This place is a hidden Gem . I usually don't write reviews but I had to inform you about this shop. Living in the area for 8mnth now I was looking for a GREAT braiding shop. After asking around a friend and a co-worker both mentioned "Giselle's" . After reading the reviews and the fact it's 12 mins away from my home. I decided to give them a call. I wanted to come in on a Thursday evening at 4pm. They was willing to see me as a walk in. I waited about 15 mins be we started. The braised was finishing a client and took a quick break. (Respectfully ) we started around 4:30 pm. I was done by 8:30 pm!! *Did you hear what I said? Only 4Hours!! Not only did they slay my hair, it was so neat. I was MORE than happy with my results! The work is good but it's not worth the money due to the customer service. They indicate that you can make an appointment but trust me when I say that your appointment time will not be held to. I called today at 8am and I was told there is an hour wait. I arrived at 9:51am and I didn't get in the chair until 1:30pm. You do the math. If they can improve the wait time and scheduling then they will definitely be a 5 star business. I got my hair braided her last minute so I was glad that they could squeeze me in. Even though I didn't get the style I wanted, I compromised since I was a walk in. My major problem is that 1. they didn't leave enough of my edges out and 2. the braider did my hair wayyyyy too tight. They continued to braid my hair tight even after another braider told them to slow down to make it less painful, they said "but then it would be slack" and continued to braid my hair tightly. When the sun hit my scalp it burned, my scalp was numb for days. I spoke to my regular stylist and she told me I needed to take them out after only having them in for 6 days. My scalp is raw, red, and bleeding, I am so disappointed. Maybe it was just my braider but I definitely won't be back again. Despite the initial inconvenience I'm actually glad it happened! They are the worst braiding shop ever, if you are reading this do not go to them. My mother went in to get cornrows with a zigzag part with blue and black hair. first of all they DISRESPECTED my mother, said her hair was too "short and too thin". They also said my mothers hair was "Too short" for a zigzag part. LIKE WHAT?! when your parting all you need is hair and scalp. Mind you another person with another women who was African had the same length and texture of my mother's hair but they were doing her's and not my mother's. They played with and disrespected my mother. There are hair shops and hair dressers that will tell you it don't matter what is your length. It is not impossible to cornrow or braid short hair you just gotta grip it. The problem is that these hair shops and hairdressers are lazy. The tall pregnant lady on the second chair from the back on the right did what she did wanted. She ignored me when i told her how i was unsatisfied with my hair. Like any African braiding salon, confirm the price & get a name. They will ALWAYS try to scam you into paying more. Haven't met an African salon that didn't. So sad. I got in like 1:30 yesterday which was a Saturday. I was told the wait was 30mins. I only waited about 10-15mins. I showed the broader the picture of the style I wanted. She looked at it and said ok. I also told her that I was tender headed and she said ok. We talked about me not wanting the braids to gather at the nape of my neck and she said ok. Well, she was gentle, she started to gather my hair (out of pure habit) then when I said something she laughed and took it out, then apologized. My hair doesn't look like the picture (which I really wanted it to). But it looks really nice. I got compliments everywhere I went. While she was doing my hair I told her that it was important that the stylist communicate with the client. And she did with me. Now I do feel a way about my hair not looking like the pic but I will go back because of the customer service this particular braided gave and she was gentle. Oh and she saved me money. This place is beyond unprofessional. They will tell you leave and come back when they call you, they never call and have everyone else go before you go. At that time, everyone is "too tired" to braid anymore hair so you end up getting the crappy braids. The workers are rude and all have an attitude when it comes to braiding your hair. When they mess up your hair, they refuse to do it over upon request. If you're hair is thick, they complain and repeatedly tell you that you need to perm your hair. You're better off finding another place that KNOWS what they're doing and with better customer service because it absolutely disgusting. read more

Typical dirty African braiding shop. Had my box braids done by Alice who wears high heels and talked non stop the whole 7 hours she braided my hair. 1 week later and my $180 box braids are slipping out exponentially. I Will never go back. The owner needs to control the non stop yapping. Had Alice spent less time talking and eating potato Chips she should have focused on braiding my hair correctly by splitting my hair into 3 sections and not wrapping the synthetic around my hair she would have done an excellent job. The only thing they are good at is large cornrows. There are plenty of better braiders around DC. I can't believe an individual can talk non stop for 7hours with out taking a break to just zip it and concentrate Even the other braiders kept quiet from time to time. Terrible. The little who did my hair just finished her breakfast sandwich and wasn't about to wash her hands until i asked her too. No greeting or nothing . I showed her the style i wanted immediately started giving me attitude stating " My hair can't do that " when all she had to say was madme i don't know how to do that style. So i said ok let me get 5 feed ins . Simple . She goes on to say she can't do 5 her hands will hurt . Everything in me wanted to say why the hell are you braiding hair and complaining about your hands hurting . But i said ok do what you know how to do at this point I'm highly irritated and i wanted to go to a new stylist but everyone was busy and no telling what time the other workers will show up. I visited this place today in hopes of getting small box braids. I ask if the could braid my hair because it was short they assure me that they could. So the first braider yes the first braider told me she was gonna don't the parts small and I go to check my hair and I have big parts so they started over and now for me to receive small braids with small parts they would now charge 300 instead of the 200. So the next braider shows me first couple of braids an the parts are good. So I allow her to continue but after she never braided the back of my hair and I again here I am in total disgust because why am I paying $300 for you to only do a part of my hair. I will never come her again and to top all off the ask me to pay for my hair .. u can kick my ass u guys where so unprofessional it's pathetic.
