This was our first time here. We stopped in on our way back to Lexington and it was surprisingly good!! The food was delicious and the service was good. We ordered the Pork Pot Stickers and the Southwest Eggrolls to start and we loved them both. Their Jalapeño Aioli is very good. I ordered the Fried Fish sandwich and the fillet was huge and I highly recommend it! It was perfectly cooked and the breading was great. Had the chicken club today... I usually get the burger (it's great). The bread was soggy, the avocado was left out, the bacon was thin as paper and fatty, the chicken was microwaved. Nasty...the waitress did not ask if she could replace my meal...she just said sorry and gave me my check. I left more than half of it on the plate. The guy who cooks was not there today, it was a lady who doesn't know what she's doing! We made reservations for Easter Sunday and on the reservation I requested a booth. We went there this past Thanksgiving and were seated at a table close to the front door and every time the door opened a blast of cold air came in and made the experience cold and miserable. Today We arrived 10 minutes early and I reminded the host we had requested a booth. His response was they were booked until 3:00. I'm not sure what that had to do with anything. There were 3 booths available at the time we were seated. once again at the table in direct line of the front door, so a cold, windy, miserable experience. To add insult to our experienc, At the time we left one of the 3 empty booths was still empty. The food was fine but the lack of accommodation by the host was a total failure. Gibson's is a nice dining experience with a wide variety of menu options! An unexpected gem in downtown Midway. We visited Gibson's on a Friday after Keeneland, the restaurant was very busy, we had a group of 8, they were able to get a table upstairs and hung out downstairs while waiting on our upstairs table. Mussels and fried green tomatoes were great appetizers that quickly disappeared from the table! Everyone's sushi at the table looked great, although I did not order any. My husband's pork chop entree was absolutely phenomenal, while my salmon dish was underwhelming, lacking flavor, the rice and broccoli were bland and boring. Service was friendly, however a little slow but to be expected on a Friday evening during Keeneland season! Overall the experience was good, I would return to Gibsons and try another dish! read more

It had been awhile since I had been to Gibson's and I wonder why it took me so long! Our girls lunch was delicious. I had the crab cake appetizer and a bowl of shrimp and corn chowder. We enjoyed a nice lunch at Gibson's on an October Thursday. Although Main Street was covered in parked cars, we were one of only three tables sat in the restaurant. Casual atmosphere. Clean. Comfy chairs. Tables spaced nicely apart. Our service was a tad slow and certainly not enthusiastic but adequate. The crab cake po' boy was tasty. The crab cake was really meaty and the Thai chili sauce gave it a nice kick. The chicken quesadilla was huge and filling. Although the pineapple taste didn't really come through. Went for a business dinner and the air conditioner still wasn't working. Asked if we could sit in the downstairs bar hoping it would be cooler and luckily it was. The service was good; however, I ordered the Lobster Risotto and the lobster seemed slimy and possibly undercooked. Food was delicious but it was miserably hot inside the restaurant. They told me the air hasn't been working for about 6 weeks. They had one floor fan that we were having to move every 15 minutes to allow the tables to get air circulation. If your air is out, then buy more fans!! When I made the reservation the day before and then called to confirm the day of, no one mentioned anything about their air being out. We definitely would have dined somewhere else if we had known. It's hard to enjoy your dinner when you're hot and sweaty. Our server was great, but I felt sorry for all the employees having to work in those conditions! Decor was very welcoming, food was delicious and our server was perfect. Highly recommend. Parking was street parking, which wasn't a problem on a Friday night. There are about four steps to entry way. Lower level (outside entry steps outdoors or middle of upstairs dining room) is a bar with seating - definitely not the same caliber look as upstairs, though it is the same food menu. Seating upstairs is a combination of booths and tables. Large exterior windows makes a gorgeous view of downtown. Outside door opens directly into dining area which unfortunately circulated outside cold air every time it was opened on our visit. Pricing is on the high side, but not unreasonable for food portion size and quality. Standard salad had chopped vegetables, which I prefer, over sliced. Ranch dressing was homemade and delicious. Croutons tasted homemade and were excellent. Pasta dish was not overcooked and sauce was amazing. Salmon glaze was delicious, though a bit too sweet. Daily filet special had great flavor but steak was very tough. Loved the different taste of the Mac and cheese and the scalloped potatoes. Crème brûlée was done perfectly. We received a gift card as a wedding present so we made reservations and went tonight. We waited quite a while before anyone came to our table and got our drink order. It wasn't busy inside but we assumed maybe it was busy outside. It was at least 25 minutes after we were seated before we received the drinks we ordered from the bar. Our waitress never brought us bread. The owner/manager had to bring it. We got the Gibson Salad with our meal and I was so excited about the warm bacon dressing, but it was a little disappointing. Not much flavor and kind of oily. Now, when my entree came, it was absolutely delicious! It was hot and tasted so good! I ordered the crab cakes entree and it came with an angel hair pasta with artichokes and sun dried tomatoes. It was phenomenal! I just wish the service had been better. Went here for a date night, and we're "local" so we're familar with the Midway scene. Our experience was decidedly mediocre, and I'll detail why: 1) When ordering wine, my wife ordered a Chianti. The server came back with a glass of white wine, and said "Oh, we are out of red Chianti...". She was serious (!) but we laughed it off and my wife chose another red on the list...only to look directly up at the wine rack that was over our heads later and see *the* bottle of red Chianti she had ordered which they were "out of". We gently pointed this out to the server with a bit of laughter, and she seemed fairly unconcerned. 2) I ordered the walleye with garlic mashed potatoes. Upon waiting ~20 min for our food, the server approached and said the mashed potatoes "weren't looking too good" and asked if I'd like another choice. A strange bit of feedback from the kitchen, to be sure. 3) We both got the same salad, so it was brought out in a metal bowl to serve ourselves. As we plated our salads, we were 1/2 into eating them, and the server came and tried to clear/take our still 1/3 full bowl of house salad to the point she grabbed the bowl which was across the table and over our plates. We stopped her because 1) we were eating and 2) there was still plenty of salad to be eaten, and she seemed surprised. Also of note on the "appetizer" section, there was no bread/butter, which is fairly standard for a dinner location like this. My wife commented she was surprised at this. 4) In general, the food was "good". Not life changing but altogether "decent" except for the asparagus, which still had very "woody" ends. The steak my wife got was cooked nicely, and my walleye was a generous portion with good flavor. The servers were nice and friendly, albeit clearly untrained and "raw". I'm fine with "casual dining" at Applebee's but as a "white tablecloth" location, the servers were all wearing jeans, some rippped/with holes in the knees and literally random t-shirts (not branded for the restaurant). A weird vibe for "white tablecloth" for sure. 5) The restaurant was supposed to close at 10pm, and we were one of only about 4 couples in the restaurant so it was a "slow" night. At approximately 7:45-8pm one of the employees proceeded to start vacuuming a large area for about 5 minutes, very loudly, at the expense of being able to hear each other or converse at our table. We just laughed and rolled our eyes a bit...who runs a vacuum during dinner hours, especially hours from close? 6) The Creme Brulee dessert was $9 for a very, very small ramekin. It was topped with some shady looking chopped strawberries, and was "ok" at best, but certainly not $9 for a small serving. Fairly priced would be $5, at best. 7) The silverware looked like it came from a middle school lunch room. I don't need to dine with fine silver by any means, but this was the "is it metal or not?" stuff that was discolored, dull knives, and bent forks. We try to keep perspective and realize that post-COVID most restaurants are still trying to survive and find workers willing to actually work. Midway experiences pretty frequent turnover of restaurants, and has lost some good ones in recent years. However, at Gibson's the training of staff and overall quality was very much so lacking for a $100 date-night dinner. If you're going to position your restaurant as a "white tablecloth" type of place, your service and food should match the image you're putting out. We wouldn't recommend it to others for such an outing, to be sure. We will hope that they improve and would love to experience a better try in the future, if they can fix their myriad issues. read more

Gibsons must still be working out the food and service. Requested salads with warm bacon dressing. Both tasted as if oil only was on them. Requested additional bacon dressing and maybe 2 tablespoon serving was provided but it did taste like bacon. I ordered steak medallions with garlic mashed and asparagus. Requested medium heat for steak but definitely way overdone (leathery). Asked for steak sauce and was told they only have A-1. Wife ordered scallops and risotto with broccoli. She said they tasted fine. Service speed was ok but waitress never asked how our food was. Appeared to have two hostesses and two waitresses. Disappointing. Chicken Parm should come off the menu. It's a plain chicken breast grilled for any chicken sandwich served over pasta w/ a very average and bland pasta sauce. Grouper sandwich was OK and waffle fries were fine. We had to request ketchup (for fries) as well as both salt and pepper. Long wait for both. Salads were ordered w/ warm bacon dressing. As a local, I've waited 90 days and five visits to write this review. Opening weekend excellent service and familiar faces with menus for upstairs and downstairs. I made it back a few weeks later to see a unified menu with reasonable prices and the same service. Service and food have been good, especially when replacing a local restaurant. We had only been eating downstairs because the upstairs steakhouse had the brightest lights I've seen for a restaurant until tonight. We go there for the ambiance and service, and tonight another new menu that is way too big, and damn, I don't want to see other tables at a basement bar, but it's lit like a Walmart. I didn't even order food and cashed out. Excellent server but won't be back unless it goes back to the charm they used to have. read more

Overall we were not impressed. Steak was over cooked and my meal came out with the wrong side. The crab cake meal had no flavor came out room temperature and was not worth eating. Have been here before and never had any issues, but last night was unbelievable. Arriving around 6:30, we ordered a bottle of wine, and it took almost 10 minutes before it was brought to us and it wasn't what we ordered. Told her again what we wanted and it took another 10 minutes before our waitress came back to tell us it wasn't available, so we ordered a different one. Again, 10 minutes pass and they were also out of that one! Nearly 45 minutes of waiting, we finally got our 4th choice of wine. Then, it took over an hour before we finally started receiving our food. Food was good, but the evening was ruined. They definitely need more staff and some decent wines! read more

mid heard a couple of good comments about Gibson's and had been wanting to give it a try. It did not disappoint! My family decided to all order differentKy so we could sample a variety of entrees, which included fried green tomatoes, mussels, fried walleye, seared scallops, ribeye, child's spaghetti, Gibson's salad, and roasted beet salad. It was all good! The mussels were the star of the night. The broth like sauce in which they were served along with hot crusty bread were fabulous. Next time that may be my entree. read more

Stopped in here on the way back from a day trip to Lexington. It's on Main Street in Midway. The whole area is lovely. I had been to the Goose and Gander a few times (happily) but wanted to try someplace else there. There's a bit of an odd mix going on here. There are white tablecloths but wait staff wearing ripped jeans. The average entre is around 30$, but bread and butter are not served with the meal. Just a bit odd. The space is nice. It is elevated off of ground level. There was a nice view of the train when it came through. I had the sirloin with sides of fingerling potatoes and asparagus. The steak was cooked correctly and was good (a tad on the dry side for a medium rare). The sides were good as well. There was a glaze on the steak that was delicious. Salad is a part of an entre order and is delivered in a communal bowl (I was half of a two person party). Our server was very good, attentive, and prompt with service. Overall, this was a decent experience. However, it seems to have one foot in the casual world and one foot in the fine dining world and would probably do best to pick one or the other. Either ditch the tablecloths and probably a dollar or two off of some of the prices. Or step up the game with better dress and bread and butter. read more

The server did not know which items on the menu were gluten free or could be tweaked to make them gluten free, so she asked the chef.
