From my numerous experiences eating at Bhoj (at Spadina and Bloor), I have come to the conclusion that Bhoj makes the best Indian food in town! Apart from the divine and delicate taste of the wonderful dishes it prepares, I've noticed that it is light on salt and light on oil. After finishing one of their delicious fragrantly spiced meals, you don't feel weighed down or dying of thirst as I often come away feeling after eating at other Indian restaurants. Whether you eat in or take it out, you can always look forward to a joyful feast for the palate and for the soul! And by the way, their chicken dishes are so tender and finger-lickin' good!!!! But then again, everything at Bhoj is to die for. The restaurant itself is very clean, simple and plain in direct contrast to the food which explodes with deliciousness!!! This was a delightful meal, and I ordered the Lamb Thali. The Vindaloo lamb curry had a rich flavor, with the spiciness from the spices and a tangy kick from the vinegar. The accompanying cornmeal porridge, vegetable salad, and Indian yogurt perfectly balanced the curry's heat. The staff was very friendly and clearly explained the differences between the dishes. Yea I found a cockroach in my rice. I had the samosas, the butter chicken and some accompanying naan. The samosas we're flavourless. The butter chicken was ok but way overpriced (I recommend Mother India's Roti instead - quality and a great bang for your buck). And the naan was just dry and way too chewy. This is our go to place for take out. We live close by. The flavor is incredible and you can taste the spices. A must order is: Bhoj special butter chicken and garlic and green chilli naan. We absolutely love the Naan! For someone who enjoys spicy food the lamb vindaloo had just the right amount of spiciness. We also tried Lamb Seekh Kebab and Tandoori Chicken were tasty as well. This place has two solid things going for it - take out and customer service. As a large group, I always wonder how a small space is able to execute a generally take your time cuisine. I can say, for the most part the Indian food we ordered lacked the depth of flavour familiar to most Indian spots I've experienced here. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, palak paneer and lamb biryani The onion bhaji- a deep fried appetizer was the highlight. Crispy and flavourful. The naans were good. The masala tea which took time to prepare had no spices we were anticipating. We ordered in total 3 cups and the resounding review of it was steeped orange pekoe. However all that being said, the customer service was endearing. She always checked on us. Though forgetful and somewhat all over the place she was so friendly. We were deciding between a couple of Indian restaurants for dinner and based on the reviews we chose Bhoj. For an appetizer we ordered the chaat papri which was delicious and enough to share betwen the three of us. For mains we had butter chicken, dal maharani, and tandoori shrimp. We also ordered garlic naan, butter naan, and a side of rice. The best dish for me was the butter chicken. Not watery or bland but really rich and flavourful. The tandoori shrimp was my second favourite, although a little bit more expensive (it came with 4 really big shrimps). Then the dal maharani was last - not bad but nothing spectacular. The naan was really good - for the slightly cheaper price I'd stick with the butter naan instead of the garlic naan. Overall it was a really good meal - atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and the service was great. Glad we tried it! read more

This is a tiny place in an unlikely location on a busy street. It only seats about 22 diners and appears to do a good takeout business. I ordered the lunch special, advertised on a chalkboard on the curb - 2 curries, rice, naan, salad, dessert.It was priced at whatever curry I chose from the menu. The other curry was the chef's choice. I found that a bit odd. Suppose I was served something that I'm allergic to or don't like? I wasn't offered a choice or asked for a preference. Luckily, the chef chose chickpeas to go with my choice of butter chicken. I found the chicken a bit salty and the chickpeas lacking salt. Mixed together, it was balanced. We ordered delivery on Friday night around 4:30. We live about a 5 min drive so the delivery fee was $3. It was a bit awkward ordering, I couldn't find anywhere on their site to order online or through a delivery app, the only option was to call. They preferred I pay in cash (offering a 10% discount) but unfortunately I didn't have enough cash on me. They do thankfully take credit card. I was quoted 30 min for delivery, however, the food arrived much earlier than expected which was a nice surprise. I believe the delivery person was the same person I had talked to on the phone (very friendly) but made me wonder if they could handle a busy night. We ordered pakora, a curry dish, the lamb biryani and naan. The two main dishes by themselves would have been enough for us to share, the portion sizes are quite large. This feast was delicious and I appreciated when they asked what spice level I wanted that the food was actually spicy. We will definitely order again and hope to visit in person. read more

We came here for dinner recently and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food here. The vegetables and curry were really tasty, and the naan was nice and fresh. Our only complaint is that there was no music in the restaurant, so the place was sooooo quiet and it became very awkward to have a conversation without the next table hearing everything. Also, to this point, the bathrooms are located right next to the dining tables. No music, thin walls, and a bathroom stall right next to the dining tables... well you can figure out what the problem is here. It wasn't very pleasant. I'd recommend getting takeouts from here since the food was so tasty, and I hope the restaurant turns on some music! read more

Great use and balance of spices. Veg dishes are complex, colourful, light and satisfying. This place fucks. It's truly melancholounous that I live 20 meters from it. Came here during my birthday as I always choose Indian for my choice of bday meal if I can. Their stuffed cheesy naan is delicious. Quite filing so one is enough to go with your curry choice. I asked for extra spicy masala chicken and they did a good job getting the spice right with still being flavourful. Service can be improved by being more speedy. Very expensive with the average quality. I order Butter chicken with plain rice to go. They charged me $21.53 which is a lot for a plate of butter chicken. Didnt check my reciet until i got home. Honestly, butter chicken is one of the easiest dish in Indian foods. I was wondering if i would dined in and also paid for tip then I would end up paying $24 which is crazy. With $21 the one can eat in a fine dinning in a high quality restaurant. I cannot understand why the butter chicken stew can cost $15??! And i was thinking, for $15 the meal would come with rice too because $15 shouldnt be just for a stew!! When i arrived home and checked my recoeit it turns out that was just for the stew. They charge you seperatly for rice for $4. Not to mention that the quality of the plain rice was very low and the butter chicken was just okay nothing especial. I have had food from Bhoj twice now. The first time the food was great, it all came out quickly and the flavones were fantastic. This was about a week after they had opened. My second time with Bhoj, I was so terribly disappointed. I ordered UberEATS (and yes I know delivery is never going to be as good as when you receive the food fresh) and each of the dishes were lacking, we had saag paneer, daal, butter chicken, as well as basmati rice, garlic naan, and the vegetarian sampler platter. This is essentially what we had ordered the first time, only this time there was a layer of grease on top of each dish (about 3 centimeters). I was definitely repulsed, but still thought that the flavors could be there, honestly who doesn't love some grease now and then, I won't be deterred by that. However this time there was basically no flavor. About 2 pieces of paneer in the saag paneer, the daal was overly salted and yet lacked flavor. I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately after such a poor experience I can't say I do. read more

This was a planned visit as I was going to be in the area. I have been exploring the spots in this locality lately so a recommendation from two friends moved this spot up the ladder. The place is cozy for starters and the interior is to the point. They do take reservations though on the day we went it seemed like the evenings are geared towards take out. The menu is well laid out IMO with section dedicated to appetizers, vegetarian dishes, curries, grilled items and desserts. My DCs who had been here before recommended the Bhoj special butter chicken (I kind of dread the butter chicken as one rarely gets a decent one) and the chicken tikka. I added a papri chat appetizer as well as had built an appetite after a long day. I spotted a lacha pratha a not so common bread so ordered it as well with garlic naan and rice. The papri chat is decent would fix a quick snack fix. Decent version of this app. Now for the mains I am glad we ordered medium spicy as the flavor got a chance to bloom and I expect this level of spice from the dishes of this region. The butter chicken: the sauce was good and not the watery kind one gets at most places. Smooth yet flavorful. I ended up mopping the sauce of with bread. Chicken tikka: they used white meat here but it was cooked properly. Well marinated so nice soft and juicy and not overcooked as in most cases. It comes on a sizzling platter of onions. I think we have a winner here for this cuisine and at this price point in this area worth a repeat visit. read more

Hard to believe that this very unassuming restaurant is just a few blocks from trendy Yorkville where the prices are sky high. We saw a review as we were in the area for the annual Jazz Festival. The space has a few tables and the entrance is mostly for pick up and take out orders. The menu is substantial and the food is delicious! We were pleasantly surprised as we eat south Asian food fairly often. The breads were well prepared and very flavorful - garlic naan and onion kulcha. We had chicken korma, aloo gobi, tandoori chicken and each of them was so well done, spiced to our request- medium- and tasted like you were eating in a friend's home. Would recommend to anyone in that area or looking for an authentic meal. Good selection of beers and the meal ended with home made rice pudding - on the house!! read more

I chose mild medium, but could've gone medium on the special butter chicken. It's got some cream so it's not spicy. Server was very nice and helpful. Food is 5 stars but the lunch tray was a bit odd. The restaurant is tucked behind the Yorkville / Yonge-Bloor area on Davenport. Take out seems to be thriving. The food is pretty good, but not terrific value for money. For the neighbourhood, it is not a bad option though. Lunch is probably a much better time to visit the restaurant, but also keep in mind that the dining room is quite small. Food was good but waitstaff service was sub-par. For example, when asked for a spoon they brought us a small spoon without taking note of that we were still eating our mains and might prefer big spoons for rice. Forgot to put in the order for our veg sampler appetizers. Also had no concept of idea that people usually only get 1 hour lunch from offices in the area, so the food was prepared with a much later delivery timeline than that is preferred for a lunchtime meal. Food was very good although a bit confusing to order in that their specials and thalis weren't listed on the menu or as an insert in the menu. I am still not sure which I actually got and whether I got everything that was listed. Waitstaff also didn't have the decency to treat utensils with respect. Instead of placing them on a serviette, she placed them on the tablecloth even though there was a placemat AND a serviette on the table that she could have put this on. Also when my lunch friend didn't tip, (because of above service notes), she assumed I wouldn't either even though it was separate checks and I usually pity-tip in such situations around 5%. She denied me the opportunity to tip at all! No complaints about the food and it's taste once it got to our table though. read more

This was my favorite Indian place to go during covid. They stayed open, and they served delicious food. I honestly can't say enough great things about them. The staff are all very friendly. I tried the vegetarian appetizer platter, with pakoras and samosas, and enjoyed it immensely. The cheese naan was the highlight of the night for sure. I live in Yorkville and have eaten at pretty much every restaurant in the area. As one would expect in an neighborhood that is frequented by many tourists, both local and out of country, the dining experience is very hit and miss. You certainly don't always get better food for more money. There are lots of "tourist traps" such as Nervosa, One, and Oxley. But Bhoj is an exception. It's not the fanciest place but the food and the people are the best in the neighborhood. The curry, the tandoori vegetable platter, etc. etc. I have not had a single dish here that didn't knock my socks off. I really like Indian food so I eat it a lot, and the one thing that really impresses me about Bhoj is that they have dishes so different than the "typical" that I have never tasted before. So unique. So delicious. I think they do more business with take-out and delivery than in the dining room. There is literally a constant stream of Uber Eats people at the door. And I can understand why. I can't say enough about this place. And the prices are very reasonable. And the waitress is so sweet and friendly. Yelp had good reviews of this Indian Restaurant so I had to give it a try. It is very close to me, so I was very interested in giving it a try. We were very excited because as we approached it smelled AMAZING. It is a quiet neighborhood place near Yorkville. We tried the butter chicken speciality that they had. It was great! Downside: We ordered 3 entrees and the didn't come with anything to put the butter chicken over. There was no rice, or bread served. We had some naan that we had ordered as an appetizer but the waitress advised that it doesn't typically come with anything. We requested a bowl of rice that we shared between the three of us.
