First visit to Gertens. Wow! What a place. If you need something for gardening and you can't find it here, it doesn't exist. You are first greeted with parking. Don't let it intimidate you. People are coming and going frequently and I saw spots opening all the time. If you know exactly what you want, ask one of the employees. They are all over the place and knowledgeable about the stock. If you want to browse, grab a cart and enjoy all the beautiful colors and shapes of the plants. The variety is great. Went here for an advertised event I seen on social media called Gertens after dark. They basically stay open a bit later, they had music playing, food trucks and you could get a drink or mocktail while you shop special deals. I had never been here but knew it was mostly a gardening store. They had so much!! I do like that they sell starter veggies and herbs, they even had catnip. They did have some premade hanger plants for on sale which looked great. Looks like they are running this event a few times this month so definitely worth checking out. You can preorder a drink for $7 and you get a cute reusable cup with a lid. The staff were nice & helpful.They have plenty of parking. read more

The staff at Gertens were probably the most helpful people I've ever run into at a nursery. From the moment we arrived people knew where things were located, helped us with our cart, offered to get us another cart, walked us to where the plastic was next to the vending machines and loaded our car. This is my favorite nursery, and I shop here every year for mulch, soil, perennials, vegetables, herbs, and annuals. Today, I shopped for perennials, and got here when they opened at 7am to try and beat the crowd. They have an amazing selection and the staff are very helpful. This time of year, they even have staff to help load your vehicle with heavy bags of soil etc. There is a large parking lot. There are two main issues I have. I can't make sense of how it's organized and I felt like there should have been more perenials. I absolutely love Gertens! They have high quality plants for every season. I've mostly visited Gertens in the spring time for spring plants and gardening. Every plant I have purchased from them is hearty and lives for a lot longer than other plants I've purchased elsewhere. This visit I attended their free poinsettia greenhouse tour. This tour provides a behind the scenes look at their growing process. After the tour I shopped in their storeroom that is beautifully decorated for the holidays. There is a big parking lot on-site but be warned, it fills up quickly especially on the weekends. The on-site staff is outstanding as you will always find a helper nearby for any questions or clarifications. Stretch carts are offered for larger hauls making it a seamless process especially when purchasing trees. There's an interior gift shop that sells your Patina type goodies such as t-shirts, soaps, hand towels, etc. along with a great grill section that has various rubs, traegers, aprons, and BBQ tool sets. I could go on and on about the plants, mulch, hanging baskets, etc. but you'll have to witness the beauty for yourself. We got lucky and had North Star Donuts food truck serving donuts and cold brew which are the perfect combo for shopping in April. Happy gardening, BBQ'ing or gift shop buying! I live in the NW burbs, pretty much the opposite side of the Twin Cities. I made the trip across town to specifically look for giant outdoor planter pots for both sides of my driveway gate. I was looking for 2 big & bold & colorful statement pieces, possibly commercial sized planters. I'm nearly at a loss for words about the size and scope of Gertens. So, so, impressive! They have many acres of EVERYTHING. I've been to many nurseries over the years and I'll be so bold as to call Gertens THE premier nursery in Minnesota. And it seems to be run with military precision. Despite the physical size, the multiple buildings, and the crowds of people, I found parking to be very convenient. They also have tons of employees and I was asked several times if I needed help as I wondered around like a lost puppy. The customer service is great. I even found an outdoor desk with a couple of Master Gardeners on hand to answer questions. This is an amazing place! I found my giant pots. Gerten is kind of like going to the Como Conservatory but you get to bring things home. The selection of things are nice, and what I do like is that some of the tomato and pepper plants are already getting big and will start bearing fruit before anything else you have planted. We did a full landscaping project around our house, and it was nice to find out they have free delivery with a minimum order. The landscapers put rock down a little too tightly around some of the plants, and they didn't grow back the following spring, but Gerten's was great about letting us pick out new ones. This place is an absolute gem for the Twin Cities! The store looks different every time I go depending on what season it is, and I always leave with a full cart of beautiful plants and gifts. When I re-did my landscaping last Summer, I asked the landscapers to get all the plants from Gertens and they simply emailed me back with a "We only use Gertens already!" I moved to the west metro but still make the drive to Gertens at least twice a year since no one has a bigger selection of perennials. read more

Gertens is my go-to garden center in Dakota County. I have been a customer for over 6 years and have always had good luck with their plants and products. I have bought everything from citrus trees, palm trees, tropicals, berry bushes, vegetables, herbs, perennials, and annuals and have been satisfied with all of their plants. They have a huge selection and variety so there is always something to catch your eye. You won't find as many rare or unique plants like at Highland Nursery but from time to time you might be surprised (especially in their tropicals selection - Avocado Trees!). And with their awesome plant policy, if you unintentionally kill your plant, you can get a refund, no questions asked. You don't have to bring in the dead plant, labels, soil sample, nothing. Seriously, their customer service is top notch. Make sure to join their rewards program to take advantage of the return policy. They also have a great selection of gifts and outdoor furniture (a little on the pricey side for my tastes). The gift areas are especially fun to look through during the Halloween and Christmas holidays. They also have a large selection of Dept. 56 Holiday Villages for sale during the holidays which is awesome because it can be hard to find a physical retailer who does. A little hint for you to try - their Christmas decoration backdrops easily make wonderful Christmas cards! Besides plants and gifts they also have a large selection of bird feeding supplies, gardening supplies, fairy garden items, BBQ grilling supplies, and even fresh produce from spring through fall. To whom it may concern, I live in Minnetonka and typically drive all the way to Gertens just to get my firewood, I have been doing this for many years now. I drive there for the great quality, clean fire wood gertens always has. Unfortunately I purchased a truck load of the fire wood this last Saturday and when I got home to unload it it was filthy wood, giant amounts of dirt mixed in. Also, seemed as if it may have gotten wetat some point along with a really bad blend.. hardly no birch.. I typically never have issues but this time it was very disappointing and a waste of time money, effort and gas. I also wrote in a "contact us" request to gertens on Sunday and never got a response. If you are at all interested in plants and gardening, odds are you know about Gertens-one of the largest green houses and garden centers in the twin cities area. Every time I go it seems they are even bigger than before with everything you need to beautify your home from flowers and plants to statuary, vegetables, landscaping materials and even grills. We've been getting stuff from them for years and have to say their selection is absolutely huge. They have lots of helpful staff to direct you around there massive outdoor lot and numerous green houses. If you want the big stuff, boulders etc you drive just a little down the road to the huge landscaping supply area where you weight your vehicle on the way in and again on the way out to determine how many pounds of stepping stones (or whatever) you chose for that weekend project. Gertens can get pretty busy once the planting season gets in full swing and the crowds on Mother's Day weekend can remind you of the state fair. Price wise expect to pay a bit more than the Home Depots and Menards but you can expect really high quality and a wide selection. For example, today I was tempted by a few of the nice size heirloom tomato plants which included "mortgage lifter, brandywine and black krim. "It won't be hard to pull up those old plants and put down new weed barrier and mulch" "I've never done a retaining wall but how hard can it be?" "I'll just clear that landscaping rock at home and put in a flower bed" Then reality sets in and you realize landscaping companies exist for a reason. The selection and pricing at Gertens is worth the drive from just about anywhere in the metro. If you can't find what you're looking for here then it probably doesn't exist. I've bought a variety of flowers, shrubs, trees and mulch and never had any issues. A little secret...The Gertens yard is the best place to dispose of yard waste in the cities. Concrete, Sand, Soil, Branches, Mulch, Rock and anything else "natural" from your property can be disposed of...For Cheap! Compared to City transfer stations, recycling quarries or contractors it is about a 1/4 of the price. A regular pickup truck is $15 for anything you can fit. Even if you're not shopping, get out there and walk around. It won't take long before you feel inspired to start a new project or do some landscaping! read more
