Sawtooth did a fabulous job re-roofing our house! It was a complete tear-off and replacement. From Darrin's initial visit, through tweaking the quote, and the job itself, communication was top-notch. Pricing of the project was very reasonable; I think it was the second-lowest quote we got, but Sawtooth's materials and warranty were better. Jose and his crew did a great job. During the job, every day's end-of-day cleanup was great. The end result looks beautiful, and we're very happy with the way everything went. The high end materials and awesome warranty also add to the satisfaction of a job well done. One hiccup: 2 fascia boards with some minor dry-rot at their ends were supposed to be replaced before the installation of new gutters (new gutters were part of the project). Somehow that fell through the cracks, and the gutters went up over the 2 boards. Darrin quickly took ownership of the issue, and did a great job of repairing/rebuilding the corner where the problem was. Very satisfied with the response to the issue! Suggestion to Sawtooth: if new gutters are in the project, they need to be included in the project scope all the way to the end. That includes final inspection and invoicing. The QA inspection by Nick should have been done AFTER the gutters were installed, not before. The inspection should include both the roof and the gutters, not just the roof. The final invoice should be emailed AFTER the gutters are installed, and all issues are settled. read more

After a few bids we chose Sawtooth roofing for our new roof. Darrin the project manager came out, addressed our concerns, inspected the roof and gave us a fair bid. He explained everything they would do and also explained there would be some additional costs due to some facia boards that needed replacing and possibly plywood sheets. Of course they wouldn't know until the old shingles were removed but let us know the approx. cost per piece with installation. So we had a good idea what we were looking at. We also needed a bathroom fan vented out of the roof to meet building codes. Darrin was also the only one who noticed we had LeafGuard gutters and so not to void the LeafGuard warranty LeafGuard would have to remove them to replace the facia boards that needed replacing. He also brought to our attention that our chimney cap was crumbling and in desperate need of some work. He referred a chimney/masonry company who we used and couldn't have been happier with their work as well. We had the chimney work done first then scheduled the roof. We were impressed with his attention to detail. They scheduled to project and kept us updated in the event there was a delay due to weather so we could plan accordingly. The crew of 3 roofers were amazing, worked so hard and cleaned up nicely afterward. They completed our roof in 2 days which was so appreciated. Nick the quality and safety inspector came out daily to touch base with the workers and informing us of how things were going and asking if we had any concerns. He said to call anytime with questions. At the end of the project he came out again to inspect the roof and all the work done. Another reason we chose Sawtooth was because of their excellent warranty on products and labor. Throughout the project from beginning to end this company was very responsive to all our calls with questions and communicated wonderfully, which was so appreciated. They did some work for us right after we moved into our home; I chose them because their bid was significantly lower than others and we had stretched ourselves financially to achieve homeownership. The subcontractor they sent used our roof as a place to cut shingles, with no protective mat, and we had to hire another roofer to fix *both* the ensuing leak *and* the poor job the subcontractor did on the original problem. I have since learned to ask whether the people who will be doing the work are regular employees or subcontractors -- you want regular employees. You get what you pay for; I recommend sticking with more reputable operations. read more

I called Sawtooth after my son's ceiling started to show water damage. I had one other company who came out and gave me a $1500 bid, so was a little panicked. Luckily, Sawtooth came the next day and let me know it was just the seal around a screw near the chimney that had deteriorated. He said he would have fixed it while inspecting, but didn't have a drill. He asked if I felt comfortable getting up there and when I said yes, so he gave me a handful of screws with gaskets to fix the issue. I can report after several months, that this was the fix that was needed and we have had no issues since he came out in January. They didn't charge for anything and I will definitely use them again! read more

This company will say they repaired a roof in real estate transactions but don't actually repair or replace anything. We are dealing with a home sale where we have a Sawtooth work order stating our sale included a 30 year roof in 2006. This is false. They hung up on us when we called them out. The work was never done and the roof is beyond rotted today. We will have to fix it for the next buyers. As human beings, buyers and sellers can do their part to fix the affordable housing crisis. These deceptive and predatory business practices directly result in higher seller prices and bank fraud. Consumers pay for this price, not the contractors. Don't ever hire this company. read more

These guys are the worst. We hired them to do work on our roof and reseal it. Right before a massive rainstorm was predicted to hit we asked them "should we postpone the work?" They said it would be fine and went ahead. Well they were wrong and the whole top floor of our building flooded. Then after we decide "maybe we should look at a different roofer" then tried to hit us with a massive contract cancellation fee. So our board, obligated, went along with them and decided to finish out the contract. They come back to finish the work and like the pros they are, dumped a bucket of sealant in the elevator. Which as you can imagine leaked a mustard gas like fumes throughout the entire building and trapping people in their condos and out of our building. Instead of doing the responsible thing and venting the building out and apologizing or owning it, they just left... Steer clear of these guys if you want quality work done. Hiring them will only bring disaster... read more

There roofs will leak within two years. I've already have had them come back out a few times for different leaks. What I was told. Was that it will continue to leak and it's going to leak everywhere because of wrong installation. There prices are off the wall. My neighbor wanted there moss and gutters cleaned. They didn't do anything but treat the moss. Didn't even blow off the back of the roof. All the gutters where still dirty and no moss was done. I asked for pictures. They maybe had four pictures and none of them where what was spouse to be done. When they where asked to come back out and do the job right like I paid for. They told my neighbor. That they would be charged again and double. If they did come back out it wouldn't be for 3-4 weeks. I'll never use them again or refer them to no one I know. read more

We got bids from three roofing company's that all had great reviews. Sawtooth came out, took a careful look and answered my questions. The brochures that we were given made selecting a roof color very easy, and even before they knew that we had selected them, they had researched the availability of the color we wanted to make sure they had enough in the Portland area to do our job (we selected Chateau Green). The next morning, the completed bid was in my e-mail ready for me to review; fast. The other bids took a few days and one bid required a few phone calls to the company before I got the bid a week later. We went with Sawtooth because the bid was ideal for us and our budget; one bid was over twice as much and it wasn't worth it. On the Friday before our Monday install, all the materials needed for the job were delivered to the house (ideally, the materials are distributed on the roof using a boom with a conveyer belt so everything is ready for the roofing team when they arrive - but, in our case, the boom wouldn't reach the roof, so everything was placed our yard). On the scheduled day a debris dumpster was delivered at 7:30am and the roofing team arrived at 8 and started work. The workers worked very fast and efficiently and the job was completed by 3pm on the second day. The installers did a great job cleaning up afterwards and they even cleaned the moss stains off one of our hard to reach rear dormers. That was above and beyond what they had to do, it was great. Do not trust your estimates from Sawtooth Roofing. I was given an estimate for new skylights. It was a binding contract, which I was held to for 15 days. They did not hold up their end of the deal. The cost of my estimate was increased 2 1/2 times, supposedly because my skylights were measured incorrectly, thus costing more. Gary, the estimator, and Pete, the manager, stated they could not 'lose money' by sticking to the cost of the original estimate. Nothing was done to resolve this in the principal of good customer service. Find a different roofing company. Don't settle for poor customer service. read more

This review, unfortunately, is my experience starting a year ago and is still ongoing. This is not a fake review, nor has anyone asked me to write it. I have made every effort to try and resolve the poor workmanship, poor customer service and mostly the fact that my 1yr old roof is currently leaking. Sawtooth installed the entire roof 1yr ago, and after a growing number of issues with this company, they "fixed" the roof yesterday and it is leaking again today. I will follow up with another review when this situation is resolved and hopefully will have some better news, but at this point it seems that the only way to get a response from sawtooth roofing is to write a review. I hope that you contact me very soon to resolve this. I'm so glad that you take the time to defend yourself so quickly on Yelp and yes, you had a tech out quickly this morning. But to be fair, the roof was installed last year and I called with concerns late November (2 weeks after installation) without response, finally received a response after several attempts and a tech came out to assess with no resolution. Then in May I called again when the ceiling collapsed. Your PM came out and blamed the construction. Your QA tech informed me that he has pictures from my house throughout the year, your failure to paint a full picture just illustrates your lack of honest communication skills. All said, your company did the initial purchase inspection and then the installation and although your PM notified me during installation that the construction was unusual, he assured me that there would be no issues. I chose your company due to the initial detail and professionalism in the quote, I wish that detail and professionalism extended to everything that happened after the initial quote. If you took more care with responding to costumers in a professional way and took accountability for gaps in communication and quality of work, you would find that this process would be so easy. read more

Darren from Sawtooth came out to our house quickly, took a good look at our leak, discovered it was a plumbing vent pipe that had a leaky boot, and replaced it on the spot FOR FREE. I was really impressed, and grateful. He also took a good look at a few things to tell me when to replace, level of urgency and gave me an estimate of how long he thought our roof had left before needing to replace the whole thing. Sawtooth came recommended from a neighbor. We worked with Darrin on a the quote and scope. The roofing work was delayed but done well. However, they subcontracted the gutter work to another company who installed white gutters on our otherwise dark colored house without confirming color. Sadly, we now have to have the house painted at our expense to get it to look decent. Also, we were passed off to another person "Scott", who was supposedly responsible for punch list items to complete the roof work. After multiple phone calls and follow-up they completed one of five punch list items before threatening to not honor the roof warranty if we didn't pay the final invoice in full ASAP. We acquiesced and paid the invoice, and will now be hiring another company to come out to complete their punch list items. If you have alternatIve options, I would suggest trying another roofer. We cannot recommend Sawtooth Roofing. read more

We bought our house 5 years ago with a 2 year old roof that was replaced by Sawtooth. The former owner did not purchase the transferable warranty and did not state that is our purchase contract (which should have been offered and in the disclosure). long story short, after all of the crazy rains we had over the past winter we found we had a few leaks around one of our dormers. Insurance came out and stated that we had a pre-existing issue. I finally found out who did the work on the roof which should have still been under warranty. since it was a pre-existing issue they came out to fix with no charge. This is great customer service as a first time home-buyer dealing with something that was beyond her control. They did the right thing even if the listing realtor did not. I am a very disappointed customer and I do not give this type of review without serious consideration. I had sought bids from four roofing companies and although Sawtooth was not the lowest overall bid, I felt that the additional cost would be worth it in value and peace of mind; unfortunately, this did not turn out to be the case when the job was completed. During the job, Sawtooth's employees left debris all over the yard/patio and in trees/bushes, numerous nails were found and continue to be found around the house (we have a dog), but that kind of stuff can be overlooked and might just be par for the course. What was inexcusable was the damaged they caused when they cut into the siding when installing the flashing, which caused irrefutable and permanent damage to the siding as a direct result of their work. Ultimately, it ended up costing me an additional $6,600 to have portions of the siding replaced along with exterior paint, which were neccessary to protect against the elements. Prior to the additional work I approached them in an effort to remediate this damage and they refused to take any responsibility and also went as far as starting the construction lien process against me for withholding a portion of my final payment in an effort to bring them to the table to discuss further. So, not only was I the recipient of their siding damage, which cost a significant amount of money, but then to be threaten with a lien, in response to trying to have a mature conversation about the damaged caused is simply bad business. So, that was my experience... I can't stress enough that this is a group that you do not want to do business with. read more

They contracted to replace the roofs on our sunroom, the bay window and the small roof over our front door. After they completed the work, and we had our first rain, the interior wall of our sunroom suffered serious water damage. I called Sawtooth and was told of course the roof leaked because it leaked before they replaced the roof. Told as "a favor" to me they would come out and fix the problem. They did fix it. Then I realized the small roof over our front door was visiblly done wrong. They did come back and attempted to fix that problem. Next heavy rain and the interior walls in my bay window were soaked. My brand new paint job was ruined. Sawtooth refused to return and fix this. I had more than one roofer look at the roofs Sawtooth did and each roofer told me the work was done wrong and with the wrong materials. I have now learned Sawtooth failed to put down the proper water barriers and failed to seal properly the seams on the roofing materials. I have had to pay another company to fix the little roof over the front door and now have to pay to have the materials removed and a new roof installed on the bay window. I have had to pay to have the walls in the sunroom and the bay window repaired and repainted. I do NOT recommend Sawtooth. read more
