Again I am sorry you were disapointed, but happy you did not have to pay for it" If you look at my picture, you can barely see the color or cut to make a judgement, with the exception of my alfalfa that was cut into my hair. So if she is saying that her "matter of taste" is that alfalfas (not requested by the customer) looks good, then that's scary. Also- she NEVER mentions the fact that I was told by one of their staff who has expertise, blah blah, to PUT PEROXIDE on my hair! Who does that?!?! Furthermore, she adds "happy you didn't pay for it"...but my dad who bought me the groupon did, so they still received money for that terrible service! 2 years later, I'm mostly still frustrated that this place wants to make excuses for poor service rather than take responsibility. read more

What a horrible, horrible experience. I have not had such a bad hair cut in my entire life. I purchased a groupon looking for a simple couple inches off and was pleased when I called and they said I would be with David. I had already looked online and David appeared to be the "main stylist" and the owner of the salon, so naturally he must be awesome at what he does right? Wrong. I am no hairdresser, but I believe I could've done a better job. When I first came in he asked me to point to where I wanted my hair cut. I did and he then proceeded to place it behind my shoulders to match it up with where he was "going to cut". This already made me nervous, I've never had a stylist "eyeball" where to cut with a piece from the from...naturally that'd make the hair uneven. I was suppose to receive a conditioning treatment, which I honestly do not believe was anything better than a mid-grade conditioner that you could by at the local grocery store. I have had multiple conditioning treatments and never have had to have someone tear at my hair after they were complete. Then came the blow drying. How incredibly unprofessional can you get. They do not "believe" in round brushing as it damages the hair...alright I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, everyone has different techniques. But when I'm instructed to bend over so my hair is in front of me while they attack with two blow dryers in a fashion that causes my hair to turn into a legitimate rats nest...then I have problems. No realize I have not discussed a hair cut yet. They don't cut wet hair, or at least David doesn't. I obviously found this odd, dry cutting is usually for texturizing. But I let it go. He then brought out the straighteners. I was told that my hair would be flat ironed before I got it cut. It wasn't a little flat ironing. He proceeded to flat iron every last bit of my hair on a VERY high setting. How damaging to your hair can you get? My hair smells burnt and my scalp even feels a little burnt from all the straightening. Now for the cut. I kid you not, he took my hair all behind my shoulders, sat down in a chair and cut a straight line...alll....the way....across. I look like I'm 12. No style, no texture, nothing. Just a not-very-straight line cut across. I could've cut my hair this way, and it would've been less damaging.. PLEASE, I urge you. Go somewhere else! Save your hair and your money! read more

I got my hair colored here and Natalia absolutely ruined it. I asked for all over medium auburn color but she refused to dye my whole head. This should've been a red flag because she wasn't willing to do what I wanted (all over color) but I trusted her. I received 2 enormous chunks of purple-red underneath my natural color even though I asked for seamless, all over color. When I expressed how unhappy I was, Natalia told me I was overreacting because I hadn't dyed my hair in years. She didn't listen to me, refused to admit her mistake, forced me to pay, and caused quite a bit of damage to my hair. These guys are the best hair cutters I've ever found. I've been going here on and off for 20 years. I have thin, fine hair and they make the most of it. They really focus on training and education. The staff are employees, not independent contractors, so you can easily change stylists and, in fact, they encourage you to do so. They specialize: Colorists color, cutters cut. If you want both, it may take a little schedule juggling. And yes, the parking lot is dinky. I'm sorry b.g. had a bad experience. I suspect the receptionist made that mistake, and ask others not to based their opinion of the salon's work on this administrative error. I started going to Ginger Group a year ago, when I had short hair. I got cuts from Jacqui and Jazz. Both did a good job with my short cut. And, both were really friendly, approachable and understanding of my hair woes. I got lots of compliments on my cuts from my colleagues. I am growing out my hair now, and only go in about once every 4 months, for a trim, but I'm still pleased with them. There are three things I really like about this place (besides my haircuts) 1. They're never pushy about products. They'll answer your questions and give recommendations if you ask, but I've never felt like expensive hair product was being pushed on me. 2. They've been awesome about re-scheduling, when I needed to. Even when I had to cancel and re-book one time totally last minute, and it was totally my fault, they were gracious about it. Another time, my stylist had a personal emergency and couldn't keep my appointment. They called me with plenty of lead time and offered to re-book or to have her colleague, Jazz, fill in. They were very apologetic and didn't pressure me either way. I really wanted a cut, so I decided to give Jazz a try. She did a great job and was also fun to chat with. 3. This place never feels snooty and the pricing is reasonable. read more

I didn't know what to expect. These reviews are rather hit and miss. I had a very unconventional consult and cut. I have very thick hair and lots of it. I am not talented in styling it, so it's been shoulder length and layered for the past ten years. David taught me how to dry and flatiron it, cut the heck out of it, thinning and layering, but only shortening it by 1.5", talking about my bone structure, the body of my hair and options for growing out my roots. I've never been happier with my hair, David (haircutter) and Crystal (color expert) are both genius. I get compliments every day, and I've recommended several of my clients and friends. They not only have authentic, artistic skills, but they really listen to me..I feel like I have a voice, and am completely at home at the Ginger Group for hair. P.s. David has a hard time bragging, but this man studied in London, had his own school for hair, and has apprenticed countless hairdressers that have gone on to have super successful careers. There aren't many departmentalized salons in the area, meaning the hairdresser cuts hair because that's what he/she specializes in, and the colorist does his/her respective magic all day, as well, neither do both. read more

He took his time cutting my hair to perfectly match my head and face. Crystal is an artist and was able to give me the exact color and texture I was hoping for. I am a loyal Joseph client for my cuts but after 20 years of mixing and doing my own tint, I was in the process of moving and needed to make a salon appointment. I was quite the drama queen about my specific red and was SO nervous. After my appointment with Crystal, I may never do my own tint again. I LOVE the color (and it's been days so it's washed out to the true color, so I feel safe with this review), she was a trooper about my concerns, and I was pleasantly surprised at the price. I highly recommend this salon. They often have Groupon specials if you want an inexpensive trial run. David! I went here for the first time last weekend for an overdue cut and color. My time with David was just as wonderful as the cut I got from him. David is a magical soul,and an even better stylist. It's more than a haircut, it's an experience. It is pricey, but well worth it. Hands Down, the best haircut I've ever had. Natalia is amazing at color! and Jackie is great at cuts. They are warm and friendly and very talented. They cut and colored my extremely thick, difficult dark hair and always make sure I'm satisfied and content. They even let me bring in my dog with me (who is quite well behaved and friendly by the way.) They've even ordered food from next door for me if I have to stay for a long appointment and get hungry. He cut the person behind me in 50 min, I was the last one, spent with me 15 min., and the result: Awful haircut!!, told him but he told me: but you look great!, never, never got a haircut like this.... I have 2 friends who have gone to David for years with good results. My first haircut 4 weeks ago was fine but nothing spectacular. I went in on Saturday for a bang trim and he somehow managed to cut a chunk of my bangs almost to my hairline. My hair parts naturally on the right and my bangs sweep to the left. I'm now missing a chunk of my bangs on the left. He also thinned them so I don't even have enough hair to cover the now-bald spot of my bangs. I don't know if the service has changed at the salon since these bad reviews took place, but I had an awesome experience! I bought a Groupon and visited Ginger Group for the first time yesterday morning. Upon arrival, the girl at the front desk was super nice and welcoming. David (the owner) was the person who was going to do my hair and he was finishing up with a client upon my arrival, so I waited a couple minutes until he came over to consult with me. He asked me what I would like done to my hair and how short I'm comfortable with going. After getting my hair washed and dried by an assistant, David started working on my hair. I will admit, I was SO nervous (as I always am when getting my hair done), but I had no reason to be! David was very nice, funny, and asked questions to make sure he knew exactly what I wanted done to my hair. And I actually am extremely happy with my cut!! This is the first time in a loooong time where I've left the salon in love with my hair. David did an amazing job and I will definitely return! read more

A few years ago, I didn't have a regular stylist in my area so I bought a handful of Groupons for various salons; one was for Ginger Group. My first indication something was wrong was when I booked an appointment for a cut and highlights, which by the way, can be a little difficult to juggle since they have two different people do each. Nice in theory since some stylists are better at color and vice versa, but I worked odd hours and so I got an appointment a few weeks out. I arrive for the appointment, and they tell me I'm not scheduled that day. They look at their book and say it's actually the following week! Now I know I got it right. I use my iPhone calendar religiously, putting in appointments immediately after making them. They laughed it off, saying it must have been "insert name here," not a receptionist who answers phones on weekends and often gets things wrong. I badly needed a trim, so I just made a same-day appointment at a place near my house. Fast forward a few months, I had canceled the original and made a new one since I had gotten a trim elsewhere. I couldn't find parking in the tiny lot and it was hard to maneuver so I parked on the street. I walked in 10 minutes late to my appointment, I realize it was my fault and going to a new place, I should arrive early. In any case, I was late. I was very apologetic, but my colorist whose name escapes me, was extremely rude about it and said there was no way we could do highlights now since she had back-to-back clients. She insisted I just get a full-head color instead. Trying to be accommodating, I agreed. I wanted a burgundy reddish brown, more red than brown. She seemed to think I wanted a more neutral shade than I did, despite my telling her I was very experienced with reds. I've done it all, including fire-engine red streaks. It turned out way more tame than I wanted. But I didn't care anymore at that point, she also kept going on about her personal life and difficulties with her kids and living far from the salon. I'll say here that the salon was pretty dated and the majority of customers were much older than myself or even my mother. This should have been an indication that they're pretty conservative when it comes to color and cuts. My cutter, Jazz, was excellent. If you just want a cut, I suggest going to her. If it weren't for Jazz, I would give this place two stars. I had nothing too drastic or out there, though: a few inches taken off my then-long hair and a a little layering with my bangs trimmed. She was friendly and nice to talk with and listened to what I wanted. She did a great job and my cut looked great! read more

I had a groupon for a cut and partial highlight. Crystal highlighted my hair first then David cut it. As my hair was starting to dry, I could barely tell I had highlights. I said something to David and he used the word "oxidation"? Anyway, David cut my hair. He's cut my hair 4 times or so; this wasn't the best cut. Then I went to the reception desk and gave them my coupon. This is where it gets awkward and humiliating for me. I'm told that "the groupon is really for new customers but I will take your groupon this one time". To which I point out on the coupon states "not valid for clients active in the last 12 months". When I made the appt, I gave my name and told them I had a groupon. They looked me up on the computer and I hadn't been there in 2 years. Yet, here I was checking out and being chastised. Really? I leave and sit in my car and i keep looking at my hair, which still looks like I had no/very little highlights. I don't go back in because of being chastised; also, David had another client and Crystal had left. I called the salon and left a message for Crystal. We text back and forth. She told me to wash it and the highlights would come out. I did that, to no avail. I tried to get in touch with her again 10 days later (after giving it a very fair amount of time). No response. Hence, this review. I like David. We have had many great conversations. And I like the way he usually cuts my hair. Obviously, I won't be going back. Which is what, I believe, they wanted all along. I went to another salon and had a color disaster. I found Ginger Salon on yelp and decided that take a chance because of their good reviews. When I arrived my hair was an embarrassing shade of yellow. Crystal wasn't alarmed which put me immediately at ease. She explained how she would correct the color. The results were perfect. Natalia is hands down the BEST colorist. She is a true artist, and simply one of the nicest, most interesting people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Every time I let someone else highlight my hair - and I only get stupid like that when I'm in a hurry - i.e. let my hair cutter do it - I end up regretting it. No one can match her quality. Plus, when she colors my hair it always lasts much longer AND her prices are the same or better! I write this now after letting my current hair stylist highlight my hair since I was already getting a cut, and kicking myself for it. It's ok but nowhere near as good as Natalia does it. I've been here many times and have never had a bad experience. My color and cut always look amazing! I usually don't know what I want but the stylists work with me and help me figure out what will look great on me and it always does! Also everyone is extremely friendly and knowledgable and you can't find this kind of service just anywhere! If there is ever an issue they work with you until you are 100% happy which is great! I received the absolute worst, ugliest haircut I have ever had in my entire life by the owner of the salon. I cannot believe how bad it is. My coworkers are sympathetic and tell me it will grow out eventually, but realistically, it will probably take about 4-6 months. After the haircut, I have had to spend more money and products and accessories to try to hide this fiasco of a hairstyle. I have only been here once, so maybe if you have really really short as in buzz cut short hair or don't mind dated hairstyles, it is ok to have your hair cut here. But if you don't want to look like you fell off the ugly bus, you should probably go elsewhere. David didn't take into account my hair texture at all, he just started cutting away, and the cut is just absolutely wrong for my hair texture. He put absolutely no thought into what he was doing, and it shows. I'm so upset about it, I hate looking in the mirror. It's just completely embarrassing. I'm trying to make it look professional at work, but it's impossible to hide. The service people are nice enough, but I would rather they have bad service and let me leave with a decent haircut. They try to build up his image with the Allure magazine ads, but don't be fooled. I admit I was. I had a $125 gift certificate for The Ginger Group for Hair. I called in advance and asked how much a cut, color and highlight would be... they told me $110. I was at the salon for 5 hours, they charged me $220 and I received the WORST haircut I have ever gotten! I do not recommend this place - unless you have money to burn and want to hate your hair! It makes me want to cry every time I look in a mirror now! Not to mention the parking lot can only hold 3 cars at a time. read more

I thought the employees and the quality of the color & hair cut were great! Very nice, capable and friendly. Jacqui was awesome. That being said, I agree with other reviewers that having separate people do the color and cut is problematic. What I didn't like most and what will keep me from going back (at least until they remodel) was the space: floor to ceiling mirrors everywhere. So while you are sitting getting your hair cut you see all of you sitting in the chair plus everything and everyone else on the floor and in the room. Personally, in a salon chair I just want to see my head and shoulders in a flattering light. The bathroom (very small) literally had mirrors on the ceiling as well as on all 4 walls. I'm sure the mirrors were added at some point to make the space feel larger and more open - but I can't think of a single woman over the age of like 25 would feel comfortable in that type of atmosphere. read more
