Pros: Most of the store Cons: The Pharmacy Most of the employees are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. There's one lady that follows people around in the health and beauty section until they leave it or she convinces them to buy something so I try to avoid shopping when she's working, but everyone else is lovely. Shelves are usually well stocked, the produce and deli are great, the store is clean, and the prices are the best you're going to get in Purcellville. The pharmacy, I beg of you go literally anywhere else because they're wildly incompetent. My husband, like most Americans who do not work in healthcare or haven't cared for a chronically ill family member, is somewhat healthcare illiterate and placed his trust (unfortunately) in this pharmacy team. Our 7 y/o has the sniffles so he came into the store asking for Children's Sudafed (the real stuff, not the phenylephrine you can get from the regular aisles.) He was "helped" by Nichole who asked how old his baby was (since when is that age measured in YEARS) and after staring blankly at a shelf of medications, asked someone else for help. The person she asked for help NEVER came to speak to my husband but handed a box of pills to Nichole. My husband didn't even think to verify if it was pills or liquid because *Children's* Sudafed doesn't come in pills. We promptly returned to the store to return the incorrect medication we were sold and the person Nichole asked for help was, disturbingly enough, the pharmacy manager Honorine! Honorine proceeded to snap at us that my husband didn't specify liquid and seemed quite irritated that we were upset with HER med error. Marieta was pleasant in helping us and attempting to process our refund but when she could not, Honorine was called over and SHE had no idea what to do. If someone is a manager, you'd think they'd be able to handle a refund but Honorine continued to display her knowledge deficiency and impatience and had to call a key holder from the front end to handle the refund. Hannah arrived promptly and handled the return well with Marieta. If either Honorine or Nichole had simply said "Sorry, we don't carry/are out of stock/don't have Children's Sudafed," my husband and I could have moved in to another store but they were so greedy to make an unnecessary sale, they wasted everyone's time and energy while demonstrating a gross unprofessional conduct and ineptitude along the way. Thousands of fatal medication errors occur in the US annually and millions of non-fatal errors occur every month--I wonder how many come from this pharmacy. TLDR: Giant's great overall but I'd sooner drive to another state than EVER trust their pharmacy again, even with the simplest transactions. Of note, while some children as young as five or six can take pills with some coaching, it has not gone well with my child in the past and especially when she's got a sore throat, it would have been a lost cause. Hence why we asked for the *CHILDREN'S* version, which only comes in liquid. :) read more

Giant grocery stores can be found in some of the southeastern states. Here in the East, we have Stop & Shop. The stores are totally identical with the same layout. I stopped by the Giant store, for some quick necessities. It looks like your average grocery store that has everything one may find in a grocery store. This Giant grocery store, however has a giant selection of wine. It's as big as the selection of olive oil, times three, in other stores. It does make a lot of sense, since this is Loudoun county, and wine and vineyards are the big attraction. read more

Even though Harris Teeter is more attractive than Giant, I have love for this store. Giant has always been good to me. I've been going to their stores for over a decade in the northeast where they go by "Stop & Shop" but share the same logo. With most of the same products and no fuss shopping experience. They carry a lot of products I can't find at Harris Teeter like pink beans and some international products. They have good deals Always registers open and self checkout always goes quick, and isn't extending into the actual aisles like at Harris Teeter. Always a lot of employees working and familiar faces that have been there for years. read more

Just moved here and we are negatively surprised with the quality of the meat in this supermarket. You can never have your choices of meat, the gentleman working there did not have any proper knowledge and the quality of the meat is nothing to write home about. Attached pictures illustrate the amount of fat packaged and hidden in the meat package!!!! What a shame? Took a almost a pound of fat hidden underneath the meat! $7.99 a pound...NOT GOOD BUSINESS! perhaps for them but not for us the customers! read more

This is one of the nicer Giant stores that I have been too. Great selection (esp of wine) and decent produce. They also have a good bakery and flower selection. Weaker selection of baby related items though. One of the associates, Dylan, was very helpful and took the time to show me where an item was without just pointing me in a direction to only get lost again. . Another associate, May, was very sweet and helpful at self check-out. read more

What was I thinking....its Saturday afternoon and had to pick up a couple things from the grocery store-at least I waited till after 3 pm. I arrive to an over crowded store, what's going on??? For crying out loud, I overhear about 50 people talking about the impending snow storm...or Winter Storm Watch...you're kidding me, right? It took me a couple minutes to convince that little voice in my head saying "run away" to calm down and that we could get through this unharmed! Stay focused on the list...done, make it to the check out...done, get in the car and go home....done and done! This Giant food never fails me. I could be looking for starfruit or disposable wine glasses...and there they are. Even out in the burbs we have our wants and needs and shouldn't have to go "into the city" to find them. Thank you Giant Food for taking care of us by having fresh produce - tomatillos - for a school project of all things! BTW, we got 1/2 inch of snow today, nothing sticking to the streets and most of it has disappeared already. Not to say the weathermen/women telling us more is on its way won't happen...but I'm not jumping on the turn your jammies inside out so we don't have school tomorrow bandwagon just yet. read more

It's a shame, I have to deal with attitude because I asked for the cheapest type of swiss cheese. I was mocked by some punk that has no business working in customer service, he's clearly terrible at helping people. We're do you find these people. I have lived and shopped in this area for decades...as in over 32 yrs. This USED to be my go-to store...and then someone at corporate lost her or his mind. The "new" store is just downright depressing. It may be popular with some people, but I've found others who, like me, have an almost visceral reaction to a store that is now dark and oppressive. Stores need to be light and welcoming. I have been in ONE time since the paint change, and I now go to Harris Teeter or drive to Leesburg, or even west to Winchester. I will pay more sometimes, but I just don't care. I can get inexpensive bread at Lidls, I can shop for local produce most of the year -- there is a good salad "hot house" just outside of town. Meat can be obtained from the farmers market and/or local farmers. Of course, that's even before we get to Aldie's, Harris Teeter, Wegman's or Costco. Just no really good reason to go to a place that thinks so little of its customers that it would create this kind of environment. They didn't have enough money to keep the price of their bread from more than doubling, which would hurt some families, some retirees, and so forth...but they had plenty of money to destroy that store! read more

The Purcellville Giant would get more stars if their pharmacy were better organized. We get monthly scripts filled there. We can't count the times that scripts have been short, misunderstood, or not filled to specs. With several alternatives in town, such as (the new) RiteAid and others going in, you'd think they could be more proactive. The food store has been good and bad; when it first opened about 9 years ago, it was great; however, in recent years, the selection had diminished and they always seem to be out of something. Although improved recently, Giant's in general have far less produce than many of their competitors. Only the basics. I fear for them once the new Harris Teeter opens later in 2012. One good thing is that, if you ask for a product or note to them that something is missing, you just may see it back on the shelves the next time you are in for grocery shopping. But, all of that not withstanding, they are convenient, open late and generally have the brands we need. The prices are okay - not great - especially if you have and use your Giant card. read more

I was assisted by the nicest deli employee today and had to compliment his uplifting personality and genuine appreciation for his work. I believe his name was Glen. Closes too early, pharmacy closes way too early, changing stock since being bought by a Dutch conglomerate. It's a grocery store that sometimes had what you bought last week. When this branch first opened it was a four star. Too bad it has slipped away. I shop here because it's either this or Food Lion, but Harris Teeter is opening soon! read more

I rather enjoy coming to the local Giant when I'm in the area. They have a surprisingly good selection of beer and wine, although the prices for some can be a little pricey. The store itself is very clean, and very rarely do I ever see any items placed sporadically. I also enjoy their freshly prepared sushi rolls to go.. perfect for a quick lunch break. They also have the self-checkout kiosks, which I enjoy using when I'm only grabbing a few items and am in a hurry. read more

This review is for the Pharmacy in the Purcellville Giant. The store itself is fine...but three times I have had to deal with two folks in the pharmacy and both acted as if they were doing me a favor by looking up my RX. Both were extremely rude and unhelpful. Wish I had their names but I didn't think to ask. Either way, if these folks are that miserable in their job...they shouldn't be there. I shop at Giant and have since it opened. Generally I find everything I need and the checkers are very helpful. However, the packers need some basic training. Common sense tells you to put the heavy items on the bottom and the lighter items on top. For instance, putting a carton of tomatoes in the bottom of the bag and then piling cans and bottles on top is not a winning strategy (no kidding I had to stop someone from doing this). I try to help out by putting all my heavy items on the belt first, but I still have to stop some of the packers from potentially crushing items with heavier purchases. read more

Of all the grochery stores in the Purcellville area, we like this one the best and while they don't always have some of the niche products we're looking for we have always found thier staff to be friendly and very helpful. They're close enough to our house that its convenient and our great relationship with the folks that help run the store make it a great place to go and shop for everything we need to put a meal on the table. read more
