My 12-year-old went to Amplify for the first time, and she had the BEST time. We drove in from out of state, and it was absolutely worth it. She chose the rock band intensive, where she learned to play bass and collaborated with her bandmates and instructors, Effy and Sarah, to write and perform an original song at the end of camp on stage. She was so excited when other girls asked for her autograph after the performance! The best part of the experience was that she found "her people." She met girls who were kind, encouraging, supportive, and just a little edgier, which made her feel like she truly belonged. She also loved that all-girl bands came to camp to perform and stayed afterward for Q&A sessions with the girls. One of her favorite days was Field Day, which still makes me laugh because she does not like PE at school. I love that Amplify has a focus on music and arts, but still keeps some of the traditional campy activities. As a parent, I really appreciated that the camp nurse called before camp to discuss my daughter's medical needs and medications. The dining staff also did a great job accommodating her dairy-free diet with plenty of vegan options. She spoke positively about the counselors, especially Chloe. The campus was beautiful, and drop-off and pickup were both organized and easy. My daughter came home more confident, with new skills, deeper friendship, and memories she'll never forget. Before we were even home, she was already asking if she could come back next year and stay longer than two weeks. I think that says a lot. read more

This is truly the best camp ever! My daughter was introduced to it two years ago, and she fell in love instantly -- with the camp, the program, the counselors, everything. She made so many amazing friends and is still in touch with many of them today. I'll never forget picking her up that first year: she was literally surrounded by about ten friends and didn't want to leave! ‍ And that was her first sleepaway camp experience. She talked about camp nonstop for weeks afterward and counted down the days until she could go back. This year was just as incredible -- even better, actually -- because some of the same kids returned, and the sense of community was so strong. The music program is fantastic. My daughter has attended sleepaway camp and enjoyed in the past. This camp, however, blew all other camps out of the water! She could not stop talking about what an incredible time she had. She said it was the first time she was able to be creative and work with like-minded individuals with amazing talents. She had NO problem keeping busy, making friends and having fun. She enjoyed the grilled sandwiches and all the watermelon to eat! Ha ha..those were her comments. She was thrilled with the dorm/environment...hung out outdoors on the grass and at the beach. My daughter has a great time at camp Amplify. It was her second visit. She made friends and learned an instrument. I'm also thankful for the staff whom are very courteous and kind. I'm saddened though to know my daughter had an experience as they all did with another camper who was taunted by another camper and one was sent home is what I understand. This is the fifth year I have sent my daughter to Girls Rock sleepaway camp. She absolutely LOVES it and cannot wait to go back each and every summer. The camp administrators are truly caring, creative, compassionate and amazing people. The campus in Ojai is beyond beautiful. She tells me that the food is delicious. Amplify Girls camp was not a good fit for my daughter. She does not have musical interests and was signed up for the journalism track. The journalism activities were school-like, and there were a lack of usual fun camp activities. She came home after 1 week of a 2 week camp session. I was not reimbursed at all for the second week that she did not stay for, of course. She had several birthday packages that were mailed to her at camp that never got returned to me, for which I got a delayed email apology but they had no way to track the packages and claimed them to be lost. If your daughter is not wanting to be in a band, then this likely is not the camp for her. read more

Our daughter LOVES this camp. The counsellors are amazingly supportive. The programming is fun and she has made great friends.

Girls Rock SB is the most amazing program my daughter has had the experience to join! Our lives have been enhanced tremendously by being a part of this program. My daughter Alyssa has had an amazing experience at Girls Rock SB ! She loved the Summer camps, and has taken electrical violin and drumming lessons. Alyssa and her band, wrote, and composed and performed their own song and she is only 9! How cool is that!!!? Girls Rock SB is such a great environment, they prepare students to be leaders in music, and offer Music Performance, Music Production, and Composition in a friendly and very positive environment. I absolutely love the teachers and staff here! Jen the Director is amazing: friendly, talented, and very encouraging. Alyssa loves Deidre her drumming instructor, she is knowledgeable, patient, friendly and always has great methods on how to improve her playing skills. She also loved her violin teacher that within 8 weeks was able to teach her how to play a song! Girls Rock SB is the best! My daughter attended a 1 week rock camp with this org. The camp was not inspired, nor were the teachers. My daughter's particular teacher was short tempered, and resentful that the students seemed to be non-musicians, though the camps clearly said it was for total beginners with NO experience. Perhaps they were alluding to the women who run the camp, who played a few songs at the end of the week show and surprisingly were awful. I am sorry, but it was really not good. Moreover, the org claims to be a non-profit, when all I could see was profit! There is a refusal to give out any tax deduction slips, and an insistence that there are scholarships for underprivileged girls. I saw none there...just the usual Crane/laguna private school kids...Also, and most important is that they tout a showcase at SOHO at the end, and keep reminding the kids to bring everyone they know; relatives, friends, neighbors. They fail to mention until the door, that there is a whopping $20 fee to see the show!!! For kids who have NEVER played and instructors who sound awful. REAL shows are free or less, and SOHO makes the $ off the booze and food anyway. When I asked about the fee, Girls Rock admitted that they keep all of it, but once again said it goes to a foundation! REALLY? I asked all week to get info on it, and surprise...nothing! Also disappointing is that NONE of the fee is a deduction, and if it is a gift to charity (a real one) then some info is required to be available. DOn't be scammed! It's a VERY expensive camp, and I figure they pocketed 30-40k in 5 days and we got nothing. We even had to provide the camp shirt! The women were very unpleasant to me at all times, so obviously in it for the $. Stay away. The best camp we did all summer was less than half the cost!!!!!!! read more
