I don't want to make a huge deal because this is a review I should've done back in September of 2022 but now that I'm finally getting my hair fixed I think I should say be wary of this place. Photos are from December 2022. Hair still looks the same because it cost me nearly $700 for the 9 hour bleaching session. When the artist declined photos stating it was "too dark in the salon" I knew she knew she messed up. I felt awful for wanting to publish a bad review because she spent 9 whole hours on my hair. But she could've asked me to do this in two sessions and done it right. I was unaware at the time the salons can do separate sessions and have you come back for another bleach or toning. It should've been recommended that I do separate sessions since my hair is nearly 3 feet. Maybe bit off more than she could chew. Again I felt like it was going to be rude to say I didn't like it after 9 hours of work but it's my hair that I've had for 25 years and paid a lot of money for. The initial suggestion was she wanted to do only the top layer of my hair for $700 and leave the inside alone. Which was more reasonable but the same price for less work.. which I feel she did the original plan anyways because of the underside having more severe banding and bleached not as high up. **This review is only about the banding and not about the color. The photos were taken two months after so the initial toning has come out a bit. The original blonde was bright and lovely. read more

R. Collective & Colleen are the BEST! After moving to MI a few years ago, one of my first to-do's was to find a salon for not only great hair, but to have some me time & connect with people. I used to 'stylist hop' because I was: a) not happy with my hair b) felt the conversations were super forced c) appointments took wayyyyy too long & the stylist would overbook. I had an amazing cut and color her. I had a blunt trim with blonde baby lights. The stylist was very careful, listened to what I wanted, and the color has worn really well. I trust the skill level of the staff, and they use nice products. It's an absolutely gorgeous space. You do pay for what you get. I'm certainly not saying they *shouldn't* charge that much, just know it is on the higher end, and on par with other nice salons in the area. read more

She lied about knowing how to do blow out runway curls. Blew out my hair straight, used a curling iron for the curls and they fell flat within half hour of leaving the place. Tipped her for no reason, I don't like liars at servicing establishments. read more

I'm notorious for only cutting my hair about once a year and after 8 months of COVID-19 world and quarantining, I finally felt the urge to cut my hair. I scheduled a haircut and keratin express treatment from Tony. He was very easy going and knowledgeable about the keratin process. It's only been less than a week since my appt but the keratin express treatment definitely has helped with making my hair feel more silky smooth. I'm not sure if all of the stylists have assistants, but Tony's assistant Olivia was also very sweet. I'm not one for a ton of small talk while I get my haircut and it was kind of nice to have her nearby for the whole appointment to be able to add in to the conversation as well as learn more about the keratin treatment as she asked questions and he taught her. It was a new experience to have two people blow dry my hair at the same so if you're sensitive to temperatures like me, beware that it can get a little toasty. Prices are on the higher end but for an above average salon and the advanced skill level of the stylists, it's worth it. I also did a fair amount of research beforehand and r. collective definitely had more affordable out of the "bougier" salons in the area. Keep in mind I didn't color my hair so I can't attest to those prices. Protip that parking is free in the structure behind the salon until April 2021 so don't pay for street parking! read more

I had the greatest experience getting my hair done at r.collective salon in Birmingham. They were able to get me in fairly last minute, and the hairdresser I ended up with, Taylor, was INCREDIBLE. She knocked it out of the park. I showed her pictures and we discussed what I wanted and what our plan was. I felt involved, and not like anything was going to surprise me, which I appreciate. This is only my second time getting my hair done at a salon in my life, but I have to say this was better than I ever could have imagined! Taylor KILLED my chunky highlights, and was an amazing person to talk to throughout the process. She was kind, attentive, and understanding. Tommy was amazing and did such beautiful work on my hair. He was very friendly and personable, he took the time to sit down and ask me exactly what I was looking to have done and worked with me when I asked for his input on a cut for my waist length hair just to freshen it up. The balayage, purple dye, and haircut all came out absolutely amazing and he did a beautiful job styling it. I haven't needed to find a stylist in probably 17 years so I was nervous and Tommy was absolutely wonderful and helped me feel totally at ease and confident in his work.
