Excellent alternative to the big box hardware stores that have seemed to taken over most of America's hardware scene. They have all the normal items you might need, ya know... flowers, soil, shovels, bolts, pipes, hand tools, power tools, strings, whips, chains, leather, ya know... hard wares... They also have some niche items for sale that satisfy me beyond what should be normal in a hardware store. Full lines of Lodge Cast Iron, Big Green Egg supplies that rival anyone around. As a matter of fact, their bbq area in general is really well stocked. Bunch of cool windmills, chimes, outdoor furniture, and even outdoor kitchen equipment. I can't say there are tons of deals just laying around, and you should practice caution and make sure you aren't getting totally taken on price here. One big difference that makes it worth the price is the level of help you can get here. Truly knowledgeable folks in each department make it a joy to shop here. Some things are just worth it. Just needed a car key copied for an old 1974 Ford. Blanks are hard to find so I brought mine. Happy to pay for the service. They won't copy keys on blanks they didn't provide? Why? They might mess them up?? They are blanks, you can't mess them up!! Silly policy with zero ability to deviate. There is no liability issue, no nothing just a big lack of effort? A-1 Key and Lock on Poplar made the keys in short order with no BS. Germantown Hardware might as well be just another big box store. Worthless. read more

This is a new review since they have opened their expanded location. They took over the space that Memphis Pool and Germantown Car Wash were in. (Shame as I liked the car wash.) I went looking for three things. 1. A very specific type of extension cord. I was actually not expecting to find what I wanted and I was going to make it. But, lo and behold, they had exactly the right type. 2. A quart of exterior white paint. Well I couldn't find it. Part of the problem was that they did not have the lighting working yet in that area. So I asked. The only stuff they had was $30+ for a quart. So that was a no thank you, going to Lowes. (Less than $20 there.) 3. One inch chlorine tabs. That's a tough one these days, chlorine is in short supply. Anyway, they didn't. So, one out of three. read more

I am reviewing the new, expanded store. People are very nice and easily accessible if you need help. Lots of good items and well stocked. Dog friendly which is great and they seem to really enjoy seeing the dogs there. Not really hardware-related, but I love the wall of interesting bottles of soda they have near the checkout. Brands and flavors that I've never heard of before, let alone seen. Fun little addition to the experience. We love having an option other than the big box stores. Shop local! read more

Last year I bought several pieces of lawn equipment here, including a brand new Honda mower. The manager is the one who helped me pick which one and I left a happy customer. Happy to support my local businesses as opposed to a big box retailer. However, as soon as I got home, I realized there was a problem with the mower. It wouldn't start, no matter what. I called the shop and they told me to bring it back in. After inspection, they found out that it had a faulty carburetor. The manager, the same one who had sold me the mower an hour earlier, told me that I'd have to fill out a warranty claim and wait to see what happens. I told him I wanted to return the mower, since it was clearly a lemon and had problems at the time it was sold, and he said they couldn't do it. In addition to being very unaccommodating, he was flat out rude. After extensive haggling, they ended up swapping the carburetor out and sent me on my way. The mower worked throughout the summer but again wouldn't start this spring. I brought it in to the repair shop in the back of the store and they told me that there was something wrong with the carburetor! I told them about the problems that I had with the sale and they guessed that my salesman was the manager. About $150 dollars later and I get my mower back. Hopefully it works for more than a season this time. I want to support small businesses as much as I can. I'm in need of another piece of Stihl equipment now (which they stock). But, I am going to drive an extra 8 miles to support a different small business. read more

Big Store service in a Small Store If you had problems with your chainsaw where would you go? Lowe's? Home Depot? Yeah, me too. Well, I recently did have problems with my chainsaw, but I decided to go to Germantown Hardware. Tell you what, I'm glad I did. I had recently gotten my very first chainsaw. After about an hour of using it, the chain came off. Not knowing how to fix it myself, I chose to go to Germantown Hardware. When I walked in, I asked for help and was taken care of promptly. They were able to basically reassemble the chainsaw, and it was working when I left. Now, this was not a quick task, they took about 30 minutes or so to address all of the issues. Next time I need help, I will not hesitate to go back. They have great customer service, and I even learned how to troubleshoot my chainsaw by watching them. If you are having problems with your equipment, consider going to Germantown Hardware. They're good folk. read more

The five stars is for Gtown Hardware having people who know grills and small engines. They had a Weber part in stock that the other big box hardware stores didn't carry or would have to order special. Went back for an edger belt I could find nowhere else. They sized the belt with the tool you use for that sort of thing, and hooked me up with the right one. The bigger stores are closer, quicker, and more convenient. But Germantown Hardware handles the more demanding hardware searches. read more

Often overlooked on the corner of an old brown strip mall, near the Germantown Car Wash, Germantown Hardware is a blast from the past. From the moment you walk in the door and see the two checkout lanes and popcorn machine, you know these folks have your back. Ask one of the older gentlemen for help. They cut for you! They will direct you to the product you seek. The store carries basic hardware, and a little bit of everything, including some seasonal plants (i.e. mums, pansies), and even grills and coolers. If they don't have something, they will order it for you, or tell you where to get it. Next time you're in Germantown, go peek your head in! read more

Came here to the small engine repair to get some parts for our mower as it got damaged during our relocation. The two guys in the shop were pretty friendly and asked if we needed labor for our repairs we declined since my hubby is mechanically inclined. I appreciated the offer with quote however in case we changed our minds. Some Honda parts were in stock the rest were special ordered which only took 1 week to get. I read the other reviews of how rude the staff can be but thankfully I didn't run into. Will return. read more

There's nothing like the smaller "Ma, Pa" type of place where quick, friendly and knowledgable customer service is always available. I purchased a Stihl chainsaw and had many questions since there are so many different models. Service was spot on; questions were answered and I was in and out with my new power tool in no time at all. Ended up returning that saw for a bigger one and had no problem with the exchange at all...he even threw in several safety glasses for free without me even asking. As for the store itself, not as big as your Lowes but still a pretty big place with all your hardware needs and then some. read more

Germantown Hardware doesn't even deserve the one star I am leaving. One of the most horrendous experiences I have ever faced in my life. As seems consistent with the other reviews, I am disgusted by the behavior of employees and worst of all, Michael the manager. I went into the store and purchased ferns. After returning home, I realized they sold me the wrong breed of fern. I called to store to express my concern and a kind employee offered an exchange of the item for the correct one: I could come into the store and they would take care of it. After driving to the store with all the ferns to complete the exchange that I was promised, the manager Michael steps in via phone and refused to replace the item with the correct one and told me to leave. Next, another employee decides to involves themselves and throws the receipt at me. There is absolutely no semblance of professionalism or order in the store. I was utterly shocked at this display of rudeness. What the manager, Micheal, lacks in customer service skills, he makes up for in offensively impolite behavior. I will never return this establishment where I was humiliated and treated so poorly, and you shouldn't either. Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart, and any other respectable establishment would never act in this manner. They treat you with kindness and respect and display common customer service. From reading other reviews, it seems like Michael displays this abhorrent behavior to all customers. It's too bad he is driving the community away from a local Germantown establishment. read more

This is NOT an "Ace Hardware is the place with the helpful hardware man". My paint has been the wrong color twice and the incorrect gloss once. They will not accept any responsibility or apology when they are flat out wrong. All he does is blandly smile and say, "sorry you're unhappy" Not..."Let us solve this problem". I'm new to town and just spent hundreds of dollars at Germantown Hardware on painting an entire house with Benjamin Moore Paint. I was upset about the wrong paint color, yet again and was all but accused of not buying the original paint there. I was questioned as to where the painters may have purchased the paint. I bought it at that store myself. But the manager was trying to shift blame. I called him on it and he denied what he had just done. Unbelievable. You can call to verify that something is in stock, get there and no one can find it. Not only did this happen to my husband, but to another customer just this morning. He, a regular customer, called and verified what he wanted that no one could find so he went to another store. He was unhappy and was reporting this to the manager to be helpful and alert him to such a problem. All the manager said in response to the complaint is, "sorry". Why this person is in management is really puzzling. One might expect attitude from employees but certainly not from a manager. When the owner is gone, they gather around the registers and chit chat. The plants outside are basically all dead. Called 5 times to place a paint order on a sunday afternoon and complained to the person who answered the phone. She was put out and surly and told me they'd probably gone home for the day. It was 3:08. They eat their breakfast or lunch on the counters in front of customers. This morning it was broccoli on the paint counter and an uphelpful attitude from the same woman who yesterday was just plain rude when asked where the picture hangers were. She was looking on a shelf for something so I didn't think it was an imposition. Instead she snarls,' somewhere around aisle 19" Pigtails don't make you nice. I can say that I have had a few good experiences there, but it's the last place I'll spend my money. I won't support a business who doesn't have customer service oriented employees. No....they are not like Lowes or Home Depot and I don't say that as a compliment. I called the owner, Justin, but evidently he doesn't return phone calls. read more

I sent my mower last Wednesday because it runs and dies. I was told that a diagnosis would be firstly performed and they would call me and "let me decide whether I want to repair it". I called this Thursday and was told that it has been repaired and I need to pay $107 for the repair. They claimed that they called me on Monday and left message. I did find missing call from them but received neither voice message nor text message. And either way, they didn't get my permission to repair it but they repaired it and charged me $107. The worst situation didn't end. I paid them $107 yesterday and brought it home. But the problem still exists! They claim a one-month warranty but actually refused to do anything. read more

I like to give business to locally owned businesses and I am a firm believer in customer service. My wife and I would rather pay a little bit more for almost anything when we get great service. The people at Germantown Hardware & Paint provide that service. I came in looking for a specific intake grill for my A/C system as my house had some special designs by the architect preventing standard grills from fitting. I thought I would check out this place in hopes that they would have it, As it stands, they did not have what I was looking for but the gentleman that helped me led me in the right direction and I was able to custom order what I needed. I went back to get some items to paint some of the rooms in my house and patch some holes in my walls from the previous owners and I could not have been happier with the service I received. The worst experience ever! Do not take a lawnmower here ever. They will keep it for over a month and call you to tell you it's fixed, then it not be. Wait another couple of weeks, get a call it's fixed....go to pick it up, and still not fixed. Finally picked it up and they charged more than they said they would. Mower still not fixed. This is your neighborhood hardware store. They don't carry things like Home Depot or Lowes but they do have all your general needs. They carry lawn equipment, custom mixed paints, plumbing, hardware and garden products. They even have a in store repair shop which really comes in handy for your lawn equipment. The associates that work here are very knowledgeable about the items they carry and they have worked here for years. Always free popcorn and in the summer they have pizza and hot dogs. Most of the old geezers that work in there are rude and stuck-up. However, they have a great assortment of grills (Love the Kamado Joe) and coolers (nice Yeti selection). I swore I'd never return after my first trip there and some of the older guys and apparently management treated me like I was bothering them. (Even though I didn't ask for their help). But... The fact that they are the only local Kamado Joe dealer in town brought me back. Luckily one of the younger guys that worked there won back my business while selling me a nice 65 qt Yeti. read more

Needed a new lock for Poolhouse and gave them a try!! It took 3 days and the locksmith left the lock cylinder out of lock when I called back and spoke to this guy, he yelled at me and hung up on me!!! I'm glad I got my money back!!!! Lowe's fixed me up in 10 minutes at 1/2 the price!!! These guys never even said sorry!!! Stay away from this store. Never again read more
