Two projects were done. One was to fix the leaks in our 100 year old casement windows. They were very professional, covered the floors, fixed the windows and vacuumed when done. Second was to evaluate the switch for heating the bathroom floor. I can't even give this company one star. I filled out their contract form and received an email response that they would be in touch soon. A week and a half later I reached out to see when we could meet to go over the work I needed. Received a call from Darryl the next day. He apologized profusely; they were experiencing "technical problems." We scheduled a day and time for him to come out. Never showed up. No call, no follow up. More technical issues? Doesn't matter. Had an issue that required follow up at no fault of their own, and Darryl was in constant communication to resolve the issue and would not charge me for the follow up work. Besides the paint job being poorly managed, poorly done and overpriced, there were many problems. Many jobs were left half done until I had to remind them several times. I was charged for several jobs that were never done at all. Phone calls were not returned for weeks and months! Carson seemed like a good guy but he was overwhelmed. To top it all off I had given them a deposit of $8000 for two chargers to be installed in September(excavation was to be involved). After going through all the trouble with the smaller jobs I decided to not go forward with the chargers. I was lied to earlier that the permit had been ordered in the fall. I received an email from the village stating that the permit had been requested only in January (around the time I asked for my money back) but it was missing a lot of the needed paperwork. I told Dale it seemed like I should be given my full $8000 back since they had not done a thing and I had gone through a lot of trouble with them already. He admitted that I had gone through a rough time with them since one of the project managers was quitting in them and I was left without a project manager. Dale still thought I should pay dwell 20% of the charger contract. I told him that didn't seem right at all especially since they hadn't even completed the permit order. He sent me $3,400 only. I believe they have cheated me out of over $4000 at least and wasted a lot of my time and energy. Their prices are outrageous. The work is shoddy and their ethics even worse. read more

I have used Get Dwell several times over the past year. Each time I contacted them for possible work, it took many phone calls, one time over several weeks to get them to respond. Once they arrive onsite, they do great work. It's contacting them and getting them to respond where the problem lies. I just recently contacted them again for a small project. The work was scheduled and a contractor assigned. When the time came for the contractor to be at my home, he was a no show. I contacted Get Dwell relaying the issue, which they told me they have been unable to reach that specific contractor assigned to this job. They told me they would assign another contractor, that was two days ago and I have not heard from anyone since. I felt the need to update this review. I commend a company recognizes its shortcomings and admits there's room for improvement. The contractor did show up at the scheduled time the second time. Mario came prepared to do the work and did a very nice job. He was very courteous and didn't waste any time getting to work. I bought a beautiful, but apparently poorly structured, set of two couches from a terrible department store - we'll call it Schmacy's - less than two years ago. About 5 months ago, a beam in the seat snapped. We'd paid extra for the extended warranty (yes, I'm that moron) and dealt with the seller's warranty department for MONTHS trying have them either fix the couch or bring us a new one. Finally, a few weeks ago, they informed us that since they no longer carry this model, we'd have to come in to the store to pick a different, mismatched couch to replace the broken one. No thank you! I managed to negotiate a meager "cash settlement" in exchange for voiding the extended warranty (less than what I paid for it in the first place... never dealing with Schmacy's again if I can avoid it). So I took my money and called Get Dwell. Upon arriving, Gio let me know right away that furniture repair isn't his main specialty, and that the couch repair was going to be a bit more involved than what he was originally expecting. He gave us a revised quote, and we accepted. He took out the broken piece, took it back to his shop to recreate, and returned a week later. Fixing the couch took just about an hour, and he stayed well within the revised estimate. Not only am I happy with the work, I really enjoyed meeting and chatting with Gio. Called to get a quote for a kitchen Backsplash. We had our previous home's Backsplash done in a day and a half for about $500 ( labor only) and it was beautiful. We are new to Northbrook so we picked up a flyer for this company at a local hardware store. They came out and quoted 4-5 DAYS to install it and $2100-$2800 LABOR. This was 40 square feet of Backsplash folks. I nearly laughed out loud. Needless to say called another yelp recommended person and had it installed for $550 in a day and a half. Used Darryl Rose for some carpentry work. Agreed to terms, payment schedule (50/50), and project began. Issue arose when Darryl's carpenter (Andre) submitted request for too high of payment after day 1 of 2 day job (he asked $800 when should have been more around $400), he didn't clean his worksite up, I had to, and he needed me to store his tools at my house (meaning I had to assume liability for them). I should have noticed an issue was brewing when the carpenter doesn't own tools and needs to borrow a car to show up for a job. Regardless, when I explained to Andre that his hours did not match what he worked, Andre, quickly agreed, said I could just pay full following day. I asked him if he was sure. He said yes. I said I'd call Darryl which pleased Andre greatly (he didn't want to call Darryl). I left Darryl a message minutes after Andre left to let him know what occurred and asked if this was fine (time stamped on my phone). If not, I'd make immediate payment (I did another project months earlier with Darryl and paid immediately without issue, I always, always pay my debts). Almost 5 hours later he returned my call (I wasn't home to answer). The next morning we connected and I calmly explained what occurred. Things quickly escalated. Without any rational thought Darryl implied I was trying to stiff him. He threatened to not show up to finish the job (although he could not, did not, dispute my concerns). Totally unprofessional. I was really surprised at how belligerent Darryl became. Honestly, it wasn't a big issue at first. He just went off with no warning. Pay what he says, regardless, or they don't show up to finish their job. Although his employee misled him, the customer, who pays the bill, was the "liar." I agreed to just pay what he wanted because I didn't want unfinished wood open to the elements. What was I going to do? Day two was filled with hostility, threats, and unprofessional behavior by both Darryl and Andre. They used sub par materials (sure to rot in future). I repeatedly asked Andre if he needed help, was thirsty, etc. I tried to make the situation better for us both. Before the agreed time was up (with an option to work more if project was incomplete) Darryl showed up, had Andre pack up, asked for his money, then left with the job unfinished and poorly done. There was damage to my brickwork, debris left on site, and an absolutely horrible experience with Get Dwell (see photos). I'm shocked that Darryl would become so petty so quickly. When I explained I'd be sharing my experience with others, Darryl once again threatened me and said I was being vindictive. Yeah, getting ripped off by a bad contractor does that to people I suppose. The troubling thing to me is I really don't think Darryl comprehends his actions, understands why they were unprofessional, and why they're totally inexcusable. He seemed to think he was doing the right thing. To bully a customer with threats, extort them for money, and leave them in a bind is despicable. I'm sickened by how horrible Darryl is as a human and businessman. The local real estate company that recommended Darryl to me at least had the decency to apologize. They were horrified hearing of my experience. They insisted they'd take Get Dwell off their contractor list immediately. And, in case you read this and think I'm lying, or to use Darryl's words, being "vindictive," I posted photos of their work to share with you. Also, please read other reviews that are "filtered" that mirror my experience (especially Darryl's hourly business dealings). I'm not the only dissatisfied customer of Get Dwell (Darryl likes to float his "perfect" Yelp score, which, truthfully is not accurate). I think it's a little dubious that the positive reviews Get Dwell gets are from people with only 1 or 2 reviews. Avoid if you live in the North Shore area (especially my area). Lastly, I also want to note that I waited patiently for a couple of months for Darryl to get a quote on a different project that was causing me stress by flooding (prior to this experience). Each time I asked Darryl a status on the project I'd get a different answer why the work wasn't getting done (he kept stalling). He kept saying they were doing me a favor by getting best sub yet no work was being done. Incredible. He's either lazy or incompetent. I've since hired another local company to fix (with a much better experience). I strongly urge you to take your business elsewhere. I was excited to find a local professional handy man service. There are numerous issues I could discuss but think I will focus on the most essential. I was quoted a 10-12 hour max time period for job. After being told repeatedly we were still within time frame in the end I was told job took 16 hours but would be given a 'break' and only charged for 14 hours. I had a list of at least 12 items that needed repair in my condo, from doors that didn't latch to a clothing rod that was inconveniently located in the coat closet. Gio worked his way through the list in a professional, methodical manner, accomplishing most things on the list and explaining why the items that couldn't be repaired are the way they are. Having these annoyances removed has certainly improved the quality of life in my little home. I have already recommended the company to a friend who was complaining about difficulties she is experiencing in her older home. And I have started my next list of nits in my unit that would be nice to have fixed. We hired this company in the Fall to do general house repair and repair/replace the wood fence in our yard. After spending several thousand dollars in fence repairs, the fence was clearly not properly repaired and the job was incomplete. I asked the owner, Darryl Rose, to come by and inspect the work. He agreed that major problems were missed and promised to have his guys come out again to complete. One week later, part of the fence actually blew down entirely. He and his team came out and wanted to charge me another grand to repair the repair for which I had already paid him for. Additionally, the caulking they did in our master bath shower is already coming off after less than three months. I would definitely not work with this company. we used these guys for some minor work in a bathroom to install new light fixtures. The job took much longer than expected and they were unable to complete the job. we ended up hiring an electrician who took less than 5 minutes to diagnose and fix the issue that the Get Dwell handyman spent several hours was unable to diagnose and fix. the handyman was not very happy when we refused to pay for his several hours of diagnosis, but the manager at Get Dwell agreed that we should not have to pay for their mistakes. avoid these guys... read more

Our stair banister disconnected from the wall and with two young kids in our house, we were concerned for everyone's safety. Lynn let me know that she could schedule us for two days later, but she would also put out a call to the workers asking if anyone finished early that same day, would they be willing to squeeze our job in. Phil came to our rescue. He started the job around 5:30 - a time most workers call it a day. Including a trip to the hardware store, he was done an hour later. Phil did a great job. Excellent work. We had an excellent experience with Get Dwell. We had some plaster walls repaired and repainted and a basement floor stripped off layers of old paint. Rocky did an excellent job of managing the project and the painting team that was brought in was professional, courteous and exceeded are high expectations.
