However, I have been forced to give up this amazing doctor, something that is difficult to find in NYC, for the same reason so many other reviewers have mentioned: his vile and off-putting receptionist, Terry. With her unpleasant disposition, unruly and dismissive banter, over-the-phone rudeness, refusal to answer the phones in lieu of sending EVERY call straight to voicemail during business hours, Terry would be better suited as a guardian of the gates of hell. Just look at the last year's worth of reviews. What was once a glowing 5 star Yelp reputation (and the reason I decided to go with Dr. Engel in the first place) has now been dragged down to a mediocre 3 1/2 star rating, besmirched by the evil darkness that is his front desk: the three-headed-dog Cerberus. I'll miss you, Dr Engel. If you ever decide to kick Terry to the curb I'd be back in a heartbeat.

And so I wanted to take the time to pay it forward to other Yelpers by noting that Dr Bungay has now moved his practice to NYU Langone Penn District over on 31st and 9th. I saw him there for the first time today and I have to tell you, I was IMPRESSED. The facility is brand spanking new and in amazing condition, and every staff member I met was friendly and helpful. The new office runs extremely efficiently. I arrived 10 minutes early, checked in at the electronic kiosk, and was welcomed in 2 minutes before my official 2pm appointment time by a nurse who did my intake. Dr Bungay saw me right after, and then another nurse came in to give me a quick and easy tetanus shot after about 5 minutes' wait. This facility also happens to have a phlebotomist onsite, and so I FINALLY got bloodwork done after years of never getting around to making a separate appointment at LabCorp downstairs! An extra bonus -- one of the nurses had already gotten me in "line" for the phlebotomist before I even walked out of Dr Bungay's office, so I had zero minutes of wait time once I walked down the hall to get there. Lab results began to roll into the patient portal later that same night, and I was notified by text message. All very impressive. Dr Bungay himself, of course, remains as gentle and caring of a doctor as he always has been. For anyone potentially worried about the loss of Gotham Med and the transition to the big faceless NYU Langone machine -- you don't need to be. It still feels like the kind and friendly practice that Dr Bungay's old office was, and now maybe even a little shinier!

Once he is in the office with you he takes his time to answer all your questions and make sure you are completely informed of your health. Any reservations or concerns I have when I walk in are addressed completely by the time I walk out of his office doors. Not only that but he also has several specialists that come into the office throughout the week to accommodate your schedule. His staff for the most part is very helpful and friendly, and even offers an on site lab to help expedite your care. The only reason I only gave four stars is because of the wait time in the office. Though I understand that he spends a significant amount of time with you once you are in the room. Expect to be in the office for a few hours.

The room I was waiting in was very clean, see photos. If you're worried about other people hearing you speak with your doctor, then this isn't the location for you. Bathroom Alert: The bathroom was super clean. I like how it was cleaned right after I used it. I am happy knowing I won't get an infection from the bathroom. I like the nurse who helped me when I had to draw a urinalysis. She explained everything in detail. She walked me to the bathroom just in case I had to faint. I greatly appreciate her. I appreciate how patient she was with my responses. I didn't get to see my regular doctor, so I needed to see her PA. I appreciated the type of care I received from her. She is amazing and explained that if I needed to go to the hospital it would be my actual doctor who would be doing the procedure. But unfortunately my doctor is on maternity leave. It's a wonderful thing to not have to sit and wait hours and hours in the physician's waiting room whilst pouring over old tattered magazines on the coffee tables of yore. Plus, with the convenient NYU Medical App on my smartphone: (1.) my appointment was confirmed a week prior to (2.) I was able to fill out those hundred page forms asking for my life's memoirs with my medical history dating back to my grandparents. So convenient in every way! The doctor I wanted to see was not available for 2 and a 1/2 wks so they talked me into booking him. I called to say I would be 5 mins late and was right down the street and they said fine they had a 15 min grace period. When I arrived on 5th Avenue, it was 3:05pm. But they give you the wrong address claiming the office is at 535 5th Avenue when it is actually on 44th street. To make matters much worse, the operator on the phone claimed she didn't know where it was because they use call centers instead of on-site receptionists! So I spent an extra 12 mins walking up 5th Avenue trying to find the office! When I finally arrived at 3:17pm, they claimed I would have to rebook because it was already past the 15 min grace time even though this was their fault. I had passed right by the building at 3:04pm. So I would've been on time had THEY given me the proper entrance information. I ended up sobbing hysterically in the reception area because it was late on a Friday & I did not want to risk being in pain all weekend. No one cared and they did nothing to rectify the situation. When I asked if Iroku could see me for the last 10 mins before his next appointment they claimed he was already with another patient, which made no sense! How could that be if there is a 15-minute grace period? And no one walked in while I was waiting, except his 3:30pm patient, who would've been AFTER me. And what kind of doctor would leave a patient in pain & tears? What kind of good HUMAN BEING would do so? This was a truly awful experience and it is clear to me that these doctors are not spending enough time with their patients. 15 minutes is not enough time to thoroughly vet what is going on with patients, especially not new ones. I wish I had gone with my initial gut and kept researching other doctors instead of letting myself be talked into booking an appointment with this awful man. The only good thing is the cruelty shown to me by this awful place and this doctor means I likely dodged a bullet. Avoid the 535 5th Ave office which is actually on 44th St between Madison and 5th at all costs. Hopefully, the William St office is not as badly run.
