This is a 1-star review because the customer service here is offensive.
After moving to Reseda from Woodland Hills, I went to Maycol for over a year, until he decided he did not want to cut my hair anymore.
There was no clear reason, because nothing happened. I got a haircut from him, paid and tipped 20% as usual. A month later I tried to book via text message as usual, and Maycol replied but refused to help me any longer for no clear reason--something about the way I expressed myself the last time I went to him.
I dropped off some donuts for the shop as an apology, and told the owner Jose that I thought there was a misunderstanding with Maycol, and asked if he could help me. Jose gave me a chance, and we were off to a good start.
After 2 haircuts, Jose the owner was not responding to my text messages, and he even increased the price on me. And then when I went back after a few months of not returning, I asked for his price and it was even higher. It went from $25, to $30, to $40 the day I walked back out.
I think in the end, it was the same story with both Maycol and Jose: I liked the way they cut my hair, and I was clearly looking forward to preserving a long-term relationship with both of them--but these guys didn't like being told that they did not give me the haircut exactly the way I wanted. They did not like me trying to get them to tweak their haircuts for me until I was consistently getting exactly what I wanted.
Brother's Barbers has barbers that do not like being told how to give you the hair cut you want.
They do not like being told they did not cut your hair exactly the way you had hoped.
If you want a haircut exactly the way you want, go somewhere else.
I am a 40 year old man and I've been going to barbers the San Fernando Valley and Santa Barbara my whole life--and these were the most appalling experiences I've ever had with any of them.
I ask myself if both offensive experiences in the same shop--one of them the owner--is a coincidence. It seems as though Jose might be fostering a toxic culture of barbers that don't ever want to be told "you went too short".
If you can't tell a barber "you cut my hair too short", what can I tell them?
If I am coming back to you for more haircuts, why can't I just tell you exactly what I am hoping to get from you?
Mind boggling.

Desconcertante.
