Stopped in for a round on Monday afternoon. Greens fees were incredibly reasonable at only 30 dollars for 18 with cart. The course was in great shape, with a highlight being the green complexes which are interesting and challenging. The driving range was also well maintained. The only negative aspect of the experience was a the pace of play. There were many single players which put a lot of pressure on our group of two, even though we were playing a scramble. I think this will no longer be an issue once the front nine reopens and players are more spread out. Would recommend. read more

Parking: Small bag drop area, very tight to get by if not stopping. Well manicured parking area. Pro Shop: Quite small for an Arnold Palmer course, scarce inventory...yes a little later in the year but played 36 holes the two previous days and they still had a nice layout with inventory and sale racks. Course: Pretty nice course, very hilly with challenging holes. Management: Some of the worst I have ever seen even for a public course. The tee times are too close together (8min apart). There is no starter on a Saturday afternoon and worse yet, no ranger to keep up the pace of play. It took us a little over 6 hours to play 18 holes...absolutely brutal. Overall: I would look at other courses in the area, you would expect more from an Arnold Palmer course, but it looks like they care about the name on the website more than the course and players. read more

I've played many good rounds here over the years and always loved the challenging layout and most of all the conditions. Visited this past week only to see that it seems the conditions weren't what they used to be, which was disappointing to say the least. I understand we had some heavy rains recently, but other courses I played (also public ) didn't have the same issue, so I assumed as such. Clearly wrong on my part. But the real reason I'm giving this one star and would love to give less if I could is because of the person that's managing this course. I wrote a review in a Facebook group for CT golfers, and following that I get a call from this manager. He proceeds on telling me why the course was in the shape it was in which is ok, but where it took an interesting turn is him telling me I can't write reviews like that where others can see. Since when? Didn't know I wasn't allowed to exercise my right to freedom of speech. Continuing on this he then proceeds to tell me I'm doing this because I'm young. 1. That's insanely condescending as I'm 40 years old and don't need to be spoken to like a child. 2. Maybe it's more of a problem of them not being able to take feedback ? 3. Just because I paid $38 for a "championship" course, Im supposed to be super grateful ? If it were in championship conditions then I would gladly pay more without second thought. But after this experience with this "manager" I felt I paid way more than I should have. Especially being talked down to like I'm some child.. That person really needs a lesson on how to take feedback. In his words " we don't need your business " All good, dealing with this manager and the course being in rough shape during peak grow season makes it that much easier to never want to go back. Gillette Ridge has been back for a couple years or so now, I believe. It had closed a few years ago before I ever found time to play. No great reason why, on my part, but I finally got the opportunity to play a few weeks ago. What a fun course, and it's maintained well above average. The greens were very smooth and surprisingly quick considering it seems to be raining way too much recently. Some very challenging holes as well. My only complaints would be minor ones such as the big sand traps could use a rake or two extra, and they seemed to be struggling with people fixing ball marks on the soft greens. I fixed way too many for how few greens I hit. Lots of parking available, 19th hole is nice with local beers and a good view from the tables, bathroom was clean, carts were fine (no GPS or anything however), nice yardage markers and pin location indication, nice putting green and driving/practice range available as well (though we didn't partake). Not overly convenient for me, but I'll be back. read more

Booked three players for late afternoon 9 holes- I had no clubs as I'm traveling and meeting my daughter and her manfriend for a short round of golf and expected a loaner set or reasonably priced rental set for like less than $30. The guy at the golf shop would not negotiate and insisted that my only option was to rent a set of clubs for $60.00 for nine holes. Total ripoff. Plus the clubs were like Big 5 bargain basement Taylormade junk. The course was not great either. No second cut on the fairways, just deep rough and the greens were like playing on the moon. Cannot recommend this golf course. Find somewhere else. read more

I came in for a private event that did not involve golf. Can you imagine that? Our 20 person event was in the bar area. I was a little disappointed that there were only two beers on draft, but luckily one was a good IPA. The food that came out was really solid. I really like the chicken wings and the brussel sprouts. Even the salad was nicely, lightly dressed. The music that was playing was pretty old school, which was sort of weird, but at least it gives us something to talk about. I have no other golf course bars compare, but this did the trick for the occasion. read more

Groupon got us to have dinner here, which was quite an accomplishment since we've lived 9 miles away for 25 years and never set foot in here before. The restaurant is at the back of the clubhouse on the first floor. The space is divided into a bar, a dining room, and a huge outdoor patio overlooking the course. We ate outside tonight, saw a brief sun shower and two rainbows !! They have quite a nice Happy Hour deal - fifty cent wings, $4 beers, and a nice pitcher of $15 sangria. Nothing very adventurous on the menu - salads and sandwiches and pub style appetizers. We had a lobster roll, a salmon daily special (with rice and broccoli), and that pitcher of sangria - the meal made quick work of our $50 Groupon,. Yes, we did order on the expensive side to fully deplete that $50, but we noticed that a lot of the sandwiches and burgers ran $9 or $10. If we went with sandwiches and iced teas, we would have probably spent $30 or so. The patio view was pleasant, the server was very polite and attentive, and we enjoyed shooting the breeze with the golfers, This was a real nice meal in a pretty setting. Went to the restaurant for dinner. It is a decent sized area now that the back porch is finished and enclosed. There is also a bar area to sit. There is a pretty good beer selection with local breweries represented. I had the Cubano sandwich, which was large and flavorful. There were big, moist chunks of slow cooked pork and salty ham, pickles, and sauce. Not a true Cuban sandwich but still very good. My wife had the lobster roll, which was a good size and had lots of meat and avacado. We both agreed we'd be back to try the rest of the menu even when we don't play a round. read more

I played here for the first time and fell in love. The course was very fun, challenging and relaxing all at the same time. Greens and holes very well kept and manicured and is gorgeous throughout. The club pro was very friendly and nice, and the cart guy Johnny Baker was super helpful, friendly and has a wealth of knowledge of the courses of the surrounding areas. He seems to have a strong passion for the game and it shows! All in all we will be making this course a "once a month" at least during the peak season! read more

I am beating myself over the head with my 7 iron for not joining years ago. My friends have talked about how great it is but I thought it was a bit too far of a drive. Boy was I all wrong. This club is such a great value and the members are so nice. I have met a ton of people and made a bunch of friends. The employees are fantastic. My favorite is Chris . He is the outdoor operations manager. He is so friendly and professional. As a member friend of mine says, Chris is the reason why the club is so successful!! Gillette Ridge has been completely renovated! The course is amazing! I golf all over the country and it's still one of my favorite courses to play at. Aside from the course the restaurant/bar is top notch. Very relaxed atmosphere, clean, food is second to none and be sure to ask for Lauren! She is the most genuine person you will meet! She makes your restaurant/drinks experience worth going even without golfing. If you haven't gone be rest assured if you do... you will go back! read more

It's an absolute shame what the managing company has done to this course. 6 years ago, this was one if the most challenging, and pristine, courses in the state. Now it's a poorly maintained shell of its former self. 2 stars only because of the reasonable prices and POTENTIAL that this course has. I'm BEGGING the ownership to get their act together! I have to say that this golf course experience is heading in the wrong direction. In a recent visit, my group experienced some below 'par' golf course maintenance. The course was very wet and yet they were still watering the course. The tee boxes, fairway and even the greens were in very bad condition; there were divets everywhere; the greens were very bumpy, as no one fixes their divets marks. Overall for the price, its not bad, but I would prefer to play somewhere else where the conditions are better for the price. The golf carts were gas, very loud and were borrowed from another golf course (the name was on the front of the cart) and it looked like it was recently ran into a tree (cracks everywhere). This course can play very long, including one par 5, that can be played at 600+ yards. I would recommend playing from the white tees for the average golfer. Bring lots of golf balls because there is allot of water (pond) on this course. Also the ponds are green and look like a swamp. read more

I came here for some driving range practice after work. I am still a new golfer, so maybe this is normal, but it looked as if no one was coming over and maintaining the driving range area. There were empty buckets everywhere. There were also a lot of broken tees littering the ground. I assume someone should be coming to clean these up from time to time? I would like to give the driving range a 2. The clubhouse, on the other hand, was great. They were offering some happy hour specials and we had great service sitting at the bar. They have a great patio to sit out on too when it gets a little warmer. The clubhouse gets a 4. So, overall - I gave 3 stars to accommodate the messy driving range area. read more

This place did a complete 180!! Garth, the new Superintendent definitely knows what he's doing!! This course is the best layout around!! Lucas Hitchcock, the Head pro, is a great guy that has the proshop stocked!! Javier, the chef is putting out incredible food!! This place blows Wintonbury Hills out of the water! If you're looking for an overpriced, overrated golf course with no character and mediocre food, go to wintonbury. This past Sunday I hosted my granddaughters first birthday party. I can't say enough great things about the staff, the venue and the food! Everyone was so helpful and GM, Jordan was a breeze to work with on the planning and menu. The event space is beautiful, with windows on all sides, overlooking the pond, the gorgeous fall colors and the golf course. Just finished a five hour round at Gillette Ridge on a Saturday; teed it up at 08:30, got done at 13:40!!! Waited on every single tee box, every single shot for the group in front of us. Not a soul on the course in front of them!!!! Ranger drove past us once, just kept going. Ridiculous for that kind of money!!! Should get someone with some people skills in that pro shop in the morning!!! Some personnel are obviously not morning people!!! read more

I'm a big fan of Gillette Ridge - especially their "Players Club" membership. I live 5 minutes away, so it's really convenient for me to come over and hit balls on the range when I have a spare 30-60 minutes. And on a weekday afternoon, I'm usually able to get in 9 holes in 90 minutes. Very friendly staff. Overall, it's a great value - highly recommended. read more

Came here the other night to watch the USA soccer game and had a nice time. The place wasn't very packed but had a few people at the bar. It was happy hour during the time we were there and I believe beers are about $2.50 (maybe cheaper). I've eaten lunch here before and it's alright. Nothing to write home about but definitely a nice lunch spot for nearby businesses and/or the golfers. read more

Day started by arriving at course. No carts available. Checking in they couldn't find our tee time (person looking at wrong day). Starter unfriendly and tee times running 15 minutes late. People we were matched up with were awesome. Course unbearably slow. No ranger to speed up play. Best part of round was bartender and meal after we completed 16 holes. Couldn't take slow play. Spoke to folks in pro shop after round, useless and didn't care. You can get better value elsewhere. read more

I recently played here for $25 with a Cart. Great deal, to bad this course is a shell of it could can be. It seems NO ONE repairs ball marks on greens... Huge patches of clover that swallow balls... The bunkers are ATROCITIES... Cavernous run offs cut through the bunkers.... No sand on them... Pretty much unplayable... Slightly errant shots disappear... We played on August 2nd. The course is nicely maintained and challenging, however our round took 5 hours and 15 minutes to complete. Terrible !!!!! We only saw the "ranger" once on the course. When we told him how backed up and slow it was his response was "pretty much on every hole", before he drove off. On EVERY tee box we got to there was still the foursome ahead of us waiting to tee off. This wasn't the first time we've played here and experienced these wait times. The golf course staff seems like they're trying to run a "class" operation, but no one seems to care about pace of play !!! read more

Course was in great shape but had a very disrespectful (and somewhat dangerous) 4 foursome behind us for most of the round. Pace was slow in general (2 foursomes directly in front of us) and I guess this got the group behind us frustrated. Around 8th hole, they began to hit into us, first one ball flying by us just as we got back into the cart to go to the next hole. On the 9th hole, we had just finished and gotten into the cart when the cart roof was struck by a ball. Starter was there, as the 9th tee ends right near the 1st tee. Asked him to speak with the group behind us, detailing the above and our concerns, and he gave us a halfhearted, lackluster "Ok". On 11th hole we finished putting, were still on the green when one of the people in the group hit in from about 150 yards out, ball landing 10-15 feet from us on the green. After this, we confronted them, (they were clearly drinking (we were not), words were said that I won't repeat and we told them to just go ahead of us. Very disappointed that the starter did not take our concerns more seriously. Truly ruined most of the game for us...not sure if we will be coming back. There are a lot of very nice public courses in our area where that type of behavior isn't tolerated and the staff would have put a stop to it immediately. read more

A yummy burger on Saturday. So much appreciated as it was neither lunch or dinner time, but in between time. The barkeep was amiable. It was the July 4th EXTENDED holiday weekend, and what a magnificent day, I assume regular 'retired' golfers, corporate management and their visitors were playing on land and sea....far away. But I stopped in not because of anticipating tales of duffery, but because I recall this little bistro from ten years ago. Now owned by CIGNA, and its on the most exquisite and well maintained campus, the cook did please. I asked for a burger with cheese. Nothing fancy. I also ordered fries which came in abundance. Oh my but they were crisps. The burger bun was buttery and toasted warm. Don't you loathe when a decent burger is served on a cold doughy bun? The hamburger was de-lish. With a coke, it came to $18.61. On this day, it was a neat little 'hideaway' far from the maddening crowd of burger belching brewsters. But of course, it was a rather slow afternoon. So I think I was fortunate. Wishing them good success. And just think, if something is not pleasing gastronomically, its part of the CIGNA Health umbrella. Smiles. [PS. I really enjoyed this course. It was well maintained throughout. It was challenging but not impossible. I never felt like I got cheated. The greens are creative and vary greatly as does the approach to them. The course featured so many different types of holes and it was really just a great experience all around. There are a few holes where you can easily find yourself in a very tough spot if you don't hit a great first shot, so it can be tricky. I thought the greens played a bit slower than I had expected, but they were in very good condition. There are a lot of blind shots so you really have to be careful and considerate of that. As a beginner I shot a 101 which is the best I have ever done, and I think it was because I genuinely enjoyed my time on this course and just felt relaxed due to the ambience. read more

Just returned from my 2nd visit to the restaurant. GREAT service, very welcoming and friendly...and the food was awesome...Tried the Cuban Sandwich this time - one of the best I have ever had, even compared to Florida! My wife had a chicken salad, which was also excellent, and the pricing is very reasonable. This restaurant has just re-opened, having been closed along with the golf course for over a year. They have done a great job of re-vamping the place and the greens. The view from the glass-enclosed dining room overlooks the outdoor dining terrace - and the pond and greens. It will be a phenomenal view this autumn! The bar is quite comfy as well. They are open to 8pm for happy hour currently and are working on a dinner menu which will be available soon. SO glad the place is back up under new management and is looking great! read more
