I got my boat taken in on Aug 17, 2021, to Gibbons Motor and Toys to look at the damage to my prop and whatever else damage to the leg. I waited for Gibbons Motor and Toys to call with an estimate for the damage to the prop and whatever else was broken to the leg.
They called Aug 30, 2021, and says the leg looks bad and the casing was cracked on the inside. I decided to drive out to Gibbons to take a look and to talk to someone in service. I talked to a service person and ask for a quote and was told there was another guy who was doing the quote and wouldn't be in until 9:30. I ask if he can show me what was broken and he took me out to the boat to show the broken parts of the leg and he asks for my permission to get the upper unit taken off to see if there was any damage to the unit and I give him the okay to do it.
I then asked him how much roughly it's going to cost and he didn't know and I asked him again and he replied roughly $10,000 range and I said that is quite high and shouldn't cost that much and he said the other guy would know better when the rest of the inspection is done.
I called back on Sept 15 and asked someone in service if they looked at the upper unit yet and was told that the quote for parts wasn't finished yet and ask what is it going to cost and was told roughly in the $10,000 range that the upper unit had damage to the shaft and the bearing that connects to the engine. He said that they would have to remove the engine to get at the bearing on the engine.
Sept 21, 2021, called Gibbons motor and toys was told the quote isn't ready yet and is going to cost $10,000. I told them specifically not to touch the boat as I was coming to pick up the boat on a Friday to take somewhere else. I asked what they were going to charge me for dismantling the leg and upper unit and was told $1400 and that it took 8 hours. I told them it doesn't take 8 hours to take off the leg and upper unit.
On Sept 23, 2021, I get a call from the service guy and was told that my tire was flat, bald and a chunk of rubber was missing from it and I was told they brought the boat into the shop and the tire was taken off the trailer. He said I would need a new tire and also he deducted 2 hours off the 8 hours. They were told not to touch the boat 3 days ago and he said he had to get it ready for me to pick up and that was his reason for bringing the boat into the shop. I was very irate with him trying to fleece me.
I think these guys are a bunch of crooks and advise anyone who takes any toys to get fixed at Gibbons Motor and Toys to get pictures before and after. I think someone there needed a tire and decided to switch tires for himself. I just recently bought this boat a month and a half ago from a Saskatchewan dealership and they would have mentioned it as it is a safety hazard also I and other people who have seen the boat would have noticed a foot long chunk of rubber missing from it and it is something no one would miss seeing. read more
