I called Gilbert Upholstery to get a quote to replace the foam in a couch cushion as well as replace the zipper in the cover. I was told it would be $40-45. So, I brought it to their house to have the work done. I had to ask the man if he wanted my contact information, otherwise, I don't think he would have asked. I then had to follow-up to find out when it would be finished. I ended up calling 2-3 different times before it was done. It was only 2-3 weeks, which was fine. When it was completed, I was told it would be $75 from the wife and I had a voicemail message from the husband that it would be $30. I picked it up and asked what happened to the original price of $40-$45 and was told that was the price for the foam only without the labor. I didn't think that was right as how was I supposed to know it didn't include the labor. So, I agreed to pay $50. At one point, the wife offered to just give it to me for free, but I didn't think that was fair. The work was good, but the business side of the service was very unprofessional. read more

Having spent 2 years trying to find a sectional sofa to work in our mid century living room proved to be exceedingly difficult! Everything "new" was so poorly made and ridiculously expensive. Being a mid century designer, I finally decided to find a true vintage mid century sofa. I finally found one made in 1953, that fit our space and design style perfectly, but it needed new cushions and upholstery. We took it to Gilbert Upholstery and so thankful that we did! Not only did they bring our sectional back to its original beauty, they went above and beyond to make sure the quality was improved upon and put in extra support and upgraded all the little details that most people wouldn't even notice!! We called Gilbert Upholstery as wanted to see what we could get done with our sectional and love seat. Multiple cushions were sagging in since our dogs love to lay on the back of them. The cushions we sat on were also starting to sink in a little but not too terrible for a sectional that was three years old. Anyway, they came over and gave us a quote after looking at the sectional and love seat. For everything that Ed was going to do, it was very reasonable and he explained the whole process very well. Having the cushions re-stuffed was also going to be much cheaper than getting new furniture. He was able to get the work completed within the next couple of days and we couldn't have been happier. Ed and Isabelle were fantastic! We were interested in having 5 dining chairs redone with fabric to replace the rattan that was showing its age. We also needed an assessment on our sectional with double ottomans. They came out and explained what they could do and after a visit to their shop picked out new fabric for the chairs and were shown what type of foam could be used to perk up the ottomans and make them look new again. The finished products look beautiful. Ed takes great pride in his work and knows his business. Isabelle is the perfect backup for a delightful team to work with. Our living room furniture needed a midlife "refresh". Cushions and pillows had worn out long ago although fabric was wearing well. All pieces were uncomfortable so a call to Gilbert Upholstery was placed. Isabelle & Ed came out and really listened to what we wanted our furniture to be. Five pieces completed in less than a week with strapping added to give better support as well as a higher grade/denser foam seat cushions. Back pillows were all restuffed and sewn by hand. I had a favorite chair to be recovered and was new to the area so looked on Yelp and found Gilbert Upholstery. What a wonderful find. I wanted to incorporate a guilt and fabric into the chair not easy but the wife and husband team were wonderful. He took great care in the design and placement of the quilt and it looks like a designer chair. They also did another chair and were helpful in telling me what type of fabrics they had or where I could go for other fabrics. I would highly recommend this wonderful couple and the excellent work they do. When I finally get settled there on my list for my open house that is how mush I liked them and the job they did. Ed and Isabella are awesome! I took my couch cushions to them after my kids jumped on them and broke the springs. I got quotes from other upholsterers who wanted to replace the entire cushion insides for hundreds of dollars. The couch is 10 years old so I wasn't going to put that kind of money into it. May as well buy a brand new one for that price. Ed took a look at it and said he could salvage the springs and repack them with a thin layer of new foam for way less! He parks on the street and has turned his garage into an upholstery shop so he can help his customers more. He has all the equipment inside his garage and He works at home like many other skilled craftsman. Ed redesigned the back of the bench so it would complement the dining chairs that would be used in the same grouping. He also added complementary arms to the bench. I had them change out the cushion in two sofas and I am amazed at the quality of the work. The couch is more comfortable now that when it was brand new. They fixed several deficiencies in the manufacture of the couch as well. I had the manufacture come out twice due to issues with the cushions breaking down after a couple of years. My friend had a chair that was really old and she loved it. She asked me if I knew of anyone who could fix it. I mentioned this place and took the chair there for her. I could not believe it was the same chair when I got it back. The work was outstanding and all the wood had been cleaned up. The fabric was perfect and she loves her chair again. I contacted Gilbert Upholstery with the intention of having my couch cushions restuffed. Subsequent to their visit, found out that the frame didn't have enough support (strapping). They added strapping to both the base and back of the sectional and now it is more comfortable than ever. Their price was very reasonable and their service was excellent.
