Our tour guide was Liz Legare Duren and she was superb. I had read a lot about Charleston but her personal connection to the town as a many generation resident was something you can't get from books. She really brought many aspects to life both about the city's history and life there today. We had questions about preservation and the like, and she has the detailed knowledge to answer them all. The tour guide, Randi, did a great job talking about the different ghost stories and haunted places we pasted and had personal experience having grown up in Charleston. The tour starts about down on the water and you wonder through the city for about 90 minutes to different locations where the group stops and the guide talks. Be prepared with good shoes and a flash light and/or cellphone with light! The tour ends in the Unitarian cemetery, which is not landscaped at all, so grass and weeds are growing everywhere and there is no lights! ***we did this tour at the end of June and it was SO HOT! There was little to no breeze and I think we would have enjoyed it more if the weather hadn't been unbearable. I went on a ghost tour last night with Mr. Neale and a few teenagers. I had an absolute blast! The folks at Buxton Books were SO helpful in getting me set up, and even let me use their bug spray (highly recommend). The tour ended in the Unitarian graveyard, and I found out later that all of the pictures I took inside the graveyard (and only those) were BLURRY. I'm honestly still freaked out. With so many to choose from, I scoured reviews and settled on The Ghosts of Charleston Tour through Tour Charleston...and I'm SO HAPPY that we did! "Guide" is not the right word for Simon, for it doesn't encompass the depth of what he does. Simon took us on a journey! The way he incorporates ghost stories with poetry, historical facts and personal anecdotes is mesmerozing! It is clear that Simon not only loves what he does, but works diligently to make sure each tour takes his visitors on a quest back in time. Having lived in Charleston for several decades and knowing quite a bit about local history I'm always apprehensive when going on any tour in the area. There's nothing worse than being on a tour where the guide is giving false information and embellishing stories for entertainment purposes! My wife and I wanted to take a tour before moving out of state and I heard good things about Tour Charleston, LLC so we decided to go with their Ghosts of Charleston Tour. When we arrived for the tour a good size group had gathered. We didn't have to wait long before our guide showed up to get the tour started. As we walked the streets of Charleston our guide told spooky tales with great enthusiasm and even tied in some not-so-spooky local history about the places we passed along the way, which was appreciated. The guide was very personable, engaged everyone in conversation between stops and was able to answer questions from the group about the area. In all, I was quite happy with our choice of Tour Charleston, LLC for our last outing before our move. Could not have been worse. From the confusion in the book store getting people registered and assigned to groups that left us setting out 15 minutes late to the absolutely ludicrous accent and outfit of our guide, this was the worst tour I've ever been on. As a group of 20 walking through narrow streets/alleys, only the people immediately behind the guide heard anything he said until the group stopped at one of the three designated areas. This turned out to be a good thing, because the guides "act" was terrible. In short, it was so awful that my group of five left when the tour proceeded to the next location. read more

Earlier in the day we went on a carriage ride tour which was very broad then on the ghost tour we got more in depth details about things they mentioned.
