, etc. They also have a deep range of Comtes de Champagne. Nice have a nice larder of foods being preserved, too. Slightly odd location in a soccer stadium, but the dining room is a pleasant place. Probably as good as Noma. The matching wine menu was definitely better than Noma's. It is a very cool place, modern Danish decor very crisp and nice big tables, kind of a formal place. I liked it a lot. My only complaint could be that it was too brightly lit whereas Noma was too dark. For the people complaining about the formal show etc...try Relae, it is so casual that actually I regretted going there, sitting almost next to a guy with green sneakers and a baseball cap... Geranium was a good place to celebrate an anniversary. The most memorable dishes were: Razor clams and elements from ocean and beach. We were invited to the kitchen for a while sitting and watching the chefs in there, it was amazing how tidy, super clean and peaceful it was. If I were to wrap up the "universe experience" in one sentence it would be: Beautiful [semi]-edible works of art inspired by Rasmus' experiences and notions of Denmark, let down by the front of house and awkward pacing. Pros: -Getting to sit in the kitchen and watch a symphony enfold in front of your eyes. We were able to take as many pictures as we wanted, and the entire kitchen staff insisted in stopping their meal prep to take a group pictures with us. -Amazingly friendly chefs who were willing to converse both in the kitchen, and table-side. The chefs are truly passionate about their work and of Rasmus. So much so, that one chef spent quite some time discussing his past cooking at the French Laundry and the new-found inspiration he has at Geranium. -Beautiful presentation, and a unique perspective on Scandinavian food. Cons: -Inattentive waitstaff. At times a chef would come out with a tray of food, and have to wait for assistance to present the course at the table. For us, after finishing our penultimate course we were provided a keepsake menu. Unbeknownst to us, the final "course" was a mini box of bonbons obtained while paying. This would have been fine if the check was provided with the keepsake menu. However, we spent the next hour wondering where the last course was, and more importantly where a server was. Once we finally flagged down a server, he seemed somewhat fazed that he brought us the menus without the bill. -Lacking coordination between front of house and back of house. After finishing a course, a gentleman in the table next to us stood up to use the restroom. Rather than waiting for him to return, food came out and was placed on the table while he was still away. Which unfortunately made him miss the presentation and final dressings that each plate obtained, as well as allowed for food to be eaten past it's prime. -Awkward pacing. This could be attributed to a lack of coordination, but following the appetizer rounds, the main courses appeared at random intervals. One main course came out 30 minutes after the prior main course, while the following course arrived immediately after the table was cleaned. Overall, the food, creativity and EXCEPTIONAL tweezer use was great. But as an experience as a whole, it is definitely still lacking. At the price point of 1600DKK I've definitely had better all around experiences. But if you happen to be in Copenhagen, want a delicious meal for your eyes and your stomach, AND you'll be willing to take 5 hours out of your day (depending on wait staff) you should definitely try Geranium. On a side note to many finer establishments, if you're paying $300+ pp a meal why is coffee and tea still extra?!? read more

Impressive experience where the atmosphere, food, and service all were top notch. Going to a soccer stadium seems totally contrary to the typical Michelin experience. We were ushered in behind a fence and took an elevator up to the serene Nordic dining area with a view of Fælled park where I forgot that I was in a sports arena. Beautiful and simple new Nordic dishes were served with perfect pacing. Don't expect too many wild surprises, but you can count on tasty balanced dishes. We tried both the wine and juice pairings and were most impressed with the wines. There weren't as many different wines as some other Michelin restaurants I've been to, but the quality of each selection was clearly top notch. A highlight was their bubbles selection where we were given 3 options that were described in extensive detail. Another highlight was the tea/coffee and sweets service. The reception and waiters were attentive and friendly, but not over the top. Amazing overall experience, but not 5 stars due to the value. We were 4 people and paid 12200 DKK (approximately $450/ person). I would recommend Kadeau and Studio over Geranium for a new Nordic Michelin experience in Copenhagen. However, I would never turn down an opportunity to go back to Geranium ;). read more

A memorable dining/art experience with a view. We opted for the "light lunch" menu so that we could get a taste of Geranium. It takes two hours instead of three, and even then, it's one of the longest sit-down lunches I've had. Before we even made it known that we would be opting for the shorter meal, we were presented with a variety of snacks. They came at us at such a rapid pace. There was never really any time to wonder what would be coming next because we would be so focused on what was in front of us. Geranium is spoken about in the same breath as NOMA, and as part of the top 50 restaurants in the world it certainly has earned its reputation of fine-dining cuisine. This is an excellent alternative if you cannot get a reservation at NOMA, and it is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. I have very mixed feelings about the meal, and my husband enjoyed it a lot more than I did. Like some other reviewers, I felt there was too many theatrics and the kitchen was so quiet... I preferred the more casual atmosphere at Relae. Pros: - Excellent introduction to Nordic cuisine and fancy cooking techniques. Yes, they play with dry ice! - Presentation was incredible, each dish was a work of art. - With a really high price tag and 20+ dishes, I came out of the dinner 3 hours later really really full. - Wine and juice pairing went well with the dishes, and I really liked the juices. They were delicately flavored and didn't overpower any of the dishes. Cons: - It was indeed FINE-DINING and it was almost too sterile for my tastes. - One of the dishes was grass... We came with friends in November 2012. From start to end it was a good and fun experience and worth the price. Usually you do not see the "star"-chefs among the guests but Rasmus Kofoed could be seen carrying plates himself from the kitchen to the tables. 3 or 4 times during the evening he came to our table explaining what we were about to eat and from where he had gotten the inspiration for that particular dish. Well done!! The only glitch during the evening was that 2 of the wines did not really match the dishes and did not taste so good. We asked our super professional waiter if we could have the coffee in the lounge area instead of at the table. She arranged everything and took us there when the coffee was ready. Of course there is a big selection of avecs to be tried out. Compared to Noma I prefer the decor of Geranium but of course it is also much newer and modern in composition. read more

Overrated and overpriced. I was there for a private dinner and the food was pretty good, but honestly I don't get the hype.

When we booked our trip to Copenhagen it was due to getting fine dining reservations at a certain restaurant. But as I was examining other restaurants in the area, we decided to book a couple as it's likely we won't be coming back to Copenhagen anytime soon, and so I booked us into dinner at Geranium on a Friday night. I have to say that it started out really well. The venue is located in a gorgeous place, and it's on the eighth floor. You get a beautiful view of Copenhagen, and we were sitting right next to the window, and at 8 pm with the sunset, it really is a gorgeous sight. Unfortunately, it just didn't cut it for me. The food was interesting, but not amazing. There was a lot of flair and theatrics given to the presentation. There was a lot of finishing up done at the table, and a lot of self-preparation. The wine pairings were a bit off, and seemed more interested in going for the unusual instead of choosing wines that would pair well. And there were several times the wines had to go over a few courses, which never seems to pair as well. Also one of the wine pairings was a juice pairing and it seemed like they were going for a "sobering up" course, which just seemed silly to those of us at the table. For one course, we were invited into the kitchen, which was cool, but then our wine was at the table, so that pairing just didn't happen. Also we were seated at a table in the kitchen where we got to watch the chefs preparing food, but it would have been nice to have someone come and chat or something while we were there. Mostly we just got served the razor clam dish and got a photo taken. We were also seated directly behind the chef's awards. It's really pretentious to be seated there with the awards to be honest. I know that he's got to be proud, but does it have to be so in your face? Ultimately, while the experience was nice, if not a bit too formal for my liking, the price tag was just excessive. I mean, I know when I go fine dining, I don't really expect value for money, but with the money we spent, we just felt let down. The wine didn't seem worth the price tag, and the food, while nice, seemed more like it was trying to be pretty and unusual than just providing a nice delicious plate of food. Also given the meals we had the rest of the weekend, this place just kept getting more disappointing. The menus we received when we left had four courses on it that we didn't get. I don't know if they ran out, or forgot, or weren't planning on serving them, but when you see that and didn't get it, that disappointment just grows. Of all the places I went, this is just one place I can't recommend. The formality and experimental food may be five stars for some, but for me, the whole experience just didn't work. read more

I'd already heard spectacular things about Head Chef and Director Rasmus Kofoed, his remarkable ascent up the trophy rankings of the Bocuse d'Or being the main fanfare. Having received the first Michelin Star at Geranium and a world ranking of 49th in 2012, 2013 brought even more success in the form of a second star and progress up to 45th best restaurant. All of this meant that, for me, Geranium was an obvious choice for a visit. Our reservation was for 19:30, and we were seated at our table immediately and presented with our menu cards and wine list. The restaurant is sleek and modern, with large windows providing an excellent view of the skyline and the changing light as the sun sets over Copenhagen. Tables are large, widely spaced and neatly decorated - ours had sprigs of what I believe was sea buckthorn, one of the locally foraged plants that we'd find ourselves tucking into on a couple of occasions throughout the meal. The tables at the far end of the restaurant are afforded a view through a glass partition into the kitchen, although the kitchen is an experience that all diners get to enjoy at some stage of the meal, so don't feel like you're missing out! The experience of Geranium is a total immersion into modern Nordic cuisine. As explained by Rasmus over the course of the evening, the journey through each of the 22 courses is one unique to the region and the season. We all felt incredibly involved with the food, with many of the courses arriving without cutlery. We were encouraged to get hands-on with the bread and, with the scallop, to drink anything left in the shell. There is no pretension. The presentation is very natural, with courses such as the Dillstones, the scallop, the razor clam and the Green Egg appearing as if you may have just stumbled upon them. That dishes are presented by many different members of staff, including Rasmus, gives more of an impression of a passionate family business than anything else. Rasmus' vision for Geranium is apparent. It shows in the accolades on the kitchen table, in the rising restaurant ranking and, most importantly, in the dining experience. I was able to visit Geranium last November for their 16-course menu. Simply amazing! Great service, comfortable and unpretentious atmosphere, and a nice view even though the location can seem a bit odd at first. Servers did a great job at not only explaining what each dish was, but how it should be eaten. Each course was innovative and made us think "how did they think of that?" I also loved how much seafood was on the menu. Geranium was recently rated #19 in the world. I am certain this ranking will improve next year. Can't help but root for Geranium! read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Copenhagen for sure! I loved the approachability to the menu and I loved how interactive the chef was with the customers. The wines were okay, but the tasting menu was outstanding. One of the best dishes was the smoked langoustine on pine needles. Superb. The best thing was when one of the servers brought me over to the back of the kitchen where one of my desserts was served personally from the chef. I was able to meet the entire kitchen staff and take an amazing picture with them all. The vibe was so positive and encouraging as well. Usually in kitchens, the hierarchy is so obvious, but everyone had a mutual respect for one another which was great to see. The restaurant is modern and gorgeous as well. read more

Went here with some friends for dinner, after a very nice lunch a few months earlier. One of the top gourmet places in Copenhagen - and among some foodies it's viewed as underestimated with only one Michelin star (not sure I agree, when comparing to Nimb (under Thomas Hermann), Formel B, Noma etc). Food is great. Inventive, fun and not least tasty. Same goes for the organic wines! The asian-american sommelier was excellent. The service was good, but had IMO a little too much of the typical Danish restaurant phenomenon; the long theatrical (and formal!) sermon before each dish (there's many!), forcefully intruding the conversation at the table. Granted, many people go to these kind of restaurants to also get the whole theatrics of it all. but at this level and with the international ambitions, the staff should be better at "reading" the table to see what level of sermon is appreciated. Location is a little 'different' and not so traditionally inviting on the outside, but once inside the restaurant, it has a very nice and modern feel, with a great view of the city. There's not much that can be said about Geranium that hasn't already been said. I made this reservation a month before going to Copenhagen but didn't actually confirm (due to potential scheduling conflicts) until the night before and they were very gracious in allowing me to keep my reservation despite the late confirmation. We had the autumn tasting menu. My friend and I went to dinner and it was an incredible 4 hour experience. It honestly could have been 5 hours but we had to rush through service due to having to get up at 6AM for a flight the next morning..luckily our reservation was at 7:30 but we didn't leave there until 11:15! Everything was divine! Since we came at night we didn't see the soccer stadium that everyone on TripAdvisor seems to complain about (hehe), the views were great for us! I loved the space and the seating arrangement for 2 is very lovely and comfortable couch..maybe *too* comfortable during the dining experience. I didn't feel at all like the service was pretentious, it flowed and all the servers were very informative. I loved how everyone from kitchen staff to even the guy who was maintaining the front desk was serving us (and everyone else). That made it feel informal and just really nice. Food and presentation was perfect and well executed. There was nothing that arrived on the table that made me want to spit it out. haha and trust me, I've been to Noma, El Celler and many other fine dining restaurants that had at least 1 thing that made me go eww. So yeah, this was great! Would do it again for sure! read more
