EP is such a place to get authentic and organic products w/o all the bells & whistles of pretty packaging. It's just really good stuff!! When I tell you no one there gives a crap, believe it. This place has been around 40+ years!!! And u can tell. There is and always has been a type of air that is given off by the employees when you enter. It's as if, 'you should know what's in here and what it's for and how to use it already... and if you don't... ah well'. I get and can't appreciate the hands off approach. I hate nothing more than a pushy salesperson. That's not what's happening in here. It's more of an indifference to anything. This go around, as has always happened here, I had a few questions. The employees seem out off by having to stop looking in their phones to actually answer a question. So after the eye roll and the sigh, I ask... and as is always the case, the question is replied to with complete indifference ['If you want it, get it. If you don't... cool... but put it back where u got it. I ain't movin']. That's always been my 'turn off' w/ this place since I started going in the 90s. Sadly, EP has been one of the only stalwarts that has stood the test of time in the area. Granted, they have good genuine products in stock. Fantastic body oils, tinctures, lotions, soaps, incense, teas, fabrics, art, sculptures a literal library of wonderful Afro centric literature, etc... it's all there. And if it isn't, they can prob get it for you. But it's the 'indifference' for me. I'm sure it works for them bc they've been the same way for 20+ years. While the price points may be a lil higher than expected, taking into account that they are a specialty shop catering to a a specific need/ demographic, the pricing is definitely justified - especially in this market w/ so many businesses closing. I do hope EP stays around for a long time to come. I just wish the employees gave just an iota about what they're selling in the shop (lower level).

These are the scents you'll be choosing from in the class. The candles are made upstairs. You'll see a sign directing you up there, OR somebody will come down and ask you to wait until some people leave. They book back to back, so people are always coming and going. The two employees stayed busy the whole time we were there. I gotta give them props! It's BYOB so make sure you bring something to sip on while you're making candles. They do provide glasses or you can bring your own. Once upstairs you'll choose your vessel (which style of candle do you want to make). Then you'll choose your scent. They had fall scents when we went. You can mix two scents, but they explain the pros and cons of that. AND you can choose your ratio. Then, you can choose a color if you'd like. I won't go into everything because they'll walk you through it. It's pretty straight up. It was a fun experience. You can even title your candle. They'll provide a label and colored pencils. You can place the label on the side or top. Pretty cool. Lastly, you'll have to come back a minimum of 24-hours later. It needs to set. I've had mine home and got around to burning it. I was hoping the scent would be stronger (or that I could at least smell it). Perhaps my mix settled or something. I'll update this review if I find the scent stronger as I burn it. That's the main thing I search for in a candle; one that burns as strong as it smells. Still, it was something different to do.

She absolutely loved the experience. The establishment was beautifully tucked away in the Clipper Mill area of Baltimore. Letta was super amazingly nice and educated on the health risks associated with typical candles. She spent time educating the attendees and showing us how to create our masterpiece candles. The shop was cute with lots of things to purchase like candles, car scents, room sprays, diffuser and more! We spent a little over an hour chatting, giggling & making our signature candles. This company is going out of business and having a sale to reduce their inventory. This is…read moreobviously why they don't care about how they treat customers, although they will be open for several more months and are still encouraging sales. I placed an order for purple tile and was sent a pale green tile. I sent a polite inquiry that it seemed I had been sent the wrong product. They asked me to send a photo of what I received, so I did. At this point, Kathy told me I "must be color blind", they don't even sell a light green tile like in the photo I sent (although she went on to describe said tile so she was obviously familiar with the light green tile). Kathy was very rude and I asked if they didn't sell me this green tile, then who put it in the box and shipped it to me? Either way it wasn't the purple tile I had ordered. I gave them 3 options for resolving the issue. Replace with correct product, refund, or replace with another purple tile similar to what I had ordered. Kathy responded that since I did not want to resolve this issue (!?) she was just going to refund my money. Below is the purple tile on their website that I ordered, and the pale green tile I received. So no, I'm not color blind.
