Giraffe Victoria - We had an Airbnb around the corner and were craving something nearby and easy, so we stopped by after seeing the decent reviews on Google Maps. Only later did I realize this was part of a chain, and honestly, the food reflected that. We ordered the halloumi fries and the katsu chicken curry. The halloumi fries came sprinkled with a bit of pomegranate but didn't taste very fresh. They were slathered in a mayo dressing and came with only about 7 pieces -- overall just a 3/5. The chicken katsu curry was also nothing special. The flavor felt flat and left me wanting more. I'll keep this one short and sweet. I was not wowed. We went to the Giraffe on our last night in town and for what we were expecting we were disappointed. I ordered the sirloin which is all I can speak to. It was ordered medium, it came to the table medium well and the cut of meat was reminiscent of something a cobbler would use to fix the sole of an army boot. It was not an enjoyable piece of steak. The server was difficult to get attention from. We had to flag her down practically every time we needed something, and when we were ready to pay she was busying herself going between three other tables and conversing with the bartender. With all the other options five minute's walk through the neighbourhood i think I would skip this place next time and try my hand at something different. read more

Stopped in here this morning on our way to the station. Had such a great experience that we stopped in for dinner on our way back to the hotel this evening. This morning I had the Avo Toast with bacon and poached egg. Bacon was perfectly crispy and there was a good amount. The poached egg was done really well and not served watery. My husband had the strawberries and cream pancakes and enjoyed them. For dinner I had the prawn gyoza and loaded (toppled?) fries. He had the rodeo chicken sandwich. Everything was quite tasty. Oh! I had a giant cappuccino in the morning and a margarita this evening. He had a coconut smoothie and a strawberry smoothie and enjoyed both. Service was friendly. Ambiance was perfect for my liking: lively but not loud, clean, comfortable furniture. My only suggestion to the chef or manager would be to serve five gyoza instead of four. The number four in a few Asian languages (Mandarin and Japanese, as far as I know) sounds like the same word for "death" so it's always better to give five not four if you're superstitious. Had breakfast here on the day of HM Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. Many businesses were closed but this resto was open, so we walked in. Breakfast was good but better than that, the staff. We were glued on the TV watching the funeral. At about 11:00, the staff turned down the music and turned up the volume of the TV for us. We had paid the bill but remained standing following what's happening on TV and the staff allowed us to do so. For that alone, I'd recommend this place. Vegan-friendly breakfast joint with a vegan English breakfast, but the execution is a bit lacking and they try to tack on service charges. We stopped in for a vegan English breakfast (£12) one morning, which comes with vegan bacon (x2), vegan sausage (x1), guacamole, fried potato, tomato, and mushrooms. It didn't come with baked beans, so we added it for another £1.50. The bacon was very fermented-tasting, like corned beef -- interesting but a bit too harsh. The sausage was Quorn and nicely textured. The gauc didn't quite work and was too citric to go with the rest of the food. The tomato and mushrooms were simple and fine. The potato was heavily deep-friend, McDonald's-like hashbrowns, which aren't my thing. When we got the bill, they had tacked on a 12.5% service charge that is optional, but they'll charge it to you if you're not paying attention -- borderline deceptive. My sister was craving a burger. We were on our way to another restaurant when the 50% off all burgers on Tuesday sign from Giraffe grabbed her attention. The place was packed! We were greeted by a friendly server who told us the wait time would be 10 minutes tops, but it was more like 20 something minutes. He apologized for the misquoted wait time and seated us as soon as a table became available. Instead of ordering a juice burger that would drip all over your face as you bite into it, my sister opted for the healthy alternative that they called the Naked burger. It had no buns and was replaced by leafy greens and veggies. I chose the chicken katsu curry with all that delicious carbolicious rice! The curry was nicely blended with the chicken. The green onion complimented the dish well. For dessert, we got the churro for one, which came with 5 sticks of churro with chocolate dipping sauce. Was staying at The Premier around the corner and was drawn in by the happy hour special, 2 for 1. We were seated quickly and the waitresses were attentive. I ordered the fish and chips and my husband ordered the cheesy burger. The food came out within 5 minutes which was surprising but it was piping hot. I know the food choices around Victoria are limited, but I thought Giraffe was a pretty good find -- especially if you're hunting for food a little later on in the evening! It's a chain, but still has a lot of character all on its own. We were eating pretty late, and this was one of the few decent-looking places still open for dinner. They have a pretty good deal where you can get a starter and a main for under £I0, though the choices are limited. I wasn't feeling any of those and had the rump steak sandwich with chips instead. The steak sandwich was huge! Even though I was starving, I only managed to finish a tasty half. Well we stuck to Wilton Rd for dinner this week and that's how we found Giraffe. Their menu is very diverse so it's great to have such different options. I ordered a plain burger with avocado. I notice they don't ask you how you want it cooked in London but since I like well done, I was fine. My daughter, the medium rare eater, not so much. Only thing I found about my burger was the avocado wasn't ready yet. As someone who eats A LOt of avocado this one wasn't ripe yet. I'm surprised they were able to cut it. My son got the taco tapas and he liked them. My daughter liked her burger. And hubby said his enchiladas were fine. Service was excellent!!! And finished with the churros that were so yummy! My husband and I stopped in here shortly after 12:00 pm yesterday for lunch quite hungry when we arrived in London. We had eaten at their location st Heathrow and enjoyed it, and were encouraged by the reviews left fellow Yelpers. Alas, we received very inconsistent service. It was a bad start when we sat in a nearly empty restaurant and the waitress came up to us and said after 10 minutes, did you order? I told her that we hadn't even seen menus. She gave us only the breakfast menus. I didn't want breakfast and should have asked if they had a larger menu. I noticed other people were eating other food. I don't know why I was so bashful. Probably was tired from a very long trip and had been awake due to an early morning flight. We each placed our order. When placing mine, we informed our server of my allergies. She said no problem - that the entree didn't have that but she would inform the kitchen. Our plates were our places in front of us and I began eating. Suddenly, one of the waitresses (there was a steady rotation of people at our table rather than someone who was assigned) pulled my plate away saying "Wait! Hold on. I have to check something with the kitchen". My plate was removed and returned to the kitchen. I was told that the corn cakes had potatoes, something to which I am allergic. I had eaten half of one. They said they would make me ones without (they didn't) Five minutes later my plate was returned without the corn cakes and by then the eggs were cold. Had I known that, I would have ordered something else. Again, I wish I was given the full menu. One of the waitresses apologized and comped the dish. Overall, it was a bad experience. I did experience some physical discomfort from having eaten the offending corn cake. For one, I think the staff needs to have better knowledge of the menu. Secondly, I think that they need to have people assigned to tables. It was way to chaotic. There also seems to be an absence of training overall. read more

We went there because it was across the street from our hotel and there were things on menu that we know our teenagers would eat. Food was great and service was fast and friendly. " We only looked at the vegan menu! It's her job to ask us what our preference is. If we'd ordered a steak, would she ask our preference as to temperature?? I went here with my boyfriend at about 3 pm on a Friday. It wasn't busy, the food came out quickly, and they had a decent amount of vegetarian options. We chose the bruschetta bites, delux falafel burger, and phod malay noodles. For a £10 burger, I'm glad it was as good as it was. Not dry, plenty of toppings, and the choice of sweet potato fries, rather than the regular. My boyfriend ordered the malay noodles, which were too spicy for me.. But he seemed to enjoy them and said the flavor reminded him of samosas. The bruschetta was yummy, although a little wet and cold by the time we returned to our hotel (as expected). Lots of toppings though, which was great. I noticed another review saying they were upset that it wasn't a specific type of cuisine served, but that was honestly my favorite part. We were able to get asian noodles, Italian bruschetta, and a burger in one location.. It's like a delicious, vegetarian sampler! This casual and funky little restaurant was located right near the theater we were waiting to see Wicked at and we decided to get a quick bite before the show. The menu was very reasonably priced and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the duck stir fry and a strawberry lime cider, which I'm officially in love with. My fella ordered the chicken kiev and an apple cider. All the food was fantastic and filling, the drinks were sublime. First time trying Rekorderlig Cider, but it's addictive! My noodles were very light and flavorful. A great summer dish. My fella's chicken kiev was lightly battered and had just the right seasoning and sauce. Definitely a thumbs up for the food! We arrived at Giraffe around 7pm on a Wednesday. I was surprised to see how busy it was. Luckily, our party of 3 was seated right away. I chose the steak sandwich that came with fries, and my sandwich was delicious. The bread was nice and toasty, the steak was a nice medium well, and the blend of arugula and mayo was perfect. The sandwich also came with caramelized onions, but my dislike for any type of onion had me scraping it off right away. My companions both ordered the chicken schnitzel that came with an arugula salad and either mashed potatoes or fries. The chicken was breaded and flavored with garlic butter. It was good, but a little too buttery for my liking. We ordered 2 different desserts: the chocolate mousse crunch and the apple and cherry crumble. I LOVED the chocolate mouse crunch! It was rich while still being light and airy. The crumble was also good, but the apple and cherry portions weren't as flavorful as I expected. The crumble on top was delicious. It wasn't your run of the mill crumble made of flour, butter, and sugar. This had oats, raisins, slivered almonds, and hazelnuts. I would give this place a 5 star for food, but since the service was so slow, I'm giving them a 4 overall. read more

We ate dinner there yesterday and we have mixed feelings. We were walking by there in the morning and it looked very appealing, so we went inside and had a very pleasant/brief conversation with two of the people working there. We later returned for dinner....there was very loud music playing at that point, so - since the weather was good - we sat at one of the outdoor tables. The food was delicious and reasonably-priced (we each ordered the halloumi & falafel burger and sweet potato fries [10.95 pounds & 1 pound, respectively]). Our server was pleasant - but when it came time for us to pay, some strange and perturbing aspects commenced. First our server kept trying to get us to pay cash, but we refused. Then he returned very quickly and told us they were having problems with their credit card machine, therefore it might be awhile before we could pay with our credit card. We said "no problem". After that, he returned in literally one minute and told us the credit card machine was working. It was quite obvious that his boss (perhaps the owner) was aggressively attempting to get customers to pay cash. read more
