This is for the location at Kennedy & Eglinton. It's a new Bangladeshi place. If you're used to Indian or Sri Lankak food, Bangladeshi food will be a bit milder regarding spiciness, but still has flavour. I have to google what all the dishes are. The apps are a bit on the pricier side, but the mains are well-priced. Apps: It was my first time trying chicken momos, which are spicy dumplings. Really good. I love the tuna kebab, which is flatter than a fish cutlet. The singara, which is like a samosa, was okay, but the dough wasn't cooked through. Main: I've tried several of the meat options, they were all new for me. There's always a thick amount of oil on top, but the masalas are all nice. Mejbani beef curry was spicy and okay. There was a lot of fat left on the meat, so it was a lot less than what it appeared. The Biye Bari chicken roast (curry) was really good. The beef tehari was too mild, not spicy at all. The rice they use here is a short grain rice with a bit of bite, not the basmati I'm used to. So I prefer the rotis. The luchi was great, it's a small poori. Desserts: Looks like homemade desserts. The doi was too salty for me, but my mom loved it. It is fermented yogurt, which tastes like extra salty, concentrated yogurt. Their jalebi was okay, but nothing special. Goat briyani was huge with flavourful rice & boneless tender goat. Moglai was good: fried dough stuffed with egg & meat (it's like the Singaporean dish roti john). Peaju is a fried brown irregularly shaped snack. It was good: crispy, flavourful & rather spicy Khichuri duck had a slightly mushy coating on grains of rice (the lentils in the dish). It was decent. The duck was good - there was a lot of meat (it was meaty for duck) Chicken liver shingara was huge - much bigger than a samosa. It was decent - half potato, half liver. Laddo - an orange speckled ball dessert - was good. Patisapta - white pancake filled with a sweet, thick filling was decent. Bundia was good - sweet lumps. Communication here is inconsistent if you only speak English as not all staff are conversant in it. They only do lassi in summer. Toronto doesn't have the largest Bengali population compared to other metropolis's (e.g New York, London and Los Angeles) but it is definitely a growing sub-culture. Even tho some of the more esteemed "Indian Food" restaurants are Bengali owned and operated (e.g Copper Chimney), they tend to have more generic Indian choices (butter chicken, tikka masala). Items that are known to most people. Gharoa is based in an area which has a high concentration of Bengali's and is one of the few places in this city where the menu is made and catered for authentic bengali food. It is a hole in the wall and the place is usually rammed (they have a giant staff) but the demand is thru the roof. I was lucky enough to get a seat and order some fuchka- which is the bengali take on pani puri. It was delicious. I tried the Haleem and it was very good as well. I must agree with a reviewer from the past. The KACHI biryani was out of this world. I couldnt stop eating, even past the point of my hunger (large portion). I am sold. Ghoroa translates to "like home" and my stomach agree's with that sentiment. read more

We found this place based on a yelp search. Consistent with the other reviews. Super tasty hole in the wall place. Found that a lot of dishes were quite similar to other Indian dishes but spicier. Constant flow of people ordering food. A lot of food for a fair price (all the food in the picture plus 2 chai tea was $25). Enough easily for 3-4 people so are happy to take home leftovers :) read more

If you want to try authentic Bangladeshi food, well then this is the place. A friend who himself is from Bangladesh and owns a restaurant in downtown recommended this place. You do feel like a homely feelings. Food is simple, clean, and very delicious. The only thing I will warn you though are the occasional customers on the phone. On my last visit I overheard a dude's self boasting detailed advise on how to keep ladies happy. I have strong doubts that he was talking to his imaginary friend. ;-) Back to food, this is worth the visit, try one or two pieces of everything- spread your choice range and you will find at least a few winners. read more

This is the first time trying Bangladeshi food. Similar to Indian food in a way but different. I ordered goat and rice combo for take out. When I opened it, I gasped because of the generous amount of rice. There were enough rice for two people for sure. The goat curry was seriously delicious. I've always... ALWAYS bought food from here despite their horrible reviews. I loved their food !!!! Totally reminded me of home but sadly last week was my last purchase from them. I was so disgusted to find a foreign object in my biriyani!!!!!! It was a rubber piece. More specifically the back of an earring. And I WAS CHEWING ON IT WHEN I SPIT IT OUT TO DISCOVER IT TO BE THE RUBBERY PIECE THAT GOES ON THE BACK OF AN EARRING. I literally threw up everything. I still had pulao and roast from them. My ultimate favourite by them but I was so traumatized from that incident I kept thinking I'd find something. Eventually I ate it only cause of how good it was and the fact that I ALWAYS DRIVE AN HOUR AND HALF JUST TO GO TO THEM ONLY TO HAVE THE LADIES BE RUDE AND ROLLING THEIR EYES. My favourite spot to get authentic Bangladeshi food. This restaurant feels like home. It's decorated to mimic a bamboo hut. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. I always go for the kichuri with mangsho (beef curry) and it's always delicious! I would also recommend the singaras. They're the perfect mix between spicy and savoury. Their mango lassi in the summer is the perfect thing to cool you down from the heat! Definitely my favorite spot when I'm in the mood for a home cooked meal. read more

Best authentic Bangladeshi food in the GTA. I was craving home cooked Bangladeshi food and this place did not disappoint.

We first had a taste of Gharoa fish curry at a friend's house and it tasted good. I am from Dhaka and I like the Bangladeshi cooking. So we drove to Toronto from Rochester NY to have some carry our fish curry and also have lunch. We had rui and ilish curry with a fish chop. It was very tasty and fresh. The place is very small and was crowded, however we enjoyed our food very much. We brought Rui, Ilish and rupchand(pomphret) curry and some snacks and we are enjoying it here. Very good banglaseshi cooking. The place is run by all women and they were very friendly and courteous. Will visit again. read more

Worst place ever in Canada! We went there as we were missing deshi food and thought they are like the ghoroa back in Dhaka. Foods quality are below average. Doesn't taste any better. Good for snacks and those who likes to have snacks with tea and have evening hangout like back in Bangladesh. But to me this place is a disaster. No proper order taking.
