Filthy facilities. Mold everywhere. Poor customer service. Terrible accounting. Overall bad business people. I recommend the ARC.

I was a member here for 22 months. Total garbage. Ownership are rent-seeking scumbags. I only stayed a member for that period because I live two blocks away. Yes - they have several courts, weights, equipment, a pool, etc...they also have locker rooms that never get cleaned and consistently smell of piss, broken down equipment, and ownership that gives zero sh*ts about doing anything other than abusing their de facto monopoly on the gym market in Davis. I work in Woodland now and gym at InShape - half the price for the same equipment and facilities (but newer and maintained) and staff/management that actually have ownership of their client satisfaction. Do yourself a favor and avoid this gym. read more

We joined GFDS because our son's swim team practices here. We thought we may as well try this gym out while they are swimming with the AquaMonsters. We have been so satisfied with the wide variety of classes this gym offers and the environment GFDS provides to all of it's members. They even have a sauna and a jacuzzi in the locker room! My boys (ages 6 and 4) truly look forward to the child care room. All of the people that work in the child care are so friendly and amazing with kids. If you are looking for a great facility with great classes (and amazing childcare to boot!) I couldn't suggest Get Fit Davis Sport more! read more

We joined GFS because my boys swim here (and I need to work out!). Wasn't sure as I had heard mixed reviews - well it's been GREAT! First, it's super convenient, and the front desk staff has been really friendly and helpful. There is plenty of equipment, cardio machines, free weights, etc...I can't wait to try a class! My boys swim from 3:45-4:45 and it hasn't been too crowded at all. I'm really glad the partnership was formed as I feel I get some exercise while my kids to do! Plus my husband showed them the hot tub - BIG PLUS. I have recommended it to my friends - Give it a try - you won't be disappointed. read more

There's nothing fancy about this gym. On the other hand it's not dirty, as a bunch of reviewers claim. It's not really really clean either but it's all right. (Granted, I haven't been in the ladies' locker room.) One thing to keep in mind though: when you join, and pay your $65/month or whatever, you become something like a junior claimant to the facility. Want to count on finding a full-size locker at a convenient altitude? Then pay $10/month extra to rent one. Want to swim at a convenient early evening time? Then shell out to join "masters" or triathlon training, because those two programs have a lock on all the lanes. read more

The brand new spin bikes are great!! They monitor watts, rpms, and distance and that helps you work harder. The room is very small, but some of the classes have a great atmosphere. The classes are as good as some more expensive options locally. read more

I've appreciated the partnership between Davis Aqua Monsters and Get Fit Davis Sport. My two oldest (6 & 5 years old) swim Monday, Thursday and Friday with Aqua Monsters in the Get Fit Davis Sport pool. The gym staff are super friendly and accommodating, the pool deck has shade and is a comfortable spot to watch practice from and I appreciate my children having the ability to change in the locker rooms. The five-star rating is solely for Andrea's kickboxing bag class here on Sundays, because it's the only reason I come to this gym. Her classes at the other location are just as awesome and were honestly the only reason I ever go to Get Fit. Andrea is an incredible teacher-- I have never once gone to a class of hers I didn't enjoy. She knows how to balance all the levels of experience of her students and she's probably the nicest person currently living. You can absolutely see the results of her classes after just a few weeks of going. Highly recommended. read more

New management is unresponsive and the club is deteriorating with no attention to maintenance and care

I love Andrea's kickboxing bag workout! The bag workout kicks my butt but I'm having so much fun I don't even notice. Andrea is a super good motivator and she definitely pushes me to do more than I would by myself. Great class and amazing instruction! Highly recommend. read more

Used to be a good club, new owners have just about ruined it. This COULD be a great club: the pool (when functional) has potential, the space is right, and there are rooms for different activities. Unfortunately the new owners are unprofessional and unconcerned with anything except ... well, no one really knows. 2/5 days each week the pool is freezing, because they won't apparently hire a real pool company to fix it (in 8+ years under previous management that happened twice). It's also dirty, getting cleaned sporadically. The equipment goes weeks in broken down states (never happened before). Oh, and the spa has been closed by the health department on several occasions. But hey, they're putting in a juice bar!!! Management has received many complaints, and done nothing. Actually, they haven't done *nothing*, since they did revoke the membership of one person who voiced concerns about the cleanliness and sanitary conditions. Pretty much everyone who works here seems demoralized, inept or egotistically aloof. read more

After being at this club for years, I am throwing in the towel. Ever since Get Fit took over the Davis Athletic Club, It's all about profit, getting rid of older people, and drawing in the Fit younger people who probably aren't as noticing of mold, scum, tp, or cleanliness. Attitude of so-called Manager sucks. Doesn't want to truly help you figure out solutions. I'd rather swim at a City pool and walk outside. read more

Finally getting around to posting this. I re-upped my membership for six months in March 2015, prior to change of ownership. At the end of July, I got stopped by the front desk for an expired membership. I told them I had two more months left, they told me I needed to call a guy at the main office. Called the guy, and he basically told me there's nothing they can do for me, and I'll need to pay again to keep my membership. I had been a member for the previous three years at Davis Athletic Club, and never had problems like this. All the cosmetic improvements don't fool us into believing this is a customer service oriented business, which actually cares about the members it inherited from the purchase. read more

Still no refund of my November dues even though owner promised in writing! Broken pool heater and filthy pool!

After using all my patience to see if they'd get better, I quit last month. Here is what you get: Old equipment, even old torn mats for stretching. Dirty locker rooms Gross showers - don't even expect clean curtains Staff who rarely knows what's going on and seems to care more about hanging out w/ each other And: They close down the women's locker rooms one after the other during free swim/exercise time, so you have to hang out in your wet clothes outside. In the winter!! They don't close the men's just the women's. Davis Swim and Fitness is a much better deal - friendlier and cheaper. read more

I do not approve of management resolution decisions. I find they are not handled with care. It is unfortunate to say the least.

The equipment is OK, but the new management sucks. EVERY. SINGLE. FIX. TAKES. FOREVER!, no matter how small it might be, and all seem to be done in the cheapest possible way, so it breaks down again soon after. As long as you pay your monthly fee on time, they simply don't care if you have any feedback. I've been a member for the last 5 or 6 years, but the one thing that keeps me still there today is the steam room. Definitely would NOT recommend to a friend. read more

I was member of this gym for ten years. It was always average at best, but I went because it was convenient. One day, after having received no notice of any kind that my membership had expired, someone from the desk chased me into the gym to ask my to renew my membership. I said I would handle it on the way out, but he refused to let me even continue my workout. I felt insulted, walked out and have never gone back. There are many cheaper and better gym options in Davis. Since the new management came into the gym, they've made a bunch of useless cosmetic changes, such as painting motivational slogans on the walls. But the stretching cubicles are still dusty and crowded with miscellaneous stuff and the gym remains a very average one at best. As other have mentioned, it is no longer even possible to contact the management. read more

I love this club! I used to belong to DAC and now that it is Get Fit Davis Sport it is so much better. The new owners are really nice and they made the new club so much better. Just the new non slip floor is great. It used to be cracked concrete like you were walking outside!!! I know they are updating things slowly but its going to be great when its done. I go to the gym to do the bodypump classes and the bootcamp at night. I bring my son and put him in the childcare and they help him with his homework. The staff is helpful and really nice and so are the trainers. I heard that get fit davis took over a super run down building and are improving it to make it the best gym in davis. I would recommend this gym to everyone in Davis. I love this place!!!!! read more

Just joined Get Fit Davis Sport, first because my kids swim with the Aquamonsters swim program and am very appreciative of the GFD owners being so supportive of giving back to the Davis community. The staff is extremely friendly, was very helpful about signing up and the service was great. Equipment is all I could ask for from a facility. The change in management really brought everything downhill. I came here mostly for the pool and they had issues with heating it, cleaning it, chlorinating it, everything you could think of. I don't know why it's so hard because I've run a pool and that sort of stuff shouldn't happen more than once but it kept happening. Additionally the new staff wasn't nearly as friendly and it seems like they implement more and more programs that they can make money off of. The one thing I loved was the turbo kick class with Amber. If you're considering this gym, absolutely go to that class, she's the reason I stuck around for a few months after being frustrated with management. read more

Used to be an awesome place to work out-but things have really gone downhill-which makes me think the new owners do not understand their clientele. Instead of investing money in fixing the machines-which are breaking apart-particularly upstairs-they built a juice bar. There are no longer clear pool hours-so now there are always lots of kids and toddlers in the therapy pool screaming and jumping in. They messed up on my billing for three months, and now, inexplicably many classes and groups cost money. I loved DAC because I just needed a chill environment to go and work out-and, ironically, get fit . I really liked the family vibe-and the fact that there were people of all ages working out. I heard from many of the senior ladies from my water aerobics classes that they feel pushed out, which is a shame really, because there is nothing like working out with a 90 year old to make you realize that you could be pushing yourself harder. TLDR-it's dirty, they don't seem to care about keeping it clean-and the machines are broken. read more

Been a member for more than 5 yrs, but no more. From the pool heater regularly not working to the sub-par improvements to lock rooms, broken water cooler, machine pads that take 3 weeks to replace, the new owners are clueless about customer satisfaction. Previous staff (all gone) did way better. Not sure GFD will be in business in 6 months - time for a membership elsewhere. Very disappointing. read more

After smoothing out the kinks, this company that took over the former Davis Athletic Club has done a good job, at least in terms of the swimming pool which is the only facility I use. They're good about posting announcements of closure (for cleaning, etc.) ahead of time, and they post the temperatures of the two pools daily. If the women's changing room were bigger and better, I might be tempted to use that also, but as it is, I just come ready to swim and then drive home wet. read more

I have been a member for 10 plus years and never have experienced as many problems with the club as the last 2 years. Today, Wednesday 3/7, I went to swim laps and the schedule said all lap lanes were open between 2 and 5 pm so I got there at 3:15 pm and was promptly booted out of my lane at 3:40 pm for .......'classes'. This is happening more and more where regularly paying, loyal, long time members are now having to fight to find swim lane time and the schedule is inaccurate. This is the 3rd time this has happened to me in my last 6 trips to the club. I hope management reads these reviews because the people at the front desk could not care less, "just use another lane" is the response but they were all full, which is why I got there in the supposed open swim time. Also locker room had paper all over the floor again, on a positive note the soap dispensers were replaced and all work great now. Small victories. Hoping for change before I need to make a switch. read more

I'm new to Davis and went on quite a search for a gym with a pool. I would say that is the only reason I keep my membership here. I am 45 years old and have had a steady gym membership since I was 13. I have worked out in a lot of different gyms, including some that were rather run down. But this place is the worst. The women's locker rooms - I can't even deal! I stopped using it when there was ZERO response by the management to the issue of there being no privacy screen at the entrance of the locker room. Even though there is both a hot tub and a dry sauna, they are filthy and the locker room isn't set up for real people with real stuff to be able to change. I think there is only 1 bench for all the lockers. More than 2 people in there and you are SOL. Beyond that, the place is clearly run down and I haven't seen a single improvement in the 6 months I have been there, aside from painting the hallway. People come and sweat all over the equipment and don't wipe it down. Staff aren't going through and doing regular clean downs. I literally clean everything before I use it and wash my hands (if the soap dispenser is stocked) before I leave this place. Equipment breaks and it isn't replaced. The pool, which is a god send for me, is fine but again no equipment - no fins, no board, no nothing. It is just strange and it seems like it has quite a lot of potential if they would just invest some money into it. read more

I was a member of this gym prior to the time that it became GFDS and maintained my membership when its ownership changed. When it was DAC, there was some grumbling among the members about how run down the place was but it was kept clean and equipment was kept in running order. As soon as it changed hands, there were lots of cosmetic "improvements" but actual improvement in the equipment has proved elusive and, in fact, in terms of the aqua programs, things have regressed and there seems to be a constant breakdown of equipment in both pools and the spa (hot tub). Whereas DAC had a stable staffing, there is constant turn-over in the staff at GFDS. It is possible that since a manager for the club was finally hired, this will improve. Finally, the Nautilus equipment is in dismal condition and should have been replaced years ago. The machines are simply worn out and cannot be repaired at this point. If there were another gym in town that offered a good aqua program, I would change in a minute. But, as the owner of the gym (and who also owns Get Fit Davis) said, when he purchased DAC, he did it so his clubs would be "the only game in town." This gym would benefit from competition. read more

Davis Athletic Club was OK because I could buy a punch card and just use it for the yoga classes. The punch cards, worth 10 visits, were usually on sale in December for $100 for the first and $80 or $90 for the second. That averages out to less than $10 per class, which is a good deal. The woman's locker room was always a little dumpy, and they've now redone the locker room to make it ... dumpier. They took out a lot of lockers and left a wide open empty room with decades-old linoleum on the floor. One of two toilets is perenially out of order, and the water fountain in the lobby is also currently out of order. (Who wants water at a fitness center anyway, right?) They've also hiked the punch card price to $125, and they say there will be no discount in December. I'm going to talk to the yoga teacher and find out where else in town she has classes, because I can't see paying a 25%-plus increase for the same class at a dumpier facility. read more

I hoped that the new management of Get Fit would upgrade the facility. That should have been fairly easy to do as the the old Davis Athletic Club management seemed more devoted to lackadaisical maintenance than improving the facility. Unfortunately, the new management seems worse. Their business model seems based on the success of the airlines. Instead of offering better service, they nickel and dime you to death over little things. An example: their new lockers, seemingly a much needed upgrade, but no. Now they lease these new lockers t to customers in "need" of permanent locker space. This means that regulars that come in at 5:00 a.m (or any other time for that matter).find most of the choice locker space taken by people who rarely use them. If you're tall and have a handicap - tough luck. I could go on with other examples of their airline management style but won't. The unfortunate fact is that Get Fit is a poorer version of the old DAC. read more
