The Teacher dedicates about 30 minutes a day to an educational topic in the morning during circle time and then the children are left to essentially teach themselves. We were told there would be 1:1 support but there's a 10-minute reading group with 2-3 kids. There's a floater aid who will spend an absorbent amount of time with some kids but not the kids with neuro challenges that require more guiding. We observed the class with our son and realized none of the accommodations they claimed they were making were being made. Our son was labeled as having "behavior" issues and his teacher sent us daily summaries that was a list of what he didn't accomplish during the day and didn't engage in responses surrounding suggestions, solutions, and problem-solving as a team. Our son was also neglectfully fed documented allergens during a potluck by the school Head Director, Aimee Allen. Jenna - the elementary director is rather brash in her communication style. We sent over our son's IEP from his public school and asked about thoughts and feedback - which was never responded to even when followed up on. Jenna said as an accommodation she'd set our son up with a 2x week 1:1 para-educator and provided us his start date. 3 weeks passed and we hadn't heard any progress reports regarding this. Turns out she never followed through with this plan and failed to notify us. This school was a massive investment and disappointment on all fronts. If your child requires partnership with their teacher and support staff, guidance, and has a neurodivergence I strongly advise you to protect your child and your wallet and veer far away from this place.

My initial thoughts was that it was a small campus but while small, I found the staff and teachers very friendly and the kids were very polite-something I hadn't seen since the last Catholic school the boys attended back in Hawaii. At that point we decided to send the boys there-we just needed to move to GH. After having the boys here for the first year at this school, I am both deeply grateful and highly impressed with the teachers and the staff. Here's why: After 2 yrs in Dupont, my eldest son moved schools 2x-due to the set up of the school district but in both of those cases, he was a B average, though he was an A average in Hawaii. The teachers here truly opened up his aperture to learn and he has taken a 180' turn and made straight A's. My youngest was an average student who had a need for tutoring during his 3rd grade year in Dupont; after his first year at St Nic's, he ended his year with a B+ average and actually remembers and is enthusiastic about learning. The teachers and staff are truly dedicated to their students and are very responsive to the parents. The principal has an open door policy to everyone and does a fantastic job in keeping the parents informed (due to COVID, she's done several Zoom calls). The parents are so warm and inviting. They have a initial new parents' picnic, about the weekend prior to the first day of school. There is also a Facebook group for all the parents that helps all of us stay current on what's going on in the school. They have a lot of events and fundraisers some of which will require parent's involvement, but, that is normal for Catholic schools as they want the parents involved in as many activities as possible. Although I could say more about Saint Nicholas, I encourage you to visit the school, meet the teachers, and judge for yourself. The small class size allows for more teacher/student interaction as well as provides opportunities for more 1-1 instruction if needed. You will not regret the level of education they provide to the students; you will cherish the relationships you will build with the parents, and hopefully, see the value and impact this school will have not only your kids but on you as well.

I and a few others had an unfortunate experience at GHHS with an administrator who illegally kicked people out of school because of their mental health, or because she didn't like them. There is no proof of it happening, because she went against the district guidelines for handling "expulsion" type things. She was discriminatory and two-faced. Two years later after being in a better situation at Henderson Bay, the alternative high school, I felt ok to report what had happened and was essentially brushed off and invalidated. I emailed the Superintendent, at the time knowing she would've cared, only for her to tell me that I should work on that with my teachers in college to ensure that will not happen again. It is unfortunate that unless it is for sports, the district probably won't help you in these complaints. I had some wonderful teachers, and a few were mean, practically bullies to the entire class, blaming them for failing a test after everyone failed, so it was bittersweet. My mind really changed on this school district, after feeling it was good, once I graduated. It feels like they only REALLY care about the kids in sports, the popular kids, and the kids with rich families. Being an adult you really see the reality.

Think hard, don't lie to yourself... Does your child need a bit of support academically? Do you…read morethink they might? Do you want small class sizes? Are they on meds that need to be administered at school? Are they Neurodiverse (Dyslexic, Anxiety, ADHD, Autistic, Dyscalculia, etc.)? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, this school probably isn't for you. We really loved the school when the kid was younger. But, partway through the lower school, supports and amenities suddenly got a lot more scarce! The Middle School is even worse. Were the staff at fault? Usually not. Decisions were made and the kids that needed a bit of help paid the price. There isn't a school nurse. They have remodeled some of the specialist-type classrooms to convert them into classrooms. There has been quite a bit of staff leaving in the last 5 years. There isn't a real 9:1 kid to teacher ratio in practice, they use alternative accounting practices including counting staff members like the librarian (kids see the librarian for an hour or less per week while most teachers rush back to their rooms for preparation time leaving the librarian often alone with the kids). Teacher assistants in the lower school are not necessarily full time and are often pulled from class to cover teachers and things like playground duties. The administration is actively trying to add more students per class, and more classes overall, as all administrators are prone to do. In short, while it is a beautiful school, it isn't for everyone. Try not to be dazzled and ask the hard questions. See if this is right for your family. It is an expensive question to get wrong.

I even feel myself tearing up as I write this review, because I am reflecting on the tremendous love that those in the school have poured out into our children's lives over the years. The current principal has been part of the school for more than 20 years. She began as a teacher and actually taught both of my daughters first and second grade. I have been so blessed to observe her character and wisdom. I call her my "phone a friend", because whenever I can't figure out something with my kids, I know I can always text her or go out for coffee and she will have some tremendous insight for me. She still has multiple former students who invite her to their high school graduations (they all say she has been their favorite all-time teacher). And when she comes, she shows up with a piece of artwork or a paper that they wrote as a young child... framed as a gift for them because she kept it all of those years. And that same spirit of love and support flows throughout this beautiful little school. I could say incredible things about all of the teachers. You also don't find cliques at Hosanna. You find the big kids caring for the little ones and everyone treating each other equally no matter what their differences might be. As a child who was teased growing up, I am so grateful that my children have been part of an environment where the outward things do not matter. And from an academic standpoint, both of my children have flourished. My daughter is now a straight-A student at the high school, taking advanced courses because of the foundation she had in her younger years. In fact, she now has dreams of becoming a teacher. My youngest daughter is also receiving a wonderful education and hopes to become a dentist. Because of the security and freedom they have felt at Hosanna, they have been able to dream big about their futures. I always tell people that Hosanna is not fancy, it's family. This review will be extensively, but I urge you to read it in its entirety. Firstly, I want to say that my wife and I had high hopes for this school when enrolling our three-year-old daughter. My name is Gerry Gordon and I am writing and advocating for my wife and daughter who have been tremendously affected by the misconduct of Annie Wright schools. Secondly, I want to address that due to the numerous accounts of negligence and social injustice my daughter endured I am convinced there is no diversity inclusion training or awareness within the Lower school staff, before and after school staff and its counterparts. Why do I say these things? Here are the things my daughter had to endure in only a 6-month period. Not in any particular order. 1. My daughter got ill with the flu due to the Annie Wrights lack of communication. To expound on this topic, I received an email stating that my daughter was "out of sorts", lethargic and not herself. Still having trust in the educators and nurse at this point, my wife and I took their advice to "monitor" her and check for a fever. We asked their opinion if we should come and they said NO she doesn't have a fever. Mind you we were never called but emailed and who knows how long she was sick. Come to find out she was in the nurse's office for over an hour maybe more. Long story short, my daughter ends up with the flu because I decided to take her to the doctor because the next day she returned to school and got a fever. On multiple occasions, we have seen her outside in the cold without a jacket. WE WERE NEVER CALLED ONCE while she exhibited concerning health signs. The nurse and the teachers refused to call and said email their primary form of contacting parents, even after I BOLDY requested phone calls due to the nature of my job and my wife's schooling. My daughter getting the flu could have been avoided with better communication. Once we gave them the requested doctors note it was questioned by the nurse. There was a lack of empathy and most importantly again we were never called. 2. My daughter was walking around barefoot I'm not sure how long this took place because we were never told or notified. The school requires extra shows and socks and she has rainboots. There is no reason for my child to walk around school for who knows how long without any shows or socks on. Once again it was treated as a simple thing and hardly addressed. 3. My daughter told us she was hit by a door from one of the staff that works directly with her. This concerned us, and we always follow up with the staff when our daughter tells us something. This said the staff has treated my wife and very different when trying to communicate simple things like "good morning". She even said Bria didn't like her for some odd reason. When confronted about the door situation her response we "it was an accident". 4. My daughter went an entire day without eating lunch. This was the final straw for us. I picked my daughter up at 5 pm and the first thing she said to me was "Daddy I didn't eat lunch today". I was concerned but questioned her and she insisted she didn't eat. Upon arriving home, I checked her lunchbox to validate her claim and there was a sticky note on there from her ticker that read, "We still don't have power for our microwave... Likely not tomorrow as well. Thanks!! Mrs. Peterson". This is wrong on so many levels. We never received a phone call so that we could possibly provide another meal. There were so many options that were not explored for my daughter to eat. Heating the meal up in another class. Giving her the paid hot lunch, the school provides and so many others. Instead, her teacher gave her a graham cracker or two and let her watch all the other kids in the class eat their lunch because she was the only one that didn't get a feed that day. Mind you she is the only African American shouldn't in her class, so this is more than just negligence of a child but socially bias behavior. When confronted by my wife, the teacher showed a lack of empathy. She stated, "I didn't think it was that big of a deal". Once my wife explained her distaste for her lack of empathy, I clam but passionate way, the teacher began to weep and blamed it on her being pregnant. Please refer to photos for the rest of my review
