I am very pleased with the prompt, professional service I received from Giron Construction in diagnosing and fixing a leaking roof for me. I had tried to fix leak myself, but discovered when it rained again, it leaked again. I realized I had not figured out where the leak was actually starting from, nor did I know how to locate it. So, I started calling roofing companies in Portland and discovered none that I called did repairs...they were all focused on replacing the whole roof. Finally, one company suggested I call Giron, which I did. I got a live person when I called, no frustrating phone tree, and she was very efficient, took down information on my leak problem, and said I would receive a call soon. I did, later the same day, Jose Giron, the co-owner called me. He said he would come out the next morning, and he was there as he promised. He inspected the place upstairs, inside the house, where the leak was coming in. Then he went up on the roof, inspected everything, and said the leak was coming at the base of the stove vent on the roof, and also said two other roof vents were in bad shape and should be replaced before they started leaking. I had noticed that when I had been up on the roof, but didn't know how to replace them. He gave me an estimate to repair the leaking stove vent and the other two vents, which I consider a very fair price, and I asked him to schedule the work. He said there were some other repair jobs ahead of mine, but it would be soon. To my pleasant surprise, he called back within an hour and said the job would be done later in the day...which it was! I realize not every job can be done the same day, but I can say that Jose is a man of his word, he is very professional, very knowledgeable and very good at explaining what the problem is and how it will be repaired. And one thing I really appreciated, was that he gave me a professional analysis of the roof, which is 13 years old, but did not try to sell me a new roof job, or put any pressure on me at all. Teo, Jose and team just put a brand new roof on our house. We had an original wood shake roof that had no ply wood underneath. Giron ripped everything off, installed new plywood, and comp shingle. They did an amazing job. The new roof looks great! The quality and attention to little things was great. For example, they thought (without me asking) to put all the roof vents and pipes on the back side of the house....so that the roof looks super nice/clean from the front street side of the house. On top of that, they kept a very clean work site. They did a quick clean up at the end of each day and also came back out after everything was done and used a magnet to pick up any remaining nails/staples. Another thing I liked is the owner (Teo) would text me every evening to check in with me on how things were going and how I felt. Similarly, his office would also call me each night to check in. It was great because I could bring up anything that was on my mind and/or things I wanted to make sure they addressed as the project progressed. Great service! Yet another great thing was they they fit me in their schedule very quickly (within 1 week of our initial quote meeting!). We were having our house painted so they wanted to accommodate me and get the roof done before the painting started. Amazing. Other roof companies I talked to weren't willing to start for a month or more. On that note, I will say that I got quotes from 4 other roofing companies. All came in around the same price (roughly $20k to $27k). Giron was in the lower to mid end of that range, so their pricing was very competitive. On top of this, they also did a few other little things for me that were completely unrelated to the roof, like repair some fascia boards and fix several wood window trims. This was unbelievably nice of them and made my life so much easier (e.g. I now don't have to find a handyman to do this work). Overall, I am very happy with the work and experience. Assuming the roof holds up and doesn't leak etc over the next 20+ years, I am extremely happy and will hire them for any future jobs. read more

Excellent experience! Highly recommended! After some rain damage this winter, we decided to do a complete roof replacement. We requested bids from four local roofing companies and Giron was the obvious choice. Jose was professional, friendly and provided a very reasonable bid. We scheduled the work for three weeks out, but due to another customer rescheduling, were able to have a crew onsite the very next week. I was at home the first day, when a large crew (10 guys) tore off two layers of roofing and loaded the Dumpster they'd brought in. The crew were very hard workers and extremely efficient - also very courteous. We have a lot of elderly neighbors and several commented on how quick and quiet the crew was. There was no loud music, no shouting, just the sound of the work itself. By the end of day one, the roof was stripped down and tightly sealed, as heavy rain was expected that night. And it came! It absolutely poured and winds were strong, but when we woke up in the morning, the house was water tight. No problems at all. When we returned from work on day two, the roof was FINISHED and the crew was finishing their clean up. My husband is very particular about our yard- mature plants he was worried might be destroyed, landscaping, etc. To our total delight, the yard was immaculate. You couldn't even tell there had been a major construction project underway. Day three was a whole new gutter system and again, it was finished by the time we returned from work. Only 3 days to tear off and replace a roof and gutter system! The invoice came in a little lower that Jose had estimated, which was great. I can't recommend this company enough, Communication was excellent, via phone, email and in person. The work was stellar, the crew excellent to deal with and we have now hired Giron to paint the house.Two of our neighbors who witnessed the job have already contacted Jose for estimates. We are so pleased with our experience with Giron. Their bid was the lowest of 3 bids we received and we were a bit nervous about that but we chose them based on the positive BBB and Angie's List reviews. We have a ranch style home with a large roof that had 3 layers of roofing. The first layer was shingle without decking, so it was a big tear off. We also had a garden shed that needed to be re-roofed as well. We have new trees in our front yard as well as old box woods that were protected. We have a busy street and a 2 foot retaining wall in front that could have easily been damaged but they were so careful to take care of our property. Their clean up was really good. They went a 1/2 day longer than expected but they worked so hard from sun up to sun down and they found some rotten wood on our garden shed which they replaced without a problem. The crew was mostly Spanish speaking and very polite. The foreman was English speaking and always there when we had a question. We really liked Eric the sales and assessment person. They called after the first day to check in and see how it was going. The owner Teo stopped by the job to check how it was going. He raised legitimate concerns about some gutter covers that we had purchased and he was right!! After we worked with them we confirmed that they did not fit and would have caused us problems. We could not have asked for a better experience!! Kim & Doug TIP: if your roof tear off includes a shingled layer without decking (or your decking needs to be replaced) you need to tarp over your insulation in the attic due to the large amount of shingle debris that falls.It really helps with the clean up in the attic. We are completely satisfied with our roofing experience by Giron. This is truly a professional roofing company, from the salesperson to the workers. We were provided with cell phone numbers so we could get assistance any time we needed it. Everyone showed up when promised and the job was completed on time. The supervisor and the business office checked in with us frequently to see if we were happy, and to alert us of needed repairs to our chimney flashing. They even recommended three chimney masons and a gutter company. The crew was pleasant, respectful, and quiet as they worked - no yelling, cursing or loud music. They took breaks like clockwork, which tells me that Giron treats them well. A portable toilet was also placed on our property, further indicating respect for workers and property owners. The crew worked extra long hours when there was rain in the forecast, and always covered the roof with tarps nightly, even when rain wasn't expected. Additional tarps were used to protect our plants from falling debris. The entire site was cleaned up nightly, and we only ever found two pieces of old roofing materials and one staple left behind! We've never had any construction team that cleaned up so well. The only hassle we had was when the dumpster and portable toilet weren't removed in the timeframe promised. When I texted the supervisor about it, they were removed the same day - even on a Sunday! This was actually a good experience! Well planned and executed in a timely fashion. Our project was completed in three days and there were never less than ten roofers on the project with two additional men on the ground supporting those on the roof and cleaning up the debris. We obtained six proposals for this project from roofing companies in the greater Portland/Vancouver area. Giron Roofing was not the low bidder however they provided a complete scope that met my specifications for roofing and venting as well as a superior roofing/warranty package. As a facility manager I have used Malarkey products on several large buildings. I called my local roofing consultant to enquire about Giron Roofing to determine if they were certified to install their products. I found out they were well known at Malarkey and were one of three residential companies to receive their Emerald rating. This Emerald rating provided an additional factory warranty and was an incentive when comparing the six proposals. After determining to award the project to Giron Roofing, I requested several changes be made to their contract. They made those changes at my request and delivered a completed project ahead of schedule and with no surprises or additional cost. Additionally I never received less than two calls from their office at the end of each day enquiring how things were going and if there were any concerns or questions that I needed them to address. Giron roofing just finished putting a 40 year roof on my midsized house after 3.5 days of steady work. From the initial contact to the final inspection, I was impressed with their dedication in doing a job of which they could be proud. The day after I first contacted their office, their representative visited our home and provided a much needed education on the contemporary science of roof construction. This paved the way for me and my wife making informed decisions regarding the many options that need to be considered when re-roofing one's house. Giron roofing was one of 4 contractors that gave us bids; we chose them based on their 16 years of experience in the business, excellent reviews, appropriate advice on the costs of different options, the ability to get started within a couple of weeks and lack of pressure to close the deal. Moreover, they have an informative website where one can click on houses that they have re-roofed and learn details of the shingles etc. The workers were respectful of our need to have a a clear route into our garage and avoid damage to our trees and shrubs; unlike some dump trucks, their's had rubber wheels to avoid damage to one's driveway. At the end of the day their clean up left no evidence of the hive of activity that had been present over the preceding few days. This is our second time using Giron Roofing. The first time was for our house, and this most recent time was for our detached garage. The garage is a two-story structure with living space above, and the roof is steep. It was a more complicated job than I originally thought, and Giron Roofing did a splendid job replacing old cedar shingles with new composite ones, while maintaining the same aesthetic look as before. They were able to fit me into the schedule in a very timely manner, and due to concerns that there might not be plywood beneath, they made sure to schedule my job during a dry patch of weather, which was very reassuring. Prior to the job, Lester began a text thread with all involved people (Benny to drop off the dump truck, Jose and his crew, Daisy in the office, Lester for the project management, etc.) In this manner, communication was clear and easy. Both Jose and Lester stopped by regularly to check on the crew and to make sure I was happy. If I had any questions, everyone was easily available via text or phone. There were no surprises other than ones they'd prepped me for (such as - there was no plywood!) The crew protected the areas and cleaned up well after. When Benny came back to take away the dump truck, he even cleaned up more, vacuuming out sawdust from hard-to-reach areas. Very happy with our new roof! read more

After the first big winter storm of the year I went out to check my yard for damages and found several roof shingles scattered around my yard. The damage was due to high winds. I did some research and after speaking with many roofers who were booked far into the future, I came across Giron construction. Ironically one of my neighbors had used them recently and raved about the quality of work they had done for him. One of the owners quickly scheduled an appointment and came out to provide an estimate. He provided a detailed description of what the job entailed along with a fair estimate of charges. After signing the contract they went to work immediately. The job was completed on schedule and met all of my expectations. This is a company that stands by their word and insists on providing customer satisfaction. They are friendly and professional. The materials used are of the highest quality. Highly Recommend! Excellent - knowledgeable, dependable, courteous, diligent & competitive. Friends have also used them with the same great results as ours - no regrets, all interactions positive. Large crew (from five through eight, depending) were professional, on-time, courteous, hard working and diligent to details and pickup afterwards. Our 30 year old roof in SW Portland was torn down (three layers of shingles removed) and resurfaced with plywood (we had large gaps between shiplap roof decking, requiring plywood recover) in one day. Access for removal was tight and labor demanding - but they did it no problem and without damage to surroundings or garden. New roof and enhanced venting was installed the next day. They were honest, reliable and most importantly did excellent work and we have a great roof with good warranty. After job completion a walk through assured our satisfaction. They just replaced the roof, so this is not a long term review--although my neighbor used Giron several years ago and highly recommends them. They did a great job! The roof looks really nice; they were clean and courteous. I didn't buy the cheapest roof; I bought what I thought was the best value, and that was Giron with Malarkey shingles. I read a lot of reviews of other companies first, and what I saw was that roof complaints usually have two parts: 1. the roof didn't last as long as expected and 2. terrible warranty experiences via phone, email, and mailing shingle samples to a far away manufacturer. So I decided to go with Giron because they use Malarkey shingles, which are made right here in Portland, and Malarkey certifies their installers, with Giron being in the top level (premium) of certification. If I ever have a problem, I can visit the manufacturer bc both the shingles and the installer are certified by them. Giron also replaced my rotted bargeboards with nice new ones at a reasonable price--it was super easy. read more

These guys like to scam you into thinking you need a whole new roof when you just need a repair. Had them out to give us an estimate on a leak on a relatively new roof. Jose climbed up on the roof, came down and proceeded to tell me all the problems with how the roof had been installed and that it needed to be completely replaced. I asked him for information on what was causing the actual leak and he wouldn't tell me. He wrote up a quote for a roof replacement and when I asked him to also write a quote for just the repair, he said, "how about a tarp?" After he left, I read through reviews more carefully on yelp and other sites and noticed that a lot of people reviewing them wrote about how "helpful" they were in identifying all the problems with their roof and that most people reviewing them had a total roof replacement rather than just a small repair. We had another company come out and do the repair for $400. This was about 3 years ago and our roof has held up great since, no tarp necessary! read more

You know that person/company that you work with, and the after talking with them for a few minutes you just KNOW this is the right choice? Well, Jose with Giron Roofing is that company! This home is one of our rental homes and our renter (at the last moment) notified me they were possibly going to need to do some live video conference calls from the home, during the scheduled time the roofing work was to begin. Jose and his team were VERY understanding and provided an option to start the job the following week. Being flexible in their schedule, to met the needs of our tenants was a pleasant surprise. The last thing to note, is on the day they arrived, they placed a door tag on the neighbors homes, explaining they would be there during the week and there would be large vehicles and a lot of noise from job. I'm very happy with the roof replacement done by Giron. Their quote was among the lowest I received and they use only Malarkey shingles, which are excellent quality. The crew was polite and helpful, and were patient with all my questions. They left the premises clean. When a problem developed with a gutter a few days after the job was done, one of their men came out and spent a significant amount of time trying to fix it, and when he wasn't able to, he called the gutter company they work with. He made it clear that if Giron caused the problem they would make it right. On the day the gutter people came, the Giron person came back to see what the problem was. It turned out not to be their fault, but I feel confident they would have done the right thing. I was asked to post a review but I don't believe I will get anything from the company for doing so. 'New roof'... our experience was amazing start to finish. First, the sales rep was personable, freindly, down to earth, and very honest... we received 2 other quotes and they both suggested unnecessary changes/add-ons. we were given several options and not pressured at all. He worked with our schedule and also came back out after our initial meeting to check on something suggested by another company to see if it was needed... it wasnt. Communication was great, answered all our questions day or night, always got a response. Last but not least, the crew mananger also had great communication, let us know that they had an opening in weather, and could start 2 weeks early!
