Between the pre-set appointment times and getting used to the other people you see when you're there, going to the gym becomes a welcome, semi-social commitment instead of something you can blow off with no one but your own sense of shame noticing. Was also really impressed how the place was run during the worst of the pre-vaccine pandemic; not a single case of transmission on site. It offered me some structure and somewhere "safe" to go during dark times. Thank you, gym! When I was first googling women's gyms in Camberville after parting ways with the healthyworks a few years ago, I was skeptical of this place because I thought the staff would be trying to tell me to lose weight. That's not something I ever want to hear from anyone, and luckily no staffer has ever said anything to me about it! I know some members ask to be weighed sometimes, but it seems the staff only go there if you do. I started with a complimentary session, and I wasn't completely convinced because the audio track announcing sets and keeping time freaked me out. After a second complimentary session I decided the audio was not a dealbreaker, and I have been a paying member ever since with no end in sight. If you want gym to be part of your life but can't self motivate, but CAN keep your appointments, this might be the place for you. read more

I love this gym! I've done circuit training at several gyms and this is my favorite by far! Catering to women of all ages, John and Katie are great about adapting workouts to all levels, limitations and abilities. I don't feel the pressure I did at other gyms about not being able to keep up someone much younger than me (I'm 54), but still feel challenged (in a good way). I have been doing small group training at Get In Shape for Women for at least 7 years and I can honestly say it has been the best Gym experience I have ever had! I love the fact that the Gym goers are all women -- the only man is the fabulous John who is the utmost, well trained professional while being approachable and FUN! Katie is our other coach who joined the team in the last year. She is warm, down to earth and really focussed on the individual needs of each person in the Gym. A great addition! These women are the REAL deal!! I walked in thinking it would be a touchy feely place for women who don't want to work hard but everyone I met has met amazing goals and is incredibly hard working. The staff is incredibly accommodating, supportive, kind, but also willing to kick your ass which is just what I needed. They tailor to your schedule and I text them on weekends with random questions about food choices and they are always a big help! The customer service is above and beyond and now going to the gym is the highlight of my day. Definitely recommend the program. The initial price is steep but they're willing to work out payment plans. Worth every penny. read more

Their workout is motivating and great. I was in need of special attention as I had bad knees. John was very good in coming up with workout ideas that fit very well for me. As a gym I was very disappointed with the service provided. It's a steep price and you have to set up appointments ahead of time. This may be motivating for some people but more often than not I need to squeeze gym time into my schedule and don't want to have to plan all my sessions in advance. And they are closed Sundays. Lame enough. Here's what made me mad enough to actually write a review. I signed up for a trial membership last year, decided it wasn't for me, and left. Easy as that, no hard feelings just wanted something that fit my schedule and budget better. One year later I start getting charges from the gym again claiming that since they didn't have anything in writing saying I left that the charges are legitimate and they won't refund ($483) these payments. I was under the impression that by speaking with the manager who assured my I was all set when I left and then not being billed for a year that my membership was properly cancelled but now I am out almost $500. It was a waste of money to work out there and an ever bigger waste when I wasn't! read more

The workouts themselves are fine, the trainers are nice, and the appointment system is effective in getting couch potatoes off the couch. The problem I had here is with their manipulative and dishonest pricing. When I joined, I asked if there were ever any discounts or promotions that could bring down the fairly high cost per workout, and I was told in no uncertain terms that there were not. So I paid. Over the next weeks and months, I realized that there are actually a LOT of discounts and promotions available to existing members and their friends, and that I was paying quite a bit more per workout than people who signed up through these avenues. So I felt I had been misled. When I brought the issue up with staff and management, the management was completely uninterested in making things right. Not only did they refuse to refund any portion of what I paid for my subscription (fair enough), but they also refused to refund a separate gift I had received from a friend, which was outside any specific package and which they had previously suggested would be refundable. Then the gym switched from a paper booking system to an online system--a good idea--but even after repeated requests via email, phone, and in person, they did not give me access to make appointments online. So they insisted that I should use the remainder of my credit instead of getting a refund, but then effectively made it impossible for me to do so. The icing on the cake is that they still send me promotional emails, asking for more money. read more

Ignore any review before Spring 2015. This GISFW is under new management since then and the new owner/manager and trainer are wonderful: knowledgeable, hardworking, committed and caring. They get to know each client very well and adjust their workouts accordingly to each person's needs and goals. I was a client at another very high performing GISFW before moving to this area and this studio is as good or better. Not cheap and you have to make a long term commitment but for me it's perfect and the next best thing to 1:1 personal training. read more

I like to start with the positive. In my monthlong trial membership at Get in Shape for Women, I worked with two trainers, and both seemed knowledgeable, professional, and organized. I particularly enjoyed working with Adam, who was very personable and professional. That's where the positive ends. My main impression of this "gym," if you can call it that, is "Yuck." I experienced very poor customer service from the center's management, who treated me as a second-class citizen, most likely because I had used a Living Social voucher for my trial month. It took two weeks (half my trial) before I was given any sort of orientation to their program, and not because of lack of effort on my part. For a place whose entire philosophy is based on its clients' individual goals, they did a poor job of identifying or responding to mine. I must also mention that I don't think the facility was cleaned/dusted even once in the month I went there; I kept seeing the same dust in the waiting area and the bathroom. Plus, several of the furnishings still had sticker tags from the store where they had been bought! How tacky and shoddy. This place is a workout factory. You step onto the assembly line and come out at the other end. If you follow everything they tell you, sure, you'll lose weight, and sure, you'll get stronger. But I was wholly unimpressed with the way this center was run. It was soulless and devoid, at least in my case, of the kind of customer service that sells memberships. Frankly, it was a little bit nasty--and definitely overpriced. Go to Healthworks instead. You'll get more out of one session with a personal trainer there than you will out of Get in Shape for Women. read more

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I have been a client for almost 3 years and although it was good before, with changes in management and training staff, it has become great. Trainers are true professionals, flexible and adaptive to clients' needs and the atmosphere is upbeat and fun. GISFW at Porter Square made it easy for me to come in and work out, because I knew I was supported and encouraged by two talented, knowledgeable people. Katie and John are great trainers (and I've known a few). They are happy to share what they know, explained the exercises clearly, and answered all my questions. I was very unfit when I came. Six months later, I have a core! and upper body strength! and a record now of pushing through to make it happen! It makes such a different to me to have my strength back. I have recommended the Porter GISFW to my friends because how professional this place is. I first joined with a six-month deal in September 2015 (all pricing details up front and clear!). I wanted to get into the fitness groove again and build my strength and flexibility, particularly since I'm "older." Katie and John asked at each session what I wanted to focus on and varied the workouts every day; they made sure my workout met my needs (knee issues). Also there is something about working out with just two or three other women that's really supportive.
