Fairly new grocery store in the Cottman area. Large and has everything you need. Quality produce and fresh meats. The service is average. The store is very welcoming and convenient to navigate. There is a large parking lot area with access to other stores such as Target and Party City, etc. My onky issue is that they seem to be priced higher than most other grocery stores. I hope a manager sees this. I went to buy a bunch of beer today in the hot weather for a party I was having. The cashier with the dreads was extremely rude in the beer and alcohol checkout . His personal phone conversation was more important than helping a customer check out. He said I could NOT buy my 5 cases together and I would have to purchase each one separately and walk it to my car and come back and purchase the next one. So he wanted me to do this 5 times. I've worked in retail/sales for years and never heard of that rule. Get it together giant. Don't trust this store on the prices that it rings up. You need a lawyer in an accountant to understand the pricing that they show and then in small print require specific purposes or amounts or coupons. I went to the register with two things a bundle of kale and a container of blueberries. They gave me the price per share of the different tail that cost 50% more and they gave me a price for blueberries that didn't match up with what I saw. It ends up that there was nowhere that gave the price for the blueberries that I picked up in two different locations they had the blueberries next to other things that were lower-priced making it confusing and almost like a bait-and-switch kind of thing. So I went back to the produce area and photographed the pricing. When you put items on end caps they are usually priced. But not in this case. I found the same blueberries in another spot and I thought they were priced because there was a price right over them but I realized later that it was probably for the smaller box. That means that they were two places that they had blueberries that there were no prices for anywhere. They brought over a supervisor, Kim, and she walked away, with no apology no consideration of customer relations, leaving me to wait at least 5 minutes. I finally gave are we left just buying the one item with my help got the right price on. I go to the LA Fitness just a couple yards away from the store and I was thinking to myself as I entered it I should go here more. I'm good with math so I could see when they were offering Big Font good prices with the small print special requirements. People make mistakes but what was particularly galling was the way that the supervisor handled me. The giant at grant ave in Philly has lost their minds - place is packed wondering why no one is moving and we get to the front now they're charging 15 cents for a paper bag that is horrible rips the second you use it on top of that they have a girl standing in front of this box no one knows why she's there or what she's doing she's guarding the bags ?!? Always nice staff and organic product selection is quite good...I just wish that products sold the way they should be without pesticides or hormones or whatever did not cost more than the modified products. Be aware Giant's is not accepting returns or exchanges. I found out the hard way when I bought some ground beef. I went home to make chili the same day, but couldn't because the meat was bad. When I went back to the store to get a replacement, I found out. The manager was very rude and even told me not to buy meat anymore at his store. Giant customer my entire life. Never going back. Elderly woman working the self check-out snapped at me and dismissed my objection. She was wrong, by the way. My cart was touching the machine, and the machine stopped because of it. She informed me of this and moved on. I put a bag down, and the machine stopped again. She thought my cart was leaning against the machine again, but that was not the case. The machine paused the second time because I put a bag down. It even showed the different error on the screen. Giant still hasn't figured out how to deal with their paper bags and false readings every time a new bag is set down. When I was done, because the self check-out was crowded and my cart could not pass through the traffic jam, I asked a customer if they could please move their cart. A completely normal and polite thing to ask. The employee, who I was *not* addressing, shoved the cart out of the way as if I were asking her to do it and gave me quite a nasty look. Nobody was giving her a hard time, least of all myself. She made me feel like I was garbage. We're all just trying to get through our lives, OK? No need to ruin my day or treat me like I'm not a human being. P.S. - I hope this isn't taken as some rude complaint or that I often complain. Working a supermarket or retail is no picnic, as I have done so before, and I don't complain over minor incidents. My last two shopping trips have been to another supermarket. I like Giant on Grant Ave because its clean and convenient but the brown girl (I describe her as brown because the others are white and keep in mind I am neither white nor brown and this has nothing to do with race) at the deli counter has the most disgusting attitude and I refuse to go to this Giant when I need to visit the deli counter. I've seen her be rude to every single person. I have never witnessed her to be nice. I've seen people curse her out and I refuse to have that experience when food shopping. Well, this has been the Giant du jour lately and it ain't too shabby. Nothing necessarily extraordinary about it either, mind you. They're not stocking things you can't find anywhere else. It's not exotic or luxurious, nor is it entertaining or mysterious. It's just a very ample and efficient supermarket. It's clean. The points reward program for gas is cool. I normally don't bother with things like that, but this takes little to no effort on the customer's part and it's nice to be able fill up for a fraction of the regular price once in a while. The shopping center it is a part of should, in theory, be good too. It's sprawling, new and at a heavily trafficked intersection but most of it I don't have any use for. I only patronize two stores: Giant and the state store next door. (Which is awesome BTW). The parking lot kinda sucks, of course that's because of all the other shitty little scumbag shoppers, not the businesses. Dig it, Giant's where it's at. Save money on gas, get your food and lottery tickets then pop in next door and get a couple bottles of wine. Just be careful driving through the lot because people are assholes. They have those signature PB cookies too! ;) read more

This isn't my usual Giant. Sunday is grocery shopping day, and I was already in this immediate area, so I dropped into this location. I've been here before. This Giant is much busier than the one in Bensalem. They didn't even have shopping carts! It was nuts. I always feel a little lost being in a different location of a chain. I only really shop the perimeter of the store, so I can't say much for what's going on in the middle. Their produce section is lovely and extensive. The set up is extremely appealing, and it's great that all those colors hit you the second you walk into the store. I was drawn to it! Not too much to say about it though. They did have a bit more selection on organic meats than my other store. I like the other Giant though. So much more chill and it feels like home there. =P read more

It is a giant food store, so they get credit for delivering on what they commit too. The store is definitely mid-grade, and when I was there it was pretty messy. Thank you Giant - Grant Road and Thank You Sandra I am so appreciative of Giant- Grant Road in Northeast Philly and Sandra. I am a wheelchair user --- I do not walk or stand. Last night I asked Customer Service if someone could help me shop. It is a big store & we (my Service Animal guInnis & me) did not have the energy to make trips back and forth to check out. Without hesitation Sandra said she would assist me. While Sandra was finishing with a customer a female guard said "I will get a cart". Very nicely she asked me "Do I need a large cart or small cart?" Almost not able to contain myself I smiled saying "Thank you a small cart will be fine". Sandra asked me about my dog. I explained his real name is Innis II but we call him guInnis. We were off. I never had a more wonderful shopping experience. Sandra has the patience of a saint --- she treated me as if I was the only person in the store. My initial intention was to pick up a few quickie items. Nevertheless I was so comfortable I was able to think through what I needed. Usually in a grocery store I get all nervous because many customers and even some store clerks are inpatient and act like that do not like disabled people. Not Sandra... I could go on and on about Sandra. She took the time to ask me questions as well as listen. Sandra would often clarify what I was saying. Sometimes that was all that was necessary. Other times she needed to answer my question or find the answer. To exemplify I could, if there was a question about price she would find a scanner and then take the item to scan. Arriving home I explained to my son the fabulous experience I had at the Giant - Grant Road. He was amazed and seemed thankful that I could get help. Marcus use to go grocery shopping with me and feels awful that he cannot provide the support he has since he was a little boy. Before Whole Foods in Jenkintown became so popular I was able to get some assistance. Yet, Giant - Grant Road is so much better considering I do not have to travel to another county and the environment is super! Before closing I want to mention price and quality. I do not buy expensive. If a product is expensive I'll try to buy generic, wait until it goes on sale and/or coupons are available. For example last week Giant offered $1.00 off 5 pounds of organic potatoes - Russet, Gold or Red. This week the potatoes are regular price; so I will have to wait until potatoes are on sale again. Giant offers a range of brands and prices. I am particularly pleased with the brand Nature Promise. Sandra continued to help me after shopping. She was my arms and legs at the check-out counter and thoughtfully packed the bags. Before taking my bags to place in my van she complimented guInnis on his excellent behavior. I knew that I was getting old the minute I got excited that a Giant was opening up along my route home from work. I love Giant because their selection of gluten free stuff is amazing, which makes shopping for my partner much easier. What I didn't expect was to find that the new location spotlights local produce and has a very good bakery to boot. So far, over two trips, the employees have all been excessively friendly (a sharp contrast the Shopright on the boulevard). I was also pretty happy with their international aisle, which has a nice variety of ingredients, some of which I'd given up on finding in conventional grocery stores. Four star for their higher prices. Northeast Philadelphia residents are more modest in their incomes. Lower your prices and you will throw out less juice, produce and meat. Other than that an excellent bakery, produce selection, and deli with prepared foods and salad bar.
