On one of my many trips back home for the month long birthdays I had to attend I needed to stop and pick up a gift card or two. That is basically why I stopped here. Honestly, I had no idea that Giant Eagle reached this far. I was shocked when I found one in Bedford, PA, but for one to be here, it threw me. This Giant Eagle is part of a larger plaza, I guess you can say that it is the anchor as it is by far the biggest retailer in the plaza. Parking is ample and can make for a quick entry/exit. Inside it is well organized and everything appeared to be stocked. I didn't look around too much as my mind was on gift cards only. I went straight to that area and started to browse. I have to say, they had a fine selection of gift cards and made choosing one a bit hard. I circled the display a few times before honing in on one section and then stayed there for a few good minutes having an inner debate on which gift card would be most appropriate. Definitely better places to spend your money on groceries. I'm not from around here, but having spent 2 weeks here and many weeks over the course of the last 15 years visiting my in-laws, I've had a chance to visit the local grocery stores. This one is right on the Golden mile so it's super convenient, but it's also really hard to get to when you're not already stuck in traffic. The interior is huge and the selection seems large, but it looks ill-kept and the workers weren't super friendly. The flowers I purchased rang up incorrectly and instead of taking my word for it, the worker had me march over to the flower display with her for me to point out their "everyday price" that wasn't even a sale, but rang up $2 more. The flowers were beautiful and a decent price, so I guess that's definitely worth a star or two, but when we walked back, the cashier started yelling at a lady who now took over my register and charged more to my tab-- that could've been eliminated, but that's how it went. Made me feel a bit weird having to barter for the everyday price and it also smells terrible, like another person mentioned-- like fish or something unpleasant. read more

I've gone to all the major grocery chains in Frederick, and this is my favorite. Most items here are reasonably priced, including the fruits, vegetables, meats, and seafood. This Giant Eagle likely has the freshest fruit and vegetables at the lowest price in all of Frederick, and I get mostly all my produce here. They have high quality items in every department. The only caveat is that their selection appears limited to me. It would be better if they had more variety to choose from. This store could really benefit from a fish fry service at their seafood counter. Hopefully they start such a service. The sushi is pretty good, and I have yet to try the catfish that I was oh so tempted to buy the last time around. Nice store, nice people, nice food, but could benefit from greater variety. read more

I have one criticism for GE. This grocery store, to my knowledge, is the only one that doesn't have hand baskets or small carts for their customers. I've seen elderly people lugging these large carts through the store. Come on, guys! Get some hand baskets and small carts. Spend some bread on your loyal customers! read more

Giant Eagle is a wonderful place! I like to think of it as the working man's Whole Foods. No knock on Whole Foods, but honestly a weeks worth of groceries should be my whole paycheck. Giant Eagle has great prices and the knock 20 cents off of every gallon of gas for every 50 bucks you spend. In this day and age that can really add up for all of you commuters out there. I will get around to reviewing the 7th street location at a later date. It is actually closer to my house, but I come to this one because of the organic food selection. Otherwise they are even in my mind. Of all of the places you could shop for groceries in the Frederick area, this is my choice! read more

Fuel perks are awesome! I buy all My gift cards here to get more perks and fried chicken is great!! I usually have great friendly service only once or twice was it the lunch meat ladies that were so rude to me. I just killed them w kindness, but it was a huge turnoff compared to Rest of staff. Some young ones work in fried chicken area and can also not be the most friendly but ah not a big deal I guess. I spend a bunch of money here feeding five kids and a husband. Purchased Thanksgiving meal due to recent surgery and inability to cook. The meal was prepared (heated) exactly as prescribed. It was absolutely awful, mashed potatoes, actually mushy potatoes, the french style green beans were extra mushy...cranberry relish was jello with a few cranberries and walnuts added, the dressing was dry and tasteless. The rest was disgusting and not appealing for consumption. Will NEVER again order Thanksgiving dinner from Giant Eagle. A waste of $$$$. read more

Contrary to popular belief, I really don't like to complain but there are so many businesses out there run by idiots, I feel compelled. First off let me say that Giant Eagle is by no means a bad supermarket. Their produce department is top-notch. They also have a wide variety of products at decent prices. It's just certain store policies that just make you want to scratch your head. For instance, in order to use the automatic scanners, you must apply for a Giant Eagle card. This is the only supermarket chain that makes such a requirement. They only just recently allowed you to enter your phone number should you forget or lose your card. Prior to that, you had to queue up at customer service and order a new card. Kind of defeats the purpose of saving time by using the auto scanner doesn't it? The card clips onto your keychain. Most stores give you a card you can carry in your wallet. I own two cars. My second set of keys doesn't have an advantage card. No problem, I'll just order a new one on the Giant Eagle website, right? Wrong. The only way you can order a new card is over the phone. This way you get to wait on hold for 40 minutes while customer service attends to other customers....Smart. Again I don't mean to complain, but it just comes down to common sense. P.S. I agree with you, Angela. Where are all the damn hand baskets? read more

Ugh. Everything a grocery store shouldn't be: no hand baskets, not enough checkouts open...oh wait, plenty of self-checkouts, but you can't use those if you don't have their card. I love spending 14 minutes in line waiting to purchase 3 items, only to be "greeted" by a surly cashier who is just as unhappy about said lines. Giant Eagle is my favorite grocery store in the Frederick area. They aren't the cheapest, but cooking and eating the right food are extremely important to me and they have everything that I'm looking for. Their meat and seafood selection is fantastic. It's the main reason that we come here. Everyone is very knowledgeable and can give you recommendations for substitutions if what you are looking for isn't available (which is rarely the case). The experience of the staff and the personalized service feels like you're at a neighborhood butcher shop. I like their produce section; they usually have the more "atypical" items like dandelion greens, celery root and lemongrass, they have a pretty good selection of organic produce and they make a point of carrying local produce when it's in season. Their cheese selection is fantastic and the people selling it REALLY love to tell you about it. I've learned a lot of information about cheese and discovered some great cheeses from the people working this section. Their international section is also good and although their organic and "health food" section is small, it has great products like all of the Bob's Mill grains and mixes as well as frozen and dry Kashi products. I like the Golden Mile location better than the 7th Street location. I'm not sure why. The parking lot on Patrick gets a little crazy, but the aisles seem wider and the 7th Street location doesn't seem to have all of the same products (e.g. Patrick St has a bigger "Better Than Bouillon" selection). I guess the 7th Street location is just smaller overall...Oh, and the 20 cents off per gallon of gas at GetGo for every $50 you spend is a huge selling point for me. The only thing that I don't like is something that I've just noticed recently. It may have been happening all along, but there were three things that caught my attention this weekend that kind of bother me: 1. They had chicken marked down for quick sale because it was getting ready to expire. On all the normal packages the price per pound was $4.99. They jacked the original price of the quick sale meat up to something like $5.45 and then changed the "new" price to $4.99 to make it look like you're getting a good deal. 2. They had lean ground turkey for $4.99 per pound, with the price prominently displayed. Under it was EXTRA lean (all white meat) turkey with no prominent price displayed so you just assume it's also $4.99. I knelt down and saw that there WAS a price for the extra lean, but it was tilted backwards so you couldn't see it without really looking and it was at least a dollar more per pound. 3. We like preservative free bacon (it just tastes better). Their selection includes Coleman and a couple of other name brand "natural" meats along with Giant Eagle's brand. GE was the only one without a price listed, but it's store brand, so you would assume that it's the cheapest. At check-out we discovered that it was actually more expensive than any of the name brands. I've always heard that grocery stores make very little profit overall (compared to clothing, electronics and other retail); something ridiculous like 3-4 cents on the dollar. I know they need to scrape for pennies to make a profit anywhere they can, but I just don't like the sneakiness and I wonder in what other ways are they doing it? read more

I have went to this Giant Eagle numerous of times. I use this one because it's close to me. But never again. I have gotten over charged two times and they tried to argue with me telling me that my card was declined. I guess it would decline after the cashier keep canceling the order it tells me on pin pad approved. Then the manager's would not allow me to take my groceries kept saying they didn't get paid. It was $220.00 in groceries. So with that said I will go the Giant Eagle on 7th Street. Plus the management there is very rude. So if you shop there I suggest to use cash. read more

My go to grocery store in Frederick. I can generally find everything I need here, even organic and natural products. I think the meat and fish sections could be improved. I would like more environmental information about the fish I am buying. They do not have a ton of natural meat options, but they do carry Bell & Evans chicken. They have an excellent cheese section. read more

This place has gone downhill. It all started with them discontinuing their food perks. And the produce has sky rocketed. They got rid of a lot of good brands. Their self checkouts need updated. I am used to GE in Pittsburgh and Ohio. It's a shame this store has gone to doo doo. read more

Great selection of ethnic, organic and vegan food with everything else you would want from a grocery store! This place is a diamond in the rough. It could be cleaner and it could be newer but it has a great selection of food. The only thing more I would want it more selection in their prepared food. I would stop there to pick up dinner if they made more healthy dishes. They have the ingredients but probably not the staff to prepare good healthy dishes with a bit is zest. Love this grocery store. It's close by and it's always my go to when I've forgotten something or need to pick up a few things. Produce is always really fresh and well stocked. Meat selection is great as well. Love picking up some fun gourmet cheeses and sushi, too! I had never even heard of Giant Eagle until I started frequenting Frederick Maryland. There are a couple that I know of but this is the one I like the best. Sure it's located in a ghetto-ish area but I have made sure to visit before its dark out for fear of the shady looking parking lot. They have a great natural foods section, nice selection of nuts, organic veggies, bakery items, and nice enough staff. read more

The staff are all friendly and helpful. The parking lot is atrociously set up and needs to be leveled. The shelves could be better stocked. But the smell at the entrance is horrible. It honestly smells like something died everytime I walk in the front entrance. I continue to shop there purely out of convenience. The majority of the carts need to be repaired or replaced and I can never seem to locate a hand basket. read more

This is a decent grocery store. Not great, but not terrible either. The store is always clean. I have never experienced a sense of messiness or otherwise uncleanliness while shopping here. Products are logically laid out throughout the store, so I never have trouble finding anything. The staff, from my experience, is fairly rude. I understand that they deal with less-than-friendly people day in and day out, and it wears on you. However, I am genuinely friendly; I'll greet YOU and ask how YOUR day is going, despite being the customer in the transaction. If all I get in return to that is a scowl and a grumble, or annoyed monotone response, then I consider you downright rude. Prices here are pretty steep. I've found that most of the everyday items I've tried to buy here are priced significantly higher than at Giant, Wegman's, etc. They try to justify these higher prices by saying they have the best gas point program around. Which is true, they do. However, after you pay the prices they ask here for groceries, those gas discounts don't mean a whole lot in the big picture of your overall spending. They do have a few products that are priced similarly to other stores, which are really the only things I come in there for anymore, and usually only if it's really late at night and nothing else close to my house is open. read more

Good, solid supermarket (West Patrick location) with many surprising finds -- crawfish tails and frog legs in the seafood department, along with wild salmon and seasonal Florida pink shrimp. Many organics in the produce department. Used to carry a variety of Bell & Evans chicken products, but lately only seem to carry boneless breast portions and whole turkeys during holidays. Do have a nice selection of lamb products, including shanks and whole legs. Seem to have a varied cheese selection but nothing unusual or very aged -- still travel to Trader Joe's or Wegman's for cheese. Catered a party and ordered a cake from the bakery department -- many people at the party specifically asked where the cake had come from because it looked so nice (a photo on icing) and tasted better than other bakery cakes. Very helpful and friendly bakery staff. Did not really know this supermarket chain before moving to Frederick, but have grown to prefer Giant Eagle over Safeway or Giant for most staples, and a good resource for some less traditional products too. read more

This grocery store has good quality and prices. I gave it 3 stars for a couple of reasons. Everythime I go, there are workers outside the front door smoking. I would like the smokers to hang out in the back of the building. Also, the parking lot is not the greatests. There is always trash in the lot and carts everywhere. the golden mile store has friendly staff. but the moment you enter the store you get a stink of the seafood. i personally love seafood but the smell of the shrimp/ fish makes me question my decision to shop that department. the smell is overwhelming. i do not know if the staff is just used to the smell or if i have an over sensitive nose but that overwhelming whiff makes me want to drive the distance to the 7th street store. read more
