Though they speak soothingly to you as you're waiting in the chair, it's impossible not to eye the arsenal of sharp implements they lay out on their tiny sterilized table with horror. So, if you are like I am, and you experience a tiny wave of terror every time you think of going to the dentist, I recommend you go see Dr. Marcarian. After decades of seeing the same dentist (and a few years of feeling as though I wasn't receiving their best care), I decided to make the switch to Dr. Marcarian, and it was the best decision I could have made for my dental health. Now, not only do I see him, but my best friend and boyfriend do as well! The waiting room is clean, comfortable, and inviting. Overstuffed chairs and couches provide plenty of sitting room, so if there's a wait, you are able to wait in comfort. The reception area is set up so that there is a low bar separating you from the back rooms, but it's possible to see the receptionist and technicians at all times; a nice distinction from being shut off from everyone and everything in the back at other doctors' offices. The staff is friendly and informative. They do their best to accommodate your schedule without hassle or resentment, and the hygienists are great at setting even the most nervous patient's mind at ease. Dr. Marcarian himself is wonderful. He is gentle, kind, and easygoing, quick with a joke and ready to engage his patients. That's not to say anything of his experience and professionalism; in particular, I have found that he is incredibly thorough, not only with his explanations and descriptions of procedures, but in his walk-through when he is attending to patients directly. It's such a relief to know when and what to expect in the next step in what a dentist is doing. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Marcarian and his entire support staff! When I made a recent move to Encino, finding a new dentist was one of the tasks I dreaded most. I am so thankful to have found this office. In addition to being an extremely skilled dentist, he is a warm and funny man who strives to ensure his patients are comfortable and happy. I appreciate that he never makes me feel rushed, and spends as much time as needed to ensure I understand the procedure at hand as well as the options available to me. I recently had a veneer pop off (that had been placed by a different dentist over 10 years ago), and Dr. Marcarian came to my rescue to fix it that very morning. I was in tears when I arrived, but within minutes he had me laughing and out the door with my veneer back in place. Like others have noted, I've also had Dr. Marcarian call to check on me himself. I've gone to many other dentists in the past, and I've never received that level of service before. To find a doctor who genuinely cares about his patients is very rare, in my opinion. I was born with an unfortunate condition commonly known as being "tongue-tied." The frenulum, or that skin under the tongue, naturally extends all the way to the tip, making my tongue basically useless for speech and other, um, activities. I'd gotten it cut before, but it grew back, so I decided to look into the magic of laser lingual frenectomies. If you're tongue-tied and need to be shot in the mouth with a laser, I couldn't recommend Dr. Mercarian more. The procedure was comfortable, quick, and the Doc even called me later to see how I was doing. The prices were sane; as a patient, I'm always trying to find that perfect marriage between reasonable prices and top-notch care. I'd rather pay more for great work, but here, I didn't have to. If you hate the dentist because of the stuffy/scary atmosphere, look no further; "the doc" has an excellent sense of humor. I'm not the type of person who relaxes to dolphin pictures and guided meditation. I need to make a joke. I need to be treated like the intelligent, youth-ey, humor-hungry gal I am. Dr. Mercarian and his adorable assistant Stephen were like the dental versions of Stewart and Colbert. I've never felt more comfortable at a dentist's office. read more

I would never trust my pearly whites to anyone else other than Dr. Marcarian and his staff. It was hard for me to trust another dentist after a horrible experience I had with a previous dental visit before becoming Dr. Marcarian's patient. I had just moved in the area and went to one that was nearby. Needless to say, I never went back to that dentist. I found Dr. Marcarian back when he was working at a dental group office located in Reseda. He opened his own location and I decided I was going to follow him wherever he went. I've been a patient of his for about 8 years now. I've come to know his staff, who are very friendly. My hygenist, Roy, is gentle and thorough when cleaning my teeth. My experiences at this dental office have been anything but horrific. There has not been one instance where I was given less than satisfactory care. First off I's like to say that he is the best dentist I have ever been to. I went into his office and they called me in right on time of my appointment. It was a vary clean and spacious office and room. All the staff there were amazing! I went in for a gingivectomy, and I am so happy I chose Dr. Marcarian for this procedure. I am extremely satisfied with the work he did on my teeth. Before I had a gummy smile, I was very self conscious of it, and now I am in love with my new smile. Almost halfway into the procedure he showed me what he had done, and I just broke down in tears of joy, literally tears of joy was rolling down my face as he was continuing with the rest. I LOVE the way it looks now!!! He is a very kind, funny and a friendly man. Prior to my procedure date, at my consultation he was very informational. He took is time and explained everything and didn't rush through it at all. I also would like to mention that I have never in my life experienced a dentist numbing my gums the way he did. Truly i apologize to Dr. Marcarian! He is a great dentist:) I was always so busy with work, and missed appointments, but he was always nice enough to bring me in as soon as possible, during any emergency he was always there. He took his time, and helped me a lot, always calling to check up after any major root canal, etc. I am afraid of dentists and it took me a good year to warm up to him, he really does want the best for his patients. I had to get fillings replaced this morning, and was a little nervous. It has been years since I've had to have "work" done on my teeth besides the typical cleaning. Dr. Marcarian and Steve were great! He was patient, too his time and walked me through each step of the way. I have to have my right side done and I will definitely not be as nervous as I was going into my appointment today. I have had numerous issues with my teeth and he is one of the best dentists I have ever had. Today, I had an emergency where I was in pain. I called and they immediately called me back and I got in. My family has been seeing Dr. Marcarian for nearly four years. We moved out of the Valley in 2011 and while my husband kept make the drive to see Dr. Marcarian, I decided to find a local dentist. Such a mistake! I now make the 45-60 minute drive twice a year for my cleanings and check ups. The staff is fantastic. They validate parking. The office is clean and comfortable. Dr. Marcarian has a great chair-side manner. I recently had my 3 1/2 year old have his first check up & cleaning. The dental hygienist who cleaned his teeth was truly amazing with him. She managed to get him to lay still for the entire process. He even let her floss his teeth. No small feet, my soon is not the sit still type. Wow!!! The best dentist. He really cares for his patients. This is a classy operation. He is doing implants for me and he had to remove two bad teeth that my previous dentist screwed up. He was so gentle and smooth that I did not feel the shots he gave me. I did not even have to take pain medications after. It sounds unbelievable but its true. This review of Dr. Gevik Marcarian is long overdue!. Both my son and I am patients of his. I had my restorations done first. Beautiful work! My son's case was more challenging. After he had an examination and evaluation from another dentist, this particular dentist wanted to place zirconia crowns on ALL his molars due to grinding and decay. I forwarded the x-rays and treatment plan for Dr. Marcarian to review. He them made an appointment with Dr. Marcarian for an evaluation. The "verdict" was that for a young man of 22 years old, that was a way too aggressive treatment he didn't need. What a blessing (especially to me, his dad) that this good doctor intervened and the "proper" treatment prevailed! I'm blessed to have my first grandchild on the way (we found out a girl) and she will be the THIRD GENERATION of us Dr. Marcarian will have as patients! read more

I didn't actually have work done by this doctor, but the star rating is for the lack of customer service and rudeness I experienced. I went for a consultation to have some cosmetic work done (because of the reviews I read about him), but didn't want to go there for my ongoing dental needs because it is too far from me. They were nice at first, but when the Dr. found out that I didn't want to go there ongoing, he basically told me not to bother coming to them for this procedure because it was "too much leg work" for them to deal with the insurance if I wasn't going to go there for long term dental work. I was floored! This was after he went on and on about how he likes to help people look better and feel good about themselves during my initial visit! I guess he only wants to help people look good if it's going to have a financial benefit for him in the long term. read more

It is a with heavy heart that I try to establish dental care here in San Francisco. I kept him as a dentist for 2.5 years since I moved here to SF but alas the distance is getting to be too much. But before I try to move on I wanted to remember the good memories with Dr. Marcarian. He is a really laid back cool guy & the entire staff is nice. Out of the five dentists I have visited my entire life, he was the funnest to visit & his anesthesia injections (which I really dislike) were amazingly painless most of the time, & when he couldn't make it painless because of inevitable sensible areas, he would let me know so I could brace myself. I really liked his honesty and real-talk. And when I had no job & was struggling financially but still needed dental work, he gave me discounts/special pricing on all my services.
