If I owned an adorable little shop in Portland's Pearl District, it would look just like Porch Light. Part gift shop, part plant shop, part purveyor of everything local, this small-but-mighty store has it all. From greeting cards to candles, and jewelry to succulents, I could easily have done all of my Christmas shopping during my recent visit. (And since, technically, there are a few more months until Xmas it's still a possibility that I'll be back to do just that!) The shop has a really friendly, cozy vibe, and the inventory is definitely "something for everyone" without being too campy or kitschy. I ended up buying a small gift, a card, and some cool modern wrapping paper; but if I had more time (and money) I would have left with an armload of houseplants and a new pair of earrings (or two). They've got everything displayed around the store - soap, paper, plants, pots, candles, journals, jewelry, accessories, bath and body products, and more. I had to do a couple circuits of the room just to see what's what. Their website has a shopping section as well so you can browse online before going in - or buy online! Sometimes it was hard to see price tags but the cashier knew their products well. Many things were pricey but it's nice to support a local shop and local maker when possible. As another review you were mentioned five months ago, the front clerk is extremely RUDE. I went up to the cashier to purchase two plants and one vase. One plant was already potted and the second plant I needed a little more potting soil so it would fit properly in the new vase. I asked if the sold any mini bags said she didn't have any for sale. She said they do however, do potting but since they close in three minutes she wouldn't have time to do that for me. NOTE: At the same time she let three other white people walk into the store and didn't tell them that she was closing. Like the reviewer said five months ago I get the feeling she was against me for some reason. Maybe because I had a teenage boy with me or maybe because I was black; I don't know which. I live in a high-rise in Seattle, and don't have any way of storing a large bag of potting soil for a 3" plant. Even a handful of potting soil would've been fine, if she would have given me a fistful and from there, I could've potted it at my place on my own. She never offered, had no compassion when I told her the story. I ended up instead leaving with one plant instead of with two and she cost of the business owner a sale. The other plan I purchased was the size of my palm and it cost to $24 so the place is costly and that could've been quite a sale if she would've also sold me the other two items (vase and mini plant). She lacked any problem solving ability, creativity and grace and she's no lady. They need to get somebody else in that store instead of a niece or a little family member. Somebody who wants to be there like the plant shoot in Leavenworth Washington. That place is worth your time. read more

I had passed Porch Light after a night out at a brewery and made it a point to return during business hours after window shopping. If I lived in the area, I would have left with several items like pots, but was worried about transporting them on the plane home. Thankfully after looking them up online, they ship! I'd highly recommend this unique boutique for gifts as there is a wide selection ranging from jewelry and nail polish to candles and stationary. Fun little Portland boutique! What I liked best about this shop was the soaps and candles. The fragrances were on par with the description and didn't come off too waxy or too perfumed. I've gotten picky with what kind of candles I buy and my experience here was excellent as the candles are of great quality. Same applies to the soaps that are carried here. read more

Horrible customer service!! I told the clerk I was looking for a gift for my sister and she just stared at me. I had to finally ask her if she could make some recommendations. She said she had no idea because she didn't know my sister.I asked her to show me the body care products and asked her what was vegan. She said she didn't know she made a few guesses but wasn't sure. Her attitude was hostile and rude. I got the impression that she was prejudiced against me.If the clerks are going to treat people like garbage then I would not recommend shopping here. There will never be a shortage of reworked retail concepts. Porch Light is basically an antique store that has been re-imaged (and decluttered) into a boutique experience. Apparently, this is Store #2, as I have so far missed the original store on Mississippi Avenue. The selection at Porch Light is premium priced, but the folks here have chosen well, their wares are attractively displayed, and it's pretty enjoyable to look around. I ended up with one of those metal stands that you stab your receipts on. And with the Owner's help, I managed to wrap it up and point it down in the suitcase so that it sailed right through Security. read more

I've been by this place dozens of times but never stopped in, mostly because it's on my 6:30 am running route. However, I'd vowed to return in the daylight and finally, in the midst of house-related errands today, found my chance. It's a lovely little shop full of decorative antique-rustic accessories like vases, glass bottles, old rolled-up maps, as well as a nice selection of handmade letterpress cards and simple understated jewelry. The thing that's most exiting for me is the large selection of Tatine candles. And not just any, but my absolute favorite scent ever: Tabac. If I could live inside this fragrance, I would, and I've never found another tobacco-based candle that comes close to capturing the olfactory beauty and complexity of this one. Of course that means I also looked for it for months unsuccessfully when I lived in Seattle, so I haven't had one in a couple of years. Bought two, of course. Clearly I'll be back whenever my candle supply needs restocking, and full of hope that Tabac will be in. The woman ringing up my purchases was familiar with my plight, mentioning that they themselves often go months in between shipments when they sell out. No matter; a source is nevertheless valuable to find, and I can't imagine visiting this shop and leaving without some nice thing regardless! read more

When I used to visit Porch Light Antiques in Oakland I always found something to bring home, even if I wasn't quite sure where I'd put it or quite what I'd do with my purchase. It was just that certain objects spoke to me (not in any sort of creepy way...). Then Kieran packed up & moved to Portland. I was sad, and even a bit miffed when a trendy, very pricey business took over the former space. Now I can scoot right on over to see all these lovely furnishings & dishes, glasses, & linens, as well as visit the Queen Bee of the shop, as well! It would be very easy to stock our house with farmhouse antiques since it's an 1880 farmhouse. BUT! Restraint must be used! We are trying to be a bit more modern & have even ventured into a sort of mid-century meets Victorian apothecary feel. Still, I find myself drawn, once again, to the comfort of Porch Light, the familiar glow of these well-loved items, and to the sense that these are furnishings someone really used. They are well lived in & I like the feel of something attractive as well as practical...something someone has handles, sat upon, or drank from. There is a great mix here of actual antiques & newer things, everything feels carefully & thoughtfully selected. This is a great place to find something, take it home, and love it! read more

Porch light offers a variety of "cute" things I'd love to decorate my apartment with...if I made $100,000 a year. Unfortunately I don't, so I feel ripped off just looking at the price tags. Vintage wooden crates that I could find at garage sales for $5 or less, are $38 here. I literally bought 4 wooden boxes to refurbish at a garage sale for $1 each the very next day I went to Porch Light. This store is so cute! The cuteness is what brought me in originally, and I wasn't expecting to find such reasonable prices! Compared to other similar boutique stores in the pearl, I'd say Porch Light is around half the price. Plants here are very well taken care of and so affordable. For $18 I was able to purchase four (small) plants! Other items like art prints, jewelry and mugs were under $25-$30. The staff was so nice and they have a cute little recipe box with all different plant care instructions to give you! read more

A lovely little shop on N.Mississippi. I ventured in and found all kinds of unique trinkets/decorative items/and furnishings from all eras. I ended up purchasing some antique china and a key ring made from old silverware, pretty neat stuff indeed!
