Great for price! No reason to book upgraded tables on weekdays. Plenty of room. Drinks are quite expensive, but tasty. If you have 1-2, no problem. If you're a bigger drinker, maybe the higher end packages are for you (although you'll still pay extra cash to get top shelf and doubles). This ISN'T your PCC! That's good to me. 5:30-9, and you can drive so no buses necessary, plus more local vibe on the beach (instead of Mormon PCC that takes all day & a bus)! Dancers were adequate with a few phenomenal Tahitian female dancers on each end! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun, local Lu'au by the beach. Best luau ever! Germaine's is located near Barbers Point lighthouse and beach. At first you may think it's in a shanty town but it's in an industrial area. Upon entry to the venue you are greeted by a member of the staff. Once you check in you are shown the seating. Premium packages are seated in the front and basic in the back. Prior to the show you are invited to watch them pull the pig out of a traditional oven that was used. After that the magic begins! I would definitely recommend this to everyone. Wear mosquito repellant! I should have read some of the reviews warning about the number of mosquitos. I got 6 bites on my legs despite my efforts to fend them off. These bites are no joke and swelled up to the size of a golf ball within less than 24 hours. The show itself is definitely quality. They have very talented and attractive performers of both genders. The costume and dancing were beautiful and entertaining. They even had a fire show. The food was quite good. I was told not to expect much from luaus but I really enjoyed the buffet. They had a good variety of food and everything was delicious. It's all you can eat so I ended up eating way too much. My only complaint is the bar. I bought premium seats so I got premium drink tickets but the drinks were so weak. They also have premium cocktails that require 2 premium drink tickets each. We chose this Luau based on #Fluffy #Gabriel Iglesias's reco in one of his stand ups. Although I still love his stand up, he steered us the wrong way. We paid for the top Plumeria pkg and it was NOT worth $445. Best part of this Luau is the ocean view and perhaps some of the employees' friendliness. Outside of that, everything was meh! Food was bland and very limited in options, comparable to having cafeteria foods. Our pkg included 3 drinks. We stuck with wine and beer bc the cocktails were nothing to brag about. Show was also under performed, nothing spectacular. Ambiance could have been more. They could have tiki torches to add to the mood, and more importantly, help to keep the flies away. We should've brought our own fly trap. Sorry Fluffy. This one's a fail. I would look into some other options read more

After friends/family had recommend this luau, I was excited to celebrate my Husband's birthday dinner here. When we arrived, we were greeted right away. We were taking a family selfie & the host offered to take a photo of us, super sweet of her to do that. Check in was a little slow, but I felt it was on Island time, so that's okay. We get our photo taken by the photographer, which was a plus, but man.... I really wish she could've been standing on a step stool, or at least standing higher than we were. Chin photos are cool and all, but not when your entire family develops an extra 15 of them trying to look at her while she is practically to the ground pointing the camera upwards. Still bought the photo though, for $20 why not. Just can't go on the Christmas cards now. The view though, WOW! Sunset, ocean, WOW! Talk about beautiful. You're walking on sand, so just remember that when you try and navigate around. Now, the show itself was good, the dancers were entertaining and definitely kept the vibe of the crowd going. The MC was really hard to understand. He spoke really fast and I could make out maybe 4 out of every 15 words he spoke. My kids, couldn't make out anything except for "cousin" The food was "eh" - it's buffet style, lots of options and is your typical Hawaiian Luau food. I wish I would've opted for the Veggie option as I couldn't manage to eat any of the meat. The white rice was AMAZING though, thank goodness for that! :) The fire show at the end had our jaws dropping! I mean, WOW! At the end, you could take photos of the dancers. Sadly we were told to come early because doors open at 5, which is absolutely wrong, it's assigned seating and we arrived at 4:45.. show/dinner didn't start until 7:30, total waste of time. After "starting" there was so many awkward silences and not at all entertaining. The MC was quiet, I'm not sure if it's a technical issue or she wasn't loud enough. Food was horrible. The website says you can entering parking at 5 but they made us wait, than entered and had to do a circle for a pitcher we did not want. Not really handicap friendly, i'm disabled but noticed it would be impossible to use my wheelchair here but i can walk with limits, i guess food that this place had nothing to really do, no prior events, gift shop was bleak, we had plumaria package that just means you sit closer in very hard wood picnic benches and get to eat at the very limited buffet (seriously 5 sides and 3 meats) the area was full of flies all over the food and a lady fanning the bread which wasn't even warm or very soft and 2 small deserts of a cake and coconut squares, rice but no soy sauce ! i can't imagine how uneventful it would be if it was busier. the drinks were great and the entertainment was enthusiastic and fun but very limited, the service staff was amazing ! but the event staff could learn from the bar staff and entertainment, they weren't very approachable. overall, i've been to paradise cove and the Polynesian luau that far surpass this, for the same price ! read more

The food was awful, location is hard to get to (book an Uber in advance). It is surrounded by the industrial district and it is literally next to a junkyard/landfill that you can smell when the wind blows. The show was great. The service was poor as the waitress never returned when we were trying to ask for more food before the show began (had our indicator light on for about 10 minutes with no response). They did do a good job of social distancing. I have been to three other luaus in years prior that were more worth the price. read more

Avoid. I have never felt so compelled to write a review. The most entertaining thing about this place is reading all of the yelp reviews that agree with my assessment. They charge you $88 for 3 hours of back pain, mediocre cafeteria food, a less than entertaining show, and one quickly made tiny cocktail. Probably the most egregious tourist trap I've ever had the misfortune of participating in. Your kids will be bored, your family/friends will hate you, and you won't even be offered enough liquor to numb the dullness that is this absolutely egregious waste of time and money. read more

Check In time was at 5pm and show was supposed to start at 530. Well, they had us waiting in our car for almost 40mins. Food didn't start until 7. Just Keep Driving, you will get there. My husband kept telling me this can't be where it is, this is all industrial, KEEP DRIVING! Its Touristy but so much fun. I dint want to deal with the crowds so I sprang for the upgrade to sit in reserved seating and not have to stand in line at the buffet plus we got extra drink tickets and photos with the dancers, To me it was worth it! The seating is not comfortable for the amount of time your seated, and I ended up taking my shoes off since its was all sand. we had a few couples at our table and front row seating. Buy the plastic Germaines cups, you get more to drink that way. When it was time for dinner, we didnt have to stand in line, they brought our plates to us at the table. We have gone to a number of luaus here on Oahu Germaine's is outstanding. From the people that helped us park and get into the facility to all the staff that greeted us they were professionals and made you feel like family. The food was great and the atmosphere is even better. The performers were walking around before the performance and talking everyone and made us feel welcome. The Hula show was very well done. The fire dancers are all amazing. The young lady fair dancer was superb, and the chief was an artist to watch. I would highly recommend Germaine's luau to anyone on Oahu. This place is a joke! I went here in 2013 and it was fine then. They purposely will take the water bottles off the the buffet table once food is served and will charge you $1 a bottle and if you are paying by card you will have to purchase over $10 of drinks just to get water. Trying to be responsible drinker. Highly recommend going to other venue like Paradise cove or Polynesian Cultural Center where they don't charge you for water. read more

Haven't been to Hawaii in 20 years and two in our group this time have never been. So, we decided we should give them the experience of a luau. Last time we came we visited the Poly Cultural Center, that was fun and entertaining. In my opinion, Germaine's was a little cheesy. The MC was a little hard to understand at times (maybe his accent + talked too fast, ‍). The food was average. The location is way out of the way. Know what I know now, I would say spend more to stay in the Waikiki area. Don't be creeped out when you pull into the proximity of the luau and your in an industrial area! read more

First, this place is located next to a dumpster location or something cause it smelled like poop the whole night we were there... while it is not the company's doing, it is located right next to the sewage plant or the wastewater treatment plant. The whole night it reeked of this nasty sewage smell...We got our drinks, ate the buffet dinner we paid for, & left before the show even ended. The foul smell was too much for me. The place was great. Drinks were good. It's located right next to the beach so the scene was beautiful... The food was good for the price. Parking was easy. Lots of parking. My first visit to Germaine's Luau was over 20 years ago. I could have sworn it was better back then, but its still a decent time out. The performers still put on a good show, although I think there are now fewer performers than before. Some of the decline is probably also due to the Covid protocols that they are forced to deal with. I had to knock off a star for the terrible cocktail choices. Back then, I remember getting a lava flow and a banana banshee, among the choices. They now only serve mai tai and blue hawaiian as the only choices aside from beer. read more

We had very good experience with Germaineu Luau. I booked the Hibiscus tickets with Expedia which includes transportation. It's important not to drive your car unless you have DD with 3 drinks per person... I consumed all extra ones from my family members... :) One thing we really like is they provide the seating arrangement before our arrival. They place the name tag on the table and the host can guide us directly to it. Once the buffet start, they notify each table to go in order. I paid $80 dollars to see a cheesy-show with random audience participating, 3 drink tickets, and cafeteria-style fake Hawaiian food that looks like that could be brought from a deli section at a local grocery store. For the buffet, you will be handed out a rectangle tray that reminds me of my elementary kid days, you will get potato salad, coleslaw, house salad, battered fish, dinner rolls, pulled pork and beef. after eating half of the tray, I couldn't eat anymore... it's just plain. My Hawaii experience was going downhill. This luau is filled with a bunch of tourists who have no idea what they're watching. Bleh, I was expecting a spectacular show and to learn Hawaiian culture. Disappointing on so many levels. For starters, the location is off the beaten path. They are located in next to some refinery looking complex along with several recycling yards. Not ideal for the tropical ambiance you'd expect. Next, expect a lot of flies and mosquitos. We got them. Moving on to the bar shack. While the service is friendly, it looks more like a snack bar at the park. The drinks were weak, too sweet and over priced. While you get two drink tickets, one premium drink and your done. Moving on to the food. It's buffet style which is great but the presentation felt like you were going through a prison line. It starts with being given a thin cardboard tray and a cheap fork (no knife). All good was self serve via an ice cream scooper except for the main/hot food. The chicken was vey rubbery. The meat was good but you didn't get much. Desserts were cafeteria slices. It just seemed cheap and wasn't that good. It rained most of the time we were there. They provided ponchos that most us used for the wet benches. When we asked for an additional poncho to wear, we were questioned and told we shouldn't. Have used them for bench covers. The whole point is not to get wet! The ponchos looked like inexpensive and looked like they were out of an Oriental Trading Co catalog. I'm embarrassed for them. The only positive note was the performances and performers but this too had some flaws. The outfits/costumes looked cheap. I've attended this luau three times over the past 30 years and it really has change and gone down hill. Out time there only lasted an 1 1/2hrs. Come on Germaine's ! For the price one pays, you can do better. Much better and I've experienced it many years ago. Step up and create a better experience that is more in line with Hawaiian hospitality and style. read more

And they also provide 3 tickets for drinks (alcohol or non-alcoholic drinks) They provide bus pick up at your hotel. The bus arrived on time at our Waikiki Beach Hotel, our tour guide, Cousin Wally.. he is hilarious!!! When we got to the luau, they gave us these seashell leis and took a picture of us (in which you'd buy at the end of the night if you wish). The luau was pretty good. I have nothing to compare it w/ since it was my first luau. But I imagine other higher priced luaus probably have better performances than Germaine's. And you probably get flower leis than seashells. The food was okay; not the best. I had better laulau - the pork wasn't smokey enough, in my opinion. For $62 you get food, drinks, and a show. i think it's worth it. As the saying goes: you get what you pay. And for a first timer, this isn't too bad.. i can proudly say that i've been to a luau. and LOL to Sasha L.'s comment where she mentioned "The MCs spoke like they were 1950s game show announcers..." Our show started over an hour late, I'm guessing it was due to a late arriving bus. A whole table of plumeria guests arrived late and ate first so we waited a looong time to eat. We were there from 5:30-10:00 PM with not even an hour or actual entertainment. We were really tired and just ready to leave by the end. The food wasn't even good. Only the Kalua pig was ok. Everything else was just meh. And the desserts were not at all tasty. didn't return for seconds. The announcer was terrible and inaudible. I couldn't understand anything he said. Cheesy, touristy, and for the first-timer. I've been to a few luaus before and this was a disappointment. TripAdvisor recommended this, and yes, it is the oldest luau, but that doesn't mean it's the greatest. If you think you're lost, you're not because it's in an industrial area, which looks really odd. LOTS of party people from the tour buses as the audience. It was geared towards people who probably spend all of their time and money in Waikiki and know nothing of the cultures of Polynesia, no previous exposure. They didn't really focus on the culture aspect of the islands, but simply gave the audience what was expected. Like, they call people up and dress them in silly coconut shells on guys and make them dance.... stuff that's expected and you've seen it before. Also, I didn't expect them to make some sexual innuendos when the dancers performed too, especially when there were kids. Like, when the dancers are dancing, the narrator told us to pay attention to their hand motions, which could be interpreted as masterbation. The narrator talks even during the chants/dances. Best way to sum this show up: similar to a Vegas show. I highly recommend checking out the POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER (PCC) for an amazing experience of learning the cultures and a first luau experience. read more

Good times!!! What a dramatic improvement in the food, most definitely and even the hula show, too. Our little one enjoyed the music and hula dancing, too. Hubby liked it so much he said we should go again (our little one's constant hand-clapping was the deal-closer). The costumes of the hula dancers seemed to be different than what I remember, very pretty & colorful. It's almost like the entire luau had a complete overhaul. We were very pleased that we chose this luau (I think there was a $20-$25 difference). Our brief history with this luau in particular: 1st time we went, there was a power outage, 2nd time we went, it was just alright, but this time, man, I cannot stop raving about the deliciousness of the food. I wanted to eat some more but I didn't want to get sick (long ride going back to Waikiki). Seriously, the food was EXCELLENT. I liked everything I tried- mahi nuggets, beef, chicken, pork, noodles, salads, rolls, and I tried most of the food that was offered (85%), and I went up for seconds. So, I got a couple little portions of dessert to compensate for eating. Drinks were generous, as each person gets three drink tickets. Also, all soft drinks are complimentary, which is unusual, but very much appreciated. It's quite a ways from Waikiki (you can bring reading material or take a nap). You will board a comfortable tour bus (numbered)over there, and it's the same one you board when returning to Waikiki, too. Location is not what you'd think of when picturing a luau; it's in an industrial district. Very well-organized (as is most Oahu-Waikiki tours). Once you get off the bus, you get in line to take a picture (which will be passed back to you when you get back on the return ride to Waikiki- it's your option to purchase it). Long picnic tables in the sand is the dining area. Wrapped sliced pineapple is the appetizer left on tables tops. Groups with young children get to the food stations before general guests. For certain dishes, a staff person puts it on your plate. Stage is up front and center. BTW, there is dance participation/volunteer moments in the middle of the show. Bar is to the right. Bathrooms & smoking area were to the far left side, also near the small gift shop. Service is excellent as staff is always on hand to collect your dirty plates and empty cups. TIP: take beach view/palm tree scenic pictures before sunset as the show is the only lighted area come nightfall. Here's a quick rundown on the other luaus (or luau types) we've been to, over the years: While the Paradise Cove Luau has gone way down, the quality of food used to be excellent, the activities before the show are pretty neat, and the show itself is excellent, very entertaining. The Princess Kaiulani's "Creation" food is excellent (in Waikiki), but the show is alright; it's entertaining, but not great. The Ali'i Kai catamaran's food used to be great, but has gone down considerably (a shame), the show is great (lots of fun and participant dancing), the ride is pleasant (smooth), and the service is really good (but the drinks are frequently being upsold by the staff). To reiterate, come here for the delicious food, drinks (3 drinks per person; soft drinks are complimentary), luau show (pretty costumes and great dancing), and all-around good time. We decided to go to Germaine's after reading luau reviews and a recommendation from a friend on Oahu. It is located in a business / industrial district, and you wouldn't even know it existed if you happened to drive back where it is. We stayed in Makakilo, so we drove ourselves there (rather than taking the tour bus w/ guide). It was AWESOME to not have to deal with Waikiki or H1 traffic. They do offer Kama'aina rates which were significant savings from the normal rate. Just ask for it when you call to make your reservation. Only 1 person in the group has to be Kama'aina to get the rate for everyone. Once we parked and headed in, it was like we were transported to another world. Based on other recommendations on Yelp, we got there around 5:15 (show started at 6). Some of the tables were reserved and there were quite a few people there already. We wanted a table in the center, but they were all already taken from the early arrivals or the reservations. There were tables in the very front which were ground-level....the seat was on a mat in the sand. We chose to sit there rather than off to the side at a normal table or way in the back at a normal table. We did have to look up the whole show, but I enjoyed being so close and being able to see and hear everything. Apparently the true traditional luau style is to sit in the sand at short tables. If you want a really good seat at a normal table, I'd recommend getting there no later than 5! We were pleasantly surprised that our entrance ticket included three drink tickets (and all sodas were totally free). The mixed drink I got was only 1 ticket per drink. My husband got a Maui Brewing Company beer (can't remember which one), and that was 1 ticket + $3. So I think specialty drinks / beer do cost a little extra. If you're a beer drinker, take a koozie to help keep your beer cold. If you forget one, you can pick one up in the gift shop...which is what I did. :) There were pre-sliced pineapples on the tables to snack on before the show started. The show was really entertaining and educational. I thoroughly enjoyed the visual journey through different parts of the Pacific. I feel like we saw a lot of different styles of outfits and dancing. The food was really good, too. There was definitely a good selection of food. We sat across from a couple who were vegetarians, and they were able to fill their plates with plenty of food. Some reviews that I read stated the gift shop closed early, and they didn't let you go back to the buffet for seconds. I found both of these statements to be untrue. They let us go back for seconds or thirds, and the gift shop was open at the end. However, I would recommend hitting the gift shop before the show starts, because once it's over, there's quite a rush for everyone to get out and head back home or to their hotels or tour bus. My favorite two parts of the show were 1) the girl who danced to the wedding song - it was just beautiful and 2) the fire dancer - he was SUPER talented. If you get chilly easily, I'd recommend taking a sweatshirt, as it gets a little chilly once the sun goes down. What was disappointing is that it felt like a money grab. We booked months in advance but when we arrived found that most of the tables were reserved. The only table available was a 90 degree angle to the stage. It's no secret that anyone sitting at those tables has a horrible view yet Germaine's continues to utilize them. If Germaine's valued their guests they would sell to less people and remove the tables with a horrible view. Everyone heads to the bar once the luau opens. They have two bartenders at one location. Line is about 50 people deep. I don't think it would take much to have a few additional locations to get drinks. The show, from the little bit I could see, seemed fine. It felt cheesy but perhaps that's what luau's are. Food was surprisingly good. My recommendation is to pass and spend your money elsewhere on the island. read more

The food was buffet style and really delicious. We bought our tickets on base so it was slightly cheaper. As we were getting our food, there were 2 servers that came to us and assisted getting food for our 2 young kids and they were very friendly with them. Entertainment was awesome and very lively. I thought the hostess of the show sang really well. Only bad things were this is located in between some factories, but once the luau was in full swing, the smoke wasn't bothersome. My Ratings: Quality - 4 Stars (quality of everything) Quantity - 4 Stars (quantity of food) Price - 4 Stars (price we paid) Location - 5 Stars (location of the luau) Service - 5 Stars (service in the bus) Speed - 5 Stars (speed of driving) My Opinion/Story: Our first luau and we were both excited and nervous. Excited to see what happens and nervous to be kissing strangers. I yelped this place before we booked it and I really didn't want to be kissing strangers. Lucky for us they were careful not to do that due to the recent flu issues. I've read alot of bad reviews about this place but I guess it depends on who you get as your bus host and how high your expectations are for the entertainment and buffet. I wasn't concern much about whether we'll enjoy it or not because we're getting this luau for free. Our party started the moment we stepped in the bus. If you're lucky to get into the bus with Cuzin Kuhio, you'll definitely have a blast. I had more fun in the bus than the entire luau. He definitely made it worth the price other people paid with his entertainment. He's also pretty good at singing, dancing and joking around. I guess those who reviewed this place really low are those who got stuck with other tour guides. Food was mediocre. Typical of any buffet. Most food are tasteless and only one dish is good. They give you three tickets for alcoholic drinks. The entertainment is very good with good looking people. I can't expect much for a luau since this is our first but I really had fun especially since it's free for us.. =) read more
