This office is why people go to Algodones. My wife and I hadn't been to a dentist after moving to the area during covid. She needed a deep cleaning that needed to be done in two sessions taking an hour each and cost $500 each. Sounded like a lot but they seemed to be caring and we assumed it would be done by a dentist not just a hygienist so we made an appointment. The morning of her appointment they called to say they could do both bottom and top the same day. She responded that she had an appointment an hour and a half after her appointment with them so that wouldn't work out. They said they could get both done in an hour. So here's the rub. Basic cleaning takes an hour and is done by a hygienist and costs under $100. Turns out the deep cleaning was done by a hygienist, not a dentist, takes an hour and costs $500. If you do both at the same time, it takes an hour and costs $1,000. They referred her to a specialist for a root canal and supplied xrqys to him. He wanted to do his own X-rays and there was no discussion about cost. After the X-rays they confirmed she needed a root canal and the cost would be $2,500. She declined feeling that cost was excessive and was then told she would have to pay $500 for the x-rays. read more

My experience with Dr. Garner was not a good one. Not only did he just leave me in excruciating pain, not fixing my broken molar, but he decided to just send me to a dental surgeon because I am also having an issue with my widom tooth so he didn't have to bother with me. He spent maybe 5 minutes with me before stating he wouldn't help me, leaving food impacted into my wisdom tooth instead of rinsing it and leaving me with a molar that is completely broken off in half. I happened to look at my phone, it was 4:42pm as I was walking out the door with my husband and I look over to the right and see Dr. Garner hauling tail out the side door to leave. So now I know why he didn't want to bother with me, he wanted to leave instead. The look of surprise on his face when we made eye contact in the parking lot said a lot. Not only did he NOT relieve my pain that has kept me up for 4 days he also gave me this. Less then 12 hours after my awful visit, I woke up with a swollen painful lip that has blistered. If I can attach photos, I will. Today is the second day with the lip blisters in the corner of my mouth, the same side he was using the Instruments to look and either he used dirty gloves, or dirty instruments. I did not walk into the office with this rash of oozing blisters and since it is spreading, I may need to go to the urgent care for medical assistance. I would never recommend this place. How is someone like him a dentist. He did not care what so ever about my pain or the quality of care he was giving. I am seriously considering filing a complaint with my insurance and the Health Dept. read more

I am a traveler on assignment here in Yuma, Az and set up an appointment with Gila Ridge Dental. I saw Dr. Nguyen and would highly recommend her. I have been told in the past that I NEEDED dentistry work which I would consider elective such as replacing silver filings with white ones. However, Dr. Nguyen was very honest in her consultation with me and did not find any imminent work that I needed. I recently had my dental cleaning done and my experience couldn't had been better. Dr. Garner is absolutely amazing, love him and recommend his practice to everyone. He listens to his patients, he's professional and kind. He explains all procedures with clarity and honesty. My husband had a root canal done at this dental office. The dentist put too much cement in the canal going to the jaw. My husband was in extreme pain and had to go to an emergency dental visit. Where he was told that the dentist that did my husband's root canal screwed up. My husband had to pay for some pain medicine as well. As antibiotics until he could get to the specialist. We had a meeting.Aja the office manager. She sent my husband to a specialist of their own. Through two visits and two more sets of antibiotics, my husband is feeling better. I have asked the dental office that made this mistake for a reimbursement of the money that we paid out of our pocket. I also asked them for the money that we had to pay for the prescriptions. This all added up to $933. They reimbursed us $215. I don't think $933 is much to ask for when my husband went through a lot of pain and had to take time out to go to the dentist and a specialist. This is a really great Dentistry. Dr. Garner has worked with me for the past 2 years to get my mouth back into shape and healthy again. Nice! Then there is Jessica. She cleans my teeth. She does really nice work and is fun to visit with. To put this into perspective, I've been to some real looser dentists in the past. They hurt me... they cost a lot but didn't fix my problem, they smelled like (you know you can't smell vodka on your breath) vodka. Dr Thorson is great. He put a temporary on my front tooth to get me by until I can get my teeth fixed. He explained my options and what was wrong with my veneers. I got twelve veneers in Mexico on Monday and by Tuesday one had popped off. All the veneers are coming off and I will end up with caps. The Mexican dentist ruined my teeth. Veneers cover the front of your teeth and a little around the edges. The other dentist ground down on the back side of my teeth trying to get my bottom teeth to fit correctly behind my top teeth, I ended up with sandpaper feeling teeth with super sharp parts. Dr Thorson thought they were temporary veneers as they are of such poor quality, that is besides the poor dentistry that was performed. I am do happy I found this place. I literally chose this dental office out of scream different mailings I had received. The office and staff were inviting. Once I inquired that they accepted my YUHSD insurance with Summit, I was able to book an appointment within a week's time...this is unheard of in my experience! Had an initial appointment. Gave them an excellent rating. Everything after that was horrible. Appointments always changed by the office, sometimes the day before. They prefer to do multiple procedures that take hours, which caused a lot of additional pain to me. Deceptive billing practices; everything always cost more than they would tell you; plus, they charged costs for their additional medical procedures that you had to pay during the pandemic. No one returned phone calls for six months after we questioned the billing. Second regular check up, which is fully covered by insurance, was a full appointment. They were in a hurry to clean teeth, not take x-rays, and sell additional products. Be very cautious if you use this dental practice. read more

Best dentist I've ever been to. From the moment I walked in the door for my first appointment, I was completely impressed. My last dentist had a dirty, dark waiting room with unfriendly receptionists. Gila Ridge is quite the opposite! The office is bright and fresh with a modern design. All the people I've come in contact with so far seem genuinely happy to work there. Dr. Thorson is one of the most attentive and compassionate dentists I've seen. I recently had to come in for some emergency care and Dr. Thorson called the next day to see how I was feeling. That's the kind of care that keeps clients coming back, and I really appreciate it. I have been to several different dentists here in Yuma and by far Gila Dental is the best. From the moment I walk in the door until the time I walk out, everyone is polite, knowledgeable, respectful and on top of their job. They do the best they can to accommodate me. When I have needed work done, I am always given paperwork showing me, in detail, what is to be done, how much my insurance will pay for the procedure and how much my cost will be. When they are unsure of how much insurance will cover, they have always informed me that they can not guarantee the exact amount. Inhavr never been charged differently or have not known the chargr may differ than the initial quote. Dr. Garner is great all the technicians are great. Accepts Metlife. Receptionist are helpful and great figuring out my insurance stuff. Never had any problems with figuring out insurance issues. They always let me know how much coverage I had left for the year etc. My daughter was seen on a moments notice for what I thought was an emergency (landed up being her tooth coming in crooked). I had broke my denture right before Thanksgiving, they took me in without an appointment, repaired my denture, and opened their office just for me on a Saturday which they are normally closed and fit my denture back. My updated review has to do with the woman who handles the insurance. My husband needed to have a deep scaling which I knew should have been covered under our insurance. It was a new policy that had a 1 year wait for major procedures. We waited the 1 year waiting period then had the work he needed done in January 2018. A few weeks later he was back for a follow up visit, which included another cleaning. When we were getting ready to leave, I was then informed I had a $500 bill to pay! I was in total shock! She then told me I could set up a payment plan, are you kidding me?! I asked her why I had not been informed before all the work was done that it wouldn't be covered, she then handed me a printout of my insurance policy, all 21 pages. I paid the bill and left with no intention of ever going back there. When I returned home, I called my insurance company. They said the procedures my husband had done were covered as of 2/1/2018. If she had bothered to ask when or if the coverage was to take effect, this whole thing would have been avoided. I've worked in dental offices for many years, I know the questions to ask when inquiring about insurance. She was not thorough in doing her job and it cost me a lot of money. read more

Please do not go here. They let you sit FOREVER, and the receptionist talked non stop. My husband was in the back for an hour. They took xrays which was painful. After 45 minutes the doctor finally came in and talked about everything but his teeth. The dentist proceeded to tell him he had to come back for a general teeth cleaning. When I made the appointments for the both of us they reassured me they were going to do the cleaning. Please try somewhere else. There is no politness, or to tell you they are sorry! Amazing place, staff is all very friendly, clean place, they offer music and movies while having work done, very empithetic staff for scared people like me. My son (who is 5 years old) and I both see Dr. Thorson and he is a great dentist. My son is shy and was nervous about going to the dentist but he is always great with him. My son actually looks forward to his appointments. If I had checked in last week these guys would have received 5 stars. Dr Thorson was very nice, very professional, and very good at what he does. Unfortunately if today is any representation of what's to come from this practice Dr Boeskin is going to lose these guys a lot of business. His bedside manner is appalling. The fact that he treats patients he has never even met like the dirt on the bottom of his shoe is completely unacceptable. I tried to explain a billing issue and commented that I had spoke with billing but they didnt know what was going on with the insurance. I tried to explain that the billing lady and I had made a plan for me to check with my insurance but before I could Dr Boeskin basically kicked me out and told me to reschedule with someone else. With dentists like this here in Yuma it's no wonder people are choosing to cross the border and get all their dental in Mexico instead!
