I was not impressed with the food or the service. My kids and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, and the hostess let us know that they were only serving pizza and salad at that time. No problem. We were fine with that. Unfortunately, the service went downhill from there. Our waitress wasn't very welcoming and honestly seemed like she had mentally clocked out already. I understand there wasn't much to choose from, but we still felt rushed to place our order. We ordered the chicken pesto pizza, and when it came out, we didn't even have plates on the table. I'm not sure why our waitress didn't make sure we had plates before our food arrived, but I ended up having to flag down another staff member just to get some. I've been here a few times, and I feel like it's increasingly becoming worse. Wait times were my first issue. I don't know if I'm just coming at the worst times or what but 30+ minuets to even take my order is crazy. Today I came with a friend who raved about the place and even though I DO like the food...(once it arrives). I was hesitant... and of course today we waited about 30+ minuets before I had to flag a whole other waiter down to take our order...like we literally had to flag a whole entire new waiter down to order food! We just got the food to go. But that isn't the worst part! They made me an ice coffee to go which was a part of my order...and I drank almost all of it until I seen something floating in it. Mind you, I thought maybe I was tripping and lo and behold. It was a fly. A damn fly! Like why God?! I almost threw up my meal. I call the establishment like wtf?!! Really great restaurant in cute downtown La Mesa! Meet a friend here for lunch at her suggestion and it did not disappoint. We were seated on their front patio so we didn't really see the inside of the restaurant but it looks cute from all the photos. Maybe next time! Had such a great time last time I came here. So I decided to come again for breakfast. I went again on Saturday the 18th around 10am it was not busy at all, and had the worst meal and service. My "server" was not friendly didnt even say hi to us , and did not check up on us once. Our food was covered in sauce. We got the chilaquiles and there was so much green sauce soaking the bottom and grease from the short rib. We also got the steak sandwich which had no steak in it and was mainly cheese. We barely ate it and our server saw us pretty much done with our meal and went to walk towards us and then turned around. The only good thing was another server I didn't get his name checked on us and he was sooooo nice. Even checked us out because our server didn't. The crazy thing is the so called server was actually the assistant manager (Luis b. )of this place which the server told us when we asked who that guy was. We were shocked. We got the poblano green chilaquiles and it was really good and great flavor. But we also got the steak sandwich which had no flavor at all. The pork belly benedict sat in a pool of very mediocre green salsa with two poached eggs tasting like vinegar. One poached egg was half the size of the other. We had such a great experience at Farmer's Table La Mesa today! They just launched their new menu today and also remodeled the restaurant, and everything looks beautiful and updated. We were really happy with the new menu and the food was delicious. A huge shoutout to Eddie, our waiter, who made the experience even better. He was incredibly sweet, attentive, and checked on us several times throughout our meal without being overbearing. He made sure our drinks stayed filled, explained the new menu to us, and after our food came out he genuinely wanted to make sure everything was correct and that we were happy with our order. Excellent service like that is unfortunately rare nowadays, and it really stood out to us. We ordered the pork belly pizza and loved it! My husband has celiac disease, so finding good gluten-free pizza can be difficult, but they did an amazing job making sure everything was completely gluten free and prepared correctly. This happened in July & August 2026. (1) July 2026: My mom, daughter and I were treated poorly the moment we approached the host podium. My daughter noticed a large bucket labeled "crayons" and showed me. Once we were seated, our server handed us our menus, including a kids menu to my daughter. We asked for crayons and our server said the restaurant had none. Another girl came by and poured us water; I said our server just said there were no crayons but there was a large bucket of them up at the front and to please bring us a few. All of a sudden they had crayons. We used to come here specifically for brunch on weekends for their pecan chicken and I'd also order their Caprese salad. Both apparently have been taken off the menu. We couldn't ask our server because she never returned to our table after openly lying about the crayons. At least 10 minutes had passed since we were poured water by the 2nd girl. We finally saw our server and I looked directly at her and said, "We're ready to order when you have a moment." Our server didn't acknowledge us, but walked right passed us to the next table then went back inside. Farmer's Table made it clear we were not wanted, and it was an easy decision to walk out and leave. My mom and I were irritated and confused because we'd been there several times without any issues. We walked out and went to Limoncello across the street and had a lovely meal. (2) August 2026: Despite the horrible experience a few weeks earlier, my mom and I (no child with us this time) gave Farmer's Table one more chance, namely because their pecan chicken is/was THAT GOOD. I told my mom it only takes one poor service interaction to never return again, but we will make one exception for the pecan chicken. It happened again. Once we were seated, no server came to our table in over 10 minutes (I know because I timed it on my phone!); when our server finally approached our table, we asked about the pecan chicken to which he replied it was taken off the menu. We thanked him for providing us with an answer and said it was the main reason we wanted to here, so we left. The length of time between being seated and the server finally getting around to us was the issue. We left and had a lovely lunch at Thai Time in El Cajon. Farmers Table is dead to us and we won't be returning. Other reviews on here also reflect their poor service which they seem to cherry pick for some, not all, customers. read more

A Perfect Spot for Family, Dates, or Business! My wife and I stopped by Farmer's Table in La Mesa, and everything about the experience was amazing. She ordered the Chilaquiles (with a few extras added) and a Mexican Hot Chocolate, which she absolutely loved. We also grabbed a grilled cheese with fries for the kids off the children's menu only $8, and it came on fresh sourdough with perfectly crispy fries. I ordered the Birria Omelette with house potatoes and sourdough toast hands down one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully plated. The café itself has that true farmhouse charm, with rustic décor and even a full-size tractor out front such a fun touch! There's plenty of space inside and out, making it great for everything from family breakfasts to business meetings or even a romantic brunch date. I've been going to Farmers Table in La Mesa for quite awhile, and it's definitely a favorite brunch spot for my husband and I (though they also have good dinner options). The decor is charming! The go-to for my husband is their bananas foster French toast. He gets it almost every time. It has big slices of banana and comes with lots of syrup and whipped cream. If you have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend it! This time I tried out their divorciados. I loved the texture of the crunchy tortias smothered in different sauces. It could have used a bit more porkbelly for the price, but it was delicious. My mother in law got the blueberry pancakes, which she had no complaints about and took the leftovers home. We were sat outside, which was lovely this time of year. The staff are always very friendly, even when it gets overwhelmingly busy. I tend to prefer outdoors, as inside can get a little loud as the brunch crowd settles in. read more

My coworker and I went to this establishment after reading positive reviews for lunch in La Mesa. We went on a weekday, so there was plenty of parking in the small lot. The hostess seated us immediately, and then it was downhill from there... It wasn't a busy day. While our drink order was taken pretty immediately, it took a while to place our food order. I'm not flagging anyone down either, so we put our menus down and waited, and waited. The iced Mexican Mocha's were a complete let down. We were ready for the bold, delicious taste but could already tell something was off by the color alone. It was very light in color and mostly tasted of milk with a hint of mocha. So we sipped on our "iced milk" until our orders arrived. We planned to split the avocado toast plate but out came a single piece of avocado toast with eggs and potatoes, all for the price of what we all expect avocado toast to be. I laughed when cutting the single slice in half, cause I was trying to make the best of it. It didn't crunch and cut like regular toast and was fairly stale, hard bread that had been toasted so it was chewy and an effort to eat. The rest of the food was fairly meh. Our server only stopped by to take our drink and our food order. Period. He never checked up on us, never gave us more napkins (I kept laughing at how many times I had folded my original single napkin to create more useable space), never put sides on the table like I saw on other tables, nothing. Again, I don't chase and flag people down. I want a perfect reflection of the service a restaurant has to offer and it was thumbs down. We saw the busser more often as he came plenty of times to clean up used plates. Such a nice older man with a positive attitude and a smile! 2 stars: 1 star for the food being edible, 1 star for quick seating and the kind busser. Overall the price doesn't match the quality and the service was terrible. The food presents well visually but tastes bland, boring, not right (super milk mocha), or a combination of the aforementioned. In this economy, where you spend your hard earned dollars is as paramount as expecting an establishment to be inviting and respectful of it. They have an ample selection of Mexican, Italian and American inspired dishes, which seems like a lot going on but everything I saw on people's plates looked amazing. My husband and I have been here a few times. This was our first time after their renovation and new items on the menu. I typically get the mole chilaquiles. They're consistently delicious- I do ask for no sour cream but I'm sure it would be equally if not more good with it to soften the spice. My husband had their new chicken tinga enchiladas. He nearly licked the plate clean. The poblano sauce was amazing as was the tinga sauce. Would definitely recommend!! The food was absolutely delicious and with that being said it is going to be more expensive and it's honestly worth it. The portion sizes for the price are great! The service was amazing. There's not even an option for these enchiladas. All good, mistakes happen. Sent them back to receive what I ordered. Waitress never even came to check on us, and so I had to notify a different waiter, who was right on top of it (more to follow on that later). I waited for a while. My friends had pretty much finished their meals. I noticed my correct enchiladas at the window just sitting there. Waitress never grabbed them or bothered to check. She probably didn't even know it was her table's since she never bothered to check on us. Same waiter who helped us before, noticed it was there, noticed the other waitress was not grabbing them (as in stared at her) , and brought them for us. Kudos to that guy. Wish the tip went to him instead of her. This waitress honestly did not even care. Didn't apologize for absolutely anything. I've never had a standoffish/negligent server at this place. I usually end up with the very mediocre margarita pizza. I'm normally pretty satisfied with the Farmer's Table Chain, but I guess the La Mesa location is just not it. I had no issues with the service, but let me just say, we had a ridiculously large piece of melted plastic in our food! Like what? You can see in the initial picture of the avocado toast, it's on the plate before we picked it up to take a better look at it. That's like ridiculously big of a piece of plastic how do you miss it and how do you even let it get in there in the first place? I had no issues with our hostess. She apologized to us, she got the food replaced and she was very attentive. The plastic issue wasn't on her, I believe that's something the kitchen staff should have noticed! That's honestly really unacceptable for a restaurant. I genuinely don't know if I have desire to be back. I'm okay with the Chula Vista location, but Farmers Table is just not top tier for breakfast/brunch.
