What you get when you bottle your own is definitely one of a kind, they were pouring the first Elijah Craig rye while I was there. Also, this place is beautiful and you have to visit the bar upstairs after your tour. Completely worth it. However, the bourbon bubble is over for now. Less people drinking and willing to pay secondary prices. Furthermore, a lot of us have gotten pretty smart watching YouTube and reading about this amazing brown elixir. So, the 51% corn and new oak barrel stuff can probably be dropped, but tell me what is special about my choices. I also asked our friendly tour guy if HH was bringing back the 12 year age statement on the Elijah Craig and he responded 12 years? (A few years ago EC dropped the age statement, because bourbon was being sold so fast, they had difficulty obtain older bourbon for this brand). My point is be unique, tell me something that we don't know, what is HH doing to deal with the change in the bourbon trend, what is the new thing in bourbon. Take a tour of Wild Turkey Russel Reserve tour, they did it right.

I called just before 4 pm and the man said I would make the last tour. I was the only one but how sweet to let me go through. Malory was my guide and she did an excellent job. She was probably surprised at all the notes I was taking. I even had to have her spell some of the words. It is a little scary when you go to the door in the side of a mountain and it is pitch black. You only have to walk a few feet and then you enter another door to the cave. It can get cold and drops do fall on you so wear appropriate clothing or hats. You also have to go down (I think she said 73 steps) and the stairs are narrow. Wear good tennis shoes or boots. Very interesting cavern and this was my first. Interesting fact: Squire Boone is buried in the cavern. Truth and interesting story as to why. There are a lot of things to do but because I came late and spent an hour on the tour all the other shops were closed down. There is a large gravel parking lot, so you park wherever. They have animals you may feed too. This is at least a two-three hour visit, so get there by noon. I visited May 31, 2023. $24 entrance

For future readers, you'll recall that the spring of 2021 was a crazy time, coming off all the COVID lockdowns. Many distillers, who hadn't been open for tours for many months, were finally opening their doors, and demand for tours and tastings far exceeded availability. Tommy apparently has a few connections, and was able to get us the Connoisseur's Tasting at Heaven Hill, and the full tour and tasting at Maker's Mark. The experience was great: The van was large and comfortable, and Tommy--locally raised--knows the area, it's history, and plenty about the distilleries. In addition to the planned stops, he also made an unscheduled stop at the tiny Limestone Branch Distillery so we could taste some craft cocktails and buy some souvenirs. Bottom line: If you love bourbon, and you're looking for a relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable afternoon in the heart of bourbon country, you will not go wrong with Tommy and CopperTop Tours.

5 stars isn't enough for Kentucky Bourbon Boys…read more We packed an unbelievable amount into two days without ever feeling rushed or stressed. Day one included Whiskey Thief, Woodford Reserve, and Buffalo Trace. Day two took us through Bardstown Bourbon Company, Maker's Mark, and Heaven Hill. Every stop offered something completely different, and the lunches planned in advance were outstanding. The weather was perfect, but the real difference-maker was our driver and guide, Jeff Ramsey. Jeff was knowledgeable, funny, professional, always on time, and genuinely made the trip memorable. We do a lot of tours and experiences like this, and Jeff was simply the best guide we've had anywhere. Everything was seamless from start to finish. I won't book with any other group for future Bourbon Trail trips.

It's a ropes course, and the course is pretty small, and you're not really going into the cavern, which is a bummer. They do have a separate zipline tour, which is maybe more adventurous, but I wouldn't know because we didn't do that one. The ropes course is for ages 5 and older. Louisville Mega Cavern also offers a walking cavern tour and a tram tour, plus a drive-through Christmas lights display around the holidays. Be sure to book your activities in advance! This place is very popular and gets very busy. One thing to note is that outside food and drink are supposedly not allowed. (Oops, my bad. I didn't find that out until I had finished my tasty little tuna-and-crackers snack.) They also have lockers to put your things in if you don't have someone hanging back at the tables to hold your stuff.
