Doesn't look like much from the street, but Grubmate insisted, and (YOWSER!) an I glad I listened to her and turned into the large, level parking area at Upstream. Upstream is set up for the takeaway trade; yeah there's a couple of cocktail tables, but the drink coolers and tiny tables drop a string hint to 'grab & go'. We elected for the fried shrimp/tot platters, one each. After a day hiking along the shores of Lake Ozark we were ravenous! We picked up our platters and a couple of ice cold drinks and headed to a nearby park. After grabbing a park table and sharing our napkins, eating tools, and 'moist towelettes', we surveyed our meals. The shrimp were perfectly deep fried; perfectly seasoned with just a bit of spicy 'kick'. And there were PLENTY of shrimp in each container. The tots were simply perfect. Hot, crispy yet steamy soft inside. The tots seemed to have been dusted with ground Parmesan, garlic, and paprika; lending a entree flavor level to an item that many menus consider a mere side dish. The food prep area at Upstream is dominated by their cooler (pictured). The interior is spotless, the employees are friendly, and there's NO fishy smell! Upstream Fish Company is one of those shops that is hard to find something to say bad about. Not only do they serve an amazing product, but the staff have always been delightful to work with. The prices here are as good as the high-end fish markets in Saint Louis and I honestly think they could increase their prices without being unreasonable. Please don't though... The premade crab and shrimp boils are amazing ideas and the prices for them are extremely reasonable. If you are a fan of cold lobster rolls, they are also worth trying. In my opinion the best prepared item sold here is the smoked salmon dip, it is amazing! The clam chowder is also exceptional so be sure to try that. Over the past 6 months we have routinely stopped here to buy sashimi grade salmon and tuna. You better believe that we eat that stuff raw, and it is incredible! Go here and give them a try. I really like this tiny little place and the upbeat attitude of its employees. I didn't know they only had two tables for eating in, but we found one and ate lunch. They had a variety of fresh seafood on display and from the signage, must do a lot of party catering. They were also preparing a sizable order of crab cakes for shipment while we were there. Their frozen foods section had lobster tail, king crab and snow crab. We ordered the homemade New England Clam Chowder, which was delicious. My wife had the lobster roll and I tried the fish tacos. The lobster roll was great and though the fish tacos were good, i thought they lacked the interior ingredients for the true Mexican style (needed more cheese and guacamole, perhaps some salsa rather than spicy mayonnaise).
