Says they are open at 5:30 but it's 5:45 and I'm waiting outside like an idiot. Bagels are good tho.

Gerritsen beach bagels are a hidden secret of marine park/Mill Basin. Tucked away far from most public transit. Only accessible by car, bike, and a couple MTA busses. It's worth the hike. They now accept credit cards which is a huge plus.

Gerritsen Bagels are some of the best bagels in Brooklyn. I really like how the seeds are on both sides of each bagel. Adds a nice extra touch to the taste of every bite. Their bagles are a nice size, and they add a good amount of cream cheese to each. The bagels are even better toasted. My favorite is the everything bagel.

You have eaten a fresh baked bagel until you try this place out. They are the only place that palm rolls their bagels and that makes a big difference for me. Once you slide that butter on top... lord have mercy, praise the lord. You have been blessed. This placed also deliver excellent customer service with style. How? Visit this place and request for a bacon, egg, and cheese. You will notice that the cook make sure your meal is perfect. I actually walked out the place to confirm I was at the right store, because I thought I was on live set for Cooking Network. You want to confirm this place is excellent? -I am willing to travel 20 mins to eat their bagels and you now that mean a lot when gas prices are too high in NYC. -People have traveled from Ct and SI to purchase their bagels. Please realize the tools are over 10 dollars, so when a person is willing to pay tool for bread. You need to need to visit this place to find out why!

I wanted to try a rainbow bagel for ages now. However, everywhere else ran out fast, loaded with tourists, and had super long lines. They were way out of reach of course. Well farther out than I feel is necessary to trek for a bagel to be honest. Luckily, this place is not far, its easy to park, not expensive, and zero tourists. Seriously, I am grateful that gentrifiers and tourists do not swarm to these parts of Brooklyn. They Betta NOT! Anyway they had a ton of rainbow bagels and different color cream cheese that taste freakin good.

Ham egg and cheese on a rainbow bagel. Basically me, if I were a food.

You know when you go to a neighborhood and have food and consider moving there based on that alone? Yeah, this is one of those places. I got a rainbow bagel with ham, egg and cheese like a true goy. I had no idea they had rainbow bagels (or ham) so this was a real treat. The novelty of the bagel didn't take away from the quality. The bagel was the best I have had ever. Deliciously crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. They put the cheese in between the eggs. I always appreciate a high regard for perfect sandwich bite ratios. Good job! We also had an everything bagel with lox spread, tomatoes and onions. I always prefer actual lox and cream cheese to lox spread but whatever. Who cares on a bagel this perfect? For a coffee, a bagel and lox spread and an egg sandwich it was like 5 bucks. Duh. Get your butts over to Gerritsen Bagels.

Best bagels in southern Brooklyn. Looks like a hole in the wall and the line can get long on a weekend morning but well worth it.

Had an everything bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese. It was just ok. Way too much bread as the bagel was super thick.

Top notch! Delicious and affordable. They do not deliver, but if you're in the neighbourhood the bagels are always made fresh.

Burgers -10/10 delicious and perfectly cooked Pink risotto - 10/10 surprised at how well raspberry risotto goes with scallops. Beautiful and delicious Octopus salad - 9/10 tasty with nice potatoes and beautiful dressing in the salad. Wish there was tiny bit more octopus. Desserts were excellent as well - the mousse cake was light and tasty (black currant filling) with a cool motorcycle chocolate. Tiramisu delicious Everyone had fun taking pictures on the Harley. I liked the lighting as well as the live music. However the live music was so loud that I couldn't have a conversation across the long table that we had. The food was quite mediocre. The presentation of the dishes was amazing. Each dish was beautifully presented, from the house bread we had to the entree, the salmon risotto that we had. Especially, with the lighting, photos come out amazing. However, once I had a bite of the food, it was disappointing as the taste did not match the looks. The tartare was bland. The mushroom soup was creamy but bland. The salmon risotto was bland as well. I grew tired looking at the beautiful dishes then being disappointed by the food. The menu items were innovative but needs to be tasted.

The service is impeccable, the wait staff is well versed in the menu and will offer help if you don't know how to truly get the best sandwich that you can. The star here is the roast beef sandwich, it's moist and flavorful and cooked absolutely perfectly. My suggestion is to order it with cheese and have it dunked in the au jus. I prefer what they call a "knife and fork job" where the sandwich, the meat the bread is all dunked and comes out in a river of au jus. They make amazing sides, I typically go for the onion rings and corn fritters which are tasty, fried nugget of sweet corn and they are delicious. Do note, they only take cash and sometimes it takes a while to get your food but in the end it is so very worth it.

Curious about the "famous" Brooklyn roast beef war -- yeah! it's a thing! -- T and I decided to see for ourselves. (Once I try the competition I'll weigh in with my vote.) With a reputation built on beef we ignored other options and researched how to order. You can get double dip, "dingle-dangle" (don't ask), cheese/no cheese ... it was confusing. We both went with rare roast beef, cheese and onions. T asked for his double-dipped in gravy. Yum! Short of five stars, but yum nonetheless. We ordered two unhealthy sides which added to the decadence of our lunch: corn fritters and onion rings. If you only get one, go with the fritters. The place is busy. You'll likely have to wait a bit -- but I found it interesting to watch the guys at the counter work. Service was friendly and attentive. Unlike someone's comment about paying blind -- not so. We were given a check with an accurate breakdown of what we ordered. Prices are posted. And yes -- cash only.

Seating is right behind the counters and they had tables and old school booths for the tables. Great spot and I can see why they've been around for so long.

Both restaurants have been in business for well over half a century with well-deserved accolades. Despite having grown up in Brooklyn, I hadn't been to either before this year. I read reviews and actually asked ChatGPT what to order at R-N-R. We went with its suggestion: medium roast beef with cheese, onion rings, root beer and lemonade. My sandwich was more well-done than requested. They don't offer 'rare'. The few bites with red meat were infinitely better than the rest of the sandwich. The roll, as everyone points out, is baked in house. Though light and puffy, it didn't outweigh overdone beef. Onion rings were great, root beer average, and lemonade -- per my husband who loves lemonade -- excellent. While I wouldn't balk about returning, my vote goes to Brennan and Carr, though truly, when cooked as requested there is no substantial difference. If you take the train, get off at Sheepshead Bay Road and head south. Turn left at Emmons Avenue and keep walking. Twenty minutes all told.
