I came to Germaines because Ive heard that it was one of the best. If I had to pay full price ($90) I would not have gone. I got living social coupon and paid $45. For that price it seemed reasonable for me. The show was entertaining. They had multiple dances from different countries. The performers and staff were super friendly and welcoming.I honestly did start nodding off. Possibly because it was 3 hrs long and I spent the day at the beach. The food was typical. Nothing special. Kaliua Pig, mac salad, green salad, white rice, hawaiian bread. They did have some Salmon and fish nuggets. Location was odd. It was tucked away behind pipefitter shops and other similiar work. Again if I Had to pay $90 for the same price I would rather go to the PCC. Stunning place with amazing people and a lovely atmosphere. Sadly some lady with no happiness in her heart tried to ruin our experience. Your ticket comes with 2 FREE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. You can drink as much soda as you want here as well. The food is self serve, and there is enough for everyone to go back and get seconds. The luau is not directly on the beach, like it shows on the map though. THERE IS NO ACCESS TO THE WATER OR THE BEACH. You do not have to take a bus here. I think it may be cheaper to uber and buy your tickets there rather than take a tourist bus (after tipping your bus driver). You can take photos with the staff before and after the performance as well. Everyone leaves with a shell necklace too! The Food: All of it was amazing. Say what you want about its location near the industrial plant and scrap yards the facility is beautiful and the view is unbeatable. The pork was good but I think the chicken was the best! The Hosts were kind and helpful and the entertainment was fantastic. This is our first Luau but we were fans. If you interact and participate you will have a great time. I recommend this place for sure just for the people! The drink tickets are nice for alcohol so you can have a few drinks. We did have to wait a little for the show to start because one of the buses were stuck in traffic but they paid for a show and one of the drivers is in the show so I understand the wait. Heard so many good things about this luau, so I decided to take my mainland fam here. Plus, I live about 15 minutes from the grounds. I'm from the Big Island, so I've taken fam and friends to many great luaus over the years, so I was expecting a great time. I bought the Plumeria package, so we would have some benefits like being up front for the show, getting to eat earlier, and having our own bar. It started ok as we took pics and were shown to our seats. We went to get a few drinks to start with. At first, they tasted good, but halfway through the first one, they tasted too sugary. We only used about half our drink tickets, which means we decided not to drink half the drinks we paid for with the package. Many of the later drinks just became beers. It was time to get our food. The "plumeria" guests are served before the other guests. Well, as the plumeria guests were served the food, we somehow got skipped. We thought they went to get more plates for us since the hosts left the tray holders near our table, so we waited. The line filled up with the rest of the guests. We continued waiting. Then the announcement that seconds were open. Ok, we aren't getting food. I saw our "host" chilling behind the stage. I asked him what's up with our food, and he was oblivious about us not getting ours. Ho brah, wait till after work to smoke the pakalolo. He and some others scrambled to get us some plates, but by the time we got any food, it was cold and not very good. I make better Hawaiian food on the regular at home. Could have used some home-made laulaus around that time. The saving grace was the show, well the dancers anyway. The show was ok, but the auntie and uncle hosting were so-so. The male dancers, at times, didn't seem to like what they're doing, but at other times looked like they did. Maybe they only liked doing certain routines. I'm not sure. The female dancers were gorgeous and looked like they genuinely loved dancing. Hats off to them! Keep up the great work sistahs! Overall, not what I was expecting, especially from all the good I've heard about this luau. Maybe we have different standards on the Big Island. They definitely seemed to cater to the tourists and military. Don't forget the locals guys. My tips for having a better time at this Luau: 1. The plumeria package is not worth the price. You might want to just get the lowest price you can get. 2. Show up late. They didn't open on time, and there wasn't much going on for the first half an hour to an hour anyway. 3. Drink some quality drinks before going to the show, unless overly sugary drinks or over priced beers are your thing. 4. Enjoy the dancers and the show they put together. This is the best part of this luau. 5. If you're going to other islands, wait to go to a luau on the Big Island. It will probably be more authentic with better food. We came to Germaine's Luau to celebrate are 50 states Adventure. To celebrate our last few days in this beautiful Hawaiian island. We went there a little earlier and we were able to go to the surrounding beaches. Prepared to spend almost the whole evening there. We got there around 4 and we left almost around 10. The meal was excellent, a very Hawaiian traditional meal. The show was spectacular and the people as friendly as he can be. Where to even start... this place was a mess. My main point is do not come here at any cost, but for those wanting specific details just settle in - you'll be reading for a minute. Our awful experience began with the shuttle. We arrived at our pick up location in Waikiki promptly, but none of the vehicles had any signs indicating that they were from Germaine's. There was an unmarked white van we thought might be ours, but the doors were shut and the driver was inside, refusing to acknowledge anyone. I called Germaine's office and I was on the phone for 10 minutes, put on hold 3 times, and got no help. The answering employee didn't know what bus would be taking us, if it was there yet, where/who the driver was, or anything that was in any way helpful. A representative for the shuttle finally appeared about ten minutes after we should have already left, and was incredibly rude to us. He took a couple customers' names, but when I attempted to give mine to check in he stopped me very brusquely and walked away. He then waved us over to the bus (the very unmarked one whose driver had refused to acknowledge us), as if he was herding livestock. When we finally arrived at the luau, we were greeted by very enthusiastic and positive employees, but the evening still only proceeded to go downhill. We had paid for the Plumeria package which included 'front row' seating, but the orientation of the picnic benches means that only the party placed at the first half of the picnic bench actually has front row seats. We were sat at the end of the bench farthest from stage, so our seats were no better than the second row seats which are notably significantly cheaper. We raised this issue to the manager, who was stubborn and argumentative. At first he claimed that the website had adequately described the seating area so that we should have known what to expect, but when I showed him the site (see screenshots) he then changed to saying that the site can only provide a 'general example' of the seating. His proposed solution to our dissatisfaction was even worse: he suggested that he ask the other party at our table to trade seats with us so we could sit in front. We shot this down immediately, as they paid for a good experience too and it would've been unbelievably rude and entitled to ask this of them, but he suggested doing so several times! He was set on defending the venue, and kept trying to further the conversation, even after we told him we were over it and just wanted to try and make the best out of an experience we were now stuck at. The benches themselves were also awful- hard seating that left me (young and in good health) with back pain. The benches are also attached to the tables at both ends, which is a huge inconvenience for women like myself and many others who wear dresses to luaus and would prefer not to flash everyone when attempting to take a seat. Dirty, stained tablecloths too. The food and drinks were terrible. Our overpriced Plumeria package bought us 3 drink tickets, redeemable for anything on the menu. But everything on the menu was made with the cheapest ingredients possible. The blended drinks we tried, pina coladas and lava flows, were liquidy messes. I tried a melon ball that tasted like rubbing alcohol. At that point we gave up on our remaining drink tickets and settled for sodas. The food was passable, but at over $150 a ticket, passable isn't good enough. It was also served on disposable plates with plastic utensils, resulting in an experience reminiscent of grade school cafeteria food. The show didn't prove particularly redeeming either. There was far more talking (cracking crass jokes, audience shoutouts, etc) than actual performance. The performances were brief, and frankly they were garish tourist trap spectacles. Even from the audience it was clear that the costumes were cheaply made, and they resembled souvenir stand merchandise more than actual Polynesian attire. The dancers did seem to be giving it their best, but the lackluster choreography and music far outweighed their efforts to make for a truly abysmal experience. Had I known what I was getting myself into, I wouldn't have paid $15 for this, let alone the $158 per person that I actually paid. Alas, I cannot recommend a better luau on Oahu as this was the only one on this island that I experienced. But I'm willing to wager any other option here would be better, and those looking for a sure bet would be better off just vacationing in Maui instead (try Feast at Lele and/or the Old Lahaina Luau). Most of the employees here (servers, bartender) are incredibly sweet and sincere, so I'm dedicating that mandatory one star to their effort. Everything else about Germaine's was astoundingly bad. My first luau... It didn't disappoint, but it didn't wow, either. Visited Hawaii for the first time, and one of the must-do's on my list was to attend a luau. When searching for a good choice for a luau in Oahu online, I was surprised to see that there were many options. Some more expensive than others, but also some rated higher than others. I've read and heard from others that the Polynesian Cultural Center is likely the most popular choice, but I've read many reviews that there were better choices elsewhere, so I moved on. Upon reading quite a bunch of reviews, the consensus seemed to point the Chief's Luau. I called to book, but was flabbergasted to find that they are closed on Saturdays. I came to Hawaii for a wedding, and I was attempting to book a table for my wife and I, the bride, the groom, and their immediate families. They were only available on a Saturday, so Chief's was not meant to be. I am still dumbfounded that a business as such would choose to not operate on what is likely the most popular day of the week for its industry. Although Germaine's was on the more budget-friendlier side of the the luau spectrum, the reviews weren't terrible. As this was my first luau, I do not have a basis of comparison. As for the performance, my take in the end was that it was nice enough, but it just didn't wow me. The food? Since the luau was towards the end of our trip, I had plenty of chances to sample to local fares prior to coming to Germaine's, so I had a pretty good idea of what good Hawaiian food was. The food at Germaine's was just okay. The pork and the fish lacked some seasoning, but the chicken was pretty good. Overall, it gave me the impression of what a school cafeteria might serve if they served Hawaiian food. The setting? It was beautiful... right next to the beach, and the tables are on the sand, so it really makes you feel like you're at a beach luau. This was probably the best part for me. Because there are so many choices for a luau in Oahu, I would say that I will likely try others before coming back to Germaine's. But it certainly wasn't a bad experience. read more

The price of admission was worth the effort, I must say. Germaine's is located on Bakers point and I guess when Germaine bought the location 1. It was a cheap price for the land or 2. It was in their family for generations before all of the petro chemical facilities moved in. At the end of the show I had a sore throat, not from screaming but from the smell. This was so disappointing. We arrived at 5:30 as it says. Right when we walked in we received a prepackaged first course of a salad and fruit. We waited 2.5 hours before being served dinner. My son cried of being hungry for over an hour as we expected to eat when we arrived. During the wait, there was no entertainment. We were the last to get our food and had 5 minutes after being served to get seconds before the food closed. At 8:30 the entertainment still did not start and my kids wanted to leave. I have never been so annoyed by someones voice, because she carried on for what felt felt like an eternity before and during the show. First time in Hawaii and Germaine's Luau was definitely a nice experience our guide Kii she was very friendly made the atmosphere on the bus feel very welcoming. The show was nice to watch loved the fire part! Many of the guests got to participate including kids. The food was good just wish they had more fountain drink options. The view were this took place was really nice the ocean was beautiful. I do recommend getting either the hibiscus or plumeria package since the basic one get filled so fast and the palm trees do get in the way. Other than that I would really recommend this for anyone who wants to see a nice and well organized Luau it's perfect for all ages! read more

All of the luau's were booked up so our concierge found this place for us. We paid for the upgrade (unbeknownst to us at the time of purchase) so $368 for two people. Another couple we met on the island also recommended this place. We caught the bus at 4:20 only to arrive at the venue by 5:30. The area is industrial and blocks away from the venue I witnessed homeless, broke down cars, etc. We sat on the bus another 50 minutes waiting to get off, get screened and handed our tickets etc. They only had two people checking in all patrons on the bus so check in was taking extremely long. Over two hours had passed by the time we got in there. We were sat down with pretty good seats and that's when we realized we purchased upgrades. The seating location, server for drinks, the necklace, and first chance at buffet was the benefit of the upgrade. They served us a salad and fruit in a to-go plastic container. It was over another hour before the dinner buffet started. They had a pretty basic selection, pork, fish, and chicken plus rice, roll and mac/potato salad. By the time the show started over 4 hours had passed from when we caught the bus and we were tired. We left the show early and opted for Uber instead. read more

The bugs made themselves at home, and they seemed to know when the food was on the table, we were swatting bugs as much as we were eating. Our biggest disappointment was when we were ready to leave, we stopped to purchase the picture that they offered; only to find out that the SD card had a defect so we couldn't get the picture. We enjoyed the show itself. We got the premium package which was about $50 extra per person. We spent about $300 for two of us. The premium package includes an upgrade lei and free photos. At the end when I went to pick up my photo the lady realized the gave me the incorrect lei and had my photos in the area where you had to pay $20 for them. One of the employees was very nice and asked the other employee to get my photo for me and give me the upgraded lei. Two of the other employees were treating me like I was being dishonest, asking to verify my info... when they are the ones that messed up. I had the premium wrist band on, the card with my name to redeem the photo as well as the envelope with the sticker I let showing that we purchased premium tickets. The last luau we had cousin Donna chaperone us from Waikiki to the location of the luau on the western portion of the island; she was a big hit and set the tone for a fun and memorable Christmas Eve luau. This family-friendly luau is filled with great music, dance and food. It is an interactive experience as they offer several opportunities for guests to join dancers and performers on the stage. It is humorous seeing the negative reviews about the authenticity of the luau or the food. This is a commercial-scale lulu with thousands of guests passing through every year, but still enjoyable to the vast majority of patrons. read more

The location of the luau is next to a run down beach access that had drug deals and homeless living out of the bathrooms and using hoses hooked up to the sinks to bathe themselves. However Germaine's has done a great job of "hiding" their not desirable location with lots of palm trees. The food was not great.. not even good. The fish was cold and rubbery. My husband liked the chicken but the pork had no flavor. Very very bland. The drinks were watered down as we had abut 6 drinks each and had no buzz what so ever. HOWEVER. With all that bad, the entertainment and staff went above and beyond. Very sweet, personable, everyone came around and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Our "escort" cousin Kale was so annoying, everything that came out of his mouth was a cliche and it just felt like he was trying to hard to convince us that we were going to party hard - think used car salesman. The female dancers were beautiful and the men had some awesome tattoos but the songs they had to dance to made me cringe - felt so bad for them! Went to Germaine's Luau on my last night in Hawaii. Cousin Matt, our luau guide, was soooo funny. He talked a bit fast but was so witty. The food was ok. I'm a vegetarian, so the roasting of the pig wasn't fun for me. If you're a vegetarian the dinner sucks. However, if you're a meat eater you'll love the dinner. The washroom's were so clean! I was happy about that! The hula dancers were amazing! If you're a girl you'll drool over the hot male dancers. They shake their bum, are shirtless and one of them was sooo funny. Me and the family went out to see this luau during our trip to Hawaii! Theres plenty of parking, its very family friendly and interactive for everyone!! The hosts are very nice and helpful, the employees are very respectful, the event is organized and feels authentic. As a Hawaiian from the mainland we have never attended any authentic luaus on the Islands, but decided we would check one out this trip. We arrived late and the manager Sheila was very accommodating and helpful. The wait staff are very sweet and they work very hard to make this a great experience for all their guests. The food was typical and plentiful, the entertainment was usual and expected. The performance was great and we enjoyed ourselves. My daughter danced with the audience participation portion (shes a Polynesian dancer) and the manager even spoke with us about our overall experience and mentioned to my daughter if she was ever on the island and needed a job, she could perform as a dancer at Germaine's. This is the most fun I've had in quite a while! The scene was remarkable and the talent of every individual on stage and off was amazing. Don't even get me started on the food, because even that could have easily blown your mind! There was nothing to make everyone more comfortable than to have the best food and music along with sand between your toes! The show, dance, and voices are vital parts that I will remember for years. The bus drivers got on stage to "Strut their stuff", and Germaine's even brought in the crowd to feel like they were apart of the event by letting them dance on stage for a great once in a lifetime experience especially for those who can only visit Hawaii!
