What a wonderful surprise to see this beautiful historic house turned into a comfortable inn. The owner is gracious and inviting, and we were beyond comfortable. The history of the place is evident everywhere. Now I'm trying to think of a reason to come back to Mount Pleasant so we can stay here again. There's a lovely porch out front and shaded seating in the backyard near the river. There's even space to have an event out back. We were attending a wedding near Mt. Pleasant and made a reservation at The Gingko Tree Bed and Breakfast. We did this based on reviews we had read, and we were not disappointed. This is a beautiful Victorian home and is decorated with that era in mind. We were on the third floor in a quaint room with a private bath and a balcony overlooking the common area. The bed was very comfortable, and the room had an electric fireplace for ambiance - such a nice touch. We were greeted by a very nice young man with enthusiasm and pleasantness. The morning gourmet breakfast was outstanding and served with fine china, gold tone flatware and linen napkins. This is a first-class bed and breakfast! I would definitely return and recommend to friends and family for a most enjoyable experience. read more

I haven't stayed at too many bed-and-breakfast businesses, but this was definitely the best one I've ever experienced. Layla was an absolute sweetheart who made us feel welcome the entire time we were there. The house is just gorgeous, and very well appointed in all the different spaces. Our bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had terrific water pressure. The TV had all the usual things, and the chairs were comfortable to sit on. You get an instant calming feeling just setting foot in the front door. Breakfast was magnificent and included a variety of different items that Layla served to us with beautiful presentation. This was a little spendy, but it was worth every penny. It made for a wonderful anniversary weekend. Highly recommended! read more

Absolutely lovely! We stayed at the Ginkgo Tree Inn for a family reunion. There was a Journey concert that same weekend, and the chain hotels had jacked up their prices. Well sucks for them because that led us to the Inn, and we'll be staying here on our Mt Pleasant trips from now on! David and Layla were so kind and friendly. The breakfast (made by Layla) was phenomenal and worth the stay just for that! It's location is great - right between Island Park and downtown. Everything was a short walk away. The park is lovely with new skate ramps, pickle ball courts, and a water park for kids! We stayed in room 8. It's a large room with the most comfortable bed! I slept really well. While we didn't take advantage of some amenities because of time constraints, we did enjoy coffee on the back patio which was lovely. They also have beer and wine available. We'll be back! read more

We have stayed in many B&B's around the county and the Ginkgo Tree Inn is a true gem. The owners, David and Layla, were so welcoming that we felt like part of the family. Their home is absolutely magnificent with attention to even the smallest details. Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and gorgeous. Layla made us a delicious breakfast every morning with a smile and wonderful conversations. The location is perfect for those that love walking, hiking, biking, and pickleball. There are six brand new dedicated outdoor pickleball courts (lighted) at the park located within a 5 minute walk. Downtown is also a five minute walk with many nice restaurants and shops. We definately look forward to returning as these wonderful owners have ongoing plans and developments to make your experience even more memorable. This place is a 5 star for many reasons. We drove to and from Pensacola, FL to Mackinac Island, MI. On our way home, we stopped and spent one night at Ginkgo Tree Inn. What an amazing bed and breakfast. we couldn't have asked for anything better. We just wish we would have spent more than one night there. Absolutely beautiful place, breakfast was the best breakfast we had during our two week journey, the whole place was spotless, and the owners provided exceptional customer service. We hope to make another trip and stay there again. Next time we'll fly into Grand Rapids, MI though. read more

Hold onto your hats, this is going to be a scathing review. We found the service at this B&B unacceptable. For the price, we would expect much more. The new owners have a LOT to learn. We arrived at the Ginkgo Tree at 3 p.m. After checking us in, Dave asked us for a few extra minutes because he needed to finish vacuuming our room. Once he finished that task, we were given access and told he would be back shortly with a trash can liner. We discovered there was no toiletries in our bathroom, so at 3:40, we sent him a text asking for some. After waiting over a half hour, we searched for him, couldn't find him but finally found another worker on site, so asked him to assist. When Dave eventually showed up, we told him our wi-fi and TV were not working either. By 5 p.m., the problem still hadn't been fixed, and he asked us to wait while he checked in other guests. We told him we didn't want to waste any more time and left for dinner. We texted Dave this morning at 6:30 a.m. to find out when breakfast would be served. The response was received at 8 a.m., that it would be available from 9 to 11 a.m. We decided to forego the supposed gourmet breakfast because we needed to head home. When we went to return our key, we rang the bell twice for service, but no one made themselves available. I'm searching for something positive to write about the Ginkgo Tree. The bed was comfortable. That's it. For the money, drive to Alma and stay at the Saravilla. The service there was so much better. read more

I stayed here for our last night in Mount Pleasant and was utterly charmed by Jean's hospitality. She upgraded us to her biggest and best room in Chez Mimi, which was gorgeously appointed with a four poster bed and fireplace and had lovely outdoor seating areas. For breakfast, we were served a multi-course meal. My husband wasn't able to make it for breakfast so Jean even packed him up a breakfast to go. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. read more

Just like other people commented, you will never want to stay somewhere else. It's much better than a hotel. Never got a chance to be here when is was a student in CMU. But I decided to stay here instead of a hotel when I planed to go back and visit Mt. Pleasant. Jean is a lovely host. Solid BnB housed in a beautiful old Painted Lady, with a delicious bistro inside; right in downtown Mount Pleasant. We stayed in the "Grand Ginkgo" Room and it was a great decision. Clean, comfortable room with tons of character. The balcony and view is a nice bonus. We didn't use the patio areas during our short stay but the inside dining room is cozy and breakfast was superb. February 11th, we invited four friends over for a fun "tasting" of all the current Take-&-Bake offerings from Adelaide's Bistro. Chef provided a beautiful Ginko Tree salad, dinner rolls and wonderfully prepared entries. All we had to do was turn on the oven and timer and follow the well written instructions. We enjoyed everything, with most of us identifying our personal favorites. The portions were generous providing use with plenty to get a true "taste". We even had enough leftovers for two of us to have lunch the next day. I have been to Adelaide"s Bistro for lunch several times....I'm trying to work my way through the entire lunch menu! We are visiting from out of town and my sister and brother-in-law brought us here for lunch. We sat out on the lovely porch and had the most incredible meal. Highly recommend the chicken pot pie soup, turkey, cranberry and goat cheese sandwich and the Southwestern Chicken Salad. Really enjoyed the Bloody Marys and Ginko Mules. We shared the strawberry mousse dessert which was fantastic. The lovely woman serving us could not have been more gracious. Will definitely come back and highly recommend!! read more

We had an enjoyable dinner and night at the Gingko Tree recently. The location is perfect for downtown Mt. Pleasant and Island Park. McKenzie is a great innkeeper--she takes her job VERY seriously and was constantly but discretely concerned to make our stay the best possible. Our room was charming and well outfitted. Dinner was delicious but because of a large number of guests the service was very slow--they need to work on that. Also, the bartender was not well trained. But it is a quite new place, and these things will get fixed. I would highly recommend staying at the Gingko Tree! Beats the heck out of the chain places in town, and is much more pleasant than the casino. read more

Jean and her staff are fantastic! If you are ever in the area I would recommend staying here over a hotel any day. Breakfast is wonderful and always a delight. My room is always just right with a nice glass of wine served in the evening. In the summer time you can enjoy the back patio with beautiful gardens and garden art that overlook Island Park or in the winter you can be cozy in the new bar area that also overlooks the river and park. If you like supporting small businesses or just want a great place to stay then I would definitely put Gingko Tree on your list. read more

This place is a gem! Intimate restaurant setting in a turn of the century home made into a B&B. Chef Pete prepares some of the best food I've ever had. We chose this as the spot to celebrate New Years Eve & our 19th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. I chose the roasted duck breast--it was FANTASTIC. And the house salad---YUM. We came here for a tea party and the service was really above and beyond! The price for the amount of food was the best I have had for a tea service. Also the tea was delicious and they had a a variety of flavors. They also offered delicious wine. The indoors and outdoors were both gorgeous. At one time a couple of years ago this place had a really good chef and the food was outstanding. Combined with a beautiful victorian building and decor, dinning at Ginkgo Tree was a memorable experience. But things often change and in this case not for the better. We had Mothers Day Brunch at Ginkgo today and were extremely disappointed. The entrees were brought to our table slightly warm. The quiche was way past well done and we were not the only table within earshot sending it back. My wife had a fried chicken and waffle dish that she barely touched due to the chicken being rubbery, the waffles tasting very much like the frozen ones that come from a supermarket and the syrup being a Mrs Butterworth imitation. The deserts looked ok but none of us ate more than half. Today was our second try at ginkgo since ownership changed a year and a half ago and will definitely be our last. It is still beautiful and the people are nice but the food is just not good. read more

However staff are treated poorly at this establishment, chef turnover is high, food is occasionally delectable but far too inconsistent, as are hours of operation, which are continuously changing, sometimes weekly. First thing that comes to mind is relaxing! This is an awesome bed and breakfast! You will never want to stay anywhere else! Patio and porch are perfect for relaxing and drinks. If you sit on the back patio you can see and hear the tranquil river that runs around Island Park. Breakfast was phenomenal and we were able to choose what we wanted from the menu and what time we wanted to eat at a private table. Per my request, we even had a miniature professional anniversary cake in our room when we arrived! Innkeeper was attentive to every request and I will definitely be coming again. read more

We stayed at the Inn for our anniversary. Lovely room, very homey and romantic. We learned a lot about the Inn and we had a full tour of all the rooms. Breakfast was delicious, we started out with coffee & pastry's in the room and then finished with a full breakfast downstairs at our leisure. The Inn is ocated very close to downtown Mt Pleasant, we had dinner at the Brass Cafe and then walked around and enjoyed all the shops. On Saturday night a friend and I had THE most amazing 5 course dinner at ADELAIDE'S Bistro at The Ginkgo Tree Inn! Pampered, BEAUTIFUL and an amazing display of savory salmon and flounder! This is an amazing place. Every detail in the decor is meticulous. The innkeeper welcomed us with a glass of wine and tour of the inn. Since the restaurant is no longer serving lunch or dinner, she recommended alternatives in nearby downtown Mt. Pleasant.. The bed was fit for a king, so comfortable. After a scrumptious dessert (Lemon Italian cream cake) served in our room, we selected a DVD to watch from the library. Breakfast of fesh fruit, yogurt and pumpkin pancakes with bacon was served at our requested time. All in all, an excellent experience. We look forward to coming again! read more
