I met my son here for a quick bite recently while staying at The Ambassador Hotel. The restaurant looked very nice and had a fun vibe. The staff were very friendly. However, the food was not very good. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer and the pretzel bites. Both tasted like frozen food that was heated up as did the beer cheese. For a nice hotel, the ambiance, and the price, I was expecting higher quality food. I would pass on this one. I would save your money and the calories. Per Rave concert tradition stopped at Gin Rickey beforehand. Unfortunate that the parking situation changed since normally I would enjoy dinner and a few drinks and then go over to the Rave. I wouldn't mind paying to park but it only limits you to two hours! Always have to order a Gin Rickey! The truffle fries are also a favorite. Tried a new appetizer the goat cheese bake and it was delicious! read more

The drinks here are top notch! The food here is always amazing! My favorite is the Cobb salad and the truffle fries are also delicious. The service is very slow but the staff are friendly. It gets even slower when busy. But we still come back on a regular basis. read more

My friend and I stopped here before a show at the rave for a quick bite and a drink. The server/bartender was great and super attentive. We ordered a gin Rickey cocktail along with truffle fries and the baked goat cheese dip. The truffle fries were delicious with a hint of truffle flavor and the dip was yummy as well. The goat cheese went well with the banana peppers and paired well with the pita bread. The bar was nice with plenty of seating and appeared to be clean. Not great... weak watered down and not as the menu described ... or like prior experiences. Time of day and day of week should not matter.

Didn't enjoy the service. Food was accidentally spilled on me ruining my shirt. After that the bartenders just ignored us. Couldn't get another drink and waited forever for the bill. A free beer doesn't make up for my ketchup covered shirt or the fact that I had to wear it the rest of the night and look like a slob. Kathy was a great face for the business because she was very friendly and me being the only person in the place we had a conversation down memory lane because we both lived in the same area and and share the same experiences so the conversation flowed. My drink of choice is the Gin Rickey so I decided to stop by the bar called Gin Rickey and have a Gin Rickey. This is a nice bar in the old Art Deco Ambassador hotel which is almost 100 years old. The bar itself is very nice but not over the top nice and just right with that old elegant flavor from the past, basically it's a great fit for the Art Deco building. Kathy introduced me to the locally made small batch gin from Milwaukee Wi called Rehorst gin made by Great Lakes Distillery which was very good. Overall it's a nice bar to have a great cocktail and since there was no other patrons in the place to talk to Kathy's great personality turned my first impression of let's go into let's stay for a bit. read more

In the interest of presenting a believable review, presenting only facts: -30+ min lag between taking drink order and dining order. (waiter did not know what an Arnold Palmer is, ???) -Appetizers were delivered (finally) with no service items, waiter absent for another 20 minutes. -One entree (of 3) was improperly prepared (verified by manager) and grilled squash was still raw and inedible. no inquiry about satisfaction from waiter for 20 min. Sent back and party member had to just nibble on remaining appetizers. -One order of their popular cheeseburger turned out to be unavailable which happens (but running out of a cheeseburger...really?) however, the table wasn't notified until the two other entrees were delivered. (sorry, but this is just poor service even on the busiest of nights) Table was notified by bus woman not waiter. -Wedge salad (quickest replacement for cheeseburger) was simply not a wedge salad (loose leave bib lettuce with typical wedge bacon/blue cheese) but it was far too delayed to send back or complain at that point. Hey, shit happens and maybe one or two of those things can happen in the flow of service, but the preponderance of just flat out errors at this price point is laughable. Of the items that did arrive, absolutely none of them rose above an expected or average level. read more

Nice place. Had a Mezcal drink and the spicy chicken sandwich. Has a cool 20s vibe to it. The bartender is very nice and friendly. The mezcal drink was smoky and hit the mark. The spicy chicken sandwich was delicious. And can't beat the coolness of the Ambassador hotel. If you live in Milwaukee, def check this place out. read more

OMG. Those gin rickeys...definitely have one when you check out this great space in Milwaukee's Ambassador hotel. Allow a little extra time to walk around the art deco property & check out the black-and-white photo history along the walls. 5 stars for cocktails, 5 stars for service, 3 stars for food - it was good, but not nearly as amazing as the cocktails were. I particularly enjoyed The Last Word in addition to the Gin Rickey. This would be a great spot for a date night, catching up with a small group of friends, or classy stop before an event. read more

My husband and I were staying at the hotel and wanted to get a bite to eat. We had been told by the wait staff that we could sit anywhere (the restaurant side or the bar side) because it was all the same. We had our room key that had the 25% off of your bill if we dined with them. My husband got a steak with potatoes and broccoli while I ordered the zuppa tuscana. I was served my soup right away. I went to give it back right away claiming I didn't order chili. She quickly responded that it was indeed Zuppa. I explained what zuppa was and a quick Google search would show it is NOTHING like this chili I was served. She claimed that this is the only way she's EVER seen Zuppa made. I highly doubt it. I took 2 bites and it was so salty I could have killed snails with it. I gave it back. It was not charged to our bill after I explained again it was definitely NOT zuppa and it was unedible. If they wanted me to show them REAL zuppa I could go to their kitchen and make it for them. My husband gets his order. It was plain. No seasonings. A rabbit could have put that plate together. It was a slab of steak (I will say it was cooked to the way he wanted it) small potatoes steamed and a broccoli slice that looked slightly grilled on 1 side. No seasonings or anything. It was just cooked, but not presented well at all. For the prices we were paying as well as the kitchen staff they claim to have, it was far from culinary art. If I can make it better at home and I don't have a culinary degree, I'm disappointed. If I go to a nice restaurant, I expect same or better food than what I can prepare myself. HUGE disappointment. Then to top it off. At the end of our dining experience, we go to pay the bill and present our 25% off room key for our bill. We were told by the staff, sorry we can't honor that because we are the bar not the restaurant. We explained how we were told by their hostess that we could dine on either side and it was the same thing. So sorry, we have different promotions. By the way, the restaurant area is literally two steps away across the hall in a small room. It was like saying, if you sit at the Olive garden bar it's different than the booth seating behind you in the restaurant. We will never eat there again. read more

I love bars in the historic buildings of Milwaukee, which includes a lot of wonderful hotels. The Ambassador Hotel is a testament to Art Deco architecture and decor, and it's earned it for being around for so long. The bar area, like the rest of the food and beverage services on the main floor, was recently upgraded. It's a beautiful place to drink classic cocktails, local beers and liquors, and of course my fave--bourbon old fashioned sweets! The kitchen stops food at 10 PM, so no late night munchies. The drinks are a bit pricey, but it's worth it for the environment and the bartenders. They're my favorite part! Talkative and welcoming. There's nothing more I could ask for than to drink classic 'tails in upscale looking places. read more
