What a fun store! GrittyKitty is not just for cat lovers, but if you are, it will be impossible to leave this shop without purchasing something. The vast variety of items they have amassed is impressive, and the way everything is playfully displayed is sensory overload! In a good way. Wandered in on a sunny afternoon with zero expectations and stayed a good 20 minutes making several laps around the store. In the center is a large tree structure adorned with dozens of adorable cat stuffed animals, with leaves made of huge paper globes in rich teals and purples, and hanging flower lanterns. The walls are filled with cat pictures, many original art from local artists. in fact, many of the items in the store are made locally. They even conduct workshops where you can make some of them, like the hanging flower lanterns. There are notebooks, hair clips that look like a cat, figurines, keychains, scarves, tote bags, and various purses, wallets and crossbody bags. For the kitchen there are bottle openers, coctail stirrers, coffee mugs and the cutest cat spoons that hang into the mug. Yep, bought a silver one! The art - various paintings, prints, note cards - is fun & whimsical. I loved the Purrmaid and the octopus with a cat head! So creative. The owner is delightful. She and the other owners created an inspiring space that encourages one to browse and marvel, and lets you do just that without any pressure. I told her how much I loved the shop and made a point to say, it's not just for crazy cat ladies. And then pondered over that terminology when people who have dogs, and won't go anywhere without them, are not called crazy dog ladies. She loved that perspective. Loving cats sometimes gets a bad wrap, but in this shop, crazy cat ladies, cat lovers, or anyone who appreciates creative art and gifts are welcome and can find enjoyment. I left with my new cat spoon and a tortoise shell cat clip for my hair, which I proudly wore that night! read more

This place is so fun with a very nice man providing great customer service. My friend has a tuxedo cat, and a well-known bookstore near me ran out at Christmastime of the plush tuxedo kitty toy that is tucked inside a can, but GiftyKitty had it in stock, and the man saved it for me to make it down to the store by closing. Such a cute kitty-themed store, and the interior glows in the dark with pretty colors when the lights are out. I will make my way back there earlier than closing next time because there is so much merchandise to look at, and there is Kate's Ice Cream next door that he recommended -- was a yummy stop for me before going home. read more

Am I a crazy cat lady? NO!!! But not for lack of trying. Because my husband won't let me get more cats. Booooooo!!! But in all fairness I agree. We can't have more cats with our lifestyle. Meaning, with kids, sports, a dog AND cats we can't have more and care for everyone properly. We sure do love our cats and dog. But this store is pretty EPIC If you're ON the path to being a crazy cat lady, this store will help you complete your quest. There is cat EVERYTHING. Purses, coin purses, stuffies, magnets, stickers, mobiles, journals, bottle openers, earrings, t-shirts, necklaces, bracelets, cups, key chains, hair accessories, tea steepers, I mean you name it, they have it. It's such a cute niche store. I absolutely loved every inch of this store. The owner, or at least who I assumed was the owner, was super kind and friendly and chatted to my kids about cats. This store was a complete surprise. I was visiting Portland and it was recommended to check out Mississippi Avenue for fun stuff to do. I didn't get a chance to check it out until it was night. I definitely wish I came during the day because I feel like it would really light up. This store is a cat lover's heaven. There are plushies, stickers, journals, hats, gloves, bottle openers, bookmarks, toys, wall art, signs, statues, clothing, anything you can think of, they will most likely have. The store is made up of a ton of local artists' products which I absolutely adore to support the community. Since I didn't have a lot of room to travel back with, I bought two pins for myself and a friend. If I was local, I definitely would have purchased a few more of the bigger items! read more

While out and about doing some Christmas shopping on Mississippi Avenue, I noticed this this adorable, kitty themed shop and knew, before my wife had even spotted it, that we were destined to head inside. As I've mentioned before, my wife is halfway to becoming a crazy cat lady (we have four!), so there would be no escaping the gravitational pull this store would have on her! Accepting the inevitable, I found myself charmed by this cute little store. I don't know how long it's been here, but it's certainly got quite a number of fans; the whole store filled up to capacity not long after we entered, with everyone fawning over the handmade goods and crafts, toys and accessories, and especially the incredible cat tree in the center, displaying dozens of dangling decorations. It's a good thing no cats were actually present in the store; the temptation to swat at these swaying souvenirs would be too much to resist! We purchased a cute kitty-patterned umbrella, and headed back out into the rain, now equipped stylishly against the weather, and ready to continue out Christmas shopping! But we'll definitely be back, as the shop is just too charming to ignore, and a definite must stop for any cat-aholic! read more

My boyfriend and I have three cats, so we had to stop in here to check this place out! They have some really cool things in here! Local artists sell art in here, so I always liked it. Some mosaics. Sculpture, mixed media, stuffed animals, cards, wall art, and so much more. I ended up buying a Querkle adult color by number book. It is different and it will take me awhile to complete one! The guy in the store was very friendly and offered suggestions etc... Some stuff in the store want me but it is definitely worth checking out if you are into cats! read more

This store is SO CUTE!! I went here today after getting donuts at Blue Star (yum) and fell in LOVE. There is local art all over the place and so much jewelry!!
