Went here for the first time a few weeks ago - they have a section where you can pick freshly roasted coffee beans of your choice and grind it up right on the spot! I don't see myself shopping here for my normal groceries but the fresh coffee beans will keep us coming back, another plus is that it wasn't super crowded! read more

This MOM's is a smaller store, with a selection of produce, bulk items, raw/sustainable food, dairy, frozen foods, wellness items (homeopathic, etc.), and lotions/fragrances. We came here to look for the Ollie Pop drinks, which I found them to be competitively-priced against the Sprouts, literally situated across the lot! I also found some handmade Christmas ornaments on sale, which I just had to have - note that they don't ring up on the discounted price at the cashiers, so you'll have to make sure you check the receipts. The system may not be updated often. We had to go through the whole refund and checking of the prices, so it did take some time to check-out. This is quickly becoming my favorite grocer. The store isn't very large compared to other grocery markets in the area but they carry a surprisingly wide array of products that I'm looking for as well as new and interesting things. They usually have a number of items on sale and I've tried and found new products I like which I otherwise would have never considered. I'll get in what feels is going to be a long wait to check out and they open a new register. They seem to be very aware as I've never really had to wait to check out in this store. I really appreciate this as nothing irks me more than having to wait to give someone my money! We don't go here regularly. Probably 4-6 times a year. Often I time it around a return from business trip if I'm flying out of Dulles. When we lived in MD we used to go to the Rockville location all the time. Mom's is the best for higher end and specialty items (usually in the hippie zone) and in this space is superior to Whole Foods. They have a great selection of organic produce and meats. Mom's is a strong value based company with linkages to environmentalist causes, a focus on sustainable food, and I understand they pay their staff well. All of this translates to a happier more engaged staff that tend to stay with Mom's longer than the staff at other stores. Service has always been excellent at this and the other locations we have been to. Please note that the price do trend on the higher end. read more

On my way back from Reston to Ashburn I stopped by to pick up some vitamins. Its been some time since I visited last and I was surprised how much the store has expanded and the variety of products that are stocked, from fruits and vegetables to vitamins (lots of them) and other food products. Wellness center manager ( the tall guy with shoulder length hair) and the assistant manager Tulari were rude and abusive towards an elderly customer today.. I saw them treating this the customer who seemed to have an issue with returning an item was poorly treated by these two individuals! Instead of helping her with the return, both of them were mocking her and were dismissive and disrespectful. The wellness manager kept on telling her that she is harassing him , she is in his space and needs to leave so he can finish what he was doing . He wouldn't let her finish her sentence and kept on saying anything else?? Isn't his job to assist her with her transaction and concerns ? When the customer asked to speak to someone else Tulari refused and told her to leave the store , she is not welcomed there!! Everyone witnessed the incident and were in total shock!! These two individuals are unprofessional and criminals and needs to be fired immediately for abusing customers. read more

They have everything and then some. A mini version of corporate whole foods, Mom's is just the right size where you can shop and find your essentials and produce under one roof. Visited a few MOMS stores and unfortunately was not impressed with product availability, ingredients in many products and certainly not prices - usually better at other natural / health food markets. Service was not quite service, as some glum staff with limited to no product knowledge failed to provide any useful assistance. An employee answered every question with "I don't know" and seeking assistance from another was also useless. Of more concern, another seen having some sort of al melt down. An employee dwelling on her own personal issues instead of focusing on customer needs is not what needs to occur in a business and this sort of thing makes for a really uncomfortable environment. It may be profitable for a business to profess and appear to support the environment but that is questionable if the store and its staff fail to provide a supportive environment to customers. The first order of business for a business is to provide a pleasant, respectful and safe shopping environment - that is what customers expect and are entitled to. . Unfortunately sometimes things are not what they appear to be and choose to shop for value and good environment over cult. read more

I love Mom's Organic, I wish it was in Centreville, but it's worth traveling to Herndon. I love the fresh organic produce. They have interesting produce too like sunchokes and rutabagas. They have a great bulk section and tons of great vegan products. They also have jumbo sized can of beans, which I appreciate because 1 small can is never enough. They've got plenty of parking and if there is something they happen not to have, you can try Sprouts in the same shopping center. But I prefer Mom's because the produce is better. read more

The staff is always helpful. Today, a produce man went above and beyond in terms of customer service. I mentioned to him that the bulk foods had no red wheatberries. He apologized and went in the back to get some for me. He came back and said that the inventory report said they had some, but that they must be part of a shipment they just received. He said he would find them, but it might take a minute. I told him I would just stop by tomorrow. A few minutes later he found me in the parking lot to tell me he found them and would have them out in a minute. I returned and got my wheatberries. Wow. Rare that someone goes to this trouble for a customer (in my recent experience). read more

This was awesome because I was looking everywhere for burdock root that I can make a herbal tea. Many stores were out of it and MOM'S Organic always has the hard to find items. They have a small free coffee bar in the back of the store to keep ya energized on your shopping trip. They offer several eco-friendly options and tons of healthy foods. We are also big fans of Whole Foods and it's always nice to have more organic markets. Though, MOM's isn't as large as WF, it still has a nice variety of items. This place is dangerous for me, too much deliciousness around. Their soaps, hand wash, candle, body wash section is one of my favorite sections. It all smells so good! MOM's organic market popped up on my search bar with super positive reviews. I decided to check this place out. It reminds you of a whole foods, trader joes, or Sprouts on the West Coast. There is a Naked Lunch in the market place. I ended up grabbing lunch from there. I got the Breeze bowl. Instead of the lime citrus, I got the herb vinegrette. The veggies tasted fresh. I also got their Chill Juice, which was also good, but tasted a little too sweet for me. This is the place to go for healthy food and if you want to feel good about eating. I did have a upset stomach after eating though and my night was pretty rough, but the food was so good and healthy ! read more

Really love this place and have started frequenting it more than Whole Foods. MOMs is a pricey organic/crunch granola/etc grocery store, so the assumed notion is that they will be really pricey. They are,...in some senses, BUT! I have found that for bulk and produce they are actually comparable to whole foods and sometimes cheaper, and all their produce is from USA and all organic. So you don't have to worry about digging through stuff and trying to determine if its local AND organic or just local, like at whole foods. They also have way more random quirky things and from talking to their associates, their standards for bringing a product in their store is rediculously high. Not only are they concerned about ingredients, but also about vendor processing, and their sourcing. Its really amazing. It gave me a lot of trust in their product selection. They also carry Swapples, which you can't get anywhere. I mean seriously, have you tried a swapple???? They also have the Naked Lunch Cafe which is great for huge portioned organic cafe food. Haven't tried it yet but can't wait to. Lastly, they do recycling of all kinds - shoes, glasses, etc. Bring it all in. They are also doign christmas light recycling in a few weeks! read more

This is my favorite Mom's in the DMV area. I love that the Naked Lunch Bar is separate from the rest of the store; the ordering & payment process is so much smoother this way. The store itself is laid out well, the variety is great (natural, organic foods & such) and there is always plenty of free parking. I'm gonna go on brief tangent.. The prices are higher than "cheap" traditional grocery stores - wake up people! You vote with your dollars. The same people who bitch about paying higher prices for organic foods that are ethically sourced & produced are the ones that waste their money on needless items like fancy spa treatments, restaurant meals, bars & happy hours, trips to the mall, etc. etc. You choose how you spend your money.. if your health doesn't matter and quality products don't matter - go to Safeway, H-mart & the like - and stop bitching about MOMs' high prices. Just sayin :) Back to the review.... I've been shopping @ MOMs for over a decade and while I can't get everything I need here (that's when I trek to Whole Foods to stock up on what I can't get here), their quality is top notch and I love that they're always sourcing local vendors/businesses. 90% of the time, the staff are awesome (everyone has their bad days) and I love that I can walk out feeling like I bought things that are good for my body. I used to be super frugal and shop at cheap grocers but I never felt good about supporting cheap labor, manufacturing and poor farming practices. After we ate dinner at Panera, we decided that we were long overdue for a visit to MOM's. And since it was at the other end of the shopping center, what better time to visit. We figured that we would just browse to see what it was like, yeah right! $50 dollars later, we left to go home. I couldn't help but compare it to Whole Foods---and in many ways, MOM's comes out on top. Although there are ways that Whole Foods is better. Produce---We liked the look of the produce at MOM's---even buying some zucchini and yellow squash. However, Whole Foods has a much wider selection Store size and layout---Whole Foods is larger and clearly has signs telling you what's in each aisle. MOM's would do well to add some signage. Baked Goods---We were pleasantly surprised at MOM's. Although the bakery section is much smaller, they had an impressive selection of vegan baked goods. Thus we succumbed to temptation and bought some. Soups---My husband likes to have Dr. MacDougall's vegan soup cups---especially the fake chicken noodle ones. He got so frustrated with Whole Foods inability to keep the shelves properly stocked that he resorted to ordering the stuff online. We both were surprised to see that MOM's had a wide selection of these soups. Now my husband knows that there is another place where he can buy them. Frozen Foods---MOM's carries much of the same items as Whole Foods. However, MOM's comes out on top here. Everytime I would go to Whole Foods, I kept wishing that I could find some vegan potstickers---always wondering if Annie Chun made any as I never saw any there. Much to my surprise, MOM's had some "vegetable Shiitake mushroom" ones which made me so happy that I just had to buy some. Snack foods---MOM's has a good selection of chips and nuts---very similar to Whole Foods. What I didn't see at MOM's --- No sushi or sushi counter. I must say that Whole Foods offers up great quality sushi for a supermarket. Their veggie sushi is the best I've had. Overall cleanliness and order---MOM's wins on this one. We were there on a Friday night. Yet all the stock on the shelves was in good order, as was the case in the frozen food aisle. Customer Service---Both places are good with this. However, sometimes at Whole Foods it can be hard to find someone when you have a question. At MOM's we saw more than one employee on the floor. We'll be back to MOM's. With each subsequent visit, it will be easier to notice just how consistent they are when it comes to properly stocking shelves and being reliable when it comes to carrying certain items. I ding Whole Foods big time for that. You can go several times and buy a certain item, then one day it's no longer there---which can be frustrating. read more

I love this store. I recently converted to a heart healthy whole food plant based diet which requires ample cruciferous greens and veggies and they have the freshest selection of organic greens and other veggies as well. Their mushrooms are locally sources and the bulk section for grains, beans, nuts is always fresh and reasonably priced. They don't just talk the talk they walk it. I buy my vegan B12 and D3 there also. They have some vegan wines and salt free snacks as well. I will continue to shop there and count Moms as an essential part of the human experience for people who care about what they put in their bodies. read more

My wife goes to Moms for various reasons, Organic food, nuts, organic shampoos etc. I go there for one and only reason, Trickling Springs Organic Ice-Cream (ButterMilk Berry flavor). I love the taste of this ice cream. So fresh, so creamy, so so rich that I am not even joking :) As long as I have the strength and power to eat Ice-Cream, I will keep crawling to this place and eat Trickling Springs! read more

I shop at MOMS for 75% of my groceries but kept noticing gooey cotton candy in thick plastic containers being sold at the end caps at check out. I emailed the CEO to question whether selling cotton candy in an organic health food store Was a good idea. His response: I don't think Deborah that we can eliminate all products we carry that are packaged in plastic- even "thick" plastic. We carry plenty of items that are not healthy, but they're less unhealthy than the alternatives. We want to give our customers the choice. Although, I get your point about giving it such prominent shelf space and I'll look into that. I responded: I'm not impressed by your response. Your customer service style can use improvement. Does this mean promoting health and organic food is bullshit on your part? Home Goods carries cotton candy in similar containers. I am disappointed you think this product belongs in My Organic Market and haven't noticed other blatantly unhealthy products in the store His response: To people who question my integrity- I tell them to go fuck themselves. How many of these things are there? I swear, every time I go exploring some new area, I find a MOM's. I was not expecting this one, but there it was. That being said, MOM's is what it is, they're all pretty much the same. There are so many hard to find niche health food and other specialty things; I always find something worth trying. You can't do better if you have some special dietary needs. The shopping experience is pleasing; the aisles are big enough, the lights aren't low, checkout is reasonably fast (none of these things are assumed in the specialty grocery world). You can't call it cheap, but for what you get the price can't be beat either. First time at Herndon location MOM's market since I was out in the area. The lay out is pre much the same as the one in mosaic. I really like shopping at Mom's because they carry many items Whole Foods do not carry. I got two full bags of a lot of goodies at this location MOM's. They have really fresh fruit and vegetables and love the bag of shredded carrots in yellow, orange and purple. I grabbed some organic Thai rice noodles, organic coconut milk, organic green curry paste, organic mild taco seasoning, Amy's organic frozen entrees for easy lunch at work. This store has fabulous organic veggies, which are so much fresher than what you see at Whole Foods or Sprouts. And the meats are also delicious. They also have bins in front where you can deposit used phones, shoes, and there's even a compost bin. I love their commitment to being clean and green. Store is always clean, and the employees are very nice. I find lot of food that's healthy and delicious. I notice a lot of food in other grocery stores has so many harmful dyes companies will sneak in. They don't seem care what health issues it causes. Healthcare is extremely expensive in this country, so I'd rather spend more on healthy food then on a bunch of prescriptions. This grocery store is also more reasonable priced then some organic restaurants and grocery stores. The one thing I'd add the store is some music of some kind. Could be yoga music. read more
