This last visit was extremely out of the ordinary. Came in the afternoon for a late lunch, and everything was fine albeit the waitress was a bit standoffish. No big deal. Ordered chicken tinga enchiladas. Friends of mine received their food, and was still waiting for mine. Enchiladas didn't even have chicken in them, it was beans and I guess bacon? There's not even an option for these enchiladas. All good, mistakes happen. Sent them back to receive what I ordered. Waitress never even came to check on us, and so I had to notify a different waiter, who was right on top of it (more to follow on that later). I waited for a while. My friends had pretty much finished their meals. I noticed my correct enchiladas at the window just sitting there. Waitress never grabbed them or bothered to check. She probably didn't even know it was her table's since she never bothered to check on us. Same waiter who helped us before, noticed it was there, noticed the other waitress was not grabbing them (as in stared at her) , and brought them for us. Kudos to that guy. Wish the tip went to him instead of her. This waitress honestly did not even care. Didn't apologize for absolutely anything. I've never had a standoffish/negligent server at this place. My coworker and I went to this establishment after reading positive reviews for lunch in La Mesa. We went on a weekday, so there was plenty of parking in the small lot. The hostess seated us immediately, and then it was downhill from there... It wasn't a busy day. While our drink order was taken pretty immediately, it took a while to place our food order. I'm not flagging anyone down either, so we put our menus down and waited, and waited. The iced Mexican Mocha's were a complete let down. We were ready for the bold, delicious taste but could already tell something was off by the color alone. It was very light in color and mostly tasted of milk with a hint of mocha. So we sipped on our "iced milk" until our orders arrived. We planned to split the avocado toast plate but out came a single piece of avocado toast with eggs and potatoes, all for the price of what we all expect avocado toast to be. I laughed when cutting the single slice in half, cause I was trying to make the best of it. It didn't crunch and cut like regular toast and was fairly stale, hard bread that had been toasted so it was chewy and an effort to eat. The rest of the food was fairly meh. Our server only stopped by to take our drink and our food order. Period. He never checked up on us, never gave us more napkins (I kept laughing at how many times I had folded my original single napkin to create more useable space), never put sides on the table like I saw on other tables, nothing. Again, I don't chase and flag people down. I want a perfect reflection of the service a restaurant has to offer and it was thumbs down. We saw the busser more often as he came plenty of times to clean up used plates. Such a nice older man with a positive attitude and a smile! 2 stars: 1 star for the food being edible, 1 star for quick seating and the kind busser. Overall the price doesn't match the quality and the service was terrible. The food presents well visually but tastes bland, boring, not right (super milk mocha), or a combination of the aforementioned. In this economy, where you spend your hard earned dollars is as paramount as expecting an establishment to be inviting and respectful of it. We got the poblano green chilaquiles and it was really good and great flavor. But we also got the steak sandwich which had no flavor at all. We had such a great experience at Farmer's Table La Mesa today! They just launched their new menu today and also remodeled the restaurant, and everything looks beautiful and updated. We were really happy with the new menu and the food was delicious. A huge shoutout to Eddie, our waiter, who made the experience even better. He was incredibly sweet, attentive, and checked on us several times throughout our meal without being overbearing. He made sure our drinks stayed filled, explained the new menu to us, and after our food came out he genuinely wanted to make sure everything was correct and that we were happy with our order. Excellent service like that is unfortunately rare nowadays, and it really stood out to us. We ordered the pork belly pizza and loved it! My husband has celiac disease, so finding good gluten-free pizza can be difficult, but they did an amazing job making sure everything was completely gluten free and prepared correctly. My husband and I have been here a few times. This was our first time after their renovation and new items on the menu. I typically get the mole chilaquiles. They're consistently delicious- I do ask for no sour cream but I'm sure it would be equally if not more good with it to soften the spice. My husband had their new chicken tinga enchiladas. He nearly licked the plate clean. The poblano sauce was amazing as was the tinga sauce. Would definitely recommend!! Well as one of the girls got up from the table she kicked this LIVE cockroach over on its back . We called waitress over and she had to kill it and clean it up. She did move us to a different table but that was it. She then told us at the end of the visit that she let her manager know the situation and was sorry. Nothing compensated, manager didn't even come to our table to apologize. We were incredibly grossed out but had already put in our food order and just hoped for the best. We live nearby and have been regular customers of Farmer's Table, but unfortunately the service has declined significantly. We recently brought friends visiting from Los Angeles for brunch over the weekend. The restaurant was not busy at all. The host greeted us promptly and seated us right away, which was a great start. However, after that, things went downhill quickly. About 5-10 minutes after being seated, a busser brought us water. Another 10 minutes passed before our server finally came to the table. There was no greeting, acknowledgment, or apology for the nearly 20-minute wait. We were ready to order both drinks and food, but the server insisted on taking only drink orders first. One member of our group requested a Mexican coffee, which traditionally includes a shot of tequila. The server immediately responded with an attitude, saying it was no longer on the menu. I asked if the bar could simply add a shot of tequila to a regular coffee since Farmer's Table has a full bar and experienced bartenders. She refused without offering any alternative, so we settled for regular coffee. At this point, we had already been there for 20 minutes and were ready to order our meals. Another 10 minutes went by, and instead of returning to our table, the server was taking food orders from another table that had just been seated. After sitting there for over 30 minutes with nothing but water--which we had already finished--and still no coffee or opportunity to place our food order, we decided enough was enough. Our entire group got up and left. We informed the hostess before leaving. To make matters worse, I've since seen multiple reviews mentioning roach sightings. Between the unacceptable service and those reports, we won't be returning. There are plenty of other restaurants within walking distance that will gladly receive our business. read more

I genuinely do not understand what our server's issue was with us, but this was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had strictly because of the service. This was my second time at Farmers Table La Mesa. The first time I came, everything was amazing and our server was attentive, kind, and welcoming, which is why I decided to come back. The food this time was still phenomenal, but our server, Luis, was unbelievably rude from the second we sat down. The attitude started immediately. He rushed us while ordering, cut us off while we were speaking, and acted irritated that we were even asking questions. Mind you, our order was not complicated at all. I ordered the birria omelette, my friend ordered the pulled pork omelette, and we shared the Nutella pancakes. That was it. The entire interaction felt hostile for absolutely no reason. He rolled his eyes at us repeatedly, slammed our drinks and plates onto the table hard enough for us to notice every single time, barely spoke to us, and walked away before we could even finish talking. When he brought my lemonade, it was noticeably smaller than what I received on my previous visit, and he practically threw it onto the table with an attitude. What pushed this experience from rude to completely unacceptable was overhearing him making comments about us in Spanish. I understand enough Spanish to know we were being called "ugly Black girls." As African-American women who came in respectful, well-groomed, and completely polite the entire time, that was honestly humiliating and disgusting to hear. There was absolutely no reason for name-calling or racist comments of any kind, especially in a language he assumed we would not understand. The worst part is that after dropping off the food, he completely ignored our table for the rest of the meal. My food was slightly underseasoned, and I couldn't even ask for salt and pepper because nobody checked on us once. Not one time. We had to keep trying to flag down bussers for help, and even then nothing really got handled. When it was finally time to pay, the host from outside literally had to come get Luis because he had disappeared. Then while I was paying, he snatched my card out of my hand in such an aggressive and dismissive way that I genuinely sat there wondering what we had done to deserve being treated like that. I have never written a Yelp review before, but this experience genuinely upset me. I left feeling disrespected, uncomfortable, and honestly embarrassed. The saddest part is that the food was SO good, which makes this even more disappointing.
