Tried this place recently and we really liked it. The staff is friendly, the food was flavorful and portions are great. We ordered chicken with broccoli in a garlic sauce ( the broccoli was slightly over done) sweet and sour chicken (so yummy) and a Singapore mei fun (thought it could use some more spice) Ill definitely recommend this Chinese takeout restaurant, and I am exited to come back and try other dishes! read more

On my way through POK, I was searching for a good place to get dinner "on the cheap" with plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from. I had just enjoyed some "Happy Hour" refreshment "on the cheap" (half price drinks) at the Sonic Drive-In several miles up the road with quite a "sugar rush" from that "RT 44" size Cherry Limeade Slush with plenty leftover. Anyways, for dinner, I finally decided on Chinese and after reading mostly positive reviews of Ginger Chinese Restaurant (on other websites), I decided give this place a try for dinner takeout. Ginger Chinese Restaurant is tucked in a small strip plaza next to Subway on US Route 9 North, just north of the Spackenkill Road (NY 113) interchange. The place is not fancy and geared towards takeout and delivery with a takeout counter & open kitchen and a small dining/waiting/storage area with only a couple tables inside for eating in and big metal shelves line the wall with bulk restaurant paper products and supplies. I ordered C22: Eggplant with Garlic Sauce ($6.75 plus tax) served with pork fried rice and egg roll. The food was ready in about 10 minutes. The food was really good, which was hot & fresh and very tasty. The Chinese eggplant was soft, cooked with a mix of fresh vegetables (including green peppers, onions, carrots) in a spicy garlic sauce. The fried rice (yellow color) had a soft/firm texture with tender roast pork cubes, scallions, and sauteed onions. The egg roll was crispy on the outside (slightly greasy), stuffed with cabbage, ground pork, and seasonings. I actually finished up the good sized portion of food along with the "monster size" slush, as I enjoyed my dinner break in the "air conditioned" rental vehicle checking out the hundreds of stations on the Sirius radio (I need to get one for my real ride back home). Temperaturewise, it was just too hot and very steamy inside the restaurant to enjoy my dinner. I tried this restaurant last night because I had a craving for American Chinese food. Even though they didn't have high ratings, I thought I'd give it a shot. Big mistake. I went to the restaurant and placed my order and waited, I live less than 2 miles from this establishment and by the time I got home the food was cold and amazingly tasteless. I have never had spring rolls that tasted only like fried Filo dough. The wonton soup dumplings were basically just flour with no discernible meat inside. The sautéed vegetables with bean curd were edible but if I hadn't been so hungry, I would've thrown it away. I threw half the food out because it just wasn't worth it. I know Poughkeepsie is not like New York City in terms of restaurant choices, but this place really left me dissatisfied on so many levels. read more

I have been ordering from this restaurant for years and never had issues up until recently. The lunch specials include soup and I did not receive it. When I called the restaurant to inform them that they forgot to bring me my soup, the woman on the phone said it was my fault, I needed to specify when in fact I did! She made it seem like it was an inconvenience for her driver to bring me the missing item. Instead of all of the nonsense, they could have easily called me to confirm instead of not delivering what I ordered. Poor customer service and to blame a customer for their mess up is unacceptable! Staying at hotel and we didn't want to go out for dinner, so went on line for yelp reviews. the hotel desk clerk recommended another, but a 1 star rating had me look further on my own. I found Ginger had good reviews and ordered - they said it would be @ half an hour and within 35 minutes they were here; and the order was 100% correct. Delivery to hotel, they should have packed some plates and plastic ware - needed to go to the hotel restaurant to get some. The Ribs were OK, typical chinese ribs; shrimp with lobster sauce had very nice shrimp - sauce was salty and a little "runny"; the nice surprise was Eggplant with garlic sauce... delicious. we ordered Brown rice which is a nice option vs. white rice. I've tried most Chinese places in the area (Pleasant Valley, Poughkeepsie, Wappingers, Fishkill, and Hyde Park) and this is the best overall. Many people who try this with me, also agree. Good flavor here. The Roast pork egg rolls are on point here, not the biggest in size but the flavor is what makes you keep coming back. The lomain is another favorite. And they have bourbon chicken. This is by far the best chinese ever! They make their dumplings with pork and shrimp and they are outstanding! I live 15 minutes from this restaurant and have to pass 10 others to get there, but it is well worth the drive! They are so great that they even will deliver if its a sizeable enough order. Just received our order from Ginger Chinese Restaurant on south road Poughkeepsie, and I must say that it SUCKED!!!!!!!! The General's chicken smelled like chemicals and tasted/looked like it came from a box! The cheese wantons had no filling in them at all. The pork lo mein was loaded with salt and some of the pieces were only half cooked. All of the food had a funny chemical odor!!! We wound up throwing all of it in the garbage. The food was just plain terrible and nobody in the restaurant cared that I had such a bad experience. I ordered pork fried rice and I was brought rice with nothing in it. The employee told me that she would put more in next time but there wont be a next time because the rice was very mushy and didn't contain any pork whatsoever. I asked to speak with the manager and I was told the manager didn't speak a word of English. Why is he even working in the United States if he isn't even capable of speaking to his customers.
