Germaine's Luau is a lot of fun and the food was just OK. I tried the pork, beef, chicken and fried fish. I'm giving it 4 stars because the performances were very good, the view of the ocean was breathtaking and 3 free drinks which you get in the huge Luau mug you can purchase from the gift shop. The event was also very well organized and kept you entertained from start to finish. We also got our tickets for $62 which was a lot cheaper than some of the other luaus on the island. The food I must say wasn't anything to rave about. The pork and beef were about the best on the menu and everything else was quite ordinary. Lovely luau in Kapolei. We could not come to Hawaii without attending one, and I knew my husband's attention span would not last at PCC. Germaines got rave reviews from my local ohana, and I heard they made fantastic chicken long rice, so I was sold! We decided to take the free provided transportation which picked us up at 4:45. Our hostess Donna O, was the BEST! She had a fantastic personality and is probably the favorite auntie in her family! After a gut busting entertaining ride, we arrived to the simple but beautiful grounds of germaines. After a quick picture ( shout out to the staff for letting us take a selfie) we got our seats at picnic tables and watched a few opening numbers before dinner. Dinner went very smoothly and the line went quickly. I got ALL the chicken long rice I could put on my plate. The food was hot and plentiful and had a great flavor. The entertainment was lovely and was not too long or too short. We truly had a good time here at Germaines and would recommend it to other who come to the island. read more

This was not at all an enjoyable experience. The location is in the middle of an industrial park. Says drinks are included, in reality you just receive 3 drink tickets for well liquor drinks - no option for premium liquor. For $200+ per head, you'd think you could at least get a margarita made with something that costs more than $5 a bottle! The food was buffet style, and served on cheap paper plates, unlike most of the other luau's on the island where each course is brought to the table (despite being more expensive than most). So you wait for a bit before they open you walk in get seated .... They make you get some drink cups and sell you drink tickets which are way over priced for the cup full of sugar they give you .... You watch some entertainers and dancers , then you watch some people take the pigs out of the ground (smells amazing) then you sit back down have dinner which is average , and watch them dance more and wallah....... The entertainers are very nice , the atmosphere is great for family and fun .... The down falls for me we're the fact that the luau is not really ocean view as they advertise but you can partially see the ocean if you look for it , and another huge downfall is the drinks.... See I don't mind expensive drinks but I do mind watered down or overly sweet expensive drinks .... Every ticket is 5 dollars and I spent 3 tickets and tip so they would make my drink less sweet and more alcohol that is $15 bucks a drink which was filled with syrup .... Unacceptable ..... For the luau experience if they actually cared to get people a bit drunk maybe it would be more fun hehe I had fun tho for a once in a lifetime experience ... Never again tho hah read more

The last 2 Years, we went to the Hale Koa luau and enjoyed that. This year we decided to try Germaine's, out Kapolei way. Although they did not have any audience participation events or displays, we enjoyed ourselves. Let me start with two small criticisms/issues. Seating is on wooden picnic benches -- sitting on them for 3.5 hrs just killed my back and butt. And the entertainment was good, but not outstanding. Now the good -- layout of the place is great! Great locations of the bathrooms, bars, soft drink stand, and buffet line. The bar is large with 5 working bartenders so there is no waiting. The food is good for this kind of commercial luau, and plentiful- nobody should leave hungry. Large restrooms so no lines of people waiting. The seating arrangement is such that the first row of tables around the stage are the high cost seats. I bought my family 5 seats in the second row, at slightly lower cost. But since I booked 6 months in advance, I was assigned the best seats on the second row of tables -- front and center. In fact, our seats were better than the first row of tables off to the sides of the stage. I guess it is advantageous to be anal like me and book super early! So we were very happy.....one thing....if you go during a work day, the evening rush hour traffic is horrendous. It will take you 1.5 hours from Waikiki to get there. read more

Being in Hawaii for the first time definitely means seeing a luau! We booked through the tourist agent at our hotel for $72 a person, but found there were cheaper alternative for the same luau elsewhere if booked... We were picked up at a hotel, not of our own, but one hotel down the block. And at first the person who we checked in with seemed rather rude and pushed us aside after telling us our bus number... We waited, and our bus came. Luckily our tour guide, cousin Aka, was better than we had hoped. 15 Hawaiian minutes means 30+ minutes I swear as he said that's how long it'd take to get to the Luau. Aka kept the bus entertained to and from the luau and was probably the highlight of the trip as he shared his history with us, the history of Hawaii, and he sang beautiful songs written by his grandma. Felt like a real taste of Hawaii minus the tourist sights everywhere. The luau itself was wonderful, we sat in the front on the sand and it wasn't a bad experience. Although, sitting in the center table had us place in line last for the buffet line... The drinks were strong, and we were hinted if you purchased the souvenir cups you get more for your drinks. I see reviews that the drinks weren't strong enough, but the cups were filled with alcohol with just a touch of Pepsi for our long island. The food was decent, but having Ono's earlier in the day made it hard to find anything better. However, I felt sick after eating the mahi mahi and couldn't eat the rest of my meal and stuck with the dinner rolls with butter. The show was wonderful, and one of the dancers seriously reminded me of Lilo from Lilo and Stitch (not a bad thing) because of her eyes and nose. The men were wonderfully skilled at dancing as well as the women, and the music was wonderfully dramatic. I could have done without the table next to me filled with early kids in their early 20s wanting to drink themselves silly. The location itself seemed off as we did drive through industrial areas, but the beach was breathtaking and the sunset itself was more beautiful than imagined. I can see myself seeing this luau again in the future, but not for some many years as I think going to the same luau over and over again may take away some of the fun. Maybe next time I'll build up the courage to jump on stage with the other people and learn to dance the hula or compete representing my great NW. read more

This would have been a 5 star review, but at the very end it was marred. Since we are local, my family and I drove to the Luau, and didn't get the full experience of taking the bus. From what I gleaned at the luau, the bus drivers are very entertaining and someday I would like to take part in that. The evening started out well; taking pictures on the beach, and getting "lei'd". The show is absolutely fantastic and goes on throughout the night, entertainment from start to finish. All in a family friendly, beautiful, and relaxing atmosphere. There were children playing in the sand, and adults enjoying drinks on the beach. There were many people celebrating events, and the MCs were nice enough to announce a lot of them and create a real family atmosphere. The food was great, they even had a torch lighting ceremony where you could see them bringing the pigs out of the ground. The kalua pig for the most part was perfect, but I think I got a bad part of the pig, there were numerous hard shell like nodes in my pork, but my husband and the rest of our family did not have any of that. I guess with that much food going out, there has to be a couple of imperfect batches. The only complaint I have with regard to food and drink is that the soft drink area is really out of the way. You can get alcoholic drinks easily which is great, but I just wanted a soda and it was a bit far. They have an excellent fire dancer and the rest of the show is very entertaining. All the music is live, and the singing was beautiful. The minus star comes in because at the end when pictures were being taken, one of the cast members was very rude and that rudeness ruined an otherwise great night. It was almost as if they were so rushed to go home for the night that they couldn't accommodate anyone but the tourists leaving on the bus. It was a no aloha moment, but I can't hold that against the entire production. I would highly recommend this luau. I am usually not one for Hawaiian food and the outdoors but this was a great combination of both. read more

COVID 19 restrictions are not being followed here. As of today, the restrictions are to limit 25 people in outdoor settings and 50% capacity for restaurants and bars. The 8/15/21 show had 550 attendees . We were sat at a picnic table with 5 other strangers, elbow to elbow. Some people were not wearing masks and they were coughing. When we parked our cars, we were told to stay inside. Around 5:15 pm, people started lining up and at 5:25 pm, someone came out to say that they would check people in. No one came to let us know how or when to leave our cars. After I spoke to an employee, she came back 5 minutes later and told me to get in line. By this time, the line was wrapped around the area. She squeezed me in the middle of the line so people behind me were upset to say the least. Not cool. As for the food, it was just ok. They served about half a cup of mixed fruit, few pieces of lettuce , a small container of lomi lomi salmon and a bottled water. The dinner was a scoop of macaroni salad, rice, bbq chicken, roast pork and steamed fish. You are free to get seconds and thirds if you'd like but the first plate was more than enough for me. Dessert was haupia and what tasted like a boxed vanilla cake. You get one small cup of alcoholic beverage and sodas are free. If you'd like to buy, a small cup is $5 and the 16 ounce glass is $11. The Mai Tai was not great so I did not purchase anymore drinks. Performance was nothing too great either. The schedule on their website says it starts at 5:30 pm and ends at 8 pm. Our show did not start until everyone was seated which was at 7 pm , and did not end until a few minutes past 9 pm. Overall, I was disappointed with the luau experience. It was very very crowded. I have not seen anything like this since COVID started. I really want to support our businesses but not if they have no regard to the restrictions in place. I want to keep myself and everyone around me healthy but this place does not seem to care. I wouldn't go back. And if I cared enough about someone, I wouldn't let them go to Germaine's Luau at least until after all the COVID restrictions have been lifted. read more

To me this is the P-A-R-T-Y luau. All I remember doing was drinking... I just turned 21. It's a good excuse. The food was good w/ typical meal choices w/ the Kalua, mahi, lomi and others. The ride was smooth and "Cousin Reno" did his best to warm us up and also teach us a little of the local culture and history as well as the history of Germain's Luau. Second, the presentation was very good. The dancing was entertaining and the MCs do a good job of keeping everyone interested in the show. The audience participation was also nice. Unfortunately the food isn't very good. The pig was ok, but the fried chicken was rubbery, the rolls were dry bordering on stale, and the salad was pretty pathetic. Very well done. The entertainment gets four stars. The bus ride there was also part of the entertainment, as the facilitator on the bus remembered everyone's name, was well travelled and played the ukelelei for us, among other things. The food was good especially the pork, very tasty. Food was plentiful. Napkins were hard to find, though. Cups for soft drinks were a little small, so I had to keep about three cups in front of me, to keep from making many trips to the soft drink bar. Lines usually moved quickly. Aloha! Experienced our first family luau with the kids about two weeks ago. Our driver was Cousin Shane and our tour guide was Cousin Wally we were on bus number 6. We had lots of fun with Cousin Wally. The day we went to the luau there was lots of traffic on the freeway due to a cement truck spilling over so we were late to the luau, but Cousin Wally had ways of entertaining us on the bus. He made up songs which made both kids and adults laugh. So we arrived at the luau late, didnt get to see the pig being pulled out of the ground, didnt get to try the pork laulau, and we didnt get to have time to get our drinks. Visited the luau to celebrate an 18 year old bday. Since we were a party of 10 or more. We got reserved seating Maki side. Ocean view beautiful, but we didn't have the best viewing section of the show. 3 drink tickets was a plus and the kiddos had unlimited nonalcoholic drinks. The dancers, the costumes, and music were magnificent. The firedancer was excellent. All you can eat, luau food was yummy. You have to drive thru an industrial park to get there. The teens enjoyed getting airbrush tattoos and dancing hula on stage. You have to get there early to get good seats. I wished that the dancers stayed longer at the end for photo ops with guests. This was my very first luau. My mom wanted to go for her birthday and so we went as a family. The entertainment was pretty good. Even though we were probably the only locals there, I still liked it. I feel like their seating could have been better. We had to move a few times, because some of the good seats were taken, and I have no idea, but they had a few tables lined up behind trees. We were lucky to find a good enough table with nice people to sit with. They have a good selection of drinks, even alcoholic. Each person had two drink tickets, and I didn't even use up both of mine. The food was ok. The chicken long rice didn't have any soup, so that was weird for me. The chicken, poi, and the fish were good. I was just a little disappointed that they didn't have any squid luau, but by its looks alone, most visitors probably wouldn't eat it anyway. The environment they created for the luau was very nice. However, a professor pointed out to me that the luau is located next to a car crushing plant. I found it hard to believe at first, but the luau is in a weird location to begin with. I would describe the area as the same industrial area by Sand Island. You pass all the power plants and metal, chemical industries to get to the luau by Kapolei. Tell me that's not strange... but overall, this is a pretty good place for a luau. It was also recommended over other places. read more

I came here with my family on New Year's Eve. We were among the minority group that drove here as opposed to the majority who took charter buses (I'm guessing it's some sort of group package thing). It was expensive, but it was one of those things that you just have to do while vacationing in HI. The luau was to start at 6, so we arrived at 5 to get a good table. It's all outdoor seating on the beach with a bunch of picnic tables and a few traditional low picnic tables where you sit on mats on the ground. The food was decent, but nothing really memorable. They had tables that had kids 10 & under get their food first, then the rest. We were one of the last tables to get up to get our food. One of the workers said that the tables with not so good views of the stage got to get food first.. I guess it's to make it even or something. The performances were really good. They showcased some of the cultures from Polynesia, including Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, and New Zealand. I apologize if I'm forgetting any. The music was great. The dancing was great. They made it fun by involving the audience. They had guys & girls go up to learn dances. They also had a contest between 3 guys to see who had the best dance moves. It was very entertaining. If you've never seen any Polynesian dance performance, this would be a great way to see so many all in one night. I had a good time and I would recommend it to others who go to HI. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because it wasn't really anything new or exciting to me because I've already seen polynesian dancing & eaten islander food. Despite the long drive from Waikiki to the Leeward side of the island, the Germaine's Luau was well worth the trip. It is a hidden gem driving through an industrial area to get to this location. We arrived early so there was plenty of parking for us. Once inside the gate, the palm trees will make you forget about the industrial area outside. You will get a shell necklace and photo. Then you proceed to the dinner area. Depending on you package you may get only one or two complimentary alcoholic drink tickets. If you did not buy a premium package, you may choose to sit near the ocean or near the restrooms and gift stand. We chose Oceanside so it was a long walk each time to get complimentary soda refills. When they unearth the pig, there is not a lot of good viewing area unless you buy a premium package to get first chance at seats in front. If you are there for a special occasion be sure to let them know in advance. We were among last to go through the buffet, but there was plenty of food for all you can eat. My kids actually ate fish! The emcee was great, the staff were wonderful and the cast was awesome. The fire knife show and hula dancers were amazing. Costume changes and different island dances were very entertaining. We have been fortunate to see this show twice, once pre covid and one post. Some positive things remain the same like the staff that treats you like family. They go above and beyond in customer service. They truly are amazing. The food has stayed consistent, good and large amounts ... especially the pork! So tender! The negatives are they are super unorganized on their arrival and seating times. The site says gates open at 5:15 and check in at 5:30. We arrived at 5:20 and could not enter until 7, standing awkwardly outside the gates until granted permission. Part of the pre covid show have been removed (the unveiling of the deep pit pig) and now you just sit. Our view was constantly interrupted with people getting up and standing directly in front of us, one man randomly sat down at our table and remained until the show was over . Would I recommend the show? Yes, the show itself is entertaining, great service and good food. Could it be improved? Absolutely! read more

My fiancé and I went to Germaine's for a Friday night show with a good sized crowd, wasn't sold out but still a good crowd of around 500 people. I am a dancer in California and the show was amazing! I loved it! The Dancers and staff all had high, positive energy and everyone was really friendly and helpful. The food was so delicious with classic luau food!! Gorgeous backdrop, location and a true gem you have to visit! My fiancé had asked for help after we got off the bus to pull off a proposal and they were quick to putting the perfect plan in action and more than happy to help him with the sweetest moment of our lives. We made it through dinner without rain, then the sprinkling began, but not too heavy. The male announcer, Tom Silva? Not sure on his name, but he talked so fast no one at our table could understand a single thing he said. Our group consisted of people age 40-70, and not one of us made sense of what he was saying about the costumes, the dancers, or the songs and what the dances meant. The woman who sometimes came out and spoke was clear, spoke slowly and concisely. Not a good experience and I heard from someone else they cut the show short. Not worth the money. read more

I was very impressed by Germaine's! We had booked a luau with another company but they cancelled it a few hours in advance due to expected rain. It was one of my last nights to go to a luau so we called Germaine's to book a reservation with them that night since they we're still open. They had a great deal for local Hawaiians and their friends (saving us $20 from the last company we booked with), and they also accommodated vegetarian on short notice. Once we got there, the workers we're all enthusiastic and provided rain accommodations such as rain ponchos and plastic to sit on if it did rain, which it did. Even though it was raining the performers put on the show just as well as any other night. I was very satisfied with my experience at Germaine's. read more

My first luau and first time in Hawaii. The food was pretty good and the show was awesome. My only concern was the transportation. Our bus was late and the driver was super rude to put it lightly. His name is Captain Phillip. I literately had one pina colada towards the end of the show about 3 oz left in my cup when I boarded the bus to leave. The driver walked up to me and said " get off the bus." I would have appreciated him saying I'm sorry ma'am no drinks on the bus, or would you mind finishing that outside but he was a total dick. Attended this establishment on a recent vacation. What it has going for it is the beach side location, but they need to feature it more. It is well organized. You get your food quickly once they serve it up. The 3 levels of service is a bit off-putting. Other than a few minor differences like number of drinks, seating location and when you go through the buffet there is little difference. You get the same thing sitting in the back. The picnic table seating is not great. Food is average at best with limited choices and little Hawaian food served. You can eat all you want, but there is no reason to. The best thing was the pork, all else was mediocre. The drinks are small so overpriced. The show I found one of the announcers super annoying. He talked like he was an auctioneer, you could barely understand what he was trying to say it was going out so fast. Slow it down, why does it need to be done so fast. And his cadence was predictable, ending each sentence with some exaggerated word. The hula dancers were OK. I saw three versions during the trip and they were second out of three. The best part was the fire dancers. The best of the three I saw on the trip. And I did not understand the waisted time of 4 bus drivers danincg on the stage. It was horrific. They are bus drivers. Some could not even dance in rhythm. What was the point of dragging them up there to dance? And can you stop saying the word, "party?" It was not a party atmosphere no matter how many times you yell the phrase in exaggeration, "Party Time" or some other concotion like it. read more

I have been going to Germaine's Luau since the 1970s. I have probably been to their luau at least a dozen times. I was on a cruise with friends to Hawaii and since we were going to be in Honolulu for two days I suggested we go to Germaine's Luau. It had always been good food in the past decades, but during this trip to Germaine's on December 11, 2023, the food was subpar and just ok....... Mediocre at best. The staff was very nice and friendly, and the show was as entertaining as usual, but most of the food was lacking in a big way. Also, we took the Robert's tour bus from the Moana Hotel where the driver was funny and friendly, but they had the restroom onboard the bus locked. The bus was full of senior citizens and not having a working restroom is not good when it takes at least an hour in traffic to get to the venue, not to mention stopping at all the other hotels along the way to pick up other passengers. I questioned the driver about this and he said that companies that contract to hire them have to pay extra for a restroom, and Germaines doesn't pay for the restroom to be open onboard. When I booked this luau through Germaines a few months in advance I asked if there was a restroom onboard the bus and was told that there was. Well, I guess technically there was, but if it's locked and not available to the Germaines passengers there isn't a restroom onboard. read more
