I'm a huge fan of ghost tours, so when I planned my recent trip to Charleston, I knew I had to book one. I've done a few tours in the city before and always have a blast, even if some stories repeat. This time I tried the Death and Depravity Ghost Tour. I can't remember our guide's name, but she was great. Super funny and really knowledgeable. The group was great too. We had a lot of fun chatting about the stories. That said, I felt like some of the stories were a little mild for a tour with such a dark name. Maybe I've just done too many of these tours. Still, it was a fun night and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves a good ghost story. read more

Totally worth the legthy read! DO NOT GO!! (*update: The company wouldn't even bother to email or comment. Wish they stood behind their customer service as much as they do their 'no refund policy'....worst customer service I've ever experienced) It was chaotic from the beginning. He was fumbling on his phone, once he/they got everything together the other guide and group take off (with a lantern, which made it creepier (better) and we instantly wished we had that guide). Our guide just stood and talked at us for about 10 mins. We finally get moving (he has a cell phone & flash light) only to walk 5 mins and then stop and stand in a single file line for 30 mins while we are only hearing about the history rather than ANYTHING creepy...we all start getting antsy and hot and wanting to move. Finally, we start walking again, only to walk for 2 minutes and then he proceeds to tell us to all sit on this half-wall and preach at us about the history of Charleston again (which we took a history tour earlier that day so this was hearing everything for the 2nd time that day). We all felt like we were children on on a field trip the way he kept lining us up. At this point, were already an hour in and have only moved once and heard NOTHING ghostly yet. People start questioning him..."are we going to hear anything creepy?" "When are we gonna walk?" "I thought this was supposed to be and 'edgier/scarier' version of an actual ghost tour" "Can't we at least see a cemetery or something?" He pulled out his phone and was showing us this old school syringe that really had nothing to do with anything...?? We ended calling an Uber to come pick us up and left (we were a group of 7) and the other group of 5 left as well. It was so disappointing that his entire group left. Which, I feel bad for him but it really was that disappointing And I don't want to add insult to injury but our guide (who was dressed kind of like a pirate ) stunk pretty bad. Everytime he would walk down the line in front of us we would have to turn our noses the other way or pull our shirt up over our noses. Also, we saw the other group walking past us (with a lantern) twice as we stood in the same spot. It also helps the "vibes" if the guides speak lower/slower/creepier tone but he was very animated, lots of jokes, high energy so it took away from the atmosphere/vibe Again, my husband and I have been on quite a few of these tours and have never had a bad experience. The tour only lasted 40 minutes and the majority of content was the guide showing fuzzy, filtered images from his phone with disjointed, illogical storylines to follow. For example, at the Chalmer street stop, he claimed it was the most haunted street in Charleston then spent about a minute digging through his phone, claiming to find a scary story. The story told was that a woman once saw three orbs in a picture that were not there in real life. That was the extent of the story and he didn't even have the picture to accompany the story. When discussing the Ravenel daughter and Edgar Allen Poe, he referred to the woman by three different names and could not remember the name of the poem written about her, which luckily someone in the group knew to be Annabel Lee. I'd expect better training prior to allowing someone to run a tour group. This was not worth a single dollar spent on this tour. read more

Went on the death and deprecation tour. The description does not at all match the tour. You walk throughout the streets of charleston don't go into any museums or houses. Just walked on sidewalk..Tour guide -Dawson was also a little rude, if you like Dry humor this guy is definitely for you but if not don't recommend. Book Bulldog Tours instead. We signed up and paid for a tour but Ghost City Tours cancelled the tour without notifying us. We came to Charleston to do a ghost tour and ended up wasting time waiting around for no one to show up. When we called customer service, the person we spoke to was rude, dismissive, and said she forgot to tell us the tour was cancelled because she was busy. She also told us we were the only ones signed up for the tour, so it doesn't sound like it would have been difficult to let us know it was cancelled. Absolutely terrible customer service. read more

We had a great ghost tour with Lance as our guide. It's kind of luck of the draw when it comes to guides for these types of tours. You never know who you'll get or how they'll be. Lance was funny. Like a tame white Richard Pryor telling ghost stories. When I've done ghost tours in other cities (*cough* Savannah) those tours have been more creepy, however Lance had us cracking us the entire time which I thoroughly enjoyed. Best tour in Charleston. We enjoyed the tour ONLY because of our tour guide LANCE. We learned a few interesting things which also made it enjoyable. I'd say the price was a little high for what we actually did though. Do not spend your money here!!!!. first impression..:when we check in...the guide says if you need to go to the bathroom do it now...since we had 15 minutes before start i decided to go just precautionary. Needless to say the nearest bathroom is down the street. I run back with 5 minutes to spare and the tour left...our guide says sorry you can catch the next group. So we did. And it was awful. Our guide made a ghost tour into a joke tour every step of the way. There was no Spookey stories...no exploring haunted spaces.. no interesting stories! Last night, April 24, 2021 we went on our ghost tour. This company is amazing as our scheduled ghost tour was actually two days before. We called the company and they answered the phone right away. We told them that our Lyft driver was running late. The helper on the phone gave us a few options, one was try to come on time and catch up with the tour; two, to reschedule; and three, if we were unable to make this tour within our vacation time span, they would give us a never expiring rain check. Well we thought we were going to make it but our Lyft driver canceled and there was no way we were going to make our previously scheduled tour. Thank goodness this is a rain or shine event, because the only other day was during a rain storm. My husband and I both figured that the rain would add to the ambience of ghosts and the Haunted. Our tour guy was with Lance, accompanied by his brother, and we were lucky enough to be the only two on this tour! We were called and given the option to move to a different group but my husband and I thought a private tour would be extra special and after all we were here also celebrating our 10th anniversary! We felt like we were set up on a personalized planned date with the show the bachelorette/ bachelor (as you might see in the show with extravagant dates that show has). Lance was very friendly, each story he told of the history was told with great enthusiasm. His jokes were funny, and he held himself in a really fun, light, easy going, professional manner! He took us to places known as Dual's alley, we went to the church where there was the dead bride, we heard the most interesting story about the early life and early love of Edgar Allan Poe, and much more! Just walking the streets with explained history was a delight for both of us. I do highly recommend this tour and the I highly recommend the tour guide Lance! read more

This tour is an absolute scam-- find another company to book a tour through. The guide didn't tell us any scary stories and every place he took us to you could not hear anything he said. It was like he was talking from a script he didn't really know and there was nothing interesting about it. We actually walked into one of the bars and one of the staff members said, "here comes 10 dumb people!" We stuck it out and made the best of it but it was a waste of our time and money. The company is also terrible and doesn't care about our experience on the tour. Find another company! read more

We signed up, paid for a tour, and our tour guide was nowhere to be found when we arrived at the location and time we were given. We called their Customer Service multiple times. The people we spoke to told us they couldn't locate our guide and then refused us a refund. We expect the guide just decided to no-show and the company doesn't want to be held accountable. Be warned there is no accountability for the guides or the company as a whole. If your tour guide chooses not to show (or as they suspected, starts the tour 30 mins early without the whole party), you're out of luck and money. Charleston Haunted Pub Crawl is not recommended. You go to three bars: one is next door to some "haunted" 3rd floor of a building, another bar is 6 blocks away from another "haunted" site (so why did we go to that bar?) and the 3rd-I can't remember, was totally checked out at that point. The tour is mostly just sitting at bars unrelated to the actual "haunted" sites and the guide telling a few ghost stories. You don't go into any buildings or rooms or cemeteries, etc. The tour was pretty lame. read more

They were nasty during booking and now as we didn't go with them for the tour because of the terrible customer service, they won't honor a refund even though we didn't go.
