Title: Disappointing Experience - Lack of Fair Play and Communication…read more We signed our son up for GYFL 10U flag football expecting a positive, developmental experience. Unfortunately, that wasn't what we experienced. The first practice, the coach didn't show up. The second practice was largely spent lecturing 10-year-olds for about 45 minutes instead of running drills or helping them develop skills. During games, my son sat the entire first half both games and only got about two plays in the second half. At this level, we expected more consistent participation and opportunities for all players. When I tried to address this, the conversation was difficult and didn't lead to any resolution. The coach maintained that playing time was being handled evenly, which did not match what we observed. Additionally, my son was singled out during practice for wearing specific college team hat that the coach didn't like. He stated he couldn't ever remember his name and therefore would refer to him by a derogatory reference to that team. That felt unnecessary and could have been handled more appropriately. I also reached out to the league hoping for some follow-up or clarification, but the concern didn't seem to go anywhere. Youth sports should be about development, inclusion, and building confidence. We were hoping for a more positive and structured experience. I'd encourage GYFL to place more emphasis on coaching oversight, communication with parents, and ensuring all kids are given fair opportunities to participate.

We got the director involved and he pretty much said tough luck the girls can't play boys in the same group and if you have a problem you need to forfeit the game and find a different league to play on. We tried to find a comprise but he did not want to entertain any ideas. The director was absolutely worthless. The director said they could all play with 2 different footballs and took off the field because he was coaching another game. The boys tried there best but due to the size difference of the 10U girls and our 8U boys, the girls were aggressive and encouraged by their coach and parents, to physically hurt our kids. Finally, we got kicked out of the game because the older girls kept physically hurting one of the fast players on our team which then caused his tooth to bleed and become loose. Again, encouraged by the coach, parents and refs. These refs only flagged our kids not the other team. (Cardinals). Warning to others who are thinking of joining this league. Spend your money somewhere else, if you have a issue the director is going till you to leave because he already got your money in his pocket. See the following picture of director guy and size difference between the girls and boys. This league is disgusting and I would strongly advise you not to give your money to this league. I will be expecting a phone call from someone other than your worthless director!

There is a $5 gate fee for anyone over the age of 16. They have 8 fields which have been built as replicas of famous ballparks and the field offers stadium style seating. Sliders sports grill is located on the north and south side of the complex. You can watch your childs game from inside of the restaurant from the windows, which is pretty awesome. You don't have to miss your child's game if you're grabbing a bite to eat or needing to go inside to cool off. Bring some cash for their gaming machines inside of the restaurant. The bar only offers seltzers and beer. Their Ben's soft pretzels are the best! If you like white queso, get a side of this for your pretzel, yum! We have enjoyed all of their food, so far nothing was bad. If your child needs some batting practice, check out their batting cages near the main entrance of the park. They have a playground located next to the south restaurant. This is a plus for children who are not in a tournament to entertain themselves. I do wish there was a playground next to the north restaurant. My son usually plays on north side so my 5 year old can't go over to the playground unless someone is willing to supervise. The complex also offers your indoor sports programs year around. They offer indoor soccer league play, soccer skills training, lacrosse, preschool classes and yoga. See you in the near future!

It has large fields with fun backdrops, an indoor restaurant with seats by the window so you can enjoy the game with air conditioning on those hot AZ days, and indoor bathrooms! They also serve beer, including a couple of craft beers on draft. That was exciting to me because I've never been able to drink a beer while watching a girls' softball tournament. I got a hazy IPA from Four Peaks, along with chicken tenders and fries. The chicken was good. Fries were lightly battered, which is not my preference, but they were still pretty good. Finished my food inside, but went back out to the stadium seats because you can't hear the game from inside, so it wasn't as exciting to watch. Notes: -For any tournaments hosted by outside organizations (not the town of Gilbert), there is a $5 fee at the gate for non-Gilbert residents age 16 and over. They do ask to see ID. -Online it says no food or drink allowed, except for water.

The only complaint is that there are three courts and the referees whistle is hard to hear because there are 3 courts and at least 2 games going on at one time. Game time can be chaotic with balls entering the courts but that would be an easy fix if they'd utilize the dividing nets they have set up. My disappointment is with the league. The refs are ok. Like any league there's good ones and ones who could maybe use some more training. At the start of the season, the teams were pretty well matched. They do roster checks at the beginning of the season but we were told from then on it's the opposing coaches job to do the roster check for whoever they are playing. As a result we played multiple teams throughout the season who suddenly gained older players right around playoffs. Some of the boys even joked with some players asking how old they were and they confirmed they were on one of the older teams. It was obvious to everyone else that there were kids playing down but when we asked we were told that they already did a pre-season roster check and it was the coaches responsibility to do follow up checks. I would think that was part of what we are paying for the league to handle? The boys had a great season either way but it always leaves a bitter taste to watch teams do shady stuff and go unchecked. I would recommend they look at doing more roster checks themselves throughout the season, especially for playoffs. In response to the business: Thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate your perspective, though my experience has been different. I have multiple children who have participated in a variety of sports leagues over the years, and many of those leagues conduct their own roster verification checks throughout the season, particularly as playoffs approach. While it would be ideal if everyone consistently acted with integrity, the reality is that safeguards are often necessary to ensure fair competition. For that reason, I believe roster verification should be a league responsibility rather than something left solely to coaches and teams. Over the past few weeks, I personally heard concerns about roster compliance being raised by parents from multiple teams to league staff. Given the number of concerns being expressed, I was surprised that no additional review appeared to take place. Despite these issues, the kids still had a great season, and I want to emphasize that my concerns are not directed at the players or their families. My concern is with the small number of coaches who may be willing to bend the rules to gain a competitive advantage. Consistent roster checks help protect the integrity of the league and send a clear message that all teams will be held to the same standards.

Specific to the Gilbert/Mesa league…read more Great Experience - My son has been playing flag football and basketball with i9 since 2018, and I've coached most of his teams. Our experience with the organizers and refs have almost always been great, and the few exceptions were understandable and/or dealt with. The coaches are all volunteer parents - so you get out of it what you put into it. If you don't like how the team is run, you should volunteer and try a season yourself... you just might love it! If your coach is not playing every kid pretty close to equally, let them know, and let the league office know. If they don't set this expectation on day one, ask! You should be able to switch teams. Coaches in this league who don't spread it around need to hear it from parents and/or get the boot. If you think that your kid is the next LeBron or Barry Sanders, go put them in a hyper-competitive league and see how they do. As a coach, I know that the parents have entrusted me with their kids to give them a chance to play and have fun. If I win every game but only played 5 kids, I failed. If I lose every game, but every kid had fun AND still wants to play again, then I succeeded. Any coach who can't say the same needs to go manage a fantasy football team or something and leave the coaching to those of us who will do the job correctly. Sadly, we are aging out this year so we won't get to keep playing after this season.

Every week a kid from the team earned a medal for a special characteristic that they brought to the team. That is why I chose i9 for my younger son . Same age , same program My son did NOT even have a COACH this year. Every week, parents would just have the kids take turns batting off the tee until the game started. No communication , no staff reaching out to try to fix the situation. It was like I paid 200$ to i9 so that I could take my son to a park. I have zero clue how i9 would do nothing to support an entire team . I am disappointed and I will be sure to steer any parents looking for a quality program away from I9.
