Had a haircut here partly because it was the only one around open at 8am. I got my haircut by the Asian gentleman. It's actually really bad as none of my sides lined up and a trim for him was cutting off 3/4 of my top hair. My combover ended up being a 90s Spikey hair deal because of how short it was cut. I even showed a picture of the hair I wanted from my previous cut just to make it easier for my first time with different barbers. I only laugh about the situation because it was my fault for settling for this service. Spend a few more bucks at a place that won't make you embarrassed for the next two weeks. read more

It was my first time coming here and i just wanted a clean 2 and 1 hair cut. The place was empty with only the Asian barber there. Sat down and told him I wanted a 2 and 1 haircut with a line up. Fastest haircut I've ever gotten. He was rough with the clippers and when I got him I realized my line up was uneven and the back of my head wasn't fully cut. Not coming back again. read more

I love this place! But be warned. There are 2 Asian guys that work here. DO NOT go to the heavier set one. That guy has no idea what he's doing. The first thing that tipped me off is when he placed the paper strip on my neck AFTER he tighten the apron around my neck. I don't think he realizes what that strip of paper is used for. Next, he's really rough with the electric trimmer. He was bouncing it off the side of my head the entire time. And when he was cleaning up my neck and sides, he'd scrape my neck with the clippers. I've gotten hair cuts from here before and I have always been happy. This guy killed it for me. I literally had to stop the haircut early because I didn't want him to mess up my hair worse than he already did. Besides the guy who messed up my hair, this is a really nice place to get a decently priced haircut. I'm going to continue to go here. Just not to that heavy set Asian guy. read more

This barber shop is AMAZING! I went in on a recommendation from somebody that frequents this shop, but without any expectations. I left knowing this is the BEST BARBER SHOP in the entire West Valley. Upon entering, Jessica kindly welcomed me in and told me she was going to be my barber. She proceeded to ask me how I like to style my hair, as well as how I wanted it cut, asking questions that most barbers don't bother to ask. I knew I was in great hands! The haircut didn't take long, nor was it rushed. It was the PERFECT HAIRCUT! I did not need to ask for anything to given more attention. It was perfect. As for the price, it amazed me how little they wanted for a haircut. It was only $15 for the greatest haircut I have had in years. For the record, I get my haircut as a medium Fade, starting with a "1" on the sides, and have a sort of pompadour on top. What kind of babershop doesn't have razors to do a razor fade or even a line-up???? Extremely disappointed. Just to be clear - I did get the crappy haircut from this babershop. I asked for a razor fade and was NOT told that it wasn't possible, so I sat on the chair and after only being on the chair for 15 minutes and the guy telling okay you're done, I realized he wasn't panning on shaving at all. I'm not trying to hurt the business but I do want to alert other customers looking for a razor fade or a line up to not come here because this barbershop doesn't offer that. Plus nobody wants to waste money on a haircut they didn't like! I had to go to another barbershop that same day to get my hair fixed. read more

Been going here since I was like 14- that be 16 years since I am 30..FML but this place is cheap and good. $11 bucks- they raised it $1, the humanity!!!! j/k still good price for a hair cut- I got my hair cut by everybody here- usually I go to Lee or Susie. I go to Lee if I want that Fade- keeping it nice and clean or short and HOOOOD. I go to Susie if I want to style my hair and look like BRAD PITT or Jake Gyllenhaal. I show her a pix and say make me look like this. She tries her best but..... My face does not look like them. I also get my hair cut by D too. He is cool and a young cat. Only complaint is 8 to 5pm. It closes way to early, I use to cut my hair once a week now I can only go on Saturdays so I miss a hair cut some times. My hair be growing like wild fire, ya heard?????? read more

I've been coming here ever since I lived down the street in Canoga Park. Even after I moved to Thousand Oaks, and now to West Los Angeles, I've always found a reason to make the extra 30-40 minute detour to get my hair cut here. The price: $10 bucks, cash only. Can't beat that, unless you go to Monterey Park... The quality: consistently good - Suzie is my favorite (Asian lady, closer to the back) - Razor Shave for the nape of the neck + aftershave = awesome; I've gotten cuts from everyone though, and they're all consistently good. I even came here to get my hair cut the week before my wedding... so I definitely trust them. The location: a bit of a run down strip mall, next to Stars diner and a Smart and Final. Doesn't win any points on style, but at 10 bucks, who cares? The only drawback is that they close exactly at 5 on weekdays, which makes a trip on the way back home from work difficult, unless I leave early. read more

Plain Horrible! If only there was a dislike button on here with a no star rating, this place doesn't deserve any stars. I got a long review, so bare with me here guys. I recently moved to Canoga and my old barber's shop is pretty far from my location so did some research here on yelp of where was the best place to get a good clean fade/taper around my area. Saw the reviews and said I'll check it out. I came through the morning around 9am and the dude you see in the pic with a chin strap wearing the navy blue barber uniform was the only guy in there didn't even greet me and gave me a bad look. I said good morning anyway. I asked to get a low taper fade on the back and to give me a line up and try to connect my sideburns to my goatee, but he said he couldn't but he'll try. My old barber had no problem giving me the right cuts requested, but this guy was an amateur. Shortly afterwards a man came through the shop most likely a regular there since the both of them had a chat, and this guy was rushing my cut, soon after he was finished and asked me to check it out, as I was looking at the mirror he was holding, he told me, 'you know you can hold it too, I was like wtf? Then my line was crooked, so I asked if he could clean it up with a straight-edge and he replied 'oh I don't do that, I just give haircuts, that'll be 10bucks.' I don't even know how this guy became a barber, doesn't even deserve to have the title and be working in a shop any where. If Gil's Barbershop has a 'good' rep I just hope because their other barbers are more professional and promising, but this guy isn't even a slice of the pie close to professional. Bad service Bad cuts Bad first experience Bad everything. Definitely a first and last for me. Okay, I've now been a regular here after finding "my guy"... and, I'll spill the beans... his name is Lee. He's amazing and fast, in and out of there in ten minutes max, assuming he doesn't have a line - which sometimes he does. Every time - it's perfect. Just a tip... about tipping... one old guy ahead of me got Lee and gave him, literally, the change in his pocket for a tip. That's insulting. I'm sorry, but this isn't the 60's, even though it's old school here. Yes, the price is only $11 but you can't fork over $5 for a great haircut? How much is your time worth to you? If you went to Supercuts, you'd spend 45 minutes in the chair for some trial and error haircut and you'd pay over $20. With the cheap price here, you can't sit there and go, "Well, 10 or 20% is around $1 or $2). Yes, $5 is almost 50% of $11 but think about it -$16 out the door is FAR CHEAPER than going to any of these chains out there. These guys work mainly on tips so hook them up. read more

Great prices, great cuts They even have a LCD TV to watch while you get your haircut. I drive ~15 minutes (past a bunch of other barbers/chain haircut places) to get my $10 haircut at Gil's. I've noticed as the economy slowed down, fewer people in general have been getting haircuts. $10+tip is a great deal vs the alternative of having a half-assed haircut by your friend or yourself (at least in my case). read more

This is a place for guys with short hair to go and get their hair cut shorter. I sat and watched dudes with buzz cuts come in and get more buzzed. I had considerably shaggy - perhaps even long - hair and the barber (a young guy with a buzz cut) told me, as he asked what I wanted, that it was too long. It's true I wanted a shorter cut, and told him so. But I'm just saying, if you like a little more length and style in your hair to be careful here. They operate with electric razors and combs. I left looking like I just enlisted in the military. Is it a bad cut? I guess not. It's just what they do there. It's a little like ordering a fussy meal at a old, roadside diner. I have been going to Gil's since they were on Sherman Way and Lindley by the B of A; before that little center was torn down, so about 20 years. Gil's is a Barber Shop. Barber shops appear to be an endangered species, but Gil's goes on. The staff has changed, no Gil holding court at the door anymore, but Gil's goes on. I once made the mistake of going to a hair salon and told them what I wanted. They proceeded to cut it the way they thought is should look. Gil's has ALWAYS cut my hair (what little I have left) exactly the way I ask. Funny thing, after 20 years and two locations, they still don't remember me from visit to visit. Oh well. Man, I don't understand why this placed doesn't have a perfect 5 star?! No, this is not another episode of fans ranting why Ryan Gossling is not the sexiest man or someone got robbed of a very deserving status. I always have Jessica cut my hair, she is consistently the best barber I ever had. I know by me saying this, I'm going to have to wait an extra 30 minutes next time, but she deserves the recognition. She takes the time to ask how you like the hair cut, and she will take the time to get it done. Take my hair for example, long in the front, she takes so much time fix and blend the front to the back do I don't look like one of them asian thugs with the roach strings aka dragon ball hair from the movie fast and the furious. Jessica is always awesome. My go to now is Le because he's always there on the days that I'm free to stop by. The price has slowly gone up over the years but you can't expect people to make a living working in 2019 and charging 1990 price. All of the above mentioned barbers are very good and friendly. My barber so I definitely want to give them 5 stars but I can't because they are open Banker's hours. They close by 5 and they are closed on Sundays. Why are they awesome. Its only 10 bucks for a haircut. CASH They are quick and clean. You go in, grab a seat, wait till the next booth opens up and get it done. Very traditional Barber so don't expect anything fancy. I have a very basic hairstyle requiring what should be a simple cut, so it's surprising to me how often people mess it up. Gil's always gets it just right, no muss no fuss, and coincidentally much less expensive than just about anywhere else ($11 for a typical haircut at the time of this review). I've had my best cuts from the proprieter, his son and daughter (the three in that first Yelp photo), but I know people who prefer the others. read more

This place is awesome. The younger guy, Jordan I believe, did an awesome job. He has some serious skill as a barber. Did an amazing job and when I wanted it just a little shorter, it's like he knew exactly what I wanted. Perfect cut. After reading the other reviews here I decided that the 1-3 star review givers were mostly all just angry people that will find fault with anything. And I think I was right based on everything I saw. Yes, there's hair on the floor. Guess what, it's a barber shop! No one ignored me when I walked in. No one gave me dirty looks. Im a scrawny white guy with as much style as a bag of potatoes and they still treated me well and were courteous and polite. Ignore the bad reviews, they have no substance in my opinion. Again, I'm just blown away by how polite, efficient, and skilled Jordan, as well as the other barbers I'm sure, are.
