I tore a tendon in my rotator cuff because I lacked muscle. My physical therapist assigned…read moreexercises, but it seemed like I was prone to tearing other tendons if I didn't start building muscle. I chose Palo Alto Fit because of its location and one-on-one training rather than a group class at, let's say, 24H Fitness. Before coming here, I didn't know how to use any of the machines, how to target certain muscle groups, or how to set reasonable goals while keeping track of my progress. However, through each session, I've learned how to use these machines and set goals for the week (especially regarding diet and lifestyle choices) so when I go about my day to day or do workouts on my own, I know how to determine an appropriate goal, workout weight, or set up a machine properly for myself. I knew I needed someone to help me one-on-one to understand my areas of improvement, and when receiving help and support, I strongly value consistency in my mentor/coach/tutor, which it seems PAF also values. I've been able to reschedule sessions (even last minute) while keeping my same coach, which is another point of appreciation! PAF starts you off with a free fitness assessment where they take your in-body scan and you talk about your goals. Every 4 weeks, you do another scan, and it's been great seeing and physically feeling the results!! It's been about 6 months now, and I only go once a week due to finances and scheduling, but it's worth every penny and I genuinely look forward to my workouts with my coach. My coach, Coach Joshua Villagomez, is well-versed in physiology and genuinely listens to me during the workouts and when I say I want to focus on a specific thing for my body. He pushes me to grow stronger and beyond the limits of what I could have ever imagined myself doing, and seeing the progress in the results has been seriously worth it. I've completed physical therapy much quicker than anticipated, and I'm now able to do more than before in terms of shoulder mobility and usage. I'm extremely grateful to him! I know everyone says their coach is the best, but he's seriously THE BEST. One thing that really helped me personally for financing this fitness journey was the flexibility for packages. They asked for the payment for the 12-week package (chose this package based on my goals and schedule) upfront. I genuinely can't afford that, but Nina (the owner) was kind enough to make a custom package that was realistically payable for me. She didn't want to turn me away because at the end of the day, health is wealth, and she helped me make that a priority. I'm not quite a gym rat yet, maybe just gym gerbil, but I'm excited to continue my health journey with my coach and PAF! -- Other things to note: - lockers, showers, small microfiber towels provided - I've even borrowed workout gloves when I felt like my hands were hurting from lifting the bar (an unfamiliar thing for me) - everything is kept extremely clean; it even smells clean all the time - water fountain inside - very well temperature-controlled (it could be 10° or 100° outside, but the inside is a good room temp) and good air flow - high ceilings - natural light - parking is easy (lot behind the building, street parking, and city garage across the street)

After moving to NorCal, I was on the hunt for a gym that wasn't just another crowded space with…read morerandom workouts--and I finally found it at Functional Lifestyles Palo Alto. From day one, I felt at home. Francisco did my assessment and set the tone with a thoughtful, personalized approach. Corey, the owner, is so down-to-earth and even jumps in on classes. I've also trained with Jamie, Billy, and Damian, and every single coach brings both expertise and energy. They actually watch your form, coach you through adjustments, and push you in the right ways. What sets FL apart is their model: semi-private sessions (10 clients, 2 coaches), which means you get personalized attention without losing the motivation of a group atmosphere. The programming is smart--focused on movement quality, strength, and conditioning that translate into real-life performance. As someone training for Hyrox, this has been a game changer. The community here is just as strong as the workouts. People cheer each other on, and it truly feels like a team environment. Palo Alto, you're lucky to have this spot--I can't recommend it enough.

A nice acquaintance introduced me to this gym and I will admit that I was a bit intimidated. I've never really felt "at home" in a gym or workout place. But everyone was so nice and encouraging and from the first meeting this place showed me that it was really something else. We have officially been part of this community for three years now and I've never felt judged or diminished, rather appreciated and encouraged. Also, the community is so diverse, as are the coaches- who are seriously ALL amazing. It makes such a difference to see a range of bodies, ages, to hear from Celia Cruz to Chicago to M83. And they have such patience with my clambering children and even pups. I think seeing their mom lift heavy weights helps them see themselves as able and strong as well. My life is so much healthier and happier having this place to make me stronger and less stressed. I really do see this as one of the best investments I am doing in myself and well being for the long term. So! If you are local and are hoping to find a place to workout, that will take you as you are and just encourage you and push you to reach a stronger, healthier chapter of you you should check them out.

I booked the complimentary 1:1 Pilates intro just thinking it would be a nice add on and even told a friend I wasn't planning to continue after. That completely changed after my session with Joan McCarthy. I'm so glad I happened to be paired with her for that complimentary session. She is truly exceptional. I ended up buying a large pack of sessions right after and now see her twice a week. We've even done a few double sessions which have been amazing. I'm already seeing real progress in my strength, flexibility, and overall toning, and the principles she teaches have helped me get so much more out of my Solidcore and other group workouts. What really stands out is her energy and approach. She has such a positive and motivating attitude, and she really pushes me to challenge myself, find my limits, and get the most out of every session. I've also learned so much more about fitness and overall health from working with her. She combines deep Pilates expertise with a dance background, and her hands on adjustments are amazing. She also sends an in depth breakdown after each session of what we worked on and is very responsive, which makes everything feel thoughtful and personalized. I'll be honest I waited to write this because I wanted to lock in my recurring time slots first, which probably says everything. I'm fully obsessed. Thank you Joan!

That said, the Life Fitness treadmills are older and out of date compared to other less expensive Equinox clubs like Santa Monica, South Bay, and Newport Beach. Probably the least "premium" part of this location is the men's locker room and bathrooms. They're consistently humid, cramped, and not as clean as you'd expect from an Equinox. For a premium membership price, the facilities should be held to a higher standard. Good gym for getting a workout in, but the locker room experience drags down what could otherwise be a great club.

I found Lagree Fitness Club after looking at the Deals tab on MindBody, and signed up for the two…read moreclasses + free socks promotion. The studio is in Town and Country, so depending on the class time you've selected, you may want to get there extra early to find parking. I didn't get a fun/inviting/welcoming vibe during my experience here, but I wouldn't say the instructors are rude. The studio has around a dozen reformers, but unfortunately doesn't have lockers (they have cubbies with doors on them behind a wall, but no locks, so I opted to leave my belongings near my megaformer, which I'd recommend doing for safety). They do have a station to refill your water, towels, beverages and merch available for purchase, a room to change clothes, a restroom, and other items like makeup remover wipes, deodorant, etc. I didn't find the studio to be overwhelmingly clean, which was surprising since the morning class I went to was right when they opened for the day. There was hair on the floor underneath my megaformer, so it didn't seem like they had swept the night before, and I noticed that the basket for used towels was almost full too right before the first class of the day began. The class I went to was a 6:30am class with Jeannette and she gave me the choice between the free black or white socks. Both options were cute and a good way to incentivize people to try the studio! The class about as challenging as other Lagree/megaformer classes are, but much, much lower energy. I believe they use a Mega Pro machine, which felt a little flimsier and less sturdy than a typical megaformer to me. A few other things I think could be improved.: -The music. The class I went to seemed to be playing Boyz II Men's greatest hits, and I think more current music would make the classes more fun and go by faster, especially because the instructor isn't talking for most of the class. Similar studios play a lot of Tate McRae/Taylor Swift/top 40 songs that make the vibe of the class more fun and upbeat. Especially at 6:30am, it would have been great to have some songs that helped us wake up, rather slow/sleepy songs. -There seemed to be a level of slight annoyance from the instructor when people in the class would move through a posture too quickly, although there was no way for us to know how long to hold/move for because she'd count up from one (instead of down from 4 or 8). I've found at other studios instructors will say "and out for four....three... two... one" and everyone in the class is on the same page and knows how to time their movement, rather than an instructor counting up from one and getting annoyed that people are going too quickly because the they never said how many counts the move should be for. I intended to go to the second class from the promotion this morning, but encountered a car parked in front of my driveway and couldn't leave my house. I checked the Yelp page and website for a phone number, but they don't have one listed. I cancelled on Mindbody and you just lose a class credit, but aren't charged extra which is nice. Overall, I wouldn't say the workouts or vibe here as fun as similar workouts like Solidcore, Heartcore, WestCore, or traditional pilates classes like MNT or RockSalt, but it's possible that it's so new that the instructors haven't really hit their groove yet in terms of engaging with their clients and instructor training. I probably won't return until they've had some time to work out the kinks, but hope others give them a try since they're a new business in the area!

I learned about this studio opening from a friend and the studio soft opened on January 18. The…read moredeal has been free classes until the end of this month!!! So I had to sign up as soon as I learned about this promo! You can sign up for classes through the MINDBODY app! Lagree Fitness Club is a female owner lagree studio which uses mega reformers and they're quite fancy (sleek!) in comparison to other reformers I've seen! The reformer slides and the "difficulty" comes from the different resistances (white or black which goes from light to heavy respectively). There are 12 reformers in class - 7 at the "back" of the studio and 5 in the "front". Why I'm using quotes is when you enter the studio, you're facing the "back" of the class because the end of the reformer is on the left when you walk through the entrance. The workouts are essentially isometric exercises but you're also pulsing between the movements to really contract your muscles. It sounds quite simple but the workout is a KILLER! I've taken classes with Jeanette (one of the owners) and she's great! She provides a tutorial of the reformer as well as explains the next exercise quickly (which can be difficult for newcomers to understand what's going on, so repetition and slow moments are key!). She's very informative and pushes you to your limits during the exercises. Why I am rating LFC a 4 is because during this promotional period, I've had friends experience 2 hiccups... not sure if it a MINDBODY app issue or a glitch from registering during the promotional period. But at two different instances, I had a friend sign up for class, check in with an employee, but then get told later they actually aren't signed up for the class. What the heck? And also one of the two instances where my friend "wasn't registered for the class", there was another instructor taking the class. As a potential customer, I felt like the instructor taking the class should have just given up their spot in class to potentially gain a customer. Unfortunately my friends were a bit scarred by this awkward mishap and wont be making the trip out which is a bummer since the classes are such a good work out! There's a founding member rate ranging from $20-$30/per class based on the packages. But drop ins are $42. Pretty steep for me to personally commit based on my fitness goals, but I'd definitely come back to take classes here once in a while!
