My favorite Chinese restaurant in Hamburg! Vegetable lo mein is awesome, general tao chicken and sweet-and-sour chicken and the chicken and broccoli. All Fabulous, they also make the best fried rice. However, twice now when I've ordered the pork fried dumplings, it smelled and tasted Sus. The first time I had called them and told them that I only ate one and I feel that the meat is old and/or spoiled. He insisted that it was made that day. A month later I ordered it again and again it did not taste like it had in the years past. So lesson learned, I will no longer order pork dumplings, but like I said everything else on their menu has always been great and consistent. read more

My husband heard about this place from a friend and had been super excited to try it. I got the sesame chicken and my husband got beef with garlic sauce. We both hated our dinners immensely. Grabbed takeout from here tonight despite the less than stellar recent reviews, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere: Really is non-existant. It's takeout only, but I will say that the waiting area was clean. Not dusty. And there were a couple of chairs to sit and wait for your order if like us, you are a few minutes early. Service: The lady was fast and direct. If you aren't used to asian style service, you might find her rude or dismissive. That's not what she's being. She is just focused on getting you taken care of because it's just her and the gentleman out back running the place. Food: Overall, this was pretty good for americanized Chinese. We got a decent variety of items. Wonton Soup: Definitely savory broth with lots of green onions and 7 nice sized wontons. My mom was pleased with it. Spicy Noodles with Pork Sauce: Good amount of spice. Noodles had good chew despite the fact we brought these all the way from Hamburg to Ellicottville. I didn't know there were peas in it, though, which I wasn't thrilled about, but it was still good. (I hate peas) General Tsos: More tangy than spicy, good-sized pieces of chicken. Nothing stringy or old here. Nicely garlicky. Chicken Lomein: Again, good chew on noodles, lots of fresh, not soggy veggies. Soaked up the extra sauces nicely. Fried Dumplings: Skin wasn't too thick, was a little bland but not bad at all. Downsides: Okay, so there were a few things holding the 5th star back. First, the dumpling sauce was good but came in two literal thimbles. How can I dip a dumpling in that? (And they needed it.) Give me an actual container of it, please. Flavoring could use a punch up. If it says 2 peppers, i want the heat. Some of the portions were on the small size for the cost, and we spent $82 bucks on everything. I like the food but it's a bit steep considering. Also, I would like the menu to be more clear about what's actually in the food. (Damn those peas) So I don't think this place deserves the one-star reviews, but it could use some more attention to detail. I'd come back for the soup and try some other things if I was feeling a craving for Americanized dishes. Chinese food is one of my favorite foods of all time. I am very particular where I get Chinese takeout. The food Has to be flavorful, the menu has to have the classics, and most importantly the service Has to be stellar. Not only is ginger and garlic flavorful, but the owners and employees are super friendly and they make sure your order is up to your standards. The food is super mega delicious that it's the only place we get Chinese takeout. My husband always gets lo mein and I always get beef and broccoli with white rice. The egg rolls were so tasty. We have to get them at every meal. The wonton soup really satisfies your palate and you can request it without any MSG so it gets the right amount of seasoning. They're pork fried rice is seriously equivalent to crack. I could eat there pork fried rice by the gallon every day. I know it one point they did deliver through the DoorDash app but I think since COVID-19 they had to end that. I really do hope they will bring back delivery and reopen the restaurant for dine in because we really enjoyed the atmosphere. Yet another update to my previous reviews. We decided to give this another try on Sunday and, if anything, it was worse than our previous experiences. I know that they have the little pepper indicator next to some of the dishes, but the kung pao and Singapore noodles must have been prepared by someone who was in a very bad mood that night. Both were too spicy to eat (and we can usually take spicy dishes with no problem). The General Tso's chicken was unidentifiable...just blackened bits of crunchy breading with a flavorless sauce. The fried rice and the sauce that came with the dumplings both had a metallic flavor that seemed to reminisce of the scent of an old brillo pad. The leftovers are in the fridge, but no one in the house wants anything to do with them...they'll probably end up in the garbage later today. read more

I called to plave an order and was asked to hold. As I was holding I heard the associate taking another customer's order. When the associate came back to the phone I informed him that I thought he had given poor customer service taking that other customer's order while I was on hold. He then informed me that he would not be able to take my order and hung up. I proceeded to order from another place of business. However this encounter left a bad taste in my mouth so I decided to call back to express my dissatisfaction with the customer service I was provided. I asked to speak with the manager and was informed that I was speaking to them, and he informed me that the 30 min he had informed the other customer it would take to prepare their food was taking into account the 20 min it would take to prepare mine but the fact that he did not comprehend that that was not relayed to me on the previous call and that he was just unwilling to take my order was just unexceptionable. I informed him that I would never frequent his establishment again and would inform everyone I knew to not patron that establishment. There was no apology or attempt to keep me as a customer. DO NOT GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT AS THEY DO NOT SEEM TO CARE ABOUT POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS. read more

This is the only Chinese food takeout I will get in Hamburg. It's not quite like every other Chinese takeout in the area. First of all, they don't add carrots or peas to their fried rice, which happens to be one of my favorite dishes from any Chinese takeout joint. Secondly, their fried dumplings are homemade and not the typical super thick dough from other places. And last but not least - they live up to their name cause they add lots of garlic to many of their dishes. YUM! Some of my favorites (aside from the fried dumplings and pork fried rice) are the sesame chicken, lemon chicken, general tao's chicken, Mongolian beef, and pepper beef with onions (minus the peppers cause I don't like peppers). Earlier this week I also tried their chicken and broccoli which was wonderful. The chicken actually tasted like real chicken and I asked for it to be done with garlic sauce instead of the original white/clear sauce and it was delicious! I typically try to avoid ordering non-breaded/deep fried chicken from Chinese takeout because the quality of chicken can be questionable at times, but it was excellent here and I'm so glad I finally tried it. My husband is a fan of their pork Lo Mein since he's more of a noodle guy, and we've also tried their Singapore mei fun which was also very good. The owner lady is super accommodating. I usually order in Mandarin and I ask her to make certain dishes a certain way and they've always made it happen! Small family-owned restaurant - definitely recommend! This is a pretty small, hole-in-the-wall type place which has surprisingly decent Americanized Chinese food. I've ordered take-out and dined in, though I prefer take-out. The plastic tablecloths on the tables are a bit dirty; dirty dishes can sit on tables for a while if they've gotten an influx of orders to cook & package up. But dine-in is fine if you don't mind those things. Last time we visited I ordered the veggie lo mein. It's not the usual soy sauce laden concoction you'd find at most other Chinese restaurants. Theirs has a nice flavor with hints of garlic and it's not overly salty or oily. Some people might find it dry but I'd prefer drier with decent flavor than sopping wet with only soy sauce & oil on it. My only complaint was that it could have used more veggies. I've also ordered their General Tso's tofu which is delicious! Crispy outside to the tofu with a soft, pillowy inside. I just wish you got some veggies with it to make a better meal out of. The bean curd soup is a nice alternative to wonton or hot & sour- lots of veggies, bits of tofu, and a nice broth. The BF ordered the dragon & phoenix. His white rice was a bit undercooked which was surprising. He said the shrimp in garlic sauce with veggies was delicious (the phoenix side). Quality of food good but taste not geared to Americans. Not to our liking anyway. We ordered the Hunan (General Zoe) chicken. Not impressed. No veggies. Served with clumpy white rice. Sub gum (house Lo Mein) was very skimpy on meat, veggies. Pretty much all noodles. The restaurant was not busy on a Tuesday. Only one other phone order came in k while a waited for my order. This is the best local Chinese restaurant here in Hamburg, but it's really not saying much. I am constantly disappointed by this place but keep going back hoping it will be much better. I have an allergy to Bell Peppers and always ask that they are not added to my food, abs every single time, they put bell peppers in my general tso chicken. They do a BRISK TAKE OUT SERVICE. The phone was ringing off the hook the entire time I was there!!! They don't have a liquor license which is a bummer but not a huge one. I had 3 people come in for their orders in the 20 mins I was there. A young woman recommended the chicken & garlic & I ordered the chic fried rice & 2 eggrolls. I actually sat down at a table & ate the egg rolls while the other dishes were being prepared. They were DELICIOUS!!! Hot from the wok & Not greasy. Pork & shredded cabbage etc. They were accompanied by the traditional hot mustard & sweet sauce. Both fresh & yummy. So I was out at Chestnut Ridge Park and was feeling that hunger rolling around in my belly. I got into my car and decided to fire up my trusty Yelp app. I clicked my location setting on and let the magic happen. Adjusted my search settings to a single $ and began to search the nearby restaurants when this little miracle caught my eye. Not many reviews and even less photos, I decided that since it was super close Id give them a call. Based on what folks said in the reviews I decided to go with the Chicken Hanan and also ordered some Pork Lo Mein. Let me just say the reviews were right and so was the flavor profiles of this food! The chicken had a tenderness and a taste that was out of this world! The sauce was on point and the rest of the dish was poppin! I did get a spring roll which to my surprise came with two and my one dissapointment was the spicy mustard that came with them. It wasnt good, but there was a second sauce included which was a sweet orangey marmelade type and it was yummy, so all is well on that battlefront. With my belly happy and my mind on the future, I decided to wait on the Lo Mein and tossed it into the fridge. Well upon my hungers return I went to that fridge the next afternoon and was again happy with the tastes I found! Definately a cool little spot and highly recommend you try it if nearby. I went to this establishment on a Saturday night with a group of 4 friends. What drew us in were the great reviews and $ advertised on the Yelp page. We decided to eat there, but there were also alot of customers who picked up orders they called ahead for. As soon as we entered we were nicely greeted and given a table to seat our party. There was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time. It was a very quiet, calm and intimate setting. We were served water and given time to order our dishes. Our waiter Dex was amazing, he was patient and friendly; the service was excellent. Btw, they take cards which is something I am not used to seeing from chinese restaurants. The appetizers came out first and the meals shortly after, but the wait wasn't too long. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. I ordered sesame chicken, crab rangoon, a shrimp roll and split a shrimp fried rice with another person. The sesame chicken comes with white rice, but you can't switch it out with fried rice not even for an additional cost. You have to order a whole meal of fried rice. To add on, I was with a group of 4, so there was a total of 5 of us. All of our meals came with white rice but they gave it to us in a quart size bowl. Once that was done towards the end of our meal they gave us another. Realistically, it would have been nice for us to each get our own serving. If you eat there try to ask for your own white rice, so you can get your moneys worth. The sesame chicken was tasty, but it wasn't sweet at all; It was more on the savory side. To add on we all had broccoli served with our meals; the broccoli looked nice, but tasted horrible. It almost tasted a bit chemically. I thought it was just me, but when I asked the table everyone agreed. We ended up tossing out all of the broccoli. Maybe we just got a bad batch, but I hope it wouldn't normally taste like that. On a brighter note, the meal ended with fortune cookies and candy. Dex was even able to split the bill. Although I'm 20 mins away, I would definitely return to this restaurant for a nice meal. I love Chinese food. LOVE IT. The sad fact, however, is that unless I'm eating at my friend's parent's house (her father is from Taiwan and really knows his Cantonese and Hunan cuisine), I'm utterly unimpressed. His food sings (and coincidentally probably spoiled me). When I ordered from the "corner Chinese place", I was very disappointed. Until now! I found the absolute best restaurant (at least near me) that serves hot, cooked-to-order, Chinese cuisine. The "to-order" bit is most important. I honestly have to say that Ginger & Garlic Restaurant is the very first that hasn't told me that my order will be ready in "ten minutes". Since I'm certain everything is cooked fresh, it's not unlikely that one dish will take 25-30 minutes...and totally worth the wait. We have ordered from Ginger & Garlic three or four times and their consistency and quality will keep us going back. On each occasion, I requested "no mushrooms" and "no water chestnuts". They didn't laugh at me or put them in anyway (like many other restaurants do.) Their sauces don't taste like plastic, their chicken doesn't feel like rubber, their rice is not gummy. It is fresh...as if you made it yourself in your own kitchen (presuming you knew how to cook Chinese-style.) LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I am so in the mood to order from this place again tonight. Unfortunately, since the business has changed hands, many of the menu items we would order regularly (Hunan chicken, pan fried pork dumplings) have been changed considerably. The recipes are not the same and I feel the quality has lowered. The Hunan chicken is now much smaller pieces of chicken with a puffy breading and the sauce is quite thick and sweet with no signs of the sliced garlic and chili peppers or the savory flavor. I think the dumpling are prepared and cooked in advance and the filling isn't very good. Pork has an almost "off" taste. read more
