We were traveling from out of town during the great heat wave of October 2017 when our AC went out and the check engine light turned on. Called them up and they said they could take a look at it no problem. Drove up and they looked at it right away. Took about 10 minutes in all. Told me what was wrong with it but was ok to drive. No charge! They were very nice and helpful. Too bad we don't live here and they couldn't fix it that day otherwise I would have had them fix it. read more

I really want to like this place. Dave seems to be sincere but they've had my car twice now and not only did they fail to replace an essential hose during the initial diagnostic, on the second trip, complimentary because of the first experience, the problem was once again misdiagnosed. I held off on scheduling the $350 repair since it didn't address the main issue I was having and I'm relieved I did. I used a vacation day for them to try to make up for the first mishap and won't be returning. A good mechanic is hard to find and at this point I'm really missing my former garage in Seattle. read more

Long-time happy customer. I'm not what you call wealthy, and they'll always tell me honestly if something needs fixing now, or if it can wait till payday or even longer. One time I took my car to the dealership down in SLO and was told I needed some engine work that would cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars, and I needed it Right Now or else! I went to Gerber's for a second opinion, since they're much closer to home. They could so easily have told me "Oh yes, you do need this, and we'll be happy to do it!" and gotten those hundreds of dollars in their own pocket. But they said "Nah. You might need it eventually, but it's no emergency," and didn't even charge me a penny for looking. I think that was at least a decade ago, and I haven't needed it yet. The service here was excellent. Met the owner and with a loud noise coming from the drivers side rear wheel had my CRV towed in. Knowing that we were on vacation he took our car next, diagnosed the problem, which was a stone caught between the stone shield and the rotor fixed it and charged only $30. Occasionally, when you are away from home you meet someone that reminds you that there are still good people in this world. My car was making a strange sound and I took it into the shop with hopes that it would not be a major issue. Dave knew what it was as soon as he heard me pull in, added power steering fluid and did not charge me a penny. He even gave me a piece off of a plant that I was admiring by their front door, to take home to my garden. Gerbers is top notch still. I had a major problem with my car. I called the shop at closeing time and Cameron answered. I asked when could I have my car towed down there so they could take a look at it. He said to have it brought down now !...Well, it turned out to be a VERY difficult and expensive to replace starter. They showed me how a can get it to limp along until I decide if its worth the cost to repair. And they did'nt charge me. One criticism though. They are not very fast at getting back to you so call them and ask whats going on.Otherwise,these guys are the best. read more

I have been taking my trucks and personal cars to Dave and his guys since the 70's. You will not find a more honest or sincere group any place you might look. Yes, Dave is still there most of the time (hasn't retired!), answering questions if needed, but mostly because he likes what he does. His son Cam is always ready to help, just like Dave does. Nice family. I have a daily driver van that recently had steering problem and I needed it fixed in a short time window. Turned out it had a suspension part that was failing and was very dangerous to drive! They had it fixed, ready to go earlier than expected and it steers like new. Could not ask for better service. The first person you meet when you enter or call is Corey. She is always friendly and works hard to get answers to your questions from the busy technicians, making follow-up calls as needed and doing her best to keep you on schedule. The mechanics at Gerber's Auto are honest and kind. A friend and I were having serious car trouble due to hitting a rock on our way up to Big Sur, the radiator was screwed. The car kept overheating so it took us a full day to travel 30miles. We arrived at Gerber's auto at about 10/11pm at night and then waited for them to open. Right when we walked through the door they were kind, helpful and sympathetic to our situation. Within minutes they had our car off the ground and were diagnosing the problem. They then informed us they were unable to work on our car, 2013 Chevy Volt, due to never have worked on that model before and not wanting to practice on our vehicle knowing how much we were depending it, they're honesty was very much appreciated. My battery was gone, and the owner of the shop sold me a battery of excellent quality at a much more reasonable price than shops I use in Fresno. This place used to be great, with five stars. But after the old guy retired, here's what's happened on my last visit: grease left on the off-white felt roof pillars which was difficult to get off completely, grease on the leather front seat which did come up with minimal cleaning. I cleaned these myself rather than bother them again. They failed to check the battery and it was dead next day as we were leaving for a trip. (I'd been in for oil change and *trip check* - you know, check fluids, battery, brakes, tires etc., prior to our long distance travel to be sure the vehicle is safe and fully functional.) They did not reset the maintenance required light so I looked it up in the manual and did that myself. I'd asked for a quote on tires but never received one even, after reminder calls and another visit. I don't want to find myself stuck with yet another place I used to depend on but now am afraid of what will happen after I leave because they didn't do what they were supposed to do. The lady at the front desk does not follow up and acts as if she can't be bothered. read more

Gerber's Auto really cares about helping people no matter what. On New Year's Eve my wife and I reached town at 3:00 pm to find our hotel room wasn't ready yet and so we drove down the street to the beach for an hour. When we returned to the car less than an hour later we discovered we had a flat tire. Panic raced through our minds since it was an hour to closing time before a major holiday that most businesses tend to close early on, and no one would be open the next day (New Years Day) and who would even answer the phone so close to closing before a holiday. However, our hotel recommended calling Gerber auto, and we spoke to a nice lady there who said if we came in she would let her technician know we were coming so that he wouldn't leave for the day. We found the shop in the industrial park and we were warmly greeted and chatted for a while with the receptionist. Meanwhile, the mechanic discovered we had a razor blade in our tire, but he was still able to patch it up for us in less than 30 minutes. We are so grateful to Gerber Auto for helping us at the last minute on both a national holiday eve, and for saving us so much stress (the next day was our wedding anniversary and we were 500+ miles from home with no way to go anywhere or get help). Gerber turned the whole catastrophe into a pleasant chat and friendly experience that we would gladly recommend them to anyone needing an honest and trustworthy mechanic. read more
