My fiancée treated me to one of the best NY-style delis around! The owner was very gracious, and made us feel welcome from the get go; it was like we were part of the family. When he learned that we were there to order sandwiches to celebrate my birthday (I looooove deli sandwiches), he gave each of us a generous serving of freshly made chicken cutlet to celebrate! Let me just say this: I can see why Jimmy's is famous, and has been around for such a long time! The food was incredible! Everyone that came in, were treated like family; he knew everyone! This sandwich shop is hands down THE best in southern Brooklyn! I just keep coming back for their chicken cutlet hero (chef's kiss). Placed an order for cookies/chips to be added, only to find out that they were unavailable at the moment...got a call back from Frank (nicest guy ever), who offered cannoli & coleslaw instead. Not the best, but certainly not the worst hero out there. When it comes to top heroes, this one feels like it should ride the pine a little bit longer before getting pressed into service. Inside this tiny shop I observed who looked like the owner and two high school aged girls working the line, prepping the subs in a way that would make Henry Ford, Ray Kroc, and Upton Sinclair turn their heads. They move fast and automatic. Hero ordered, hero assembled, hero put into plastic bag and handed over to the customer. The next hero gets exactly the same treatment. When it comes to ordering, there are no menus to hand out; only a small overhead menu written in scribble tells you what you can order. Stick to what you know, do not go outside the box a la Subway. As for the food, it is pretty par. The hero comes with plenty of fresh meat and toppings, and your choice of roll/bread. I got turkey on a hero roll, and I got it with oregano, provolone cheese, lettuce and tomato and some red wine and vinegar. It is not a bad tasting hero, but I found the turkey to be a little bit dry and the cheese a bit too sharp, making it a little unpleasant to eat, but the hero roll is the bread to order as you get more for your money. It is a cash only business. There is an ATM inside in case you miss this point. I also noticed the owner has a bit of an old New York edge to him. If you are not used to it, you might find that he comes across as rude, but he is not. He wants you to get the best tasting sub for the best possible price without having to wait 45 minutes for it. Jimmy's does not have the reputation that Lioni or Defonte's have, and rightfully so. Those are some of the Goliaths in the hero community and this little hero joint has ways to go towards catching up to them. read more

Growing up in Sheepshead Bay, us as kids/teens swore it was the greatest. As I got older and realized it was Boar's Head meat, I started asking questions. No doubt it is very good and reasonably priced but better than the bodegas only because it's not a bodega and the bread is better. He also has the turnover keeping the stock fresh. One buddy swears it's the spices they use - meh. All said, my chicken cutlet with Mozz was very good. Best to see for yourself, you won't go wrong, you just might not be blown away. Whenever I go to Brooklyn, the one stop we have to make is Jimmy's. When going to Jimmy's a little part of my childhood returns when I went to Manhattan Beach and waited on a long line to get a sandwich. Jimmy's is an institution along with Spumoni Gardens. It just says Brooklyn! You can get every combination and type of sandwich you want. On the sandwich you can get lettuce, tomatoes and onions, mustard mayo. To get the whole experience you have to ask for the works which consists of oil, vinegar, And a variety of spices. Hate to do this seeing how old and established it is but... something off. Super cool donate on the outside and old school vibe was very cool but let me get to the point. I called to order a catering hero for 4th of July and luckily they were one of the few who could accommodate. I was excited as I know the bread to make a catering hero takes a day or two so you usually have to call in advance. . Long story short I arrived and they gave me 6 smaller hero's cut up small pieces and put into a platter. Not even close to what a real catering hero is. I was charged $200 for the platter and the hero was was "Ok" according to the guests Not great at all. I called the place and spoke to the owner and he said the catering hero was outlawed because the cellophane leaked into the meat??? Hmmm I guess maybe his was was but not true for all the other deli's in NYC. So I basically payed $33 a hero that cost normally $10-$12 at the store but they cut into pieces for the extra and charges all the extra $$$ I explained the logic to the man And he said "the bread was longer" I also asked why the price i paid was $200 and it only said $95 on website? He said the website hasn't been updated in 10 hrs so I shouldn't expect that. Very bizarre. The only positive thing he offered is that he did say he would give me some extra hero's after because I assume he knew he robed me but I didn't trust it. The place was a tad bit filthy especially by the counter ( old food on walls) and I didn't want like it in the fist place. I feed the food to my guests but didn't eat it myself seeing where it came from. I know shame on me not nice!! I really hate writing bad reviews but this was unusual. If I said anything inaccurate, I would love if someone reached out and could explain the other side. Either way gotta pass on this joint. Go to sal kris Charlie's (no1.) or Andy's delicatessen in middle village if you want a real by hero. Hope these ppl improve because it's an old school place and really adds to the NY character. Walk in and the spot doesn't look like much of anything, but talk to the two at the front and you already know it's going to be the best damn sandwich you ever tasted. The man told me that he's a reverse cardiothoracic surgeon and man I believed him. He makes his product effortlessly yet passionately. 35 years ago I had a hero from Jimmy's and I remember it was noting special. The macaroni salad I ordered was clearly just like the stuff my mom would buy at Key Food. Today, I was going to visit a friend who just loves Jimmy's and I told her I would stop at Jimmy's and bring us each a hero. So I walked in. Told the guy at the register who was also responding to internet orders that I had not been in the place in 35 years and that started him on a non stop rant of how they have survived all these years and still going strong. I had a cup of coffee in my hand and he asked if I still had coffee in the cup - I thought he was about to offer me a fresh cup of coffee, but NO, he was starting to tell me that they now have cannoli's something they did not have way back then, then, when I was a one time customer. Two kids were behind the counter making sandwiches and he dolled out what they were to make. He handed me the cannoli. I took a bite, had some more of my coffee stood by the counter, rolled my eyes a few time and wondered when someone, any one, was gong to take my order. I purposefully walked the length of the glass showcase where the meats and such were kept and no on even looked at me. what I did notice, is that in the cooler amongst many things was a turkey breast from the company Carolina's. People were coming in and picking up orders. Uber was there picking up orders too. The two kids continued to make sandwiches as the older guy called the orders out to them, and no one asked me what I wanted. So, I just turned around and left. As I was leaving, I saw the pre made cannoli tubes sitting in a box and cans of cannoli filling - wtf was he boasting about making cannoli - the stuff comes from a can. And about Carolina's Turkey Breast - Carolina's is one of the cheapest brands of turkey breast out there. It has an enormously high water content and is high in sodium. It is garbage And that is what you are paying for when you order a Turkey hero at Jimmy's Famous Hero's. read more

The last time I came here the chicken cutlet was thick, soggy, and just not cooked properly. Today I decided to give it another chance. I specifically asked for thin crispy cutlets. I got one half that was good the other half was just not edible!! It was super thick on one end, crispy only on the end, breading is coming off because it's soggy, and just tasted awful and cost $15! This sandwich heaven should really be right up there with some of the best sandwich spots in Brooklyn! Like many over the years, I probably ignored this little gem of a hero shop on Sheepshead Bay Road in favor of the plethora of sushi and Mediterranean restaurants in the neighborhood. Well, shame on me. The glitz and flash of those restaurants grabbed all of the attention, while Jimmy's just kept plugging along quietly by the bay making awesome sandwiches for years. Just in the past few months, I had the "honor" (yes, I said honor because their subs are that damn good) of trying their Hot Italian and Roast Beef (with the works) subs and they were some of the best hero subs I had in a very very long time. I'm quite ashamed of the many Subway Spicy Italian subs I had devoured over the years prior to discovering Jimmy's because, quite frankly, those are NOT real legit Italian subs compared to the ones Jimmy's makes. Anyhow, don't let the lack of foot traffic and customers in and out fool you because the subs here were so tasty and professionally assembled. You would think some sandwich pros on Food Network's Sandwich Kings put these bad boys together. The meats were fresh and thinly sliced. There was a good amount of lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. And that vinegar .. mmm .. mmmmmmm. They douse the hero with plenty of that, which is great for you vinegar lovers ... like me! The breads were fresh too and cut a good size. Simply put, the sandwiches were constructed to perfection. I read in some of the reviews that some customers felt the subs were huge and, they were a decent size measuring about 10 inches in length. The thickness of the bread and subs were probably what really filled me up though. For $9-$10, the subs were sooooo worth it and I will definitely be coming back for another sub in the near future! FYI: The kids working the counter looked a bit young, but all of them were very friendly, well-trained and professional with their sub assembly and customer service. read more

I was on my way to work and needed to shove something in my face, Google mapped "sandwich" on my way and this was the 1st non subway place I found. Walking in, it looked like a du.p. cluttered desk on one side, random wall on the left, unassuming deli counter in front of me. Maybe its a hidden gem with no frills, I'll try it. The guy behind the counter seemed annoyed that I wasn't picking up a pre-ordered item. Got my sandwich fairly quickly. Nice kid working the register. Walked out, headed to work. The sandwich was a bit messy, but the chi Ken was super thin and way overcooked, hard to eat, harder to swallow. The bacon was about the same. Not impressed and wil not make that mistake again.
