I'd been through years ago, in college, but don't remember much about it back then. Now, it's a really cute town, and the main shopping area was filled with great little independent shops. We stopped in at The Blackbird, and were immediately reminded of one of our favorite places, Cedarburg, WI, where the town's old woolen mill was turned into cute little shops. It even smelled like the Cedarburg shops (they sell yummy smelling candles at the Blackbird)! In any case, the shop may not be for everyone, but my sister and I love all things bird, and there were a lot of bird themed items, from figurines to useful things like hooks and hanging racks, etc. They had some really nice area rugs and a huge variety of artwork, most with more "country" inspired themes, so again, it may not be to everyone's taste, but I'm pretty eclectic, and love antiques and sleek modern things. If my boyfriend hadn't put a moratorium on the number of tchotchkes I can bring into the house, I'd have gone to town shopping! Instead, I only purchased the cutest children's book for the children of a friend (Memoirs of a Hamster), and a Warren Kimble pillow with a rabbit on it, for a bunny loving friend's upcoming birthday. If I'm ever in Holland again, I will definitely stop in to the Blackbird, and hopefully buy something wonderful for myself!

First of all-I'm aware this place is overpriced but I like more of a local store feel. I've spent thousands at this store over the last few years. The woman with short hair who works here is extremely rude and made not just us but several customers uncomfortable to the point where we ALL exchanged glances and whispers after she left the area. The lady with the longer hair who mostly cashiers is very friendly and sweet but I won't be returning because I'm not going to overpay AND be patronized/given a bad experience on top of it. The short hair woman was truly something else. When a customer missed a sign about not being able to open the tea jars instead of correcting them and moving on/offering to help she started presenting the sign and waving it around in front of their face while also subtly implying they couldn't read. Then she proceeded to give them a long lecture about it? What kind of customer service is this?!? She followed us around the store presenting us with information we never asked until we all got annoyed to the point where we walked out. What an absolute miserable woman who should never work in a customer facing role. This place is a hard pass from now on until they get some better and more respectful staff.

I went inside to tell the man at the front desk I was overloaded by their team. I was not going to pay the difference and asked to trade the additional yards I was given for clean wood chips for a playground. Man behind the desk says sure, tells me to pull back to get loaded. After waiting 15 mins to be loaded I had to go inside AGAIN to ask to be loaded. Man called not 1 but 2 people back to load me up with chips. Upon this happening, I went inside to see the difference in price if I owed them or was going to have money coming back to me. Man, then asks me again how many chips I was loaded with. I confirmed 2 1/2 yards, which is what I returned from being overloaded by his team. The man then looks at me, hops on the phone and asks them how much they loaded me with. They then confirmed 2 1/2 yards (exactly wtf I asked for.) Then hangs up the phone and proceeds to look at me and says, "I guess you weren't lying." Then proceeds to ask if I wanted my 52. cent refund. If you want shit ass customer service and a company that doesn't know wtf they're doing, feel free to shop here or give these idiots a call. Don't expect to get any money owed back to you either as they ask if you ever want your refund. Will never come back here and will be sure to tell all of my clients to steer clear of this shit hole.
